Regarding the European RUU, I have a completely stock branded to vodafone desire S with the 2.3.5 OTA. Will I have to take any measures besides backing up my stuff to install the RUU?
Normally i wouldn't ask this, but the phone being limited to vodafone only sim cards makes me wonder if the RUU will affect any of it or if i have to do extra steps that I wouldn't with an unbranded phone.
Thanks,
Daniel
I think no one really knows yet. RUU is still too fresh. My guess, yes you can just install this on your branded Desire S. Your SIM lock will stay (this is never affected by a ROM). If you now have a Vodafone boot logo, you might lose that. Any apps put on there by Vodafone, you'll also lose, of course.
Actually that would work great for me, tired of the preinstalled crap As for not losing the sim lock, doesn't bothed me so much.
Kinda just want to update without issues, wondered how it would fit this specific situation.
Thanks for the reply m8
Update:
Installed the RUU without issues, phone seems to be working fine so far.. actually have more free memory than before (both without apps installed, did a reset before installing the RUU)
Wifi and 3G are working, phone is smooth but to be fair.. only installing apps atm.. glad to have the update

Did you use anything else except the ics RUU from htcdev? I also have a stock branded TIM Italy Desire S last time updated also via OTA to android 2.3.5 and I want to upgrade to ICS. Sorry for posting in your thread, but I didn't find anything in the forums to answer my question.

I have a tim desire S if you want update it you must debrand you desire S but you can lose your original tim Rom and probably your lost the garantie..

I don't care about the guarantee because I don't use the phone in Italy from where it was bought. Debranding is also a good thing for me. Just want to know if it worked just with the RUU for hin or he needed extra stuff.

no need to unbrand. This RUU is WWE and can be used with all Desire S. Just run RUU if your phone is s-on.
Or you can follow my instruction if you want to use goldcard to update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866204

Did the update with the RUU. Everithing worked fine, the phone is now unbranded. Still has somebugs. On the homescreen some app shortcuts refuse to open on touch sometimes and apps crash when you click links inside them. Hope there will be at least a minor update to sove the bugs ..

Hi,
Phone is being exchanged due to dust problem. I had unfortunatley s-offed before problem arose. Still stock ROM though.
There doesn't seem to be a tmobile UK ruu about so i can't follow the guides that are around.
Any ideas?
I really need to sort ASAP as courier is collecting first thing.
Thanks in advance

This doesn't help answer your question (as there's no s-on method yet), but I can't help but wonder why you would request an exchange when your device was S-OFFed and you had no clue if it was even possible to revert that?
kinda in the same boat myself
I'm pretty sure your good with ship s-off and stock ROM.
Some people got s-off devices, how would they know if it came like that?
I would flash the RUU for your phone just in case.

I didn't have any t-mobile branding on my TMobile UK phone.
I'm not familiar with super CID coming from the Mytouch4G, how many of you did it when you rooted? I'm rooting my Sensation 4G as I type this.

well if you don't want to install ics custom rom you don't have to but if you want you have anyway there are ics fw that can be installed without supercid but imo it is better to supercid
edit: and if you supercid you can revert it back....however if you have rooted the phone you can't receive OTA, or better you can but it will brick your phone

yes man before getting the ota you MUST flash the stock htc RUU which you can find in the development forum
Almost everyone does SuperCID after rooting.
After Rooting, I didn't though. I just S-Offed. A week later, I realized I had to SuperCID to get some ROMs to work. So I did it and never regretted.
Go for it.

I really don't understand why you'd want to change the CID or how it affects ROMS
You don't have to supercid, but it might be handy at some point. It will allow you to flash any ruu shall you ever need it.

if your not branded,
you will almost never have to supercid for a custom rom to install.
but for example if a firmware update is mandatory, you might depending on your cid/mid.
i own a xe device and never supercid it, can install anything without problems. (dont always) believe what people say, but always check the description on the base of your own cid/mid yourself.
that said,it cant hurt to supercid, but if its not mandatory why?
+1 Me too
+1 I've supercid as well, changed a few times back to orginal CID because of warranty without problem.
Hello. Yesterday I unrooted and s-on my sensation, because I have som dust in the screen. For it, I used germany's Vodafone RUU, due there isn't a RUU for Vodafone Spain (my country).
Some people from Spain told me that using that RUU from Germany was ok, but something confuses me: when I try to search for OTA's I get this message:
We have determined that your phone may be running a modified version of its system software. For your protection, we cannot update your phone. Please revert your phone to the official HTC system software to update your phone. If you did not modify the system software or would like help reverting your system, please contact us via the support section at www.htc.com
So, I want to know if HTC will see this, or if they'll refuse to change my screen. I'd also like to know experience of others whose country hasn't got a leaked Vodafone RUU, and your experience.
Thank you all
Anyone?

so when you decided to leave stock rom and go custom.... didnt you make a nandroid backup like ALL the threads insist ? If you did you could restore it.
Or brick the device completely and say that a dodgy OTA upgrade caused it (no recommended)
EDIT: Wont a European RUU be good enough ? or a stock Spain RUU, It doesnt have to be carrier branded to re-validate warranty...Just stock

First of all, thanks for your answer. I didn't make a nandroid because the phone was bought already rooted from internet. I don't think so about the stock debranded ruu because they have the info that my phone was Vodafone branded and if they see a stock Rom they'll see I've manipulated the software.

Hello everyone.
I am trying to find a Z520e for a long time but unfortunately all the providers in my country only have the z560e.
I finally found in the market a z520e which is from T-Mobile DE of I am not wrong.
My question is that since the phone is Tmob branded, does this mean that I might have any issues? In my HTC desire I remember that branded phones had to have goldcards etc when flashing. Does this occur to the One S as well or can I flash let's say the viper S Rom without any issues to be concerned?
Am I gonna be able to change the Tmob Rom with the current official HTC WWE update?
Best regards,
T.

Ok, but can you flash the WWE Rom without root or only the tmob version?
I will root for sure, but I want to be sure that in case of warranty I will be able to find the stock ROM.
Also, do you know if Tmob z520e have the new housing that is not prone to chipping? Is there any picture to see the actual differences?

You'll need to root first and then change CID in order to be able to flash any other RUU than the official TMO one. EVenif you lock the bootloader again, it'll show 'tampered'.

So if the serial number is bigger than SH/HT24 or 25 it will be the revised version?? Which one did you have from Tmob DE??
Also, do you run custom ROM like Viper S? how much space do you have left after clean install?
I'm new to this site, just registered. Sorry i'm a noob!! So I have had the Blue Tmobile One S since august but sold that one to my friend and bought a black one from a guy and said it's from solavei, So I try it and everything seems legit except It's running Android 4.0.3 and Sense 4.0. So I go to menu>Software updates>check now to see if I can get the OTA they had in September but it says I am currently up to date. I checked my sotfware information and it said my software number was 1.84.1135.17 71ORD. I look online to see if I can some how download it and it told me that if I don't have these two other numbers and had something else then the warranty is void and I can't get updates. So My big question is how can I change my software number? Do I have to like root my phone? Then some how unroot it back to a different stock ROM? I'm open to suggestions and I would really like an answer thanks!!

If you're on 1.84 I would not update via OTA. You probably have a 1.06 or .09 hboot, which will be extremely nice for you.
I would suggest unlocking your bootloader via HTC and installing TrickDroid if you want stock. There arr several guides, including a all in one tool to help you with the process.

You can try typing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* into the dialer and then checking for updates.
Or you can find a T-Mobile US 2.35 RUU and running that. However it will be more difficult to flash ROMs once you have upgraded if you want to do that later on.

I'm not really looking to root my phone, all I really want to do is have my phone run on the latest software and get OTA updates if possible. But if I need to root it, I will. And for the second thing, I'd have to root my phone to run the 2.35 right?

After "checkin succeeded" you should then check for updates in Settings, as I mentioned earlier.
You seem to be running an "ORD" build which is basically like a Beta test for the latest software. RD stands for Research & Development. The latest 2.35 RUU should work without rooting.
However that will upgrade your HBOOT and make it more difficult if you decide to root later on.
