Network icons never turn blue anymore on JB - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My network icons (WiFi, Cell Signal) used to turn blue (showing connectivity to Google). I tried XenonHD and decided it wasn't for me so I flashed back my Nandroid of the 4.1.1 OTA from kibmcz. For some reason, it seems that after flashing back, my icon never turns blue, even though I can connect to the Play Store, retrieve Gmail, receive Google Voice notifications, etc.
Any thoughts on how to restore this background connection to allow my network icons to turn blue?

I'm backing up (TB) and getting a Nandroid, then reflashing. I think it may be due to the device ID. This was the first time I chose to get the old device ID back when restoring from TB, instead of choosing ignore and keep the new device ID.
Update coming soon...

I've never had issues with changing or not changing the device ID (I've done both over the course of trying out way too many roms). Any chance you accidentally restored some system or Google date with TB? That could cause some problems. In general, don't restore through TB unless there is unrecoverable data that doesn't really interact with the system (such as game scores). If you can restore the data from somewhere else (email from a server, etc) do that. Restore any apps that don't need their data restored from the Play Store (translate, browsers, etc)

Instead of reflashing the OTA, I decided to go with a CM10 (listed in signature). This time I selected "Ignore (keep the new device ID)" and this seemed to work. Coincidental or not, the only time this has been an issue is when I told TB to restore the device ID. Perhaps a TB bug? I'm not sure. I've always restore almost everything stored in TB and never had any issues, especially since I typically don't flash multiple ROMs. I usually stick to stock OTA.
Thanks for the reply, dvorak. I may start doing that if I switch ROMs and not just re-flash the same ROM.

[Q] Best Practice for Setting up all my accounts when changing ROMs?

So every time I wipe my phone to install a new rom, I have to log in/set up probably 15 apps. Filling in login and password for each can take some serious time. Over the weekend I flashed a custom rom and it wasn't until a few hours passed that I remembered to set my work email back up. What are others doing to handle all these logins and such?
I have Titanium backup, though I am a little fuzzy on if restoring app data is safe/effective when switching roms to accomplish what I'm trying to do. Especially so that I did a full backup when I was on stock firmware and now many of the apps from the stock firmware are no longer on my phone.
So to summarize, I need a quick(ish) way to get re-connected to my life once I've done a clear data/cache and flashed a new rom.
Thank you!

Combine Google Play Devices

This was my first experience today flashing a custom rom, and I was really annoyed by one big issue. For some reason, google detected the new rom as an entirely different device, and so it didn't sync anything. On the play store, I now have two devices listed, a verizon SCH-I535, and a verizon SCH-I535. Is there anyway to combine these two or to force the new rom to id itself as the old on to prevent this?
Edit: Sorry for not mentioning this earlier, but the new rom I tried was CM10, although I seemed to be having the same issue with Synergy, but everything syncs up just fine when I flash back to root66.
I have had success using titanium backup to restore my "Android ID" after it was changed. It just pops up and asks you right when you start the app after you've backed up and changed roms. You may have success getting Google's backup to restore that way... I personally disable Google's backup and use titanium only, because you get more control over the whole process that way.
Is there anyway to manually change your Android ID so I can switch it back to what it was on the stock Rom? Also, is this normal to be getting a different ID for each ROM? Also I thought the whole point of Android's sync was so that when you get a new phone/device, it would be able to update that new device to have the same apps/contacts/etc as your old device. Does this option have to be specifically enabled? If not, then why is it not working correctly for me?

Hmm.. just came to mind, why does the button say "Edit/Delete" and yet there is no option to delete?

google restoring apps

Most times when I load a cm7 or above ROM, all my apps get restored as soon as I log into the play store... now suddenly it isn't. Is there something I'm not doing?
For me it sometimes randomly happens, or maybe it has to do with it not connecting correctly to google because of poor connection or something.
Sent from my sweet & buttery Infuse
I don't think its poor connection, I'm on my home WiFi. When it works, it works great. All the apps, WiFi keys, and Bluetooth keys as well... when it don't, it REALLY dont!
I've noticed it too, seems to be rom specific, some roms do it, some don't. when I go thru the setup after flashing a rom, I have the option to restore apps, and another option to back up this phone with google. there have been a few roms where I only had the option to backup the phone to google, no option to restore apps from google. I don't remember which roms, should have made a list.
I'm with you, but the last two cm10 roms I've used, both had the backup & restore options, but did nothing once installed. I can flash Scott's cm10, not paranoid, the other one, and it will load allthe apps I had minutes before flashing. Cm7 does the same thing, but others just leave me high and dry only restoring bookmarks.

I think titanium backup killed my wifi

So I was merrily flashing Liquid Smooth onto my phone, and everything seemed to be working out nicely. Then, all of a sudden this stupid pop up comes up every 10 seconds saying "unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped". This seemed to start not long after I tried to restore my backup of the wifi access points. I also cannot seem to connect to any wifi signal (which I had no problems with before) and the wifi seems to be stuck in between on and off.
I would assume that if someone can tell me the database or location of where the access points are saved, I would assume if I were to delete/modify that file it should fix my problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm having the same issue. Probably going to have to do a stock restore and re-root

Yeah, lots of warning around, NOT to restore data with Titanium BAckup when going between different ROMs, It will often hose things because data is often not in precisely the same place.
This is strange. I always restore my Wi-Fi access points, call log, and text messages through tibu (only 3 data parts I restore) and have never had an issue. Was your backup from a tw rom initially? That's the only thing I can think of being a culprit. I restore those items across all aosp roms without issue.
WiFi access points are usually stored in your Google account. When I did all my custom stuff on my S3 Google always restored them. Did you have that option enabled on your phone for Google to save your settings?

Problem is, if you install a custom ROM or different ROM, Google will often think its a different phone and restore nothing but your contacts.

Question Android 13 update made a mess of my Pixel 6A, need to backup, reset and restore

Don't know what happened, but the A13 update basically borked my phone. Dialer, messages, fingerprint reader, screen handling, notifications, Android Auto, etc ALL no longer work correctly. I never know how exactly the phone will behave on any given interaction. Its a mess. It was working perfectly fine on A12
So, I have to do some kind of a reset. I NEED my messages and call logs to be correct on restore (use it for lots of business stuff), everything else, whatever is backed up will be ok.
I tried doing a migration from the A13 6A to a factory reset Moto Edge 21 with A12 on it, and the A13 Pixel refuses to cooperate. Android migration usually works pretty well, but in this case, the 6A A13 refused to see the Moto A12, and gave me some super weird Android File Manager error message. I planned on using the Moto Edge as a data mule, reset the 6A, then migrate everything back.
So, I need to do a backup, reset and restore and am dubious of Google One actually working. Open to suggestions or actual experiences of how to do this with minimal disruption. Most of the internet "guides" on resetting are useless, and don't address how not to lose and/or destroy your data (text/messages, call logs, etc, incl MMS)
The only thing I can think of is using Wondershare Mobiletrans for backup and restore and cross my fingers that it'll actually work.
I use Swift Backup to backup and restore now. I would give that a try.
I use swift as well...but u have to have a backup app already in place BEFORE getting borked...lol There's limited options for going back to 12. As mentioned in the big PSA warning thread at the top...if u try to do a common rollback, google's ARB (anti-rollback) if triggered, WILL HARD=BRICK your phone! Then u have to send it back to google for a factory reset meaning ofc loss of all data. So plz use caution and no matter how u chose to proceed...Swift Backup is a gem! A one-time purchase ano NO monthly fees! Best regards...
Try updating again, I got two Android 13 updates on mine, the first one broke the fingerprint reader, then I hit update again, and it downloaded another update that subsequently fixed it.
If you just want to backup messages and phone calls, I use this:
SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Google Play
A simple app that backs up and restores SMS & MMS messages and call logs.
play.google.com
Can back up to cloud as well as your device.
Otherwise I've had no issues with the Google backup in Settings.
