Hi,
I have been looking all over online and cant seem to find the same occurrence as myself. I have a xoom from verizon wireless that I had sent in to get the 4g upgrade. During this time the xoom has had no problems with using the internal gps as far as I can tell. I decided to deactivate the data plan and make it a wifi only tablet. On top of that I went ahead and rooted the tablet and put on cm9.
After the install I tried to add the beautiful widgets app and put the clock and weather widget on the home screen, but I can not seem to get my location for the weather part.
so that sparked the search to see what I need to do to get the gps working on the xoom. the only thing that seems to work at all is google maps. So I would assume that the gps device inside of the xoom works fine, but all other apps that require gps can not seem to find any location what so ever.
Is it that since this used to be a 4g tablet that perhaps since it cant find the network signal, it cant get a proper lock on my location? I've made sure that the gps is on and all settings are set so that any app should be able to find my location, I'm just not sure what else there is to do. If anyone has had a similar experience please let me know. Any solution would be great.

Ok, maybe you guys can help here. I have quite a bit of experience with Windows Mobile phones (had an 8525, upgraded to a custom ROM, unlocked SIM/CID, etc), so that's what level of experience you're working with.
Now, I just picked up the Fuze, very cool phone! However, I'm wondering the following about GPS:
1. Is it available in this phone (i.e. AT&T didn't disable it).
2. I want to do GPS. I don't have a data plan. I DO have wi-fi. I DON'T want to be charged money. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance! The questions were probably asked elsewhere, but I looked around a bit and everything else looked way above these questions, which hopefully are pretty simple to answer...
i have the same question...
I know the Fuze has GPS, and i followed the steps on THIS link, but it doesnt seem to work, the GPS Test, never seems to finish looking for satelites, and when i go to Google Maps, it keeps "seeking GPS satelites"
GPS is available on the Fuze and it's independent of any data plan. All you need is some program that can access the GPS.
However, getting the GPS to work seems to be flakey at best. I tested mine briefly but wasn't able to get a signal lock. Need to do some more testing.
The GPS on my Fuze works great. First you should run Quick GPS and it will use the wifi to download the current GPS satellite locations. Then you should use google maps, you have to goto google maps menu and say 'use gps' then just go stand outside somewhere where theres no much tree coverage and wait for awhile (for the first time, now that I've done it once the GPS starts working in 10 seconds or so) Then you will start to pick up the gps satellites. I'm not sure how great it will be without a data plan... it uses the data plan to download the map info. Hopefully your wifi works out side.

What about using something like Garmin or TomTom's software? Would that work without a data plan, and without the need for wi-fi?
I use Garmin without a data plan and it works great. I installed it first thing after I got my GPS and didn't do anything to get it to work. The GPS on my FUZE worked out of the box like it should.
I have recently been having a problem with the Google home page
showing my location. It now will just say "Acquiring Location"
I am running Fresh 1.1 on a Sprint CDMA Hero. Sprint Nav and Google Maps
work fine, Latitude works as well. GPS works fine. But you shouldnt need GPS to use the My Location feature in Google, before it was finding the phone fine based off the network. Any ideas what is up and why i am having
this issue?
Same with me too.
This is happening to me also. Started Friday, well I noticed it then. Oddly enough it still works on the Buzz mobile site. After a quick google, it seems this is affecting Droid owners also. This made me feel a little better :/ Two people in the thread happen to be from Massachusetts like myself. I reflashed, I wiped and same thing 'acquiring location' I think it might be Google's end because it still works for some.
A little update. http://powerdeck.sprint.com Weather section still finds my location.
Hey all,
I'm using a rooted TB running BAMF 1.3.2, and my GPS location is anywhere from 5 blocks off to like half a mile off, usually. This is the case whether I'm using Google Location Services, Verizon GPS Services, or Standalone GPS.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Try the new radio and latest Rom version. Or use the app gps status to reset your gps.
You could also try this:

GPS way offArrow
My GPS jumps around based on what ROM I have installed. Right now I am using the Twisted Sense 1.51 and it's perfect.
The app called gps status, go outside and run it for a bit. Look at how many satilites you hook up to. Clear the caches in google maps and it should lock in your position.

GPS doesn't work...
Yeah.... so... GPS was working fine the other day. Location would jump around on the weather widget, but would work just fine using Google Maps or Glympse.... Now I get nothing. No satellites, and it's like it's not even looking. GPS Status, GPS Essentials and a couple others, and nothing at all. If i turn off verizon location and google location, all the apps act like i don't have any location service at all...
Still using stock rom, all I did was root, and GPS was working fine until yesterday.
Any ideas?
Edit: noob mistake. Shelled out the 4 bucks for root explorer, modified gps.config (mounted as ro with the free aps), rebooted and works just fine. Also bought the xda app cuz you guys have helped me with my tmo dash, vz touch pro, and vz imagio. Happy flashing everyone!
Hey again,
So, still no luck with the GPS. Upgraded to BAFM 1.6.3. Upgraded radio to 1.13.605.7 (1.16.00.0402w_1 CMDA) -- first one in The Obligatory Thunderbolt Radio Thread.
Still: my position is like 10 blocks off, and if I don't have Google Location Service turned on, it doesn't find my position at all, just as always.
Is there ANY help for my poor GPS?
mine was acting crazy also but with a diff rom. i got the new CDMA and old LTE and that fixed my problem. it would say i was 10miles away from my house or were ever i was
@skeet43169,
Do you have the version numbers for those?
I just got my brand NEW Asus TF 16GB from Amazon. I did the update first.
Then I noticed that it displays the wrong location in the weather widget.
I have GPS, Wifi and Google location tracking enabled.
Anyone else got the wrong location with this Tablet? Any way to get it work properly? I have not tried a different location either.
oh and google map app shows the correct location so I guess it knows where it is. Strange...
I know I can set it manually but I would like to know if it can be fixed to work in auto mode.
Any how this is a great site full of TF information.
Thanks in advance...
VeeKay
yeah, I hope there is a fix for this.
Mine also pinpoints me fine on the map.
But, weather widget says i'm in a small community, two cities away.
And a search to enter location manually, finds my city no problem.
Of course I prefer to leave it on AUTO.
Tap the weather widget and you can set your location manually, or force it to refresh.
I manually set mine to my location, then turned it back to automatic and it's been fine since.
Thanks for the tip
I tried that but unfortunately it didn't work. It goes back to the wrong location
I all of a sudden started having this issue. When i'm at home it says that i'm in a city that's more than 40 miles away which I've never even traveled near with my TF.
I've tried deleting the widget, checking google maps, and still it puts me in the wrong location.
This started happening less than a week ago.
Mine has said "Asahi ku" since I got it... I have no idea where that is.
Does anyone have an alternate GPS program installed like Locus?
I uninstalled that and it looks to be working fine now.

Ok I spoke prematurely.
If I go into Google maps, it places me in the right location but for some reason, starts out in the location 40 miles away.
The Asus widget seems to be broken.
I read a while back that there was something that can help your phone lock on to GPS faster. Recently I have been having issues locking on to GPS without restarting my phone. When I restart it, it picks up GPS right away. But if the phone has been running for a few days it always says "searching for GPS" in Maps. Is there something I can flash to make it lock on quicker? So I dont have to restart my phone when I want to use GPS or Maps/Navigation? It has always done this on whatever ROM I flash.
I don't know if it will help with your situation or not but I use an app called GPS Test. Tons of useful info and such. Also allows updating of agps data. My GPS seems to lock quickly

Good luck

GPS test didnt do anything. I thought there was something that was posted that you could flash that would make it lock on faster? But I cant find it now. I always have to restart my phone to get driving directions in Navigation. But the thread did have to do with a-gps. i just cant find it...

There's a patch for HTC devices that uses an alternate data source for AGPS data. It *might* work on this phone-- I don't know why it wouldn't. Perhaps that's what you read.
Also, the updated Play store fixed an AGPS lock issue with HTC devices. Again, it appears this is only an HTC fix, but it could be what you came across elsewhere and are referencing above.
I haven't used "GPS Test", but there are two different apps named "GPS Status" in the play market. Both allow for AGPS location data to be refreshed, and produced satisfactory results on my HTC Sensation. They appear to be device agnostic, and would be worth a try. I went from a maximum fix of 4-6 satellites on my Sensation up to 12-15 satellites (under ideal circumstances).
Wifi and bluetooth can also cause occasional fix issues-- make sure both are turned off. I get massive GPS lock problems with Wifi turned on-- not so much with bluetooth.
I know this is a old thread but I thought it would be useful if I would share this. It was a fix for the Hercules but since its like our big brother (lol) I think it should work for our here blaze..
