S3 wont budge after root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I am not the owner of this phone.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 that was rooted using a "teamviewer" like program by a customer and an outside source. After root was "successful" the rom was flashed and the phone rebooted and shut down (as customer recalls it). This phone is running 4.08 on a wall charger through a volt meter and the battery is reading the same if not a bit less. The vibrate during start up does not occur and the lights for charging are not lit up. Any help towards getting this figured out please let me know. Appreciate the help in advance

Well when you pull the battery and put it back and then try to hold volume up, home and power dies it do anything?
Also, when plugged into pc does it ask for any drivers? I'm betting your customer installed an international version ROM and it's hard bricked.
Sent from my SCH-I535

I had already done what you mentioned and the forums were my last resort haha. It does ask for drivers but I had to find the download for them and am currently trying to run the phone through adb devices but it is seeming like it wont pick it up.

What us the driver name and with the button combo did it respond?

Nope cant get to it if phones unresponsive

pull the battery for like 5 minutes and try again. if still unresponsive then you have a brick.

Just to be clear, you are trying to get it to download/recovery mode from the phone being powered off right? It won't get there when its powered on and stuck at "Galaxy S III" screen. Pull the battery and hold down the button combinations until you see "Samsung" with small blue text in the upper left hand corner and as soon as the screen goes black, release the buttons.
It almost sounds like they installed a rom that needed the bootloader workaround.. in which case I'd be stumped at what's needed then, jtag...?

What rom was flashed? Any way you could provide a link or recall its name?

Specifically, what rom was it? Sounds to me that a I9300 rom was flashed. If that's the case, the phone is hard bricked. You need a JTAG to fix it.

has this problem already came up if so I missed it a link would be nice to fix my phone Thanks
I could be misunderstanding your problem here but I think i had a similar issue... first of all make sure you're holding down the power button long enough to boot up. Seems to take 4 or 5 seconds with this phone.
Also when I had the issue i took out the bat, put it back, plugged into a wall charger and then held the power button that worked. But I think really my issue was impatience not holding the power button the first time long enough.
no i am the screen wont say updating or whatever when i hold the up and down button but it looks for a driver ?? and installs the Right driver
helpppppppppp your way to the search button.
Thread moved to proper forum.
You only hold volume down and power. I had the same issue. Holding both volumes will cause the phone to not boot.

So you flashed the recovery before you rooted. Try reflashing the original recovery. I don't know if that will work. You should have rooted then flashed recovery.

thats what im doing now but gewt stuck at waiting for bootloader to int for some reason
Well your g2x will never go out of the updating screen you have to wait until one click says it has transfered the file. Wait a minute or so after that and unplug the USB and put your battery back in the I would do a master rest.

thing is my lg screen is black can i still root with a black screen ? like i said only action i get out of the g2x is if i hold the vol up And Down and plug it in then i hear the sound of the computer finding it witch gives me hope
I would try recovering recovery befor trying to root again. I would do the nvflash but pick the original recovery instead of cm. Then after that master reset by original recovery which is hold power and down volume. Recovery will rest your rom. Rooting puts you root permissions I believe into a different partition any ways that's how a master reset does not wipe them. Your problem sounds like more of a recovery issue then root.

It is problem is it stays at Waiting for Bootloader int how long should that be there?
are you holding the volume buttons down and plunging in the usb before you select the version? you have to continue holding them the whole time. should pick it up in matter of seconds.

Hard or Soft Brick?

So in the midst of updating my ROM, I accidentally had clicked on some 'update.zip' while in I was in Recovery (A folder placed there itself) and after waiting for it to hopefully load normally, it shut off and now the device won't turn on, recovery or nothing. Is there something I can do, or has it come to its end? Lol

Not booting. Will keep trying. As of now, I suggest everyone to be careful with that update.zip thing. Thanks for all the help!
I have always found it very difficult to get into Download Mode. I've found an alternative solution.
1. Turn your device completely off.
2. Plug your USB Data Cable into PC, not phone.
3. Hold down both volume up/down buttons.
4. Plug your USB Data Cable into phone while still holding down the buttons.
5. After 3 or so seconds, you should now be in Download Mode.

Yes, I know how to access Download Mode, I had done it twice before when I installed a custom kernel and Recovery lol. It's not responding though. When I had clicked on the update.zip, it stayed on it for a little while then shut off at 90% battery life, so I know it has enough juice. Ugh, I should have been more careful. Do you have windows or Linux?
Try removing battery and with battery off press power button for 20 secs just to completely turn off device and any juice left over then wait 15 mins pop battery back in and open Odin the connect cable to PC but not to phone ...then hold volume buttons and connect cable to ur phone and see if it goes into download mode or if at least Odin reads it

[Q] Can you break download mode? I think my Skyrocket is FUBAR :[

I flashed the stable CM10 and everything was ok.
Then I flashed 4.2 gapps and set some alarms.
Now the phone is in a boot loop so I try to return it to stock with Odin and when I get to download mode I click Vol Up to get in and I see Andy the Android for a split second before I get a sort of Blue Screen.
I'm wondering if I broke download mode somehow. Is there a fix for this?
I'm shoving the battery in, pressing the two volume keys, letting go when I see the download screen, hitting Vol Up to accept, then the phone reboots as Andy pops up.
Note: even when I don't accept download mode the screen will go blue and restart the phone.
Thanks in advance.

If your phone starts to reboot you're doing something wrong. Download mode should last indefinitely. In fact you have to tell it to proceed to some other step. Re-read Vincom's instructions.

8. How To Put your device into Download Mode: (download mode is NOT the same as recovery mode)
a. Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.
b. Remove the battery.
c. Reinsert the battery.
d. Press and keep down both Volume Up and Volume Down keys then insert the USB cable into your device. (On Rogers phones It's just Vol Down.) DO NOT RELEASE THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL INSTRUCTED
e. When You see the screen warning you about installing a rom w/a yellow triangle RELEASE the volume key(s)
f. Now press and release the volume "up" key, you should now be at the Download Mode screen w/odin recognising your phone. -See Pics Below-.

As for the sticky power button, I really don't know. I clobbered it, I listened very carefully to it. The instructions to fix it were like "hit it hard and repeatedly" or something.

Where would I put the rubbing alcohol? Would I need to take apart the chassis/case/housing? I imagine rubbing it on the power button wouldn't do anything.
BTW, sincerely, thanks for the help.
Edit: I bashed the phone, power button first, against the table while it was booting up and I saw my boot animation for a second. I thought it was fixed so I stopped bashing and it just rebooted again.
its 99% the power button, hearing it click is no indication thats its working as its an internal problem, theres 3 links to the problem in the "info" section in the "1 stop" sticky in my sig . taking it apart to get to the internal contact is one way to fix it, maybe the only way to fix it. if phone starts as soon as you put the battery in w/out touching any buttons then its a sticky/failed power button. warranty repair is also another solution
its 1% for a battery and/or battery contact problem

[Q] Fixing my Bricked Verizon S3

Hello everyone,
I'm in deep trouble with my bricked phone. Yesterday I wanted to flash Cyanogenmod 11 and I was following a video guide on how to do it. The video said to flash TWRP recovery to the phone so that's what I did. I don't believe it said anything about unlocking the bootloader at all. So what happened was I flashed the recovery and the problem said if I wanted to boot into recovery now.
It didn't because a message popped up saying "A program that i not authorized by Verizon was detected on this phone" blah blah blah. And now anytime I tried booting the phone it goes to that message. I can't boot to anything. Yesterday was able to boot into ODIN mode and thought I could flash something or at least wipe my phone completely and start from scratch. Well I went to bed and thought I could pick u from ODIN mode but now my screen won't turn on. When I press the power button, the light nor the screen turns on. Now I have no idea that to do.
Things I've tried:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU5H8NJ7vTM
I tried this twice, once yesterday with a 2 GB non class 10 SD card and the other today with a 16gb Class 10 SD card that matches my 16gb S3.
Odin doesn't recognize my phone and neither does my computer.
I think my only option is to buy a USB Jig to try to get my phone into download again. Is there anyway I can make a USB jtag jig instead of buying? Would anyone in a Verizon Store be able to help me?
I don not care about the data on my phone at all, all I want to make it work again.
Please help, thanks.
I'll stop by the Verizon Store and see if they can help.
Edit: I wasted my time...

Edit: Well I can't see anything because my screen won't turn on. I turn on the phone with holding down the Power + Home + Vol Down, then keep holding down Home and Vol Down, then Vol Up to get into download mode. When I plug in the cord the phone vibrates as if I turned it on again.

That will work, but you don't have to go through the whole flashing boot chain process, I'd use the newer guide ThePagel wrote with the 4.1.2 tar.
You should be able to get into download mode. Power + home + volume down until the blue small text appears in the corner. Then you can let go.

Strange, so you're getting into download mode but once you plug it in the phone reboots?

I can't verify that I'm getting into download because my screen is off the whole time, so I'm doing the button presses blindly. And yes it seems like it is

I think your power button is broken or the display is broken. It doesn't make sense for it to be hard bricked.

That's what the person said at the Verizon store but I don't believe it at all. The screen was perfectly fine Friday night. I didn't drop my phone at all so that the hardware could have been physically damaged.

You don't need to drop it for it to be broken, they've been known to stick. Lookup YouTube videos on how to unstick the power button.

Okay so I had the phone unplugged and without the battery overnight. I put in the battery and turn it on, phone vibrates and that's it. However, when I plug it in to be charged, now the red LED light doesn't come on and the phone vibrates repeatedly like it's in a boot loop.
How can I tell if my power button it stuck? I can feel the button depress like it should.

There's no way to easily tell, it sounds like it is though. Try to fix it and see if it fixes your phone.

WOAHHHHHHH phone screen is working again for no reason!!! I can get into ODIN mode!! I'm doing this fix right now!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030
Phone is de-bricked! Runnign stock Android 4.0.4 right now. I'm going to properly install Cyanogenmod now lol
Thanks for all your help!

[Q] My Nexus 5 is bricked and can't boot into recovery! HELP!

Hey Guys!
So I had Cyanagonmod on my Nexus 5 for quiete a while now. But yesterday my phone suddenly turned off. I've tried to boot it but all it does is showing me the Google-Logo and the "Unlocked"-Logo for a second and it reboots again and I see the same thing.
Important:
1. It only boots if it is connected via USB (Wallcharger, or connected to PC)
2. If I try to boot in the Bootloader through pressing the volume buttons + the power button it just reboots after a second and the google logo appears again
3. the computer doesn't recognize the phone even though it's connected
-> I already tried to fix the problem with the Nexus 5 Toolkit but as I said the PC doesn't even know that it's connected.
PLEASE HELP ME!
I thank you for your answers and your support!:good:
Sounds to me like your power button is stuck. If you have a case, take it off. Then try mashing the power button a number of times.

Thank you for your answer.
I can get into recovery mode for a second. That means that the power button reacts and is working.
I really think that this is more a software than a hardware problem

Really? What software problem affects the ROM, bootloader AND recovery? Answer below.
None
Its button or NAND issue.

by press power button + volume down, how you are supposed to. theres no key combo to get into your recovery, you go into the bootloader then press recovery. if your power button is stuck, then the moment you enter the bootloader, it gets pressed down to boot up normally.

EDIT: SORRY! I got the Recovery Mode and the Bootloader mixed up! I ment that I only can boot into the BOOTLOADER for a second and I can't even reach the Recovery Mode because it just starts rebooting.

Yes, so the power button is probably stuck.

because your power button is stuck. once you enter the bootloader it would press down to boot.
okay thank you guys!
do you have any suggestions what I can do?
Obviously I can't get any warranty service because they'll see that the bootloader is unlocked

well, if you bought it through google, they dont care, if its a hardware issue. its google themselves that made it so you can unlock the bootloader easy. btw, they made it so you can lick your bootloader just as easy.. fastboot oem lock.

If you bought from the Play Store, Google doesn't care about that.

Okay makes sense. But how is the power button set at the moment? Is it like pressed down the hole time?
And what are your suggestions? What should I do? Obviously I dont have any warranty because they'll see that my bootloader is unlocked

Yea I bought it from the play store.
Is it also okay if I have flashed a custom rom (Cyanogenmod) on it? I always thought that this would make your warranty invalid

if its a hardware issue, it doesnt matter what rom you are running, they will take care of you.

yea that would be logical but these dumbass companies always look for a reason NOT to give you the warranty

Except it doesn't matter to Google as long as it's a legitimate hardware fault. And stuck power buttons have been accepted many times before.
