Yeah that not gonna happen
T-mobile steals enough money from me to try to filter out more from a native feature of the device...
I hear that! I'm sticking with my rom.! I have android 4.0.3 thanks to xda already! The update is not for me. I think the developers versions are better anyway! I'm a tmo customer and they already rape me monthly 254.00 a month for two phones one equipment charge! I do have unlimited but come on! That's sky high! There not getting another 15 $ out of me! Can't we just root it and install a tethering app? That's what I did with my moms old LG Phoenix.

It's happening to me too, and a few searches on Google found some threads on some of the ICS ROMs that quote up to 45 minutes for it to come back. I'm wondering how many messages those people had, though. The last I checked I think I had over 15K (I'm a pack rat - that's every message since my first Android phone activated the night before they launched the G1). I know that it took a couple of hours to restore those messages when I first got my Sensation using MyBackupPro, so I'm hoping that will be the approximate amount of time this "upgrade" will take.
I'm also hoping that the messaging app will be faster. I had almost this many messages on my G2 last month before I upgraded to the Sensation via a warranty exchange. The first time I loaded the messaging app on my Sensation it took 5-10 seconds to show me the list (G2 was < 1 second). Hopefully the HTC ICS Sense messaging app will be as fast as the app on my G2 or I may have to revoke my pack rat status.
[Update, it seemed to take around an hour when all was said and done. It seems to load and update the screen much faster now as well, but I'll know for sure when I get some new messages...]
Ok after reading all of you guys opinions on the ota is ready making me think twice about installing it lol
Sent from My $40 Sensation
I just updated my post above to include the results. It looks like the messaging app might be faster for huge numbers of messages now.
But you may have to wait up to an hour per 15K-ish messages to do its initial bookkeeping on the first start after the OTA.
My sensation won't update. It starts the update process then freeze. WTF!

I'm happy with it, but I have noticed one issue. Twice now the screen brightness has gone way down and not come back up. I have to turn automatic brightness off and back on for it to come back.
I don't care about the blue battery icon, I use ChargeBar and Battery Status to keep an eye on charge levels anyway.
I too have the same problem, I received the android 4.0 update notic and have already download it but unable to update after the download. when ever I hit the install now all I see is an android icon and the ! mark on my phone scerrn. When that happen I will have to remove the battery out of the phone before I can get it back on. I am using the sensation 4G but running the sensation XE firmware from XDA website.

Yeah there is a quick update that users should get within a couple of hours of making their first call on TMO's network. This isn't a major update. Just some fixes and tweaks.
I was curious since I hadn't received the update on my personal pre-launch device yet. I am still on 1.13.531.1 software.

You probably wont see it with root. You have to go back to stock everything and then maybe...I rooted mine and haven't seen the update...over 48 hours, so I went back to stock with the leaked rom on the mytouch4G thread. (XDA)

Out of the many threads and forums I have read it seems as though many people are scared to root, and that is understandable because of warranty issues and whatnot...but I'm just curious how long did you guys have your phone before you decided to root?
For me, I enjoyed stock on the day I purchased the phone but rooted the next day because I figured I had solved hundreds of problems with computers and phones and tech...so how hard could it be to take care of rooted android?

15 minutes at the most
Before I got out of the at&t store parking lot.
I waited a whole week but that was because this is my first android device, so I had to read & read & be sure I was confident enough to do it.
Right when I got home. Had bubbys already downloaded before I had the phone lol

Two weeks for me. My first android phone, so I read lots of threads here and didn't find any cases of total irreversible bricking, so I went for it. Had an anxious moment or two, but it went very well, and now I've tried several ROMs. Sticking with MIUI for now, although I keep looking at other ROM announcements...
As quickly as I could after removing it from the box.
1week and 3days.
Had to wait 3 hours because I had to fix some issues with mobile data not working right at first.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I waited about 3 days. Got a feel of stock sense and even side loading with the Sideload Wonder Machine. I still couldn't live without Cyanogen Mod, governing my CPU, and theming my whole device.
Oh the freedom...
I made it a few hours, then I was sick of stock.....
I rooted today, and I bought the phone the week it came out. I wasn't in any rush, since I didn't want to do a bunch of troubleshooting. The rooting tools are really great and are totally stable, so I went for it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I waited about a week only because I wanted to make sure there were no factory defects. Didn't want to go through the hassle of returning to stock.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I downloaded three ROM's and the hack kit when my phone shipped from Ft. Worth. When it showed up I guess it took a couple hours to root it because I just plugged it up until the light turned green and proceeded to root. It never actually booted into stock. I had enough of a nightmare with a stock Wizard back in the day.
I'm glad HTC decided to dissolve the locked bootloader policy because my SOP regarding all new HTC devices is to not buy them until they're well-supported here. HTC support is useless except for free battery cover, sim cover, and battery while in warranty and hardware exchange. They've outright lied to me a handful of times.
Took me about two weeks, as this was my first htc and manual adb root. I gotta say doing it the long way and doing the research was way better in my opinion than the one clicks and z4root that I used on my captivate. I think if more people did it the manual way we would have less conflicts with the different manufactures and in turn less locked bootloaders, because people would be more educated and less likely to mess up their devices.

I started downloading the things I needed to root BEFORE I even had the phone. As soon as I brought it home, it was time to root it!

It only takes one grain of sand ( quartz ) in your pocket to scratch it. More of an unlucky thing than a failure of the gorilla glass .

The data lag that you're referring to is an issue. Exchanging your phone will not resolve it. I found a fix (at least it works for the most part) that I posted in the developer section. As for the other problems you named, I'm not having any of those issues.

I despise walmart but I found humor in what you wrote. So you're saying that Walmart opens the devices and fudges them up, then sends them out "all whack yo"? You don't think it's more likely that it was just a bad device? The real reason why wally world can sell them so cheap is because it's bait to get you inside the store. Once inside, you're likely to do your shopping there and hence Walmart turns a profit. Most of these other retailers sell it at almost cost and make their money on screen protectors, and cases.

I've owned every device T-Mobile has to offer and for such a powerhouse not to have any backing was a deal breaker for me. I went back to the Nexus S and now I have the Sensation. I'm staying with HTC until the new Nexus launches.
How do you guys feel about LG & T-Mobile now after petitioning and emailing them? They are basically not looking to improve the device. The G2x may be a epic fail. I enjoyed it while I had it but it clearly lacks support.
I havent seen any issues on my Sensations behalf. I think that unless you have tested it or owned one you can't go by hear say. The issues people addressed as far as the G2x only some have experienced but those who have them might want to make the jump while the G2x still holds some value.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Oh but listen to what your saying. You have exchanged the G2X 5 times and you still have the same issues? That means it is not going to magically get fixed by doing even more exchanges. The reason they stopped doing exchanges is because they know the phone has problems on ALL the phones and until it gets updated it wont do any good to swap it out for another. Makes sense to me. I understand switching it for a sensation if you cant handle the issues but I completely understand why tmobile is doing this. Makes sense to me. Personally I chose this phone because I knew it would be supported by cyannogen and im pretty happy I went that route rather than the sensation because who knows how long it will take to get updates for that. I have absolutely no issues except a little screen bleed. Obviously the nexus phones are going to get support first and then followed by any phone supported by CM. This phone is already leaps and bounds better than the sensation when you consider the custom rom community.
HOWEVER... I will say that t-mobile AND LG need to speak up and let us know what is going on. Admitting they have issues is ok as long as they are working to fix it but leaving us in the dark is kinda crappy.
Frankly this is still an unconfirmed newsletter. Hopefully well see something about this soon
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Leaving anyone in the dark is not cool. Announce something. Email Twitter fb whatever. Of course the g2x is ahead in Roms the Sensation isn't even a month old. It took 2 months to get a rom for it and it was great. When the Sensation gets s off it will be a monster more than what it is now. I liked the g2x don't get me wrong but somethings I couldn't ignore and for someone who pays full price for phones I don't think it was worth my money. The Sensation feels more of a solid device
And also people have reported that some exchanges for a device have solved most of their issues. Some just chose to deal with it.

I was under the impression the the update would contain more than just GB. It has been rumored to contain better drivers and other fixes as well. Hopefully we will know before September.
You people need to understand something: this phone does NOT need a gB update nor did tmo ever say that this mysterious update was going to be gb. What we are waiting for is a FIRMWARE update from LG, distributed through tmo. This what the Rep who told me they were pulling the g2x, ( which they temp. did a few weeks later) said. He told me the firmware update would be first, then if all goes well they MAYBE will release gb for us. Yeah could be BS, but he's been right so far.

Actually t-mobile and LG both promised updates to Gingerbread claiming it would be right after initial release. T-mobile claimed before summer. LG boasted how they decided to leave it stock android in specifically so they would be able to quickly update the device right after release. Its not been quite a while and I am pretty sure they should have had at least something by now.
Man this whole thing with LG/ tmo giving us totally different versions/BS promises with every Rep is just BS. I hate to say it but IMO the only thing that's gonna make these corporate douchbags give us the truth is through a class action lawsuit. This is just so uncooked of them to play this game. I just finished doing a satisfaction survey about my One S. It asks how you like it, what made you buy it and things you don't like about it. I made it pretty clear I wasn't satisfied with this phone the way it is now. The bloatware, the signal problems, the gps jumping all over the place and the wifi/4g bug after the newest update.
After I was done with the survey I qulified for a moderated forum, I must attend the forum for 3 days straight, twice a day for a total of 30-60 minutes. I will receive a $50 voucher once completed, the forum will be announced at a future date.
DO THE SURVEY, LET THEM KNOW WE DON'T WANT THE BLOATWARE AND THAT THE UPDATE SCREWED THE PHONE UP.
I got that survey also. And I let them know about all the bloat as well

Same here, and let loose with both guns about the bloatware, and how I feel about their capping data, but also installing apps that can't be disabled that use data.
At the end I was told I qualified for a follow up study I would be paid $50 to complete. Anyone else get that? I haven't been sent the info on the study yet, though.

Yeah, I got the $50 offer too, seems like the dissatisfied customers are getting the offer.
Where can I take the survey

Yeah. I got this offer too. Hopefully less bloatware.

You have to get a personal invite via email. I found mine sitting in my spam box yesterday. I complained about everything except I forgot about them removing free tethering. I too took up the invite for the $50 followup.
I got this too. Before even visiting xda. I answered it all and mentioned the bloatware and sensitive screen and battery size. (Not that I have battery issues but still) I also went for the $50 offer still waiting on the confirmation email.

Me too. Waiting for the other thing to start. The ota had my phone performing worse on quadrant. And yesterday I got that bug where the phone had no signal while on gps.
Still nothing about the followup. Anyone get their info yet? I want my $50
Now ask yourself, did I really just read that? Yes you did.

Anyone ever get the follow up after the forum participation for the $50? It's been over a month now.

I haven't. Sure was nice of them to get our hopes up. Of course, I haven't gotten my $50 rebate or the $100 for trading in my Shadow II yet either. I'm about ready to try the GS3 (maybe it will actually do some things properly) so add all my One S accessories to the list, and this has turned into a very expensive lesson (along the lines of: The HD2 must be the exception, cause HTC + Tmobile = Fail).
Nope. Me neither. I gave them a call and i was told if i don't receive by the end of the month(steadily approaching) to call back and they will get it situated. Other than that. No help. Seemed like they didn't even have access to any basic information.

I went with the gs3 after waiting these 2-3 months without s-off on the one S. No regrets. The gs3 is just a much better device with more dev support. I don't blame the device just as you said the Htc+Tmobile combo = fail

What contact information did you use to get in touch with them. I no longer have the original email. I don't even remember entering my street address anywhere for them to send me the money. I have bad memory so if we had to I don't remember.

1-888-525-5026 here is the number that is in the email. I'm pretty sure the first time you sign into the forum it asked for your address and other info.
