you need to reread that OP. you didnt do what he said at all.
Build.prop changes aren't needed anymore. There's a new .apk that works without it.

Has anybody got this working. I followed a tutorial and ran the bootsnd.sh through terminal emulator and can clearly see "bootsound" in system/bin but I can't seem to get any sounds to play on the boot animation. I've renamed to "Android_audio.mp3" and "poweron.mp3" and placed in system/media and still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
can you link to the thread that guides how to do that?
I searched but couldn't find it.
Look in build.prop if bootsound is disabled There. Maybe thats your Problem

Can't see any lines in build.prop to do with bootsound Where is that line & if it doesn't exist, what line do I have to put in? I have PowerOn.ogg & android_audio.mp3 files in *sdcard/system/media* (also in system/etc folder!) I've tried the bootsnd.sh trick in adb/cmd prompt & terminal emulator to enable sound on boot, but have had no luck!

To fix the network error, edit two lines in the build.prop to add GT-I9300

Thanks . Works on Galaxy note ics
What i did -
1. Unrar the file and copy the apk file
2. Copy to system/app folder
3. Change permission to rw-r-r
restart phone.
Silly question, but does this require root?

it is a system app, use root explorer or terminal or something to put it in /system/app and change the permissions to 755 (rw-r--r--) and it will work. probably not correctly.

To the other guy
"What is VM?"
VM is the ability to listen to messages approximately 10-15 seconds faster than using traditional VM. This results is savings me about 2-5 minutes per month which makes it worth while to pay the $2.99 fee for the Verizon service
EDIT:
From the looks of the file, it appears to be an APK. Any reason why you renamed it as a zip? -Also the APK failed to install. Any idea why? I tried zipaligning again just in case, but it wouldn't zipalign.
hmmm
not sure why that happened
rename it to .apk
then
Use a file explorer with root access and drop it in /system/app/, set perms to rw-r--r-- and reboot

You shouldn't try to 'install it'
by copying it to system/app and changing permissions it IS installed

Bump. Having the same problem
How is the Verizon visual VM? Been wondering if it is worth using.
My phone book search become case sensitive.
For example if I have a phone book entry as "David Paul", then to locate the same I have to put first or last name in search window with the same format (D or P Capital). If I put "david" or "paul" in search window then it doesn't work.
Few days back there was no such problem.
Can any body guide me, how to correct this...
Thanks in advance.

Maybe try looking at the settings and see if you can find something there?
What app do you use ?
Thanks friends.

I am using Samsung Google Nexus S 4G, rooted, using Custom ROM of Slimbean with OS 4.2.2, using stock app only for Contacts.

So then try extracting the contacts app from an older version of the ROM found within the zip in the system then app folder, it might be called secContacts.apk. Move it into the /system/app directory of your current ROM and it might work. If not, tell me.

Actually in the process of fixing this small issue I might have mis-handled few system files and my mobile had stopped working, network signals had completely vanished and I am not able to use my phone for calls as well as texts.
Then some body had suggested Odin Restore, which is something difficult for me, but while searching the remedy I got a ROM in xda only, after flashing the same, my phone got started and the contact search issue has also resolved.
In have attached the image of flashed ROM.

Not for 100% of the time. They made immersive apps but that's it. Please read before posting ignorant comments.

On the N4 it was possible with:
Go to system/build.prop/ and add the following line at the end of the build.prop file: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Reboot.
To re-enable set 0 to 1 and reboot
Don`t know if this will also work on the N5, need root off course.

Root access -enables- you to mount /system as R/W. It does not mean every file explorer app does so 'on the fly'. First make sure /system is mounted as R/W, then edit build.prop.
