[Q] charger very hot - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone chargers get very HOT? mine did on the first charger. It was almost to hot to hold in my hand. I charged from ~50% to 100%. anyone else have this issue? i'm wondering if there is something wrong with the charger?

Yes mine gets unusually hot too. Like you say to the point you can't hold it. Once it's charged it seems to cool down though.

Mine gets hot too.
Not too concerned tho.

What's the output voltage of that charger? The 1000 mah is fine.

You have a bad battery. Get a replacement battery fast.

My phone smells like it's burnt as well. Even when I take the battery out, the phone smells like burnt where the gold connectors are. As well as the battery itself smelling. I can smell it through the USB connector on the bottom with the battery cover on.
I purchased a new battery and it still does the same thing... I don't know if it's the phone or the batteries.
The phone works fine and I get great battery life. It's not even hot. So idk if I should be concerned or not.
RELAX man ! your electrical outlet gives the not stable amplitude of voltage....thats why charger is getting hot sometimes., and smells.
Don't worry it's ok

It's not the charger though, it's the actual phone/battery.
After having the phone unplugged for hours, the area around the gold contacts of the phone/battery connectors smells like scorched metal/plastic.
Do u have a custom kernel?
U smell only when u open battery?
Is it happening every time when phone on charge?

Yeah I'm using Faux's LGE Stock Froyo kernel v0.0.4 with ext4 undervolted.
Stock LG Froyo rom
The smell never goes away as long as the phone is on. It has been doing it since I got the phone about 3 weeks ago before I installed the custom kernel.
Like I said, everything works fine, and the phone and battery aren't even hot. I even bought a new battery and it still does it.

Overheating?

Does any one else's Charge seem to get abnormally hot while charging? Like hot to the point where it's uncomfortable to put in my pocket after charging. Wondering if I should try and get the phone replaced before it fries itself or if it's just normal. Thanks!

Mine does it a lot, and its actually getting to the point where it wont charge my battery completely. Charged all last night, battery says 100%, but when I take it off the charger, its on 49%. And it died on 12%. Im taking it to VZW tomorrow to see if they can switch out the battery.

not normal you have a problem

I know. Im actually on a replacement too. Its crazy, it did it with my other phone also. I only got a replacement due to the reception issues.

Verizon should replace the overheating phones. Mine overheated so badly that an error message popped up and said the phone could not charge because it was too hot.....something like that. I brought it to Verizon and they swapped it out no problem.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
I wonder how many times they can swap out. Because mine overheats when it charges, and sometimes when itaint charging at all.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
definitely not normal. Mine charges off of a 2amp charger in under an hour from 10 to 100 percent without getting very hot. Make sure you change out the charger too, the phone might not be the only problem. If there is a partial short it could be causing it.
If it's doing it with the factory charger, yes, it's a problem. If you have an aftermarket charger (or battery), it's most likely that. These phones are a bit touchier than they ought to be about where they accept their power from.
Mine seems to get pretty hot as well. Lets hope that we can pull a fascinate and use the warranty to get the sgs2.
indeed
my charge is overheating as well. there are 2 instances when it overheats. while Charging and downloading a huge file from internet or the app that uses internet/data.
I have tried diff battery did not help. I assume everyones phone is like that. Charge has a overheating problems.
IF you are not agree with me try to torrent on the phone for 20min. Just for testing sake and prove me wrong.(I dont torrent but it is a perfect example)

I had the same thing on my original Charge when it shipped to me. Along with the heat issue, my phone was dying way faster than it should considering my setup.
I went to a VZW corp store and they switched me out with a new battery as part of the manufacturer's warranty program.
The new battery didn't overheat anymore and my battery lasted twice as long.
Either way, you have nothing to lose.
big red is shipping me a replacement today...hopefully its a good one!
As always, if you are having heat problems I recommend underclocking/volting to 800mhz. Last time I did that it solved ALL my heat problems completely! It would only get ever so slightly warm when watching Netflix(the most data and system intensive app I know of). Never hot though.

Random Shut Off While On Charge

Hey guys, last night I put my phone on charge and left it that way overnight. I woke up late to school because my phone turned off on its own, charged partially to 45%, and no alarm/calls/texts (obviously). I tried to hard reboot with vol up+ power and no luck, then I had to pull the battery for it to turn back on.
I also was told by my friend they texted me and called me a few times and I did not get any missed texts or calls.
What may the issue be?
I am on Whitehawkx's MIUI port 1.9.9.
Another issue: I have a car charger ($2 off amazon) and it turns the charge on my phone for 20sec to 2min then turns off the charge.. Or when it says charging it actually takes away battery life...
Could these two problems be linked? For instance, the charger in my car messed up my battery and now my home charger does not charge it well and the phone dies because of it?
Happened to me also .exactly the same way .

What was your solution?
I bought a 3500mAh battery off eBay gonna see if that happens on just regular battery life or just with charger. Still waiting for it to arrive though.
I need a solution ASAP though.
All the cheap chargers take away battery and do not charge my phone.
After 3 cheap car chargers. I bought one at WAL-MART. Works great.

That's one solution. I just bought this from eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160645894679?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I got my for $10.

It did it again tonight. I had 82% When I put it on charge then after taking out the battery and rebooting it was 74%.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Try charging it via a USB port on a computer and see it it happens again..
If not...its an issue some of these have where the phone over heats. One solution may be to disable wifi and gps while charging from a wall charger, but even then it can still run hot.
Thanks for the idea, I will try it. Also, idk bout overheating but my battery smells like crap?!!??!

When can i use it?

Just picked my 32gb gray tf700 from best buy and plugged it in the charger. So when can I turn this thing on without having to worry about battery issues.
ASUS said : "Wait 8 hours".
Some people can't wait, but I did. I don't know who is right, because there were many discussions about battery technology, and we still don't know who is right.
I turned mine on immediately lol
I only used it for a couple minutes before shutting it back off and charging it for the night

Mine was turned on immediately also. The tablet had about 30% battery left so after letting it recognize my local network as well as my google stuff I put the charger on it and powered it down. As soon as the charging light changed to 'green' it went into my TF201 Dock keyboard which while booting up did an upgrade to my TF201 Dock from 206 to 207. Have never looked back since.

Tablet charges within 3 hours. Once it hits 100% it stops charging the device. So leaving it on for an extra 5 hours makes no sense. A green indicator will also let you know when it is near or completely charged or just look in the notification bar.

i turned mine on right away and checked it out for a bit while it was charging, then let it sleep and charge.
i've had no battery issues at all.
I played with mine almost immediately and battery has not been a problem

as soon as you plug it in to charge the tablet will boot up. personally i can wait, so i just turned it back off and let it charge overnight

Inverted battery priority when discharging

OK. The title is probably confusing but here are the details. I'll be running my tf700 with fully charged dock and tablet while it is docked. Well, the tablet's seems to be the main battery used; it drains while the dock battery remains 97%-100%. Has anyone experienced something like this? Does anyone know if the performance/balanced/power-saving modes have any say in which battery gets used first? Thank you.

Yes, that is perfectly normal. As soon as the tablet battery drops to lower than about 70%, the dock will start recharging the tablet.
Ah, good to know. I did notice it start charging. I was confused since this behavior is different from my tf100 withthe dock.

I just checked mine and it started with the tablet battery first, but when it reached 89%, the dock battery kicked in and recharge the tablet battery.
Mine does it at 70% as well.
Sounds like you got a better one buhohitr!
Same here as well.
