Hi..stupid question but i cannot seem to get my phone to vibrate whenever I receive a text or notification..can someone tell me where i can go to set this?
I tried going into settings, sound and display but i do not have vibrate as a selection in the notification ringtone tab.
Is there an app i can download that allows me to customize my sounds?
thanks!
the settings for notifications are within each messaging application. if you go to your sms application, hit the options button and go into settings. at the bottom you will find the notification settings, including vibrate and a ringtone selection. notifications for each of your messaging apps are configured this way.

Nothing you can do about that in android. Thats the default android vibrate for notifications. I think it sucks too, its way too short and too soft of a vibration.
What you can do is install SMS Popup. Go into settings on that app and enable notifications on it. It has more options for SMS notifications, like you can set a really long vibration. Just remember to then go into the Android messaging app and turn off notifications there, otherwise you'll get double notifications. This will only help fix the problem for SMS messages. I think android still sucks on incoming notifications for other items like emails, etc.
I REALLY like SMS Popup, its great.
whats the best custom setting. i am trying to set it so it virbates alot and i can feel it

Does anyone know how to turn these off? I remember reading the advice on how to do this, and now I can't find it.
I get the audio notification, but then, I have to go and drag down on the toolbar to show notifications and then tap the one for the latest sms, even if I've already answered it.
I'd like to know how to NOT have toolbar (taskbar?) notifications trigger with every sms.
I think going into the app, menu, settings, notification settings, and checking "privacy mode" will get you what you want...
Stock Inspire
Using stock e-mail program
If I have unread e-mail messages, the phone will beep with the sound notification every time it checks for mail, until I open the e-mail app. Even if I have not received any new mail, it will beep when it checks for mail until I open the program.
So if I receive a message at 1pm, and it it set to check for mail every 10 minutes, I will receive a sound notification at 1:10, 1:20, 1:30, etc. until I actually open the e-mail app.
Is this normal? Is there a setting I can chage where it will only beep once upon receipt of a new message? I looked thru the settings and couldn't find anything.
Thanks.

Anyone else experiencing this?
This is happening for me too on Gmail.
It is also happening with my txt message. In addition to that, when it plays my txt msg notification, at the very same time it plays my default sound (so it is playing two sounds at the same time).
Are there setting for these that I haven't seen yet?
Thanks.

Do you have a third party messaging program like Handcent or Chomp installed?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
How do you turn off specific notifications?
I just received my Inspire today and I'm having similar issues.
I've used Windows Mobile and iPhone for years. This is my first Android phone.
Everything is right out of the box with the stock ROM and no additional apps loaded. The only thing I did was setup my Exchange email accounts.
With Windows Mobile and the iPhone I was able to turn off notifications for new emails, but leave it on for text messages and calendar reminders. I receive a large number of emails and I need to have the email notification sound and vibration turned off.
So far I have found where to set your notification sound and where to turn off all notification sounds. I have not figured out how to turn offf just the email notification sound.
Each program has its own notification settings.
Go to mail -> menu - > more - > settings -> notification settings and there you are.
In gmail - menu -> more -> settings -> scroll down to email notifications
Messages - menu -> settings -> received notification

Thanks for the quick response.
An an Android newbie, I was looking for it in the main settings app, not in the mail program itself. I was able to turn off the email notifications and keep the other notifications on.

That is one of the big difference in iOS and Android. In Android you use the menu button within the app you are using to set the specific settings for that app. In iOS you go to the settings area to change setting for all of the apps. It took me a while to get used to when I made the switch last year. I got used to it and now it just makes sense to change settings within the program, not have to leave the program and do it somewhere else.
Ive been trying to figure out how to set custom ringtones for txts for individual contacts but havent gotten anything. Can anyone help?
Use handcent sms from the Market. Turn off notifications in your stock messaging app once you've installed it to avoid double notifications. In the thread for the person whose notification tone you want to change, tap the button in the top right (the person with a gear) and choose notification settings, then notification sound.
There's no way to do it through the AOSP contacts or sms app.
thank you but thats for android. I forgot to mention I use the touch pro 2. I appreciate the help tho.
Maybe I'm just missing a setting here, but I can't seem to find where I can set the phone to vibrate and play a tone for an email or SMS text. The tone works, just no vibration. I'm coming from a N1 and had the 'vibrate' set to always. Anyone else notice this?

Thanks - I forgot about those settings. What about it vibrating for Gmail messages?
i tried taking screenshots for you but i'm having issues.
if you go into the settings of each of those applications, you can set it there. in email, gmail, and messaging there is a section in the settings called notification where you can set a unique tone and also enable vibrate.
*EDIT- tonyizhurr beat me to it

I don't remember having to change these settings on my N1, they must have been activated by default. But I digress - thank you for the help!

Thanks. This was driving me crazy. On the G2 you could find the discreet settings for different items listed together in notifications. Now I can assign different sounds.
After I install custom roms i notice that my phonr no longer vibrates for incoming calls and texts.
the vibrate works for notifications and such but just calls and texts it wont work.
Ive enabled it in the settings but still no luck
is it just me or do other people get this as well?
this happened to my Raider/vivid as well but no one ever responded to my question..
thanks

Make sure it's set to vibrate in each individual app and not just the general settings. I've had certain apps do this before but it was because vibrate was turned off in the settings for the app.

Just go into which ever app you aren't getting the notification results you are looking for. Go into the settings for that app. Most apps will have their own settings for notifications in there. You can select custom sounds that will be specific for that app, as well as the option for vibration for received notifications.
