Before you do anything, you need to root your device. You can find many guides on how to do this.
Afterwards, install ROM manager and flash ClockworkMod from the app. Then find a ROM you like and store it. Be sure you do a backup before you flash a ROM. In the recovery screen (can be accessed from ROM manager), you will need to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe delvik (from advanced menu), and then install from zip. Hope this helps.
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13556801 it should get you started.

Hi I want to try out ICS on my HTC Desire. If it ends up being unstable im going to want to flash it back to CM7 (gingerbread), but is it safe to do so. Are there any extra steps i need to do other than wipe the cache partition and wipe data/factory reset, then install zip from sd card.
In general a full wipe(data, cache, dalvik) should be enough but sometimes you have to mount system or data.. This information should be given in the rom's description
What is your stock android version?

This a general question about apdating custom roms...
In cwm there is an option 'Update from sd' or something like that... What does it do?
Plus, If i have a rom installed into my phone, like for example a Version 1 of the rom. Do I have to wipe everything before installing version 1.1 or can I just flash it unto the other rom without wiping everything?Do I have to wipe only when a version 2 of the rom comes out? Ask the developer? EX. Real ics 5 to 5.1, to 5.2....
I have the same question for FXP cyanogen mod. If I have FXP149, Do I have to wipe everything before installing FXP150?
THANK YOU!

Use the "install from sd card" and choose the updated file for your custom rom then install after install just wipe cache & dalvik cache then reboot
I've few questions:
1. When I change custom roms, I should do Full KPE everytime? For example, if i've install CarbonRom1.7 and after that I want to install ThinkingBridge ROM. I should just format everything or I need to do Full KPE ?
2. All roms have problems with Wifi? I've tried X-Gamerz, CarbonRom1.7 and ThinkingBridge ROM and I need to close and open the wifi for few times to connect. On stock rom, it work very well.
3. I tried to install Real Football 2013 from market and when it starting is remain stucked at Gameloft logo. Why?
4. If I install a rom based on 4.2.2 A2, when I should install first CM10 A4 or CM10.1 A2 ?
I'm sorry for my bad english and for these questions, but I don't understand some things.
1. Changing customs rom, go into reboot recovery and do a wipe then flash the rom you want
2. Yeah most roms have that problem but you get use to it im just using x-gamerz rom
3. Im not sure why isnt it working, i think theres a thread that says what games work on our device look for it.
4. Hmm not sure what you mean but if you are install a rom 4.2.2 you will need to install cm10.1 4.2.2 for the rom to work

No, if they share the same rom base (like qwerty & gamerz). In that case, just wipe cache, dalvik, install the new rom, install gapps, and you're good to go.

btw= by the way
I already tried this ROM and i'm sure that it fully supports Arabic, It was very smooth and handy, I used it for short minutes then I went back to MIUI because I didn't like the full grey design.
To install it, first at all, copy the zip file on your SD card, Boot into recovery mod, backup you current ROM to SD card in case something wrong happened. After that, wipe data and cache then flash Clean Kat, finally wipe dalvik cache and tap reboot system.
In case you got bootloop or you didn't like Clean Kat, just go back to twrp and restore your backup.

Clean Kat was very smooth, no bugs so far, didn't use it for much time, but I think everything is working fine, besides a liitle bug when scrolling through Download files, and there is no option to disable soft keys.
You can disable it by editing build.prop
