I have the phone system setting set to vibrate on incoming texts but its not working with any market sms app i try to use. I've tried go sms and pansi but neither will vibrate when i get a text even when both the system and app setting are set to always vibrate on invoking sms. I did root my phone but i don't think that has anything to do with it
I'd check your settings in sound, and sound/vibration intensity.
There are two you will want to look for:
You can find widgets to toggle through them, but I would be willing to bet that in one of the two sections you have your vibrate for notifications to be turned down, or turned off.

Hi..stupid question but i cannot seem to get my phone to vibrate whenever I receive a text or notification..can someone tell me where i can go to set this?
I tried going into settings, sound and display but i do not have vibrate as a selection in the notification ringtone tab.
Is there an app i can download that allows me to customize my sounds?
thanks!
the settings for notifications are within each messaging application. if you go to your sms application, hit the options button and go into settings. at the bottom you will find the notification settings, including vibrate and a ringtone selection. notifications for each of your messaging apps are configured this way.

Nothing you can do about that in android. Thats the default android vibrate for notifications. I think it sucks too, its way too short and too soft of a vibration.
What you can do is install SMS Popup. Go into settings on that app and enable notifications on it. It has more options for SMS notifications, like you can set a really long vibration. Just remember to then go into the Android messaging app and turn off notifications there, otherwise you'll get double notifications. This will only help fix the problem for SMS messages. I think android still sucks on incoming notifications for other items like emails, etc.
I REALLY like SMS Popup, its great.
whats the best custom setting. i am trying to set it so it virbates alot and i can feel it
Maybe I'm just missing a setting here, but I can't seem to find where I can set the phone to vibrate and play a tone for an email or SMS text. The tone works, just no vibration. I'm coming from a N1 and had the 'vibrate' set to always. Anyone else notice this?

Thanks - I forgot about those settings. What about it vibrating for Gmail messages?
i tried taking screenshots for you but i'm having issues.
if you go into the settings of each of those applications, you can set it there. in email, gmail, and messaging there is a section in the settings called notification where you can set a unique tone and also enable vibrate.
*EDIT- tonyizhurr beat me to it

I don't remember having to change these settings on my N1, they must have been activated by default. But I digress - thank you for the help!

Thanks. This was driving me crazy. On the G2 you could find the discreet settings for different items listed together in notifications. Now I can assign different sounds.
So I have my phone on silent the majority of the time. Now recently for some reason my phone stopped vibrating for texts and any other notifications completely. I can't even get the timer in the inbuilt clock app to vibrate.
The motor or whatever vibrates the phone is working because my phone vibrates when I go to adjust the vibration settings. But it doesn't vibrate for notifications.
For text messages idk what rom your on but go to settings in messaging and find the vibration settings

Ya may need to go into the messaging and email app settings and change the vibration settings there.
Next time you may want to post this in q&a section as well. I can hear the trolls coming out from under the bridge already. Just a heads up
Edit: I may want to realize which thread I'm in! Lol. Sorry, but the settings piece still applies.

I'm on CM9 and my notifications were not vibrating either. I went into system>sound>silent mode then chose vibrate. I also went into the settings of text messages under vibrate and chose "only on silent". See if any of that helps.

I dont have any vibration settings in the default text message app. Samsung's clock timer isn't vibrating on silent like it used to, I messed around with the sound settings as well and nothing changed.
I had this problem yesterday. I wasn't getting any notification for text messages. I would see them only when I turned the phone on and looked at the screen. Turns out I was playing around with the CM9 profiles settings, and had it in night time profile, which by default sets the vibration and volume to 0. You can either change the settings of that profile, or just set it back to default profile.
Having said that, it is kind of handy being able to disable notifications during certain hours...
Need a little help. Most notifications will turn the screen on when they come in, like when we receive a text message or phone call. We'll, I have an app that I use for business that gets real-time notifications and even has a setting in the app to choose system tones for audible alerts, but the app doesn't turn on the screen when I get notifications from it. I need it to. Does anyone know if this can be changed? I can't seem to find a setting for it anywhere in system settings, and it's definitely not in the app settings.

how can we turn off vibration completely ?
It's extremely annoying to me, why there are no any options to disable it.
The only place where I want to have it only phone calls and messages.
I'd also like to know this.
Especially when double tapping to use face unlock it vibrates.
It does not vibrate when we use power button to start face-unlock.

those settings are not enough and do not turn off vibrations,
for example when I wake up the screen.

The only thing you could do, is to enable energy saving mode
I also want to untie the vibration to wake up the mobile .. it is very annoying.
Plus one here, I also find it stupid to not be able to completely disable vibration.
For SMS I suppose I can use a different SMS app like Textra, but for double tap and call begin I haven't found a solution.

For call begin
Go to contact app.

What I wish would happen is if the alert slider is set to "silent" then vibration will be turned off. But if the alert slider is set to "vibrate" or "ring" the vibration will be turned back on.
Any idea on how to do this on a rooted OP6?
