[MOD] TabletUI for SL I9003 (Currently only for AOKP) - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Dear friends,
A few days before I came across something amazing (see Title ) and I decided to try it on our phone. It worked but had some major issues with Phone like No SMS, No Data, etc. This thing attracted me so much that I have spent last few days to find that perfect thing for our phone. I tried to edit it myself but just like before I kept failing at decompiling and especially recompiling apks
Anyways today I have found and gathered almost Perfect solution (after numerous failed attempts for our phones) with almost everything working except one.
I will let the pictures do the talking. Its pure awesome

So.....liked it Well I very much did
Whats working :
Data
SMS
Play Store
Dialer (it does not crash)
Full UI
Whats new :
New Gmail
New GTalk
New Email
All apps which have TabletUI will load into that like TweetCaster
Overall its entirely different experience.
What's not working :
This
Now I know that we are very close and it needs just very simple change somewhere in Phone.apk to enable Voice Calling but I am dumb enough not to know that
May be experienced (in xml editing especially) Devs like Frankstein, UT36104, Lolation, Fuss and others could solve it in no time and give us perfectly working Phone.apk
How to install :
1. TAKE A BACKUP
2. Reboot into Recovery
3. Flash the zip
4. Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache (under Advanced)
5. Reboot
6. Change LCD density to 128 (last option in LCD Density screen. Select Custom in the end of the list)
7. Reboot
8. Wait for few minutes after boot
9. Set Font Size to HUGE.
10. Now clear Market data (System Settings>Apps>All>Google Play Store>Clear Data)
11. Smile
Also attached is the Restore (CWM Flashable) zip by our dear Frankstein to restore back to Normal(Phone) Mode. Dont forget to change LCD Density to 240 after flashing Restore zip. Dont forget to say THANKS to Frankstein here
What next :
If people contribute (since I am worse than a kid when coding, etc comes) we can fine tune it a lot and make it look more comfortable and extremely beautiful. Its already usable for me
What we can do
1. Increase the size of Navigation Bar
2. Remove padding in App Drawer (its cut-off from sides)
3. Increase font size slightly
And much more........
Full credit goes to Xylograph and another unknown Dev. Respect and Thank to you !
Hope it is good

First of all let me tell u....u r amzing and doing some great +ve stuffs for our device and the i9003 community.......!!!!
My query: will this mode be additional to the normal mode or after flashing this device will have only this tablate mode only....coz i think the tablate mode will work only in landscape mode means 90 degree rotated mode only......!!!
I hope u have got what my query is

And restore to original

@shail
You are so kind with your words
I just try to contribute little with my near to non-existent knowledge.
Regarding your queries
After flashing you shall have only Tablet mode but very easy to restore.
Tablet Mode will work in both Landscape and Portrait work just like normal phone.
Use it for some time and you will love it especially new apps
@Frankstein
Thank you so much bro !
I forgot to upload Restore zip and you just supported me so quick. Thanks
Frank, please solve this problem. Have a look into Phone.apk and enable Voice calls. Should not take you much time
Adding your zip to First post with Credit to you

Nice work bro... I'll also try to see what I can do with the phone.apk

Really it was awesome......But had to revert back to original mode due to voice calling issue, but really Gmail, Email & Gtalk application in this mode was awesome.....!!
I wish if we could use these two application in its Tablate format with normal mode under 200 DPI.......!!
Hope u will give a try to it if possible

Yesss......
I think I have enabled the Voice Calls too but once again got stuck at same point - Recompiling. Can somebody help me with this ?
I am using latest aapt, apktool 1.4.3 (also tried 1.4.2, 1.4.1), smali 1.3.2 and baksmali 1.3.2
Thanks
@shail
That will be great but not that easy as apps read density from Build.prop (as I know) and we can't have per-app density there. Although it can be achieved by directing apps to read Density from different config file but that's out of my scope
I have ideas but not skills to implement them. Sorry

[APP-MOD] Nexus1 Auto-Rotating HomeScreen (Launcher2.apk) -(v2) 1/22/2010

Hi hi
This is a modded Launcher2.apk ... modded from the Nexus1 2.1-ERD79 GoogleBuild.
A few known/minor issues:
- If you wipe (factory reset) your phone, after installing this mod, GenieWidget will disappear (release-keys issue), to fix, push the de-odex'd stock Launcher2.apk from my "Nexus1 ThemeTemplates" thread and reboot.
- Once you install the mod, you'll likely need to re-setup your widgets. It's recommended you setup your widgets in portrait mode, then reboot. This will ensure is functions well. In fact, whenever you mess with your widget layout OR a livewallpaper on your homescreens, you'll probably wanna reboot afterwards. But after that, it works really well!
(That's that)
V2 Changelog
- fixed - homescreen ... is now screen 3 in landscape mode.
- fixed - centered out the appdrawer in landscape. (see screenshot #4 ... working on a better version of this, it will require a new extended renderscript-surface class be created specifically for landscape mode)
- fixed - the "dots" in landscape mode (see screenshot #2 - before they were touching widgets and app icons)
**** Installation Instruction *****
1) Install a theme or install the first ThemeTemplate in this post, here ... Nexus1 ThemeTemplates
1) Download the (See Downloads at bottom) ... Nexus1_AR_Launcher2_update.zip file to your sdcard.
2) Reboot into recovery and perform a nandoird backup (Just to be safe )
3) Flash the update.zip in recovery and reboot.
That's It!
Enjoy

Hey grandt,
Yea ... I noticed that too ... I'll throw it in the OP.
But all around I agree. I absolutely love the landscape now on N1 with this MOD. This is why I shared it.
You shoulda seen it out-of-the-box ... man that was an *ugly* sight! lol
But these tweaks make it work-able for me.

hey what app is beeing used to take the screenshots
thanks for this.
@enomther
diffidently works like you said, i had to uninstall it until google releases ASOP........ was a little buggy sometimes when going back to my home screen. it would lock up some how. i still could go into the menu where all the apps are, but the text was off centered, and i cant click on any apps on my home screen or change to other screens for a minute.
cant wait for google to release ASOP!!!!!

Yea ... that's why I said make sure you set all your widgets and livewallpapers up and then reboot.
If you do this ... you won't experience the "freeze".
~enom~
i had tried setting up everything and then doing a reboot, but it still happened occasionally. no worries though, i am just happy nexus isn't laggy like the g1. i can live without it not being able to auto-rotate, until the source code is released.
it is a great quick fix though
Thanks
Works great. Very pleased. Many thanks!
Deleted. Sorry for the missunderstanding

Not trying to gen traffic.. jstu give credit.. as you can see it was not my work that Im' concerned about. I put out a fix in my code before any was released I personally feel responsible for it.
No need to get snappy at me as it was not a personal attack on you, jsut trying to correct any wrongs I did.
As for the bug fix, I'm not going to be a **** about it. I would assume that if you copied the launcher.xml from port and put into landscape as well it would solve your issue for defaultscreen. (I believe you said it was only occuring in land)
Also, if you are interested in creating the buttons to launch phone/browser that could be done easily as well. If this is of interest let me know.
As i said I'm glad people are enjoying this, I just do not want credit taken away from the proper people.

This is an ongoing developer project to make way for a modification that will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the experience of your phone. I know you've seen tablet mode roms before, and indeed it's a start, but this ain't enough. This thing has potential, but it is wasted the moment you try to stuff a full blown tablet into your poor phone. Yet we all know our high res phones can very well handle more than silly 1-column layouts. So the magic must be in between somewhere, a place that Google must have overlooked and left blank.
Yes, this rom strives to drop your device into tablet mode, but it won't stop there, it will reshape and redefine ICS to make it all a usefull addition and not just a cute novelty. Team PA is calling it: Hybrid Mode, best of both worlds.
First I recommend that you use smelkus recovery found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543
- Make a backup of everything you value like music, pictures, etc
- WIPE EVERYTHING! (system, data, boot, sd-ext, cache)
- Partition your sdcard (follow steps below)
I recommend that you partition your sdcard to 1024 (1GB), swap size 0
Then move ext2 to ext3 then ext3 to ext4
- Download the ROM in the same place as the changelog
- Flash it
If you STILL have problems then THANKS to MrTekn010933 on YouTube we NOW have a HOW TO FLASH video!
As always, I want to give credit where is due! I'm not as foolish as some and think that I'm a big shot developer and I can do things by myself. I want to thank the following people!

THE BUSYBOX SOURCE USED FOR THIS ROM : https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_external_busybox
- P.A.L., First time in Android history that Per-App-Layout has been realized. This rom features a setting called Per-App-Density. You can define an apps native DPI
with it, make it look stock, smaller or bigger than that, your decision. All apps are depicted at DPI 240 per standard. No other ROM has that feature right now!!
- Google Play does not allow density changes and will stop working if you mess around with that. This rom fixes that problem for you 100%.
- More stuff: Recents window closer to stock, fixes for overlapping elements, framework fixes, no crashes, working Phone (looks 100% like stock aswell), etc.
- No 4G
- No FFC (front facing camera)
- Netflix and HULU PLUS (just audio, no video)
- Native Camcorder does not record (use Videocam illusion)
Global density: Is the one used by your hardware configuration and all non PAD touched applications. It's the old one that you can change with build.prop,
and this one can get you outside of tablet mode - Phone mode. Don't touch it if you dont know what you're doing. This one has nothing to do with PAD or PAL,
as it's the one designed by google.
Deafult SystemUI DPI: User interface density, can be reflected on statusbar, Recent apps, etc. This one can't get you outside of your current mode.
Deafult User DPI: Is the one used when your app is not on pad.prop list, so when you run a new app that it's installed by you, and not on /system/app, it
will run at this density. This one cant get you outside your current mode neither.
Some QUICK known facts...
- You CAN'T change framework dialogs (like when you hold power button) density on tab mode yet, don't waste your time (it's limited from 120 to 128 global
density so it's not a huge difference)
- Keyboard must be set at 236 in Phone mode to work well with On-Screen Buttons. In tablet mode, it must be set to Tablet mode/density 120
- If you see the dock on launchers in tablet mode, and not the old layout, this is NORMAL, it was ugly before, and now it's preset to phone mode at 240 density. If you want to get the old
ugly tablet mode for launchers, go to settings > paranoid > hybrid settings > list apps, select your launcher, put density to 120-140 and put in on tablet mode
The message that appears every time that you change DPI or layout mode for any app IS NORMAL, Team PA put it in there so changes can be applied, the APP IS NOT FORCE CLOSING
PLEASE REMEMBER that NOT every app works well in tablet mode! There's nothing I or any developer can do except the developer of that APP. If you want to blame someone, blame them!
Please search, read, search again and then read some more BEFORE posting! If you take anything I say personal or want to throw a hissy fit and TEACH ME A LESSON, PM me and we can
hug it out..hahahaha

the on screen buttons can be disabled through the paranoid settings, even when in tablet mode you can have the navbar at the bottom without the onscreen keys.. unless theres something that changed specific to this device that i'm not yet aware of (i haven't gotten that far)

To be honest, this is not tablet mode at all, it has nothing to do with silly build.prop hacks. This is the first and only Android rom to feature true Hybrid mode. This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even systemcomponents individually. Remember, android is modular, everything is an app: Lockscreen, navigationbar, dialogs, popups, keyboards, widgets, and your regular apps of course. Apps have the capability to switch into various designs or layouts according to the device they run on. This can result in a complete new experience as many apps will transform to the better.
Now for every element that you like chose a mode (PhoneUI, Phablet/Nexus-7UI, TabletUI) and/or a size. You are 100% independent of the system DPI which runs nicely in whatever value it has been assigned to. You do not need to boot your phone into a certain DPI. Neither will most of the changes you apply require a reboot. You will not suffer from the myriads of troubles which normally haunt you under build.prop tablet mode. Your market, phone, etc. will all work, apps won't shrink on you unless you shrink them yourself. This project will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the feel of your phone.

If you have an issue and you want to call our attention, here's what you do:
1. Try everything you can, find solutions for yourself. Wipe caches, revert all your settings you have made, go back to your stock Kernel, factory reset if you have to or reflash the rom. Assume that the issue is on your side and try your best to isolate it.
2. Search this thread and Cyanogenmods aswell (its our base) for possible reoccurences of your issue and hopefully solutions that may have come up.
3. If you think the issue is important enough that we should cease our work and look into it, post your issue, BUT ...
... stay friendly, do not demand anything, do not threaten
... explain your issue as precise as you can, name the exact apps and conditions that cause trouble, help us to replicate the issue right away. If we can't there's no way we can fix it and your post will simply clutter the thread
... collect evidence, keep in mind this is a developer thread so even if you are not one, do us the favor and research how to record logcat. logcat is the single most important help you can give us to resolve your issue.

Nope, everyone with a brain, will look at the title, see the "4.0.4" and know that this is based on CM9 (and contains all CM9 bugs)..
People without brains should never look or try anything on this development section.

You do not need to boot your device into a certain DPI. Neither will most of the changes you apply require a reboot. You will not suffer from the myriads of troubles which normally haunt you under build.prop tablet mode. Your market, etc. will all work, apps won't shrink on you unless you shrink them yourself. This project will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the feel of it.

The more roms the better. IMO just post it!
what about the icons in settings?.will it be ok everytime i change the theme?anyway thanks rohan for a wonderful job
Only been playing for about 20 minutes and already love it. Either battery reporting is broken or I'm in for some phenomenal battery life. It hasn't dropped one % and I'm really hammering away setting everything up. Idk if this is a cm10 bug or not but led only blinks red for me.
Edit: light is fully functional, just took a reboot. Unfortunately battery life is looking to be right about what I was expecting from a jb rom. I slept for about 6 hours and it dropped 6%. I know 1% an hour isn't terrible but I've been spoiled by viper and king cobra, where I'd lose 1 maybe 2 % after 8 hours. Also, my battery held 100% for over 20 minutes of screen time then after began plummeting I love paranoid android so I'm making a nand now and will follow this thread closely. Thanks rohan!
nice.... downloaded and flashing now!
Looking forward to the development of this rom.

Did you build from source or use apktool? If you source built I would be more than happy to work with you
Also, anyone notice any issues so far? I don't use this ROM as my daily driver so I won't have much interaction with it.

Hi guys, I've been working really hard on an s5 Rom port lately. Doing so I came up with the idea to theme the new Android L Keyboard so that it fits better within the S5 System.
I hope that I'm allowed to share this on XDA. I've done the theme myself but of course the app belongs to Google.
I hope you like it.
My previous version had some problems due to a bug in APKTOOL. Now thanks to a lot of research and the kind help of @Shaftamle I've fixed those problems. Also, instead of using Shen Ye's Android L keyboard I used the latest build from the L preview.
I used some smali mods from Shen's app though to make my theme set by default.

(2.0 version)
MD5: d520de7b8ba1beb428154b7928b2f5ca
Changelog:
V2.0.1 - COMING SOON -
Removed some extra symbols (that appear twice)
Added the full experience to the french azerty keyboard aswell
V2.0
FC issue fixed
Added number-row
Made it much sexier
Made the S5 theme deault
V1.0
Initial release, a lot of FCs caused by a bug in APKTOOL
Features:
Number row with a much slimmer implementation than other mods
S5 Material theme
Removed the annoying fullscreen mode
Much slimmer design (smaller gaps between the rows)
Easy installation due to included libs in the apk
Installation:
Remove any existing Google Keyboard installations, if any
Install the apk (must have allowed "unknown sources")
Leave a thanks
As already stated, this also features a number row(as per user request), which I borrowed from other modders. The big change I made though, which took me a really long time to figure out, was to make the row much smaller, fontsize-wise. It's much prettier to look at and less bulky compared to the other mods now. If any other devs want to copy this addition, feel free to do so. Just don't forget to credit me
I also wanted to add secondary symbols to it, but decided not to do so because of the required amount of smali edits. It would require hours and hours of work to get it working...
I really hope that you'll appreciate this keyboard. I probably won't continue to work on it. I will however update it once Google releases the final version.
It works on all android devices supporting the normal L keyboard.
If you plan on using this in any ROM or use my edits, please ask for permission first. And please do also consider donating if you like this keyboard , I've spent quite a long time on perfecting it.
Have fun!
Looking foreward to the V17 Is your new keyboard in the V17?
Does the keyboard learn from writing, like SwiftKey and such?
Kind regards
HeThomsen

Install as normal apk. But you can't have any other material keyboard installed of course (well if the manifest is the same, which I don't think it is).

As I stated above, you have to keep trying to write something. And always click ok on every FC. You'll have to do this 10 times maybe before it finally works. Once it's working it won't ever happen again.
Can't get it to work. Got through like 50 FCs and still just FCs. Lol

If you really are taping on a text field and not just waiting for them to come, then I can't help you ;(.
Anyway, I am working on a fix. But somehow this apk behaves differently from all others I've ever themed...
My new theme will work with xposed instead. And will work 100%.

Sorry to hear that, it works for me and a lot of my friends. I can't answer why it doesn't for you. But well...
It will however work with xposed. And maybe even as a normal apk. There's a bug with the decompiler that causes this I think. I've asked other google keyb themers if they could help me fix it. There are some information being lost after I decompile the keyboard..
I hope they'll answer me. If they don't I'll program an xposed module.
I'm also theming some other apps aswell to feel more s5 like. And they all work at the first try lol. I think I will share them too. Although not to many have even responded on this one.

I actually dont think it's even possible for that to happen. Anyway I'm getting help from a Google Keyboard pro now so maybe a fixed Version will Show up soon.
After finding the fix, maybe you can add number row too in future versions?
