Cheap Android Handset choice - General Questions and Answers

Anyone have any opinion which of these would be the best buy for under £150 UKP.
I need to be able to unlock to T-Mobile if possible...
HTC Cha Cha
Orange San Fran 1 or 2
HTC Wildfire or Wildfire S (none s is cheaper)
HTC Explorer
Galaxy Pro
Galaxy Ace
Thanks for any input !

Galaxy Ace

I agree the ace seems to be the best of the picks although personally i would say they are all solid phones. The ace is the flashiest and i guess better as a whole. I have this one on t-mobile works perfect.

Also the Xperia Ray, but it looks a bit small.

Ace for sure

Great minds think alike.

If I were you, I'd choose Ace, sell it on Ebay and buy SE Live with Walkman. It has ARM v7 Qualcomm MSM825 processor @ 1GHZ, which is very big advantage, and more ram than Ace (384 vs 512 MB), but its price is almost the same as Ace's

You can choose any phone from your list you can buy HTC Wildfire S as my recommendation. But dont buy Samsung Ace its screen resolution is low which you will not like, the colours and sharpness of the screen is also not great.

orange sanfrancisco

You can also have a look at the xperia U and the xperia neo v

Xperia Ray, you'll love it.

I bought a second hand HTC Wildfire just to see out my contract as my Nokia N97 was falling to bits and, quite frankly, a disappointment (I'd put up with it for a year.)
The Wildfire was my first HTC phone and my first Android phone and, despite being relatively underpowered and low resolution, it was a joy to use! It was that that made me opt for the HTC Sensation when my contract came up for renewal.
I'd have gone for a Wildfire again if the resolution had been higher. That's the only disappointing thing; I did think to myself "Well, I won't be using the Wildfire to watch films/look at photos" without actually taking a step back and thinking that the resolution also affects your screen real estate too.

True. This phone works great and is super easy to root. Or the Huawei Honor (Mercury on carriers) is excellent.

San Fran 2 is the best hardware IMO. Brilliant screen. Good price.

The Orange Monte Carlo is within your budget now I think. It has a big screen too It's like the big brother of the San Fran.
(It's aka the ZTE Skate btw)
I was going to get it but Orange were out of stock last August, so I go a DHD for £260 instead

I have the first Samsung Galaxy S i9000m and I put Miui ICS on it. Blows my mind how much faster and nicer my 2 year old phone runs and looks.

Which used GSM Android to buy for max $250

Hi Guys,
Which Android phone would you advice me with a budget of maximum €200 ($250)? I'm willing to buy something used.
Mainly I need good and stable WiFi Tethering (Hotspot, not peer-to-peer access point).
Second thing is the speed - I'm upgrading from a HTC Hero, which even after rooting with VillainROM isn't really the fastest...
HTC Desire? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Edit: sorry wrong section, moved question to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26891627#post26891627
For used phone i think Galaxy S i9000. i have this phone and a very very good device
Thanks for your answer.
Actually, the Galaxy S Advance still fits my budget, so I guess it would be a much better choice than the S i9000?
I'm looking for a 3.7" or 4.0" phone (I'd like it to be usable with one hand) so that leaves me with rather limited choices. I have also found the Xperia Sola, but it seems that it isn't very popular here on xda, and I have read it has browsing problems...
Other than that, the Galaxy Ace 2 seems very interesting.
What would you advice? Or are there any other phones worth considering?
Buy the HTC explorer or Samsung GT-5360 there both good phones.

I can only suggest that what ever you get, make sure it's HTC!

I used to have a Desire Z (the one with the hardware keyboard) but it started feeling too slow because of lack of sheer CPU horsepower.
I managed to snag a used HTC Sensation 4G for about $250 and I absolutely love it. There are lots of great ICS ROMs for it (outside of any official ICS releases). With newer phones coming out, you should be able to pick up a used one within your budget.
Good luck!
HTC sensations are going for around 250 in my area.

..if you can, go for the HTC Sensation...otherwise Samasung Galaxy S
Thanks so much for the answers
I was looking at these phones, I think I might stretch my budget, but the Sensation is 4.3"... My original goal was to be able to use the phone in one hand, but maybe I'm exaggerating?
Last time I went to a store here I found that the Xperia Sola (3.7") was OK to use with one hand. The Galaxy S Advance (4.0") felt quite large already, but was also possible. There wasn't anything 4.3", but the One X (4.7") felt totally impossible.
If I were to go for the Samsung, is a Galaxy S really preferred over a dual-core 1,0GHz Galaxy S Advance??? Or is it to be expected that there won't be much development for the S Advance?
And about the Sensation - I see there is the Sensation 4G with a 1,2GHz CPU and the XE with a 1,5GHz. I assume the latter would be of preference?
Get the LG g2x
HTC sensation XE. Great phone.

The Sensation XE has a faster CPU (not THAT noticeable) but it does have Beats Audio, which the regular 4G doesn't have.
Of course, if Beats Audio is important to you and you can get a 4G for cheap, do it and just root your device and install a custom ROM onto it. There are lots of them and some of them have Beats built in.

Why?
The folks from the Atrix forum claim that CM9 is usable on daily basis, and the videos of it on youtube look really good (very smooth)
I am actually considering a SGS2 now, because they have dropped in price second hand considerably (I can get a used SGS2 for the price of a new Atrix here), but I'm still not really convinced I'll get used to the size of it...

I've had the atrix and honestly. Idk what the deal is about Motorola but the atrix just isn't smooth. Its not slow, no not at all but I mean it studders on every little action. I don't know how to explain it, its like its not optimized for the hardware.

Suggestion for a new mobile

Hi folks,
I know this is not the right forum to ask a question like this but I have been using my desire s for the past 1 Year and em feeling a lot intimate with it. recently my screen got cracked and so I plan on getting a new mobile, after a big walk around the forums I found HTC sensation and Galaxy s2 are the ones having a good feedback and also fits my budget. Now em in a duo of which one to select I like htc sense ui a lot but Samsung is well known for its source code release stuff (I'm a flashalcholic). Please suggest me a good mobile my budget is 400 to 450 usd (max 25000 INR)

If you are a flashaholic would you not be better off going for the Galaxy Nexus?
At this stage you would probably be better off getting a second hand Sensation or SII as long as it is in good condition, would be much cheaper.
s2 will be better then sensation, sensation battry really sucks!! AND my suggestion is XPERIA S!
Don't buy a sensation, buy a Sensation XE. Better battery, 1.5 GHz processor. The ROM's you flash will be the same though.
S2 is a wonderful and fast phone, but I personally don't like is design. It has 1.2 GHz....but I guess it's a little above your budget around 27k I presume..unless you get a nice deal.
Evo 3D and Xperia P are 25k in the market. Both are pretty awesome. Xperia P just looks so elegant though
Best of luck

Yeah, there is no better UI than Sense. And is just looks so good. If you get XE for 24k then is wonderful !
Although I'd like to point out that HTC of its really slow with updates. I got ICS mid easy through July. On top of that there was some problem in the update and I don't have a working Bluetooth and WiFi. You'll have to go to the service centre and install a 'solution' to get it fixed. This however hasn't happen to all XE's. Only to some unfortunate devices. (For more information on this check my thread about it on my profile...I don't want to troll too much here)
About Xperia P...Sony devices don't have rapid and consistent development as far as I know...my brother had Xperia Arc S and its kinda slow.
About the screen now I know what not to do I punch my wildfire even often :banghead:

Hey, I had the desire s for just over a year too and I've just got the one S. I recommend it. Takes a while to get used to the super amoled screen but when you get used to it, it's a fantastic device. It's got a great size screen. 4.3 inch is much better than 3.7 and I think 4.8 is a bit too big. It's also the same size screen as the galaxy s2 and it's a super amoled display so you're getting the greatness of the sgs2 screen on an HTC. It's got a fantastic processor as well the snapdragon s4 is incredible powerful. im getting quadrant scores of about 5000 which is higher than the quad core one x! So get the one s and then you're staying within the HTC community. I've picked up the sgs2 and I just don't like the build quality of their phones. It's like they have expensive hardware chucked in plastic! Doesn't make sense to me and touch wiz is horrible, no problem if like you say you are a "flashoholic" I'm not sure if it's in your budget but it can't be too far off considering it's dual core and the s3 model is cheaper I think
He is right, I guess if you can manage getting One S at even 28k buy it blindly...I didn't recommend this because it's above 30k in the market.
Something I learnt is never by a flagship phone if you are after the next flagship phone is announced or out. I got Desire HD in august '11 and sensation was announced in September. One X was announced as soon as I bought my XE. They just ditch the older one and concentrate upgrading the newer.

Hi, a phone is a phone is a phone ? Except when it gets silly looking a becomes a "phablet !"
I run a Samsung Galaxy GT-S5570 (mini) yes its small, but it does what I bought it for...
However if you are a power user I would choose a Droid Razor MAX its got a 31 or 3300Mh/amp battery, plenty juice to run your apps or WiFi all day-then some.
Then again if you just want a smart Droid that can do it all, I can't see past Samsung's range.
Check which flavour your new phone will run and if its going to get a newer version.
Hope this helps, good luck happy hunting
P.S. Don't be afraid to ask a salesman to boot up a fresh one,if you see one you fancy and the display version is dead or a dummy.
Regards Angela

There are plenty out there but which is best it depends from your "taste".My opinion Nokia 920 is a very good phone with iphone 5 and gs3.But this year these phones will be outdated by phones like xperia z and LG Optimus G Pro.more to come for sure:laugh:
There are some nice phones with small screens and large screens, although large screens are trending right now, so it's likely that we'll see manufacturers pour more money into larger-screened models. We can kiss smaller phones goodbye. I'd say the GS3 or Xperia Z, but I'd wait until the GS4 comes out... rumored to have a 5 inch screen
HTC One X ftw, satisfied with it as well as the low price nowadays =)

more competition we can see in 2013...
And every smartphone can take and hold 1st place only for weeks... maximum for a month...
But after a month it is outdated...
And we always think"i could get better if i waited some more time"
