Hello everyone,
I'm in deep trouble with my bricked phone. Yesterday I wanted to flash Cyanogenmod 11 and I was following a video guide on how to do it. The video said to flash TWRP recovery to the phone so that's what I did. I don't believe it said anything about unlocking the bootloader at all. So what happened was I flashed the recovery and the problem said if I wanted to boot into recovery now.
It didn't because a message popped up saying "A program that i not authorized by Verizon was detected on this phone" blah blah blah. And now anytime I tried booting the phone it goes to that message. I can't boot to anything. Yesterday was able to boot into ODIN mode and thought I could flash something or at least wipe my phone completely and start from scratch. Well I went to bed and thought I could pick u from ODIN mode but now my screen won't turn on. When I press the power button, the light nor the screen turns on. Now I have no idea that to do.
Things I've tried:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU5H8NJ7vTM
I tried this twice, once yesterday with a 2 GB non class 10 SD card and the other today with a 16gb Class 10 SD card that matches my 16gb S3.
Odin doesn't recognize my phone and neither does my computer.
I think my only option is to buy a USB Jig to try to get my phone into download again. Is there anyway I can make a USB jtag jig instead of buying? Would anyone in a Verizon Store be able to help me?
I don not care about the data on my phone at all, all I want to make it work again.
Please help, thanks.
I'll stop by the Verizon Store and see if they can help.
Edit: I wasted my time...

They can't, you need to read the guides on how to fix the softbrick and read up on your device limitations. Updated S3's have locked bootloaders.

Okay I'll keep trying. What probably really bricked my phone was when I tried the fix in the video with a small SD card. I didn't watch the first where he mentions it's crucial to use a 16gb class 10 card...

Your phone isn't hard bricked, it's soft bricked, that guide won't do anything for you. If you were on 4.1.2 you need to use the appropriate file or you'll lock your bootloader.

I tried this one but I can't do it because ODIN doesn't see my phone and I can't get into Odin mode
Edit: Well I can't see anything because my screen won't turn on. I turn on the phone with holding down the Power + Home + Vol Down, then keep holding down Home and Vol Down, then Vol Up to get into download mode. When I plug in the cord the phone vibrates as if I turned it on again.

That will work, but you don't have to go through the whole flashing boot chain process, I'd use the newer guide ThePagel wrote with the 4.1.2 tar.
You should be able to get into download mode. Power + home + volume down until the blue small text appears in the corner. Then you can let go.

I think your power button is broken or the display is broken. It doesn't make sense for it to be hard bricked.

That's what the person said at the Verizon store but I don't believe it at all. The screen was perfectly fine Friday night. I didn't drop my phone at all so that the hardware could have been physically damaged.

You don't need to drop it for it to be broken, they've been known to stick. Lookup YouTube videos on how to unstick the power button.

Okay so I had the phone unplugged and without the battery overnight. I put in the battery and turn it on, phone vibrates and that's it. However, when I plug it in to be charged, now the red LED light doesn't come on and the phone vibrates repeatedly like it's in a boot loop.
How can I tell if my power button it stuck? I can feel the button depress like it should.

has this problem already came up if so I missed it a link would be nice to fix my phone Thanks
I could be misunderstanding your problem here but I think i had a similar issue... first of all make sure you're holding down the power button long enough to boot up. Seems to take 4 or 5 seconds with this phone.
Also when I had the issue i took out the bat, put it back, plugged into a wall charger and then held the power button that worked. But I think really my issue was impatience not holding the power button the first time long enough.
no i am the screen wont say updating or whatever when i hold the up and down button but it looks for a driver ?? and installs the Right driver
helpppppppppp your way to the search button.
Thread moved to proper forum.
You only hold volume down and power. I had the same issue. Holding both volumes will cause the phone to not boot.

So you flashed the recovery before you rooted. Try reflashing the original recovery. I don't know if that will work. You should have rooted then flashed recovery.

thats what im doing now but gewt stuck at waiting for bootloader to int for some reason
Well your g2x will never go out of the updating screen you have to wait until one click says it has transfered the file. Wait a minute or so after that and unplug the USB and put your battery back in the I would do a master rest.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
thing is my lg screen is black can i still root with a black screen ? like i said only action i get out of the g2x is if i hold the vol up And Down and plug it in then i hear the sound of the computer finding it witch gives me hope
I would try recovering recovery befor trying to root again. I would do the nvflash but pick the original recovery instead of cm. Then after that master reset by original recovery which is hold power and down volume. Recovery will rest your rom. Rooting puts you root permissions I believe into a different partition any ways that's how a master reset does not wipe them. Your problem sounds like more of a recovery issue then root.

It is problem is it stays at Waiting for Bootloader int how long should that be there?
are you holding the volume buttons down and plunging in the usb before you select the version? you have to continue holding them the whole time. should pick it up in matter of seconds.
My power button is broken so I need to take my phone in to get it replaced. Following the instructions to get it unrooted/return to stock, I need my phone to be recognized in fastboot. It's not happening; I've tried it on three PC's and none of them even see a device connected. It's not even a matter of drivers because when I'm in fastboot it's like nothing is connected at all.
I can't use my volume buttons in fastboot, basicaly I can't do anything at all in fastboot...no volume buttons, no power button and it can't be recognized.
Volume buttons work when phone is turned on. I can do anything I want in recovery or when the phone is up, but in fastboot I can't do anything.
Someone please help!!
By the way, ADB works perfectly but obviously fastboot does not because my PC thinks nothing is connected when fastboot is up on my phone and as I mentioned, my phone is completely unresponsive to anything that I do when I'm in fastboot. I can't use the "volume up/volume down" and tap the power button to get into downloading mode either because MY STUPID POWER BUTTON IS BROKEN!!!
Thank you again in advance....you will be my hero if you can help me with this!!!

I have tried that so much I think I'm going to break my phone.
I just need someway to return this phone to stock without expecting fastboot to work because it seems like it is unresponsive since the power button is not working. I know this sounds weird as heck but I have all the correct drivers installed but three different computers don't see any kind of usb device connected when the phone is in fastboot. I sincerely believe it's because while in fastboot my messed up powerbutton is screwing it up because it's thinking that the power button is held down the entire time.
If anyone has any ideas on how I can get back to stock please tell me. I have 100% access on my phone when it's in recovery because I can use the buttons at the bottom and I have 100% access when it's fully booted up but when it's in fastboot I can't do anything and no computer even sees a USB device connected to it.

have you tried pdanets website? http://junefabrics.com/android/
go there, download the free download and install it to youre computer. its tethering software. but thats not why you should try it. follow the on screen instructions after its installed and itll install the proper latest drivers for your phone. theres a chance your drivers might be out of date.
oh yeah. Used pdanet drivers and Google drivers. No luck with either. I can adb with both but like I said the deicer is not the issue it's that fastboot is totally unresponsive so it looks like nothing is connected to the pc

ODIN doesn't work because of the gosh darn power button being broken.
I went kinda crazy and erased everything in recovery so now all the phone does is boot straight into fast boot. I deleted the boot.img recovery everything, hahahaha (I laugh but really I'm crying inside).
I need a fix ASAP, I'm officially out of a phone.

Wow, this actually worked for me Thanks Simms!
I just got stuck in the same situation (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22884288&postcount=24) so I kept tapping the back of my phone (with the back cover off). Funny thing is, my power button now works properly again (it hasn't been working for the past week)

When you say on, off, on, off. Do you mean the lights flash then it goes off or does it try to boot?
Can you get into download mode?
Have you tried a different battery or left the battery out for an hour or so, then tried again?

First you need to download Heimdall or Odin from the ISET page to you PC. I believe Odin uses the Kies drivers and Heimdall replaces the with a Samsung composite driver. I personally use the Heimdall back to stock that is rooted.
Once you have them and decide which one you will use, you will need to get into download mode. Take the battery out, connect USB to phone and preferably a rear USB port on your PC. Hold volume up and down, No Power button though, and then insert the battery. This should put you in download mode and you need to push volume up to get to it. Volume down cancels it and will reboot. You may want to just try that one time to see if it corrects the problem. If not, repeat steps to get to download and flash either Odin to Heimdall and then start flashing again.
Read the instructions on the OP of Odin or Heimdall and ask questions if you aren't sure of what to do.

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 that was rooted using a "teamviewer" like program by a customer and an outside source. After root was "successful" the rom was flashed and the phone rebooted and shut down (as customer recalls it). This phone is running 4.08 on a wall charger through a volt meter and the battery is reading the same if not a bit less. The vibrate during start up does not occur and the lights for charging are not lit up. Any help towards getting this figured out please let me know. Appreciate the help in advance

Just to be clear, you are trying to get it to download/recovery mode from the phone being powered off right? It won't get there when its powered on and stuck at "Galaxy S III" screen. Pull the battery and hold down the button combinations until you see "Samsung" with small blue text in the upper left hand corner and as soon as the screen goes black, release the buttons.
It almost sounds like they installed a rom that needed the bootloader workaround.. in which case I'd be stumped at what's needed then, jtag...?
What rom was flashed? Any way you could provide a link or recall its name?

This.
After root was "successful" the rom was flashed and the phone rebooted and shut down (as customer recalls it).

Specifically, what rom was it? Sounds to me that a I9300 rom was flashed. If that's the case, the phone is hard bricked. You need a JTAG to fix it.
Hello my phone's power button just died and my phone wont turn on. Its being replaced by verizon for free. Is there any way I can reformat it so I dont get in trouble for an open boot loader and a rooted rom? My phone wont turn on at all because the power button is not connected. So I need to do something when its powered off to reset it. Thank you
I can't try this but maybe it's worth a shot.

I gave it a try but didnt have any luck. Any other suggestions?
Googling this brings up many more xda threads than I could reasonably read. However, being much more motivated you might try them. Post back any results. It would be nice to be able to help others.
Cut and paste this search string. Note the site: syntax that returns only results from xda forums and the inclusion of s3 and siii to narrow it to your device.
site:xda-developers.com broken power button turn on "s3" "siii
Edit: replace the emoticon with a : directly followed by an x. Sheesh!

1. Take the battery out of the phone and unplug it from USB power.
2. Plug in USB power.
3. While holding down the volume-down button and the Home button, insert the battery.
4. The phone should start in Download mode, from here you can use Odin to return the phone to stock.

Maybe you should read the OP before posting. His power button is broken. So he can't enter Odin

I also read that doing the volume down and home button combo without battery but plugged in enters download mode. Wild. Any luck?

Maybe you should read what I wrote. I didn't mention the power button because you don't need it to get into Download mode.
Per Jacquestrapp I took the battery out of my s3, plugged into to usb power, held the home/vol down key combo while re-inserting the battery (not easy) and it's now in download mode. Try it. It should work for you.
