Hello,
My question may seem simple but I would like to transfer files onto the TF300 using a WinXP pc. Plugging the usb charger cable from the pad and pc gets me a prompt to install a asus driver. This only happens for the media device (MTP) usb connection but not the camera (PTP) connection.
What asus media device driver am I supposed to load?
Is this ICS OS thing because my other Android devices (phones mostly) does not require a pc driver but does at least prompt me what I need to to do when usb connected to the pc (Charge Only, usb media storage, etc.)
Any ideas? Thanks.
I'm not 100% (I'm mostly linux user) but it seems like You need ASUS Pad PC Suite or ASUS Sync installed (maybe both).
On tablet side each time I connect to PC via USB I see PC sync app running and I think this is the reason why You need extra drivers.
I hate MTP mode (not working correctly in linux) and PTP mode is limited. For file transfering I use SSHDroid or SwiFTP FTP Server. They are great to easy copy files from and to my TF300T and my phone (no need for cables and etc.). Only wifi is needed. Both app you can get for free from Google Play.
The only disadvantage is that data transfer is slower that USB.

Thanks for your feedback and link.
I do use other transfer method to move files onto the pad via wifi (FTP, HTTP, BT,etc) but would like to get the 'wired' transfer way working. Its just wrong to have it not work out of the box.
I happened to have a spare Micro SD and full size SD adaptor spare so I just used them. I've not really tried via USB but it definatly wouldn't give me an option to mount as Mass Storage Device.

Over USB mine mounts as a device, and then the storage is inside the device, this is on windows 8 though so idk how it works on others.

SD card plugs in on the left side, just lower than halfway down. It's not labeled, but it will insert there.

Since Android 4.0 there is no Mass Storage option. There are only MTP and Camera modes. Mass storage mode need the sdcard to be umounted from Android filesystem and because some apps need sdcard to run that is a problem so Google decided to remove that option (i really miss this).
Even if you put sdcard to tablet and you connect tablet to PC windows will still recognise it as MTP. So you need to remember this if you want to use sdcard in tablet instead of pendrive.

Hi,
While your tablet is connected through USB to PC, try going into settings. Under storage, on the right-hand screen, if you scroll down you should see an option to Mount Storage. Click and your tablet's internal storage should be available for access on your PC. The first time your PC might try to download drivers. Hope that works!

Thanks for the reply. I will double check but I'm almost positive my tab do not have that option to mount the storage as you indicated. Only available option I recall is what's in the OP.

Its work with only the pad connected
Connect using USB
Hi,
To be able to connect via USB you need the windows driver for the pad.
To obtain it just try installing PC-Sync tools from ASUS for the TF300T (can be downloaded from ASUS support.
Prior to installation the package will look for the driver on your system and install it if it is not there.
Once the driver is installed you can abort the installation of the PC-Sync package.
With the driver istalled you will be able to connect to the TF300T as an MTP or as a PTP device.
Good Luck!

It should be listed as usbdrive using your favorite file manager. Usually under

sdcard2
usbdrive
Its not like windows. It doesn't pop up with a window when you plug it in. Flash drive must be formatted fat32. Android doesn't like ntfs

I do see the USB drive bit it's always empty. USB drive is fat32 formatted.
Using a USB mouse works great. I don't get a popup which notifies me about a connected usb drive like my archos 101 did.
Did a little discovery:
When connecting the tab to pc with a usb cable only then a "mount usb" message pops up.
Then a usb drive will work.
Now how do i get the gtab to mount the usb drive ?
I don't think any of these roms are gonna give you a popup when you load a usb drive. I just plugged one in on tnt 3.1 and it reads it thru file manager. I was on vegan beta4 and did the same thing yesterday
Edit: usb disk not usb drive
When you connect a cable from your pc to the tablet the pop up is to allow the tab to unmount the internal sdcard so your pc can read it.

/usbdrive is empty.
It becomes populates when i insert a mini usb cable and connect it to the pc.
This give me the mount option and only then i see files under /usbdrive.
idk then, I never had a problem reading the usb drive on vegan beta4. Sorry I can't help
OK, found it.
I have to unmount the sdcard first. Then the usb drive shows with files.
Thanks.

Hey. I just got a USB Flash Drive and tried connecting it to my GTab but no dice. I am running Vegan 5.1 and using ES File Explore. I navigate to the root directory and see sdcard, sdcard2, and usbdisk. Sdcard and sdcard2 has my internal storage and my micro usb storage files respectively. But nothing pops us in usbdisk. I tried removing the microsd, rebooting with the USB inserted, and unmounting the microSD but no dice.
Any hints?
Thanks,
Scott
Update: So I tried going to settings and unmounting the sdcard and now I can see the USBdisk. Odd. If I want to transfer data from one drive to another, I cant accomplish that because the SDcard is unmounted. Also all my appdata and stuff are not present. Any way to have both of these drives mounted at the same time?
Thanks
I cannot access my external sd card that's in my gTab from windows via the USB cable. I seem to remember that when I first bought it , I could see both the internal and external storage when I connected the gTab to Windows via USB (when it still had stock ROM). Now I am running rooted VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0b5.1.1 and when I connect it via USB to windows I can only see the internal storage (I couldn't see it when I tried cyanogenmod either). I can access both brom the gTab just fine and if I take out the ext. sd card, windows reads it just fine.
Any idea why and/or how to access both internal and external storage from windows when gTab is plugged in via USB to windows?
As far as I know you could never access the external sdcard from the computer by usb
I load things from my external SD to internal SD and visa versa using ghost commander. Not a super big deal just one extra step. At this point I almost forgot I had to do that to move files between them and my PC.
i use a app that mounts them both
The way I found to access my external sd card from my computer is to ftp into my gTab using filezilla on my computer and SwiFTP FTP Server (available free from Market) on my gTab. Here is another post that talks about how to access the ext. sd card remotely: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869844

Thanks, I know some other people will want to try this app.
Not a great fit for me as I dislike the delays built into a lot of free apps.
I just plug a USB thumb drive into my PC, download the files onto that then plug it into my tablet and download from the USB drive onto the SDCARD. Easy like pie.
Works the other direction too!!!
Hi to all!
Here's the problem that I have.
After upgrading my Xoom (US 3G) to Tiamat 2.1 Hammerhead USBOTG stopped to work. When I try to connect flashdrive via this cable it blinks only once and that's all. The folder USBOtg is empty -> nothing is shown (but I know that there are files). I tried to format flashdrive to various filesystems (NTFS, FAT32) -> no result.
Another strange thing after upgrade is with MicroSD folder. It shows me only old data. All new one that I copied to it via PC it doesn't show at all. AND!!! PC doesn't see the content of folder with name "external" on Xoom but when I copy there files from PC then Xoom can see them.
May anyone advice any steps to return usbotg and microsd in normal working state?
I tried to re-flash Xoom with previous various versions of firmwares (mods) -> the same situation.

Two different issues--if you read the release notes with the Hammerhead Rom, Team Tiamat removed the USB Mass Storage enabling that had been in earlier Rom, due to various difficulties. So that means you can no longer use your PC to copy files into the micro sd card in the Xoom, but you can cop files directly to the sdcard using an adapter or card reader. Your Xoom should still have access to the files on your micro sd card at mnt/external1.
The usbOTG works fine for me but it needs the help of an app like USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG or Drive Mount. Both will work. It also helps to reboot with the drive plugged in the first time if you are having a hard time getting the Xoom to recognize it.
Thanx! Drive Mount helped me with recognizing and mounting flash drive (but only after Xoom reboot with drive plugged in). USB Storage Watcher OTG crashes everytime when I start it with drive connected -> with disconnected it starts normally but won't see any after-connected drives. Ssems that I'll use Drive Mount program
As for MicroSD -> even connected directly to PC and copied some files to it Xoom still sees only old data. Any ideas?

Actually, try checking the folder mnt/external1 (1) as this is HC3.2's official mount point. The Microsd mount point is an artifact of an older Rom.

Your cable will never work because it is not OTG. OTG has a different pin configuration to allow the Xoom to function in usb host mode. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could make one, but why not buy one, they are availble. Here is my Google search for USBOTG Xoom to get you started: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=usb+otg+xoom&aq=2s&aqi=g1g-s9&aql=&oq=usbOTG

Card reader not being detected by the PC AND Why can't my card reader/writer be detected by my PC?
SOLUTION 1 - Verify if minimum system requirement is met.
SanDisk card readers support Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 7.
NOTE: No additional drivers need to be downloaded for the card readers as they are native to the above mentioned supported operating systems.
SOLUTION 2 - Verify the reader's status under Device Manager.
STEP 1 - Connect the reader to the PC
NOTE: It is recommended that you plug your card reader to the back USB port on your PC to ensure that there is enough power from the USB port for the card reader to be detected properly.
STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager
1. Right-click My Computer.
2. Select Manage.
3. On the left pane, click Device Manager.
NOTE: The card reader will appear in two places: Disk Drives and Universal Serial Bus controls as USB Mass Storage. If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) next to the device, try to refresh the drivers.
STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
STEP 4 - Verify if the reader is detected
1. Double-click My Computer.
2. Look for the card reader under Devices with removable storage.
SOLUTION 3 - Try other USB ports.
A yellow exclamation point (!) under Device Manager usually means that the device is not receiving enough power. If the reader is not receiving ample amount of power from the USB port, it may not function properly.
SOLUTION 4 - Change the drive letters
NOTE:The SDDR-89, SDDR-189, SDDR-289 reader should show 4 drive letters under My Computer..

Data becomes corrupted when using microSDHC card in mobile devices running Android OSWhy does the data on my microSDHC card becomes corrupted when I use it in a cellphone running Android OS?
After you backed up your data, you can simply format your card to using it in your phone again.

Thanks for your post! I've been having issues where anything that I save to my SD gets corrupted and I've already tried reformatting it from my phone (I don't have a computer right now... my laptop bit the dust not too long ago...) but I'm still having the same problem... any ideas why this might be happening?

You can try this I hope it helps http://smallbusiness.chron.com/android-compatibility-microsdhc-68426.html
Guys can you post some screenshots of how Android 6.0 reacts with external USB OTG storage (pen drives / hard disks) ?
I have heard that Android M now supports USB OTG natively.
It also shows notifications when an external USB storage is detected.
I am curious to see this in action... Can any of you post a video of this on a purely stock Nexus 5 running Android M ?
TIA
Working
Working Perfectly
Plug&Play, it even offered to format my NTFS flashdrive.

What are you talking about ?
If the system recognizes it then why wont File Managers like ES File Explorer recognize it ?
I think your External Storage if formatted in NTFS thats why it is not being recognised by ES File explorer.
If this is the case then format it to FAT32 and please reply back on the status.
Also, does the system show a notification when you plug in your storage on Android 6.0 ?

I think the reason could be that ES File Explorer has not been updated to work with Android M.
I hope someone else on this forum might know something and reply on this issue.
If you come to know anything do reply.
Can you tell me what notification comes up the moment you plug in your USB storage ? (A screenshot perhaps)

Hope that Here drive also update to access SD card. Dont want it in internal storage
This came up
Android 6.0 natively recognizes and mounts my OTG USB stick. However I do wish it supported more than FAT32. I'm hoping Stickmount gets updated to work with 6.0, because that works with FAT32, NTFS and exFAT.
Nothing happens for me when I plug it in. Why is that,
The strange thing is that it seems that the usb stick is not really mounted anywhere!
i can't find it in /mnt or elsewhere...
so it's completley useless... i can just open files from usb stick with the android default file manager but i cant copy or move files anywhere or use usb stick with other apps...
I can't even mount it manually or with stickmount as i did on lollipop....

ES File explorer does recognise the USB OTG drive although it does not show on the homepage for some unknown reason.
To access your drive using ES file explorer just open the app and slide out the menu from the left side.
You will find your drive in the "Local" tab.
Hi, I think I found a way to make it work with my Nexus 6 on 6.0. I initially formatted my USB via phone (so it gave me a FAT32 partition) and it was correctly recognised by the system, so I could manage it and run music through my phone settings. It was located in ES File manager too but it had a weird label and nothing inside was shown, neither I could use it in Poweramp (as an example). When I tried to format it into NTFS it wasn't shown correctly by system (it suggested me to re-format it into FAT32) but I could actually find it into ES File explorer after using Stickmount into sdcard/usbstorage, then I could use it into Poweramp as a normal folder. It's kinda weird but it works here...
ES file explorer is bloated and fugly, I suggest Amaze or Cabinet.

Thanks man! This adoptable storage bs from google was driving me crazy. Now I can finally accomplish extremely difficult tasks like playing music from a microsd card on my Nexus 7.
I would add that with Stickmount you can go ahead and format your external storage into FAT32 and have both the system and the user apps (like Poweramp) read it.
i was able to read and copy from usb to nexus 5 . But it shows error when i tried to copy from phone to usb . it was FAT 32 formated so i guess stock marshmallow only allows to read. Is it like that for me or its possible to write too???
how to transfer files using otg in marshmallow. we can able to view and use the files. if i need to transfer files from usb to mobile ?
In Marshmallow, it will automatically recognised your drive and show a usb symbol on the status bar on top.
You can now go to Settings - Storage&USB. Touch it and it will bring up the marshmallow own file manager. In this file manager, you can copy-paste file from the external drive to your internal storage.
If you want a full control. Use Root explorer or ES File manager. The external drive is located in "mnt - media_rw - your drive".
Always make sure to eject the drive after used. Only Fat32 file system.
Note: You can actually ditch out the stickmount app for good...
Copying from Internal Storage to External USB gives a "Copy Task Failed" Result with
Unsupported Operation

on ES File Manager
But copying from external to internal works fine
You've got to get Stick Mount (latest update) and make sure the OTG mounts. If it does successfully, a toast appears showing WHERE it has mounted, and go to that location. For me, it was in
/sdcard/usbstorage/sda1
Weird it created a new path in the local memory itself, never seen that happen before.
But yeah, I just went to that path via Root Explorer and had full control over the data in the OTG like always
:good:
Based on my recent playing on my Nexus 5, ES File Explorer doesn't seem to be able to write to USB OTG. I ended up using USB OTG File Manager for Nexus.
