stock/rooted, running like a dog...next steps? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Am running the stock rom, am rooted and have CWM as well...but it's running like poo. I believe that's the technical term
Screen transition, lag on opening apps, FC here and there, very sluggish overall. I'm not sure if it's all the adding/removing of apps or just the factory junk that's on it (although have removed the Samsung 'Hub' apps via Titanium).
I haven't downloaded the update yet, because read it removes root.
To 'clean' up my problems, and get up to date, would it make sense to:
- factory reset
- install factory update
- install cwm
- root
Thanks!

errr....anyone?

I spent the better part of the weekend rooting, flashing, unrooting, flashing...
It seems to be a fairly common occurrence to turn the tab into fecal matter (sounds more technical). Mine was laggy, jittery, and didn't want to wake up. I flashed it back to stock, which fixed it, but I lost root and haven't been able to get it back. Exhausted, I left it there and will try again tonight.
Curiously, I had mixed success with Odin and Heimdall. Odin seem to need the Sammy USB drivers. Heimdall wants its own. Heimdall installed Super User. Odin let me root so I could install from zip.
I still haven't got it all figured out, but it sure gets tiring rebooting the tab, the PC, the dog and reinstalling the drivers, downloading firmware, yadda, yadda...
Here's hoping one of the very talented developers here will come up with an idiot-resistant script for us (me).

It would be more helpful if you stated 7" or 10.1 tabs. Rooted my 10.1 once, after first reboot opened CWM and reboot a second time , all is well. Debloated w/ rom toolbox and installed apex launcher, sweet as can be.
Pp.

Ah. Sorry. I have Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) stuck in my brain.
Could they have picked an uglier name?

Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113 WIFI OTA Rooted.....

So it look like the JB OTA update is here for the USA. Mine is rooted, and has already download the update, but I haven't applied it yet, as I'm rooted and I don't know if I have to do something special first.....
Any one have any info on this?
Same Boat !!
Me too in same boat with P3113.See the post below yours :crying: Hope experts replies soon.
I went ahead and installed it on my daughters tab. CWM protected itself, and root. I'm still poking around, but thus far no issues beyond it says "update failed" but clearly didn't.
I'm wondering if I should remove CWM and unroot it first...
Run a nandroid real quick, back it up to your computer, and let 'er rip. Like I said, it's working perfectly for me. Then again my daughter is 7, so losing all her data isn't really a problem.
Updated with Root ?

So if i understand correctly , you allowed the OTA with root and it wiped data ? I am suprised it installed with Custom recovery !!!
I have over 200 user apps. Will i retain those Apps (dont mind data being wiped)
No, it didn't wipe data. I wasn't worried about it "if" it did, because it's my daughters, and I have TIBU for all her games from like last week.
Just to be perfectly clear. NOTHING went wrong. It installed the new O.S., booted fine, said the update failed, but the update didn't fail. Probably because CWM preserved root, and bootloader, so verification failed.
I ran it..... It updated thru CWM... Once done said update failed, but I had a new agreement to agree too. Sys info says its running 4.1.1.
If I have and issue, ill update here.
Failed for P3113
Based on your experience thought I would try too... Unfortunately failed miserably... I have Cwm 6.0.2.3 and attached is the crash log... Maybe some experts can give their views..
I guess I'll post my successful config just for the sake of comparison.
I'm currently running CWM 6.0.1.1. The tab was rooted with a file called gtab2_jellybean_rooter (think I got it from XDA, but i'm not positive) and had no other modifications/roms/etc.
If you're running any sort of ROM you're definitely boned, gotta wait for a ROM update. Beyond that, I'm not really sure what to say
To do the proper update, you should un-root and then re-root once done. That way you get the full support with your update if needed.
I am rooted, running CWM 6.0.2.3. I accepted the update and hit the install thinking that it would fail just as it does on a rooted SIII. The notification said the install had failed, but as others here have indicated, it appears as though the install was successful. I retained root and all seems to be normal; with one exception: It appears that the Tab no longer "sleeps" but shuts down completely. Regardless of whether I turn it off with the power button (short press) or if the screen simply goes to sleep, I have to long press the power button and it goes through a full boot.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting I am missing? I am not a noob at rooting, etc. as I have been doing it since my OG Droid on Verizon, but it surprised me when the update seemed to install (even Google Now is working), and I am stumped about this "shut down" that seems to happen.
I experienced the same thing. I was rooted and had installed CM10, went back to original backup, using latest CWM. I hit system update and it downloaded the update, asked me to continue. CWM asked me if I wanted to install unsigned zip, I accepted, and it went through. At first boot it said update failed, but like everyone else, it went through. I have had no issues at all. My tab goes to sleep correctly.
Have peace in mind.
I finished updating (unfortunately, the battery was 9%, so I had to wait for an hour to charge before doing anything) and I got "failed" error like everybody got, but the system shows 4.1.1 and the performance is improved, and I applied root again.

[ROM] Tab 3 7.0 SM-T210/R Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Update

This is the stock US KitKat ROM for The Galaxy Tab 3 7" Tablet. Finally found it after a bunch of hassle online, and figured I'd post it here to make things easier for everyone.
When I Odin'd this ROM, it actually upgraded my tablet, and left all my items installed (not guaranteeing this will work the same for everyone else).
Afterwards, I just Odin'd TWRP to reroot using Chainfire's SuperSU (no other Superuser would work) and called it good.
Caution: if you are using a custom ROM, this may not work without reflashing stock 4.1.2 since the 4.4.2 ROM appears to be an update, rather than a full ROM.
Rooted devices and custom kernels that are otherwise stock should be fine.
The cache, and if possible dalvik-cache should be cleared before flashing. Some of those files can sometimes interfere with upgrades.
It might be necessary to pinpoint apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
If that fails, it might be necessary to factory reset the device.
The Stock 4.1.2 ROM for the T210R is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-stock-sm-t210r-4-1-2-jellybean-odin-t2958676
The T210R...XAR file is for the 210R:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2iEgzRTFjrQTmI0ZjRBbWtOajQ&authuser=0
The ITV file is for the T210 (no R)
To download these ROMs, a torrent client is required (such as utorrent).
Anyone who wishes to contribute, please seed if you can after downloading ("Force Starting" the torrent will seed it indefinitely.)

I've seen both devices referenced together quite regularly, implying that they use the same ROM.
http://www.boeboer.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-3-7-sm-t210r-manual-guide-wifi/
And even use the same kernel from what I've read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439564
I would take standard precautions, such as having a odin image of your original software available and performing a backup of your current system (if able).
Perhaps someone else has some insight to this question?
edit: Looks like I had my information wrong. Found where I obtained the ROM from, it is for the T210R model, and was not intended for the T210.
There are custom ROMs that have been patched for use on both devices, which is where my confusion came from, but this is an official ROM.
I have gotten my hands on the T210(no R) ROM file, and have update the Links above.
I am not responsible for any failed attempts at flashing to either device.

First, thanks for this. I have the T210R. I tried using this and had the same result, it updated the tablet instead of loading a completely new version. I did however run into a problem...the tablet had many for closes and reboots to a point it was unusable and so I reverted back to my backup. Did you see this? Maybe I had a bad download?

I did not have this problem, but I didn't have much on my Tab either. (Some apps don't play well with KitKat upgrades.)
Torrents have multiple segmented hashchecks to make sure you get an uncorrupted download, but it might still be possible. I'm reasonably sure my file is OK since I've used it (can't speak for the non R file though).
Did you clear your cache, and if possible your dalvik cache? I've read that some of those files interfere with upgrades.
If you can pinpoint the apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
Other option would be to try a factory reset and see if that fixes it. (I understand not wanting to do that though.)
One more thing, if your ROM isn't stock, or stock rooted (custom kernel should be ok too), you may have to flash 4.2 before the 4.4 ROM will work on the device.
Right guys, here i go, just joined and first question!!!
i have not ever rooted a sm-t210 but it was rooted when i bought it second hand!
i have linux installed on my p.c. and was wondering if there is a way to upgrade to and official KITKAT!
as stated i am having problems because my SM-T210 wifi only! and want to update to kitkat official release!
but was hoping also that there is a way/method to root via LINX and not via windows!!
if that is not possible how do i go about it on windows!! as i can use a friends WINDOWS-P.C. if i must!
ah also my SM-T210 does not have the options to change the function of the USB-function,,,
i.e.
it used to have an option to,, use as a mass storege, media transfer or use with samsung keis,,, or some thing of the sort
but this option has dissapeared! may have been my fault!!!! as i uninstalled some system apps,
now it crashes and reboots whenever i try to turn of USB-DEBUGGING options in DEVELOPER-OPTIONS !!!!

Just to triple check, by the above quote you mean that if my tablet is currently rooted, I should still be fine to flash this update correct? [obviously it would become non-rooted once flashed and I'd have to re-root it as you mentioned you rooted after installing]
Also, how much space does this take up?
thanks

That is correct. I was rooted running the Werewolf custom OC kernel. I still had my tablet upgrade without wiping, and one other user has reported back saying the same. But I can not promise upgrade as opposed to overwrite.
The flash file once extracted, is about 1.4 GB, I don't know sizes beyond that. It does not repartition the tablet however.

Well this is awesome, system won't mount and I don't have a backup. Samsung website does NOT have the stock firmware, and attempting to get it for another country just to get this to load so I can flash a ROM leaves me with having to download at 15kbs. I am in the process of selling this to someone for their kid... And there are ZERO seeders for these files. Lovely.
Sorry, m'y post an error

For some (unknown) reason, Odin3 nor JOdin3 doesn't seem to work for flashing my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 device. For that reason I tried Heimdall-Frontend, but to make that work you need to extract the content of a stock ROM first.
Anyways, it still didn't lead to get my device into factory reset yet.
But that's another story on which I still have not yet found the answers needed to get the device successfully back into factory reset.
My guess is that the 'system.img' file, of Android 4.4.2, successfully has been loaded from Heimdall-Frontend, yet by going into reboot right away after Heimdall-Frontend releases the connected device, the download may be deleted.
I read that the cause of that may lie in the fact that Android 4.4.2 is only an update and no full ROM.

Is this normal?

Hello XDA!
I have some questions about my n8010. It is a tablet that I bought in Greece, in case that is necessary to know, and has an interesting background. It started late May. The tablet was unrooted and without any mods whatsoever. I was running the latest Jelly Bean update and had A TON of lag. I had replaced TouchWiz Launcher with Nova and a different gallery and music app with still a lot of lag. So I decided to flash CM11 since it would be lighter for the tablet. After some research I followed the root guide from Zedomax and everything was fine. I had root and so I proceeded doing a backup. This where everything got weird. The backup started but was stuck for long periods of time. After some time being stuck in a screen I decided I should force restart. After the Galaxy Note 10.1 logo appeared it just hanged there without booting into Jelly Bean. I checked recovery and download mode and they where all working fine so I flashed TWRP. It worked and so I took a backup and proceeded installing CM11. I had it already in my SD. I had followed the instructions in the XDA thread that said about removing a line to make it work on the n8010. The flash went great and after factory resetting I rebooted the tablet and everything was OK. At the first boot WiFi wouldn't work but after a reboot it was. The only thing that wasn't working was the video recording. It is a deal-breaker as I use it a lot. I had to switch ROMs. I tried CM10.2 and it still wouldn't. Same goes for Revolt. At lat I switched to a TouchWiz based ROM. Specifically Hyperdrive RLS8. Video was working so I stayed there. I was noticing that since I flashed CM11 my tablet showed up as an n8013 which was very weird but since these ROMs where designed for the n8013 I thought it was normal.
One ROM also had the front facing camera able to record. Upon further inspection I found that Download Mode had my tablet as an n8010 but with the flash count 0 and the status official! Now, I'm either super lucky or the completely opposite! It also says official under About Device! Fast forward a few months and I am now in a situation where the tablet lags once again like crazy. I uninstalled a couple of apps and also installed lighter alternatives and it's somewhat bearable. I was reading the Official OmniROM thread and saw that others also had issues, most of which had the new KitKat bootloader that I don't have, with YouTube and the Video Recording. The latest nightlies are said to have a fix. So I am thinking of installing OmniROM since I am lagging a lot and I would like Screen Mirroring to the Chromecast. My only concern is that I will either brick the tablet or the camcorder won't work. Many people have bricked their Notes and can't go back without the Samsung Service. Most have the new KitKat bootloader which I don't and I'm happy about. My tablet is in a weird situation, what should I do? Anybody else experiencing these issues? Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Edit: Forgot to say that I flashed Carbon ROM in September and I got a status 7 while flashing with PhilzCWM that I had installed in order to flash Hyperdrive. I had to flash back to Hyperdrive as it wouldn't boot after the status 7. It probably happened because it didn't have SE Linux support. If I do anything I'll flash the latest TWRP.

I would have fixed the original lag issues first. I would get it back to factory stock 100 percent, once back to factory I would do A factory reset and start all over. Get the system running stock as it should then reinstall apps one at a time. if it can't run stock for whatever reason other roms not going to fix the problem.
at least with factory stock you know what should be working. Instead of guessing if the problem is part of the new ROM

Thanks for the response!
Good idea! I was thinking of going back to stock and repeating everything. It should fix all my issues. It's too bad that I don't have a working stock backup and I will have to flash through Odin. The reason that I am not doing this is because I am afraid of making it even worse from the official status state that I have in Download Mode and my device is an n8013 under About Device. A flash back to stock through Odin would probably flash most of the system parts which would be kinda dangerous. But on the other hand that would mean that I could give it a brand new try with better luck possibly! It's not that TouchWiz ROMs don't work, it's AOSP that doesn't. I played a lot with Hyperdrive and seems like it's doing better from the lag prospective. But that's only gonna last 15 days. I am sure! So, I'll have your response in mind! Might try it out when I have some free time. Unfortunately, that will probably be Christmas.
Thanks,
Chris

I don't have any video playback issues. It's just the camcorder that doesn't work in AOSP ROMs.
Yes.My use of the word "video" should have been "video recording".
The time has come!
Hello everyone, happy holidays!
The time has come that I follow your instructions. I've done my research and here's how I'll do it. Do you agree? Do you have any other suggestions?
Take full backups with my current configuration (Hyperdrive RLS8, PhilzCWM)
Factory reset the device and clean it up so that there is a lot of space
Install Samsung Drivers
Flash Stock Greek 4.1.2 Frimware (N8010XXUCMK2_N8010OXXCMK2_HOME.tar.md5) through ODIN v3 1.85
Let it boot up and do a factory reset from stock recovery
Flash TWRP 2.8.1.0 for the GT-N8010 (openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-gt-n8010) (I chose this version since it has the most downloads)
Make a full backup once again
Flash Omni ROM 4.4.4 (omni-4.4.4-20141222-n801x-NIGHTLY)
Flash SuperSU (UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40)
Flash PA GApps (pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.4-20141214-signed.zip)
Factory reset
REBOOT!
Check everything (Video, model, download mode, bugs, etc.)
REPORT!
If everything goes correctly I believe I should be OK! Hope my issues will be over since the tablet is slow once again. Kinda scared, so that's why I'm asking you. Will I be (mostly) brick safe? Hope so!
Thank you very much for your support,
Chris
P.S.: Should I root before leaving stock? I mean through TWRP.

I did it! It worked. Everything went OK but:
- Flash count is 0 and status official
- Back camera records in slow-mo
- Chromecast mirroring does not work
However:
-My device is an N8010
-I use the front camera instead
-Mirroring was not really needed
-LAG IS HISTORY!!! [emoji50] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2]
I am so impressed by the performance, still doesn't best my nexus 4 with KK 4.4.4 but it's a GIGANTIC IMPROVEMENT! Veeery happy! Thank you for your support, I wouldn't be here without you!

[Q] New Note Pro?

Hey guys, I just got my Note Pro a week ago and just started looking into rooting. I keep getting a notification about a 128mb stability update. I would assume it's gonna update to the latest build but I'm not sure what the latest build is or if it'll be rootable afterwords. my current build is KOT49H.P900UEU1ANAE. What is the latest build #? Is there a list of updates somewhere detailing what the improvements are? I just want to root, debloat, turn off OTA and remove KNOX.
Edit: sorry forgot to mention it's just the wife model SM-P900
So 48 views and not one person can tell me the latest build# ? I'll figure out the rest.

Have you checked SamMobile?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P900/XAR/
How i got there:
http://www.sammobile.com
1. Click Firmware on the top.
2. Click the greyed out firmware database link under the blue banner.
3. Under "Select your firmware" I picked Tablet-->Android-->SM-P900....-->Cellular South (which matches the US variants)

Thanks muzzy! I had already been to SamMobile but all it had was foreign countries listed. I didn't know about Cellular South being the US version. I'll look again.
Edit: oh look a list of the updates and release dates! My Wi - fi reception seems slow, do any of the update fix that?
I honestly can't say. I'm on NC5 which is dated back in April and have no major issues.
I'm rooted and debloated though, not that this would impact the wifi performance . .
48 views doesn't mean 48 users. About 44 of those are Google Content Crawler, which is Google search engine's bots crawling the net for content to display in google.com. It is an automated process.
Samsung doesn't release changelists, so we don't know what each update does beyond what we can see.
Thanks for the help guys! I just accepted the first update and it took me to ANC5. I guess I'll have to accept all updates until current and then try CF-Auto-Root. I'll report back then.
Actually I just got my tablet like a week ago as well. I m on the same build no as well....haven't updated yet. I also haven't installed Knox either. There is a download arrow on the Knox icon and if I click the icon it starts downloading so I just cancel it. I am thinking of rooting as well. Well what I m trying to say is...keep the thread updated and I will just follow your lead.....hehe.
It always helps to know your country as well as different countries are on slightly different versions. You can always go to sanmobile.com, click on firmware and search for p-900. That will give you the list of all the latest ROMs for different countries / carriers. US based ROMs are listed as "Cellular South".
Successful Root!
Okay guys sorry it's taken so long to respond, I had hernia surgery on Monday so I've been behind on getting this rooted.
My plan was to use CF-Auto-Root and then load TWRP recovery and then load "Debloat Stock Variant" by Gatsrom. I decided to do it in that order because I wasn't sure I could load a custom recovery without being rooted first.
I accepted all updates up to the current = P900UEU1BNK1. Using Win 7 and loaded Samsung drivers. Downloaded ODIN 3.09, Odin 3.07 came with CF-Auto-Root and downloaded TWRP. Booted into download mode and made sure ODIN recognized my P900. And this is when to fun began! Everything seem to be going okay but I did run into a snag. I used ODIN 3.07 because that's what came with Auto- Root and I'd read somewhere of people having trouble with 3.09??? Anyways I got a red "FAIL" message and my screen displayed multicolored lines. I tried running it in ODIN 3.09 and got the same result. (i didn't disconnect anything between the 3.07 or 3.09 attempts, maybe i should have?). I disconnected my P900 and it rebooted giving me a Firmware Error screen telling me to use Kies "Recovery Mode". I tried Kies Recovery but Kies3 wouldn't even recognize the P900. (I started freaking a little at this point!) Anyways, I decided to try and load TWRP because I thought I've got nothing to lose! I loaded TWRP into ODIN and it took, so I thought, because my P900 rebooted into an up and running normal state. (Big Sigh!) I tried booting into recovery but TWRP didn't take, it came up to stock recovery, trying to load TWRP just kicked the P900 out of the Firmware Error state it was in?? I decided to give Auto-Root another go after rebooting Win 7. Used ODIN 3.09 this time and everything went fine and I was rooted! Then I loaded TWRP and it loaded fine! I performed a TWRP backup at this point and things seem to be running smoothly. I still need to load the Debloat Variant, that's what's on my plate for today.

You are a much braver sole than I. Hope all goes smoothly.
I could be wrong but I would think that if one is going to a different ROM then rooting isn't necessary. Simply use Odin to flash TWRP but ensure that auto reboot is not enabled in Odin when you do it. If you allow the device to begin booting into stock system it's going to overwrite recovery again (with stock recovery) so what you want to do is flash TWRP, and once it's flashed FORCE a reboot directly into recovery again using the hardware keys on the device. At that point you can do an nandroid backup and then flash your ROM.

I'm not that brave treetop! I just know my way around a computer and I've rooted a few of these things. Plus I know the guys here on XDA are good at helping out if you hit a snag. Luckily I figured this one out on my own! You've just gotta do your research before jumping in and search read, search read, search read! I provided some links to get you started....get to it!

Thanks for the info muzzy, I'll remember that for next time! :good:
I did get the Debloat Variant up and running and loaded Xposed framework with sdcard full access. Everything seems to be running smoothly!
Ok So I finally got to it and successfully rooted (in first try, if I may add ). Thanks to xblue's guide/heroic efforts I avoided certain things and everything went smoothly. So Basically I installed samsung drivers using Kies, rebooted pc (Win 8.1). Downloaded cf autoroot and downloaded odin 3.09 as autoroot comes with 3.07. Replaced ONLY 3.07 odin exe with 3.09. Started Odin in Admin mode, put the tablet in download mode. Attched to pc and Odin recognized it. Then Gave it a final thought......lol. Pressed Start, device booted couple times. Then PASS appeared on the Odin window after like 30 secs. Installed root checker...successfully rooted. Installed TWRP via odin and flashed that successfully. Made a full back up and installed a ROM of my choice. I am a happy camper.
Sweet Deal singhsta! I'm glad my efforts were a help!
i would update to the latest version.. i tried using the original one that you have however i got the screen flicker issue so had to update.. the first update isnt very good wifi keeps dropping but the most recent version doesn't tho you may have a bug where every time you unlock the screen the tablet is still asleep even though the icons are visible so you have to lock the screen again and unlock. however if you factory reset this bug goes away.
i find the latest version is the most stable and battery life is better if you disable all the unnecessary apps that you can i usually get rid of most of the samsung back up apps and all the google ones bar the ones it needs to run play store etc and maintaining the ones that sync for back up.
wifi was really slow when i first got it and would drop very annoying but now it seems better but have experienced slow wifi i think it's a hardware issue all note pro's have in built that should have been sorted by the latest build. i hope they finally give it an update in the coming months even to 4.4.4. or something.

Help choosing ROM and Recovery

Hi everyone.
I rooted my Note Pro 12.2 (wifi) a while back and installed a basic rooted ROM, not CW12.
I honestly don't remember which ROM I flashed. I believe it was just a stock de-bloated ROM, and if it's the one I think it is, in the thread it says that ROM was faulty and dev has stopped for it. I see the kernel version and build in the "about" section under settings but I'm not sure if that number would tell me which ROM it is, or just the ROM and kernal that it was built on top of.
I basically wanted a stock style ROM with the ability to change things as I wanted. I'm still noticing a TON of lag. Scrolling on pages, loading apps, screen lag between touch and actual input of characters when using on screen keyboard, etc etc. I've frozen a bunch of bloatware and other things and it helped a little, but it's still pretty bad.
Audio latency with recording and MIDI apps is very bad, but I know that's improved with lollipop.
Aside from lag, it seems that GPS won't lock on no matter how long Iet it look for a signal (hard to tell if it's the ROM, but my Note 4 has found GPS very easily). Also, my Note 4 (unrooted and stock at this point) is waaaaay smoother and faster than this tablet. I realize we're talking about lollipop vs kitkat, and that the Note 4 version I have is the snapdragon one. But it still seems like performance should be better on this tablet.
So I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good ROM for me to flash until lollipop comes out for the wifi version of this tablet. I want the stock multi-window functions (4 at a time plus floating windows), so CW12 is not an option. I want to use some of the Samsung apps like s note and Hancom office. I use the s-pen from time to time with the pen apps like write-on-screen.
The "rooted" features I want to access are turning off the camera sound (adding the switch to the settings menu in the camera app, not just replacing the sound file with a dummy file) Changing PPI of apps (xposed module) and full access read/write on micro SD cards and really important is the ability to add any app to the multi-window apps list and force orientation. I've been able to do all this with xposed modules.
Other than that, stock would be fine if it wasn't so laggy. The main reason I want to try another ROM is the lag. On screen keyboard has a lot of lag, but even my Logitech k810 bluetooth keyboard is laggy.
I'm also currently travelling and don't have a PC with me. So I'm hoping I can flash the ROM without ODIN, or perhaps I can use one of the ODIN-for-android type things on my Note 4 to flash a ROM to the Note Pro 12.2. Also I have the stock recovey, and would like suggestions on which recovery to use instead. Again, no computer with me to flash a new recovery. Ido have an OTG cable and USB flash drive so Ican back up my files before flashing the new ROM, as well as a miscro SD card.
Any recommendations for a smooth, fast ROM? Any tips on flashing it without a PC? I know I can copy the ZIP to the tablet and flash it from recovery...but it is the stock recovery...is this going to be sufficient?
THANKS!
The hyperdrive rom by sbreen (in the dev section) works great. Isnt there an internet cafe in the vicinity? Ask them for assistance flashing the beast. I love twrp. Good luck!
I tried to find an easy root apk thingy so you dont need a computer, couldnt find anything (but maybe kinguser or something like it will work)
Link to twrp with explanation

Thanks! TWRP is I think what's on my Note II back home. My tablet is rooted already of course. For the Hyperdrive ROM, one thing I'm a little confused about is if I have to FIRST install a stock ROM and THEN flash the custom ROM. I'm a little confused about why exactly but I see that in the forums from time to time. It's recommended for certain ROMs. I don't know if flashing the stock ROM updates some other firmware/hardware driver type stuff that's needed for the new kernal to work or what.
There might be an internet cafe. I'm flying from Vienna to Lithuania today. Trying to explain to them that I want them to download and install ODIN might be tough knowing only English and Spanish haha.
Sorry for the noob question but is clicking the thumbs-up icon what generates "thanks" or do I do that somewhere else?

If its rooted you can install twrp without computer (see my link) use twrp manager fromthe play store for that
You only have to flash the custom rom
(Make sure you backup on an ext sd or something, then delete everything in twrp, install custom rom, restart and done) I also always backup the launcher settings, if you backup the apps with titanium restoring is very easy afterwards)
Lemme know if this works for you!

I'm already having trouble installing TWRP. I can't do it from the app, as my device isn't listed. I downloaded the zip file of the correct version of TWRP and tried to flash it using the stock recovery. But when I boot into recovery mode, it still just goes to the stock recovery. Then I downloaded and installed ROM manager from the play store and it shows TWRP as being installed, but whenever I boot into recovery I just get the stock recovery.
I'm back home now and I guess I'll just try to do all this with ODIN.
Is there any reason I can't just install the custom ROM using the stock recovery? That's what I did last time.
Ok So I got TWRP installed via ODIN then I used it to clean wipe and flash Hyperdrive ROM but gmail app won't even open, just crashes immediately, and it's one of the main apps I need so...probably gonna look for another ROM...or most likely gonna flash the stock ROM, unroot and sell the tablet and get a Dell Venue 11 Pro. Might wait till the end of July though, the supposed release date for lollipop on this device.
Had the same problem. Install hyperdrive without the gmail app option. Afterwards install itmvia the play store.
And if you want lollipop give cyanogen a try. I love it (but its a personal thing).
Ad make sure to read the Venue reviews, they are not very positive.

I wanted to try lollipop because I use it for music, and latency is much better with lollipop. My Note 4 is running lollipop and I get way better performance from MIDI keyboards and guitar amp modelling. I really like the multi window functions on the stock and hyperdrive ROMs though, 4 at once, floating, etc. I'm sure as soon as lollipop is officially out for this device, someone will release a rooted version.
Thanks for the tip on gmail, fortunately I read it before getting too deep and just reflashed without gmail it and then installed the gmail app as you suggested and it does work. There still seems to be a bit of delay when using the on screen keyboard, not as fast as I had hoped. But it's up and running.
I was considering the Dell after trying a bunch of different audio and video editing apps for android and realizing that I just need full photoshop, premiere, and Reaper with all my VST plugins, so I need windows. Perhaps Surface Pro is a better choice but I like the Venue's chassis better, fanless, rounded corners. Also new tablets might be coming out with Windows 10 so another reason to wait...
My laptop is great but it's really big and I like a touch interface for on screen mixers and instruments. So I figured a tablet PC might work best for me. But the problem is GUI scaling. with the Windows legacy apps like Premiere and Photoshop, the buttons and menus don't scale, and on an 11" 1080 display they are quite small.
Just wait for win 10 and while waiting fine tune your 12" beast did you try system tuner pro already? You should be able to get less latency from that.
(And did someone mention "buy a Mac" already?
I am surprised, because after testing dozen ROMs I found stock ROM fastest one. Just root and debloat it.
Not so any lag or problems, but with custom ROMS I had a lot of problems.

Indeed, cyanogen requires a lot of tuning (but its what I like about Android, I am more tinkering with it than actually using it I believe

I checked out system tuner pro (didn't buy it yet just read the description) What exactly would I adjust to get lower audio latency? Just clock the CPU higher? OR does it have audio-specific settings not mentioned in the description?

Looks like Samsung official lollipop (I read that it has way better latency) is finally coming to your tablet.

WHAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?!!? I've been checking sammobile EVERY day for the lost couple weeks waiting for this! OMG OMG I'm hoping I'll be able to use the Samsung Audio stuff with this, their DAW and amplitube and all that...plus I'll get Hancom office back...Thanks for the heads-up. I'm glad I've been using CM12.1 though So I can compare the experience.
Looking forward to the rooted version of stock lollipop making its way to xda as well! Now... to figure out the best way to back up my current installation...
