Htc one x multitasking update - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Right after seeing the One X stop streaming Slacker I downloaded it on my Galaxy Nexus. It played it non stop. Its would seem its not Ice Cream Sandwich but maybe HTC and the way it did the multitasking. BUT, it can't be all bad if the One X streams all the other music apps I tried. And the others do work. If they work for me they should work for others. I tested Pandora, MOG, and Google Music. All streamed without a problem. I even sent texts to my device and it alerted me but still kept playing. While scrolling ans while the display is off.
I also talked to HTC Tech support. They stated that other HTC phones are ALSO having problems with Slacker. But with the other music apps working (and I seen work for myself) they said Slacker will be releasing a update to make it more compatible not only with the One X but the other HTC phones not working right. The release date they did not know.

fwiw, I just looked at the reviews for Slacker on Play Store and it seems like a lot of people are having this same problem with several other phones with the latest Slacker update... I personally only use Pandora, but just thought it was worth noting.

I am having problems with MOG running 1.2.67. Won't multitask for flip. Google Play works fine. Have not tried anyother, ie iHeartradio or the one that came with it.

HTC monkeyed with it (read: ruined it) to make sense run better:

Finally! Netflix IS finally coming to Android

We knew this would be phone specific due to Netflix wanting to ensure content restrictions were in place. The good news, it will be more chip dependent and phones with Snapdragon processors will be first.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-14/qualcomm-some-android-devices-to-get-netflix.html
OMG. That would be awesome. Go Qualcomm!
CAN'T WAIT!
Well, that's not really saying much without even a hint of a release date.
I read a article were it said newer Qualcomm chips were going to get netflix . I wonder if the evo would qualify .

Netflix on my phone would be great. Give me something to do at work..other than actually work
I think an OS would have to have at least some attempt at security measures in place before that would happen...

I'm pretty sure the evo would qualify with it A8 type but too bad htc does not use the newer A9 that would make video playback as good as the iPhone 4 with it's high res screen and does this mean you will need 4g to stream the videos.
Well now unfortunately I just read at Engadget that only the newest Snapdragon chips, not even shipping in any phones yet, would have the capability for Netflix.
Poo Poo on Netflix, Google, and Qualcomm. As usual, the only care about selling NEW phones and could give a crap about anything already shipped.

Welcome to android.
for some reason DRM doesn't bother me when its coming from netflix. Probably because 7.99 a month for streaming is totally reasonable whereas $1-3 per episode of downloadable content is absolutely ridiculous.
Netflix is awesome but it doesnt work on my country.
I would never watch netflix on my phone. Ever.
Ever.
I just listened on Cnet podcast that only next gen snapdragon chips will work, and they aren't shipping until early 2012!!! They also said that it seemed fishy since the iPhone already has it and the chip in the iPhone is not unusual. This is BS, Netflix is drinking the Apple Juice.
BOYCOTT NETFLIX ANDROID USERS!!
Even if Netflix was available, I doubt my phone would even have the horsepower to run it (moto droid 1, unrooted), so I guess they are just trying to make sure it is a positive experience for those users. That, or they are trying to avoid the fragmentation issue, or only available in gingerbread or later...
I would rather wait until I upgrade my phone to make sure the app works as good as possible.
I have playon.tv on my desktop to stream stuff to my roku but they came out with an android app in the market and it allows you to watch netflix and hulu on your android device, assuming you let the desktop app run.
From what i understand, the android app goes to your actual pc where it gets the videos and converts it to an android compatible stream. I tried it and it worked fine. Not a free app but you can try the trial.

pre-purchase questions

I'm switching over from an HTC Pure (win mob 6.5). I've been watching Android and am dying to get going with it. But before making the plunge, I'm curious on the phone.
1) If HTC does not provide Android 2.4 upgrades or beyond, will the custom ROMs offering 2.4 allow the Google Marketplace to work? I ask this because the HTC Pure Android ROM doesn't offer Marketplace because of incompatibilities with a non-Android phone.
2) Will Skype work on it? I've been holding out for an HTC with a front-facing camera to do video Skype like iPhone offeres. But, that doesn't seem to ever be an option for HTC users... always a back-side camera only deal.
3) I know the Netflix isn't available for Android yet. But, does anyone have input on this CPU being on the supported list for the Netflix app that does come out?
Belongs in general. Wrong place my friend

Agreed, I apologize and I thought I was on the general thread. Guess I posted on the wrong Firefox tab. Thanks for moving it to the right forum.
First of all the pure sucked so this is godsend compared to the pure. Just get and see for yourself.

Sure um well lets see...
1. Absolutely however 2.4 is a ways off and 2.3 has yet to be officially released for inspire (summer i think). In other words don't worry about it unless you intend on rooting and flashing but as far as I know most if not all roms support marketplace.
2. Skype app should work but you kind of answered your own question. Why would you attempt to video conference on a phone without a front facing camera? I had iphone 4 and hardly used facial time, it was more like "cool i can see you" and um you look exactly the same as I saw you last.
3. Yes as far as I know all snapdragon processors should be supported.
Like I said before this phone is worlds better than the pure (I had one). If you just want a phone for pure (no pun intended) functionality then get an iphone 4. But if you want a phone you can hack and customize, with tons of potential and great specs then definitely get the inspire. I hope that helps
all custom ROMs still support the marketplace with no issues. so you have nothing to worry about.
Loving this purchase! Only have one problem with the thing...

Is Pandora ever coming?

Just wanted to know, really miss it or are is Zune pass the paid equivalent?
I emailed Pandora once and their smart ass remark was thanks for the suggestion be sure to check out Pandora on all these devices, I don't know what they're deal is, its like their biased against wp7

I'd imagine with the apis opening up a bit more they may be more inclined to give it a try.
zune pass is great but more likely slacker is the pandora replacement.
I use Last.FM. Frankly, I feel it's a better service, as unlike Pandora it lets you skip as many times as you want if ****ty songs keep coming up, there's no hourly limit
i agreee, last.fm owns pandora imo.

[Q] iPhone 4s vs Sensation xe

Hello,im writeing down from Italy, its my first time post,so im trying my best to be clearlly.my question reguards the iphone 4s,wich i own it,and wich im not satissfied about it,even more,im verry disapointed about the 660 euros payed for him,and the htc sensation xe,wich i would like to buy it,selling my iphone and buy the other one.i read a lot of comments, saw few video descriptions,i would like to know,in matter of the software that htc and android are provideing, would i find the almost same games and important apps on the android platform,as they are in the apple store?4 example, even if arent all the titles that are in the apple store, would i have plenty to chose from the android/htc market?hope someone will understand my point.even more, without making lots of stupid questions,as beeing a general discution center, and a help one, could be kindlly someone to post me the links to the rooting moods, along with all the good stuff?thank you in advance.
Well to be honest, you'll probably find more apps in the andoid market than in the app-store. What's even better: most are free.
The software itself is looking more like iOS, and iOS more like android. But in the end I like my android phone with Sense3.0, cause it's more open in my opinion. Now concerning you're apps, just take a look in the android market yourself to make up your mind:
https://market.android.com/
I'll be honest with you. Your main concern is the apps and games so stick with the iPhone 4s its a smashing device for entertainment. You get all the mainstream games first on ios. Also you spent a lot of money on it , if you really are completely unhappy with your iphone, there are now a range of better android phones with better displays and features. Go for stuff like the galaxy nexus/ amaze 4G etc. I honestly don't think that the sensation now has any usp to buy it over the newer phones other than user preference or a cheaper price tag.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
If you'd act smart you might find a person who'd pay you a lot more than required for a new sensation just because of the demand of your iPhone. There is a lot of isheep in this world.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Hmm do you enjoy future proofing phones and meddling with the insides of the phone's software for the greater good?
The apps from Apple app store is much better IMHO. There are some good entertainment apps on Android but not as much as Apple and not as new too.
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk
Apps are more polished on the iOS, and for the most part, are more consistent. Sometimes I find apps don't work as well on the Sensation. But the caveat is that usually you have to pay for their apps.
To be honest there are only a couple of apps that I can't do without on the Sensation, and those are GoSMS, Evernote, Dropbox, Tapatalk, Twitter, Music, Root Explorer, Navigation. Everything else is pretty much icing on the cake.
I see the iphones as working as advertised. The android phones require some assembly.
For instance, HTC was a POS for not optimizing the Sensation like Samsung did the GS2. Just because GingerBread wasnt ready for dual core phones, doesnt mean HTC had an excuse to go weak on us. Samsung spent time getting the GS2 to work like it should...HTC just keeps throwing Sensation variants at the market instead of optimizing.
I hate that I have to wait for DEVS to fix what HTC should have done from the start. The Iphone does what you want it to do, right out of the box. (At least with my experience). All my android phones require rooting and tweaking to get it to work as advertised.
Now, with the Iphone, what you see is what you get. You wont find the same hardware that the android super phones have, so there goes your potential. Youll need to buy a new phone each time instead of wait for a new Android flavor.
And yea...The android apps are hit and miss sometimes. Everyone has an app now these days...
most apps work fine on the Senny.
those that don't work or can't get from the Google market, there are work arounds.
there are some apps that are not available or that don't work(due to driver issue) but percentage isn't that large.
personally don't mind putting up with minor inconvenience for more open, better looking OS/UI, and better hardware.
having said that though, if I was in the market for a Android phone now, I'd skip the Senny and get one of the newer phones out now.
i.e. Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr, ect.
I recommend you stick with iPhone 4s. I sold my iPhone 3G some year ago and tried a couple of Android devices. Altough Android is great, it can never compare to iOS´s stability and speed. Also the apps/games are pretty polished to work flawlessly on iPhones. I have never been more satisfied with other system than iOS. Main Android´s disadvantage is that is produced for various devices with various hardware capabilties. And manufacturers never make perfectly flawless firmwares for it (and because of that the XDA forums exist ) Now I´m selling my Sensation (purchased for 540 euros) which is suffering from really funny defects (see many complain threads in here on XDA). I´m really pretty pissed and have strong feeling that I´ll buy iPhone again.
To be fair, we ought to wait for ICS before comparing phones. ICS is supposed to bring what the Sensation should have had all along. If ICS rolls around and we still see numerous issues, then the iPhone 4s would be the winner.
iPhones work great without having to fiddle with them, but are already at their best.
Android phones are usually way ahead of the software and either have to wait months (sometimes a friggen year) or require ALOT of fiddling. ICS is supposed to unite all the devices, so we will see.
If it wasnt for tmobile being such a tard, I would have also chosen an iPhone.

Sky go app UK you couldn't make it up

Thought I would post this to give you all a laugh. The sky go app allows you to watch the sports and movies you subscribe to at home on your mobile device. This app was released on IOS first as sky mobile then sky go over 12 months ago. There has been a running battle on the sky forums from android users trying to get them to release the app for android, many thinking sky had signed a deal with apple only something sky deny.In June. 11 they said it would be out in Autumn, then by the end of of 2011, the by the end of winter.Needless to say android users were getting pretty hacked off. Finally on the 31st Jan 2012 they announced it would launch sometime in Feb 2012 for 2.2 and 2.3 only and only on 7 device galaxys,s2,HTC desire hd,desire s sensation etc. After several threads on the forum slating them and asking why no tablets or ICS support they basically said no demand for it yet.Thing is all the devices it will run on are due to get this ICS update over the next month meaning the app will become obselete just after its release. For a large multinational media company their total lack of understanding of the android market is unbelievable and shocking .When I get home ill post links to.some of their replies to questions its laughable.

It's unfortunate, but i'm guessing the people that are making the decisions all have iPhones in their shirt pockets, and really don't care "they are OK".
My bank is the same, iPhone app, all it's customers are asking for Android and they are sat on their arse.

This app has finally been released but it does not work on rooted devices ,even though it I phone version works on jailbroken devices and you can only access the content if you have a valid sky account they are quoting DRM ad the reason why they have blocked it working on rooted devices.do you think it will be possible for the XDA community to get it work

Just put Sky Go on my GSII just to find out you can only register 2 mobile devices for Sky Go at any given time, laptop and XBOX currently registered. You can make just one change per month.

It may have the same "protection" that the Amazon Instant Video app has. Try installing Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Do a temp unroot and then force close the Sky app. If its like the Amazon app it will let you in after you reopen it while temp unrooted.
