I'm an owner of a T-Mobile SG2 and im really getting fed up with Samsung caving into Apple's demands. Im considering switching to HTC, which i had a G2 before I went with Samsung.
Last month prior to the ICS update Samsung released a "maintenance update" on my sgs2 which the 1st thing i noticed was they taken away my scrolling wallpaper. They also did a few other adjustments, but Im a very visual kinda guy, which i didn't like the idea they took that away. I thought ill get it back on the official ICS update - WHICH IT DIDN'T!
I was thinking about upgrading to a newer phone. Either the HTC 1s or SGS3.
1) Do you guys have scrolling wallpaper?
2) Do you guys have global search?
3) Can you access this web page from your "stock" browser?
https://members.premiereinteractive...et=http://www.coasttocoastam.com/member/auth/
Finding out, the real reason why the Galaxy series phones don't have scrolling wallpaper is because of Apple which the iphones have scrolling wallpaper. Then they taken away global search is another nail in their coffin.
Anyone that can answer these questions, please respond.

Global search is where on the Google search widget, if you begin to start typing somebody's name, it will query your phone first (contacts) then the internet. If you begin to type the name of an app, it will show you results from your phone then the internet.
Please tell me you guys can still do this?

Samsung financially is in bed with Apple. They are in contract with them om making computer parts (screens, hardware etc.) about 4 million dollars per month. So when Apple started to complain, Samsung didn't want to loose their contract with Apple.
By your answers so far, HTC still has these core functions that Sammy has already taken away from their high end phones.

WTF are you talking about? Stock iPhones don't have scrolling wallpapers, there's a jailbreak tweak but no official features.
Go check in your settings or change for another launcher but don't blame Apple for everything...

I don't blame apple for everything, except for them pressuring companies like Samsung to take core services away like global search. i can blame apple for That! i may have been wrong with the scrolling wallpaper, but not for the other... thank you.

I'm in the One S forum, which the HTC brand android phones still have global search. This is awesome news, because Just this last week, Samsung has been rolling out an update to all their top-shelf phones (SGS3s) that strips away that global search mechanism that we're use to.
However, the HTC line has yet been untouched.
As far as the scrolling wallpaper, i couldn't figure out why for all of the sudden, just weeks prior to the ICS update, Samsung stripped all their phones (SGS2s & SGS3) using TouchWIZ (Samsung's very own launcher) the scrolling wallpaper.
Im looking forward to diving back into HTC and leaving Samsung behind.

Patent trolling is the new way to fight competitors nowadays, it's not just Apple, everyone does it. -_-
I hope that more will follow the way of the Judge Posner.

I had the sensation and upgraded to the one s but still like to flash roms with the sensation for fun and the sensation seems so laggy compared to the one s. The performance and battery life of the one s is amazing. I defiantly recommend getting the one s just be sure you get the s4 chip.

try AOKP Jelly Bean (the link is in my sig) i love this rom and it's as close to aosp jelly bean as i've seen so far (not including cm10 because it is not fully functional)
Are you from Europe or America? In Europe you'll probably get the S3 Version even if it's from T-Mobile.
I'm okey with this phone, I can't complain about anything except the missing update support for the S3 device (I have one and can't do anything about it) and the missing custom ROM support.
I got the phone yesterday evening and it came with the s4 chip (im in the u.s.).
Rooted it an hour later.
Im loving it compares to the sensation.
Only problem I have right now is the backlights on the buttons won't turn on sometimes I reseted ny phone before rooting it and that did the trick. But now its back at it

what rom are you running?
My contract is almost up and I've been looking at phones, both upcoming and current. I'm also on att now.
My current phone is the Samsung infuse and I've been using many ROMs on that device. I've been looking into the HTC one x+. It has amazing specs. Also the gnote 2 is incredible but it may be a lil too large for carrying around.
I've never had a HTC phone but I've heard the ui is a little bit different. Samsung has touchwiz, but that can easily be changed though flashing ROMs. Is HTC sense something that is a love hate type of deal? I'm sure the development support will be great to fix that.
Just wondering others input. Been researching.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
In addition, from what I've read, the x+ doesn't have an SD card slot but has a 64 gig model. I use quite a bit of storage, but I'm sure the large model will be quite spendy.

i thought this phone was a good deal and now i m deceived and
this coming month i m looking to get a sony xperia, samsung is a real s*** dont
even know why people continue to compare it to the greatest iphone.
every custom rom i tried worked well except the wifi(even the CM9) and seriously guys,,,,a smart
phone without wifi better have a nokia 3310. if i cant install ICS on this s***, so $*@*&%#
The trade in value is only $10 but if you pm me your contact info i will give you $15.

It sounds to me like you just didn't know what to do.
Most of us have ICS ROMs running pretty good with WiFi.
It's no shame not to know, just don't be a bad dancer blaming the floor for being slippery.
Follow Lumin30's signature to get to a clean KJ6 ROM and then you can either flash CM9/AOKP/HebMIUI and try again.
Nah....just let him go.....one less newb crying and or B!itching about it in this forum.
Lol and to cry about it in themes and apps section ta boot only proves my point.
Also Jeffsf gave him the the info he needed for wifi on ics based roms ...that was in his first of his only 3 posts to this or any forum for that matter.
This phone is actually great and with the devs we have and had that made the great roms we have make it that much better. Can't believe you would compare this device to an iphone. The sgs4g is only the 2nd version of sgs phones for t mobile and it still beats the iphone with out a doubt. If you had the money why not buy the sgs3, a newer up to date sgs phone?

What is the reason ? Why android has not such kind of amazing apps like IOS ??
Is anyone has the answer for this question?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Lemme guess, youre a former idevice user? Maybe we don't have these "wonderful" apps (which probably only you care about on android) is because there are multiple phones which are different which apps must work on, compared to the 3 that iPhone devs work on. Its also called the app developers chose only for it to be on iPhones or iPads, or iPods so don't blame us. Please, do not complain. Complain elsewhere. Not here.

I had an iPhone before my gs3. I do say the only reason battery life is different is because of the screens and hardware. and the apps are as I said, harder to develop.
