If it's Stock Un-rooted it will not have it. Do you want a Task Manager, or a Task Killer? I would stay away from Task Killers. They do way more harm than good.

From home you go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Running services...
If there's anything you want to kill just select it and pick "Stop". That's the android task killer AFAIK.

In one rom i had, there was a mod for wm6 where you clicked OK and it would close the application, making my memory always clear... The app was called HTC task manager

Personally I don't think this appz works...cause when I go into setting and memory ....my appz is still open...and yes I have mark the x to close the appz in HTC setting.
x-button is working fine, its not enoguh to install it though, next step is to TURN close option ON in menu start/settings tab system end of list......
but if you need nice alternative...
switch 1.25 is neat app, imo, icon can be set anywhere on taskbar , nad remembers its position with portrait/landscape independently..

Ok i have a sprint diamond upgraded to new sprint rom and i just hate the little lines with the arrow that pulls down to show you to close programs or the wrench.
HOW the heck do you get ride of it?
before the update i downloaded Twosen taskbar and got ride of it but since i upgraded to the new updated rom its back even though i loaded a custom taskbar.
anyone?
Just go to settings -> task manager -> button and then uncheck the last checkbox.
What is the problem with this feature? I don't see the point actually...
thanks got it, there is nothing wrong with it just a preference that i would like it to be gone is all
again thank you

Aah NICE I was just browsing around, kinda like this as well, nice and old school
This is probably one of the best apps I have seen in a long time!
1. Get it on the market
2. Set as default home
3. Set the home you were using before in settings
4. Double tap home anywhere and see a mini homescreen!
It's VERY similar to Apple's overlay feature on Macs (middle button) which lets you put widgets and access them at any time.
Try it out!

YES! Exactly what I need when I walk outside and bam the sunlight hits the screen, press home twice to access the power control widget and turn the brightness up, never even leaving the app I was in! I love Faruq Rasid's work, first the HelixLaunchers and now QuickDesk!
This is pretty slick.
Nice job!

Same here! It's perfect!
I've used this since it was in Alpha.\ and I absolutely love it! Everyone should use this.
If you didn't set it up properly, it says you can clear defaults in your Android applications settings if the popup doesn't appear.
Where exactly is that. I don't want to end up clearing the wrong stuff.
Manage apps in settings menu, choose app, and then choose clear defaults.
Sweet app....very useful as I need Lamppu while under a desk while using pinout so thanks!

It's not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing.

It doesn't actually say, but if you see it in the Marketplace it most likely will work with your device.
Wow this is actually really useful! Thans for letting us know about this apk
Sent from my Droid Incredible
I don't know if this is just me... because I haven't seen anyone else complain.
It looks like a very nice concept, but my phone would lag all over the place when I used this app. When I would select applications some would be unresponsive and when I would select from a list, the highlight would flicker... Did I do something wrong? Should I just try reinstalling it?
**edit... I tried reinstalling it... I encountered the same problem again. But then I messed with some of the settings and it worked fine. Great app!
If you guys are not too sure on how to setup QuickDesk on your phone, here a guide for you, http://droidbar.net/2010/09/quickdesk-setup-guide/
Okay, the stock task switcher is effective, but in no way flashy. And of course the market has nothing good. I was wondering if anyone knew of any apps or mods that replace the stock switcher with a more stylish one. Preferably somewhat similar to the iphone 4 (what can I say, it's worse than the n1, but they make it look so nice ) or even cards like on the palm pre.
The only thing I found that was even close was Movial Task Switcher, but I can't find any release for it. Here's what it looks like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfsQm8m7G8s
Thanks in advance
I am sorry I have no contribution ATM... but that app is sweet!
Isn't it. And since the N1 has twice the processing power, it would be completely fluid.
did anyone get a hold of this app yet?
Yup I'm interested too
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Wow I didn't even know that that was possible to do unless you have a specialised ROM with the added code & root access... Is that actually real? Looks awesome!

Took some time to do some googling and I came up empty trying to find where I can get this... This looks amazing, if anyone knows where a release of this can be found, please do share
wow this is amazing. they seriously need to release this ASAP.
I have sent them an Email and will still email them till they answer... if more people email them they might maybe release it!
Is that video actually from May? that is ages ago. Why have I never seen this!
yup these guys must have died or something...
For iphone-esque task switching, download"Task tray " from the market.
Obviously Froyo has removed the ability to kill tasks, but switching works well nonetheless.
Yupe, the Movial Task Switcher is pretty nice! Wow! Hope the owner release it soon. I don't even might if it a paid apps. (off course with reasonable price).

You can try Visual Task Switcher, from market, it isn't prefect, but it's pretty nice. It use app thumbnails to show apps.

The only way to kill an app in Froyo is Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, select the app, and choose "Force stop." No app can kill another app in froyo (so, Taskiller, etc. don't work). This was because task killers are pointless and detrimental to your Android system. They, and the bugs they cause, have become so common that Google had to fix the problem by disabling them all. However, I do think that those of us with su should re-implement this, in hopes that hackers/modders are smart enough to know not to use Taskiller. I just want a cool switcher app, with an ability to kill a renegade apps quickly and easily, with less than a dozen screen taps. Something like AppSwipe.
Wow, liking Visual Task Switcher. Could do with some polish but it does thumbnails like it says..

just got the email back from Movial
Hi,
Thanks for your interest in Movial. Unfortunately you can't get a hold of the Movial Task Switcher as it was made for demonstration purposes only, and we currently have no plans to release it as a commercial application.
Best regards,

Yep, just downloaded it as a result of your recommendation. It almost emulates the video in the OP. It only seems to show "open apps" (i.e. foreground tasks) not "recent apps" though... so if you exit an app it does not display... in some ways this is actually quite nice.
Even better with CM6 because you do NOT need to bind it to short press of Home key... in CM settings you can bind it to long press of Home key and completely replace the built in functionality!
Previews need a little polish and I'll reserve judgement for a few days but this may be quite good!
hi, is there anyway to disable a shortcut app when u download them? i have little problem, when i switch between rom and sign in to google, because i have too many app! they r all show up on my home screen, did the serch came up emty, thx.

go to the play store app, hit menu > settings > 4th box down is Auto-add Widgets. uncheck that box and return to the main menu. now you should be all set
^As said above.
I have GB market however, and to me it says "Auto add shortcuts". It depends if you're on ICS or GB to know which option you'll get.
