HTC ONE S Update - HTC One S

Hello!
I bought a phone in Netherlands, but I'm now in Russia. Will I be able to update the phone on regular basis from Russia, or will I have to go to service center for this?
I bought fully unlocked HTC ONE S.
Thank you

You should be able to receive OTA updates no matter where in the world you are. Providing that you are with the same carrier that releases the update..
If not, Updates will be leaked and posted on here so you could always do it that way.

I do not quite understand about the same courier. My phone was unlocked and bought from ordinary shop with no carrier. Please explain.

well if your phone came unbranded you should have a CID number of HTC__001 << this means unbranded HTC
Phones purchased through a monthly contract are usually Branded, for example my CID number is VODAP001 << Which means any updates I receive will be sent via Vodafone..
Usually Unbranded devices are the first to receive updates, so you should be fine. It wont matter which carrier you use as in your case it will be HTC sending out the update

Thank you for your answer. Final question - how can I find this number? CID number I mean...
Thank you again.

I already found. HTC-001. So, I should be fine.
Thank you

Just a quick note: you won't be able to get the update if you have altered the phone in any way, e.g. root, custom recovery, etc. You'll have to get back to stock to install the updates.
Actually, since your phone is HTC stock I'm quite suprised your phone has not prompted you for the update yet... Maybe you should check manually.

I have already installed 1.78 while in Holland. No updates yet... I was thinking to root my HTC and put some custom Rom, as they say it gives better performance and better battery life... But since I cannot update, I do not know now... But anyway, custom roms are often updated fast, so I guess it won't be a problem.
Love my HTC very much, gets a bit warm from time to time... But still better then xperia arc.
Thank you

have orange UK rolled out the 1.78.401.1 OTA yet?

WOW, great news this update. Hope it comes soon from orange as well....
Any idea of what fixes or changes does the update include?.
Best regards.

Hello, nobody can tell me the problems the update fixes?, does it fix the sense reload problem?, and the multitasking?.
Another question, does the update delete anything in the phone?, I know that is recomended to do a backup of everything, but I want to know if in this case it only would be just in case, or it is necessary cause the update deletes something?.
Best regards.

[Q] Should I send my Sensation to HTC?

Hello. Yesterday I unrooted and s-on my sensation, because I have som dust in the screen. For it, I used germany's Vodafone RUU, due there isn't a RUU for Vodafone Spain (my country).
Some people from Spain told me that using that RUU from Germany was ok, but something confuses me: when I try to search for OTA's I get this message:
We have determined that your phone may be running a modified version of its system software. For your protection, we cannot update your phone. Please revert your phone to the official HTC system software to update your phone. If you did not modify the system software or would like help reverting your system, please contact us via the support section at www.htc.com
So, I want to know if HTC will see this, or if they'll refuse to change my screen. I'd also like to know experience of others whose country hasn't got a leaked Vodafone RUU, and your experience.
Thank you all
Anyone?

so when you decided to leave stock rom and go custom.... didnt you make a nandroid backup like ALL the threads insist ? If you did you could restore it.
Or brick the device completely and say that a dodgy OTA upgrade caused it (no recommended)
EDIT: Wont a European RUU be good enough ? or a stock Spain RUU, It doesnt have to be carrier branded to re-validate warranty...Just stock

First of all, thanks for your answer. I didn't make a nandroid because the phone was bought already rooted from internet. I don't think so about the stock debranded ruu because they have the info that my phone was Vodafone branded and if they see a stock Rom they'll see I've manipulated the software.

They won't see out mate add go for eu ruu as Spain would come under that more than the German one and as for it not been on voda you have had it unlocked and debranded they.won't have a clue I have done it once my self even left s off they won't relise

Has anyone in UK receive official OTA

Im on Orange and still no sign of official update.
Nope, I'm on debranded stock ROM

This is just getting a tad ridiculous. Networks are releasing there ICS bloatware updates before the unbranded phones get it. I guess HTC said they'll release it at the end of March so they have 2 days left, the clocks ticking HTC

Nope, totally stock Sensation, but tbh i can wait as my phone works fine on 2.3.4 Gingerbread,
Vodafone UK getting it right now
yes, Vodafone UK members with the HTC Sensation are getting the update as we speak. Just started rolling out about 30min ago.
Sucks taking ages for HTC to get on with it. I assume stock ppl are on cid HTC__001 and the Vodafone update is via their own cid? How else does the update differentiate between phones?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
Yep, Vodafone users are getting the Vodafone build number (x.xx.161.x)
Hello,
Do people with SuperCID and stock unbranded Europe ROM get the ICS updates yet?

Hi Eddie I assume I should get the stock ota when its available using the ROM 1.50.401.1 and cid HTC__001. I am guessing no one had seen what the new firmware version for that will be yet?
Sent using tapatalk. HTC Sensation. debranded from three to f/w 1.50.401.1 stock build.
I'm guessing we should get ours in the next couple of days going by the nember of new threads starting where countries are getting the ICS update, Italy, Spain, Belgium.
Just checked again and nothing for UK unbranded
Can't believe everywhere in eu had got the ota except in UK unless you have a vodofone ROM. How annoying.

I know, gone are the days of apparant benefits of buying unbranded as opposed to directly from a network.....
Vodafone UK had the handset before it's SIM-free release and have had every OTA before the unbranded handsets too so the trend has continued it would seem
I just flashed the OTA file manually, a lot easier
even Greece & Switzerland has the update now, you know its a bad situation when a near-bankrupt country can have the update before the UK

Same for three they had it out early, but they are really sloow at releasing firmware because they like to customise such as disabling 2g overide but have small resources to do the customization.

Does look like we will be one of the last to get it sadly.
Might be the first to get a spelling-mistake-free one though!!
Ha true I am happy to wait aslong as they sort of most of the problems faced with the earlier releases. If not we can always play about in the Develop options!

I understand you refer to Greece with the near-bankrupt country and your surprise that they have it earlier than the UK, but Switzerland is actually rather advanced and quick in getting updates and devices.

[Q] still no ICS upate:(

My wife's sensation has been slugglish lately and keeps restarting all the time. I'm assuming because it hasn't been updated since it was new. It was on vodafone but was unlocked a week after and has since had an o2 sim in it. Problem is there has been no software updates since she got it nearly a year ago. Who would the ICS update be coming from? vodafone or o2? I've only tried the OTA update, is there any other way?
Sorry for the noob question, haven't had a droid in a while!
Has it an Custom Rom?
Which CID?
The update would be came from Vodafone
Just a heads up, oftentimes people find that the OTA ICS update slows their phone down to slower than what it was previously, and it's only fixable by wiping data and factory resetting (that is if you want to stay on stock).
You could always track down a RUU and install it that way.
hey there, no its not a custom rom its been on there from new. I don't know what a CID is or an RUU sorry!
Have you considered rooting the device and installing ics that way? Just a suggestion?

[Q] European RUU

Regarding the European RUU, I have a completely stock branded to vodafone desire S with the 2.3.5 OTA. Will I have to take any measures besides backing up my stuff to install the RUU?
Normally i wouldn't ask this, but the phone being limited to vodafone only sim cards makes me wonder if the RUU will affect any of it or if i have to do extra steps that I wouldn't with an unbranded phone.
Thanks,
Daniel
I think no one really knows yet. RUU is still too fresh. My guess, yes you can just install this on your branded Desire S. Your SIM lock will stay (this is never affected by a ROM). If you now have a Vodafone boot logo, you might lose that. Any apps put on there by Vodafone, you'll also lose, of course.
Actually that would work great for me, tired of the preinstalled crap As for not losing the sim lock, doesn't bothed me so much.
Kinda just want to update without issues, wondered how it would fit this specific situation.
Thanks for the reply m8
Update:
Installed the RUU without issues, phone seems to be working fine so far.. actually have more free memory than before (both without apps installed, did a reset before installing the RUU)
Wifi and 3G are working, phone is smooth but to be fair.. only installing apps atm.. glad to have the update

Did you use anything else except the ics RUU from htcdev? I also have a stock branded TIM Italy Desire S last time updated also via OTA to android 2.3.5 and I want to upgrade to ICS. Sorry for posting in your thread, but I didn't find anything in the forums to answer my question.

I have a tim desire S if you want update it you must debrand you desire S but you can lose your original tim Rom and probably your lost the garantie..

I don't care about the guarantee because I don't use the phone in Italy from where it was bought. Debranding is also a good thing for me. Just want to know if it worked just with the RUU for hin or he needed extra stuff.

no need to unbrand. This RUU is WWE and can be used with all Desire S. Just run RUU if your phone is s-on.
Or you can follow my instruction if you want to use goldcard to update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866204
i have a t-mobile brand desire S. After install the RUU the brand is going away.
ICS i running well to me. no issues.

Did the update with the RUU. Everithing worked fine, the phone is now unbranded. Still has somebugs. On the homescreen some app shortcuts refuse to open on touch sometimes and apps crash when you click links inside them. Hope there will be at least a minor update to sove the bugs ..

OTA Jellybean Update and Rooting

Hey Guys
Here is my question, currently I have a completely stock unrooted One S and I just got the notification for a 'system update' from HTC. What I want to know is, if I accept the system update for HTC's official jellybean, will I be able to root afterword?
Add'l info:
Hopefully the answer is a simple 'yes', but I want to ask because I remember when I had the HTC Evo, HTC changed the bootloader when they sent out gingerbread OTA update, and anyone who was unrooted and accepted the update then couldnt root until someone found a new way around the changes, which took a while. And the reason I want to root after the update is because I dont plan on playing with ROMs this time around, I just want to root so I can use some apps that require root access and still be on a stable jellybean. Thanks!

Yes its possible.

Can you post the exact steps you made for going completely stock because i have tried several times and still don't get OTA update notification. (HTC support center stated the update for my s3 was released). Thanks.
AW: OTA Jellybean Update and Rooting
Update notification depends on cid and carrier. The HTC support are a bunch of uninformed people who always answers with standard answers..
Maybe try to change your CID to HTC__001, its the unbranded European one, this CID mostly get the OTA first.
Dont forget to be on stock recovery when flashing OTA
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
I think i can't change CID on S3. I guess i'll wait a little more.
