For some reason the info under my Google Dashboard > Android device is nearly blank. Basically, when I click on the link 'Data stored for your xxxx Android device' all I see is the IMEI number and the last date that I activated/accessed my phone.
Here is some background.
I've only ever owed the single Nexus S, which has always been backed up with my Google account. Long ago, when I was just on stock (no root, nothing) my casual browsing showed what info my Google account had backed up regarding my Android settings etc (number of wifi spots, passwords etc). All was as per what might be expected.
Since rooting, I have flashed a number of different ROMs, including PixelROM, CyberGR, MIUI Catalyst (among others) and now my current constant is AOKP (b36). Goes without saying that I don't "dirty flash": always wipe as much possible before flashing new ROM/kernels etc. As far as I know the info about my Android phone has always been backed up into the Google account. The possible exception is MIUI which showed something weird instead of the info about the Google account I was backing up with. In checking whether the MIUI ROM was storing info in my Google account, I might have unchecked the backup option (which supposedly deletes all user info) and re-enabled it.
Since then, my Google dashboard shows only the IMEI number and when my phone was last accessed. A recent wipe showed me it *is* storing info about wifi passwords etc in my Google account -- basically when it signed into my account, it restored wifi settings etc. For some reason, a summary of this info just isn't appearing under Dashboard the way it should. My friend who is also running AOKP on a Nexus S showed me that a summary of his phone backup info does appear under Dashboard (where mine does not).
Any ideas/thoughts about what might be going on? Its not something I'm too worried about, just a little irritating that it doesn't show the info.

Never mind, the process of wiping completely, flashing a stock ROM and logging in, then reinstalling AOKP appears to have allowed Google to start logging me the way I like.. again.
Could mods delete this thread? Turned out to be pretty pointless.

So my understanding of the Backup settings is that your settings, like ringtones and applications will be loaded onto googles server so they can be restored if you do a factory reset.
I just flashed the beta 2 Cyanogen ROM but none of my applications are coming back to me. I had the backup selected before, so i dont know if i just need to be patient or what. its been like half an hour, i expected to see at least something by now.
Can anyone give me more information about this feature? I haven't been able to find much.

Back up my settings

If you replace your phone, the settings you've backed up are restored onto the new phone the first time you sign in with your Google Account. If you check this option, a wide variety of settings are backed up, including your Wi-Fi passwords, bookmarks, a list of the applications you've installed, the words you've added to the dictionary used by the onscreen keyboard, and most of the settings that you configure with the Settings application. If you uncheck this option, you stop backing up your settings, and any existing backups are deleted from Google servers.
I've had the backup settings checked and it worked perfectly for me. It reinstalled about 30 apps right after signing into google after flashing.
My only problem with it is that after it reinstalls everything I have no access to root. All my apps that require root hang at the SU request page and I never get the buttons to allow access.
Anyone else experience this? I haven't tried it with the new CM rom but it happened with enom's add on.

I think flashing a custom ROM changes the identifier or signature of your phone, so you won't get that backed up information synching back with your phone.
My network icons (WiFi, Cell Signal) used to turn blue (showing connectivity to Google). I tried XenonHD and decided it wasn't for me so I flashed back my Nandroid of the 4.1.1 OTA from kibmcz. For some reason, it seems that after flashing back, my icon never turns blue, even though I can connect to the Play Store, retrieve Gmail, receive Google Voice notifications, etc.
Any thoughts on how to restore this background connection to allow my network icons to turn blue?
I'm backing up (TB) and getting a Nandroid, then reflashing. I think it may be due to the device ID. This was the first time I chose to get the old device ID back when restoring from TB, instead of choosing ignore and keep the new device ID.

I've never had issues with changing or not changing the device ID (I've done both over the course of trying out way too many roms). Any chance you accidentally restored some system or Google date with TB? That could cause some problems. In general, don't restore through TB unless there is unrecoverable data that doesn't really interact with the system (such as game scores). If you can restore the data from somewhere else (email from a server, etc) do that. Restore any apps that don't need their data restored from the Play Store (translate, browsers, etc)
Instead of reflashing the OTA, I decided to go with a CM10 (listed in signature). This time I selected "Ignore (keep the new device ID)" and this seemed to work. Coincidental or not, the only time this has been an issue is when I told TB to restore the device ID. Perhaps a TB bug? I'm not sure. I've always restore almost everything stored in TB and never had any issues, especially since I typically don't flash multiple ROMs. I usually stick to stock OTA.

Hello everyone, I am stock and non-Rooted.
During the initial setup I skipped the backup&restore setup, and now I wanted to let it backup again in case I want to unlock the bootloader or something.
Now if I go to Settings > Backup & reset and tick "Back up my data", the button below "Backup account" is disable and grayed out and says "No account is currently storing backed up data".
There is no way that I can setup the account.
I even read somewhere that I should have restarted the phone, I did and my account appeared automagically... but later the same day or the day after it disappeared again!
I have no clue and it really looks like a bug in the system.
Sorry - I do not know what would cause that option to be grayed out (assuming you have set up a google account, and selected that as the backup account on that screen)
But just so you know, this backup will not backup all your data (or even your app data).
It (currently) backs up a very limited set of data (like WiFi settings/app list from playstore/)
It will not backup your pictures (assuming you don't have auto-backup enabled in dropbox/G+), game progress (for games that do not have google play integration), personal files, SMS, call logs - all of which will get wiped if you unlock bootloader.
You may want to look at helium backup as an option to backup all data. (If you were rooted, titanium backup would be my recommendation)

In fact, I think I prefer an on-demand solution rather than a background process which uses battery and network.
I installed Helium and activated using the desktop application.
I now only have a couple of doubts...
Where does the backup get stored when I save on local storage? I would of course like to transfer those files over to Dropbox instead of leaving them on the same phone.
Do the local settings, like WIFI passwords and such also get saved? It's not clear from the UI.

Alright... I googled around a bit and found out there's actually no way to save my stored WIFI passwords without ROOT...
This pretty much sucks as that was one of my most wanted...
The only option I have is really the Google-own backup system, so if anyone had an answer on how to make it work (my first post) that would be great.
As of lately, whenever I flash a new ROM or install a new vanilla version of android on my devices, I do the opt in for the google backup hoping that information about my settings (doze, do not disturb, wifi passwords, etc) get backed up so I dont start from scratch everytime.
Despite of this, everytime I set up a new clean install, I find out all my commonly visited places I have to re-enter my wifi password (parents house, frequeted coffee shops, etc). Arent these supposed to be backed up with the google opt-in thingy?
I even do the NFC thing where you touch your device and it passes the info one to another (eg, from my phone to tablet) and nothing.
I also use Titanium Backup but cant seem to find the specific function for this. Do I just overwrite the settings app? Im sort of new to ROMing and stuff and Im afraid it will mess up my devices...

So, I'm running an old Nexus 6P
Android 8.1.0
Stock Rom, Rooted (Magisk)
A few months ago, I noticed some apps were no longer logged in. I tried logging in and authentication failed (mostly silently)
Twitter: account login gives message "cannot create account"
Pocketcasts: login appears to work, but actually fails silently
Dropbox: "Unknown error, please contact Dropbox customer support."
Apps that continue to work: Facebook, LINE, Instagram, Mega,
By trying Tweetings, I am able to get a semi-useful error message from Twitter: "401: Authentication credentials (https://dev.twitter.com/auth/docs) were missing or incorrect. Ensure that you have set valid consumer key/secret, access token/secret, and the system clock is in sync."
My guess is that there's something wrong with how my phone deals with Oauth, since it's broken on multiple apps.
Things I've tried:
uninstalling and reinstalling the apps
upgrading to the final version of the stock ROM for the Nexus 6p (I was a year behind)
checking my clock settings to make sure time zone is correct and that network time is on
Things I'd rather avoid:
factory reset (it takes me a long-ass time to get my phone set up the way I want it after that, and it will be especially bad if it then doesn't work)
Any ideas? My even older Nexus 6 (also rooted) has no problems like this at all, so it does seem to be some kind of issue on the phone.
