SENSE 1.0 THEMING PROJECT
Goal:
Provide a place for themers to come and develop beautiful themes that will work with ALL HTC EVO 4Gs running Sense 1.0.
Introduction:
My name is swagstr and I am currently the lead developer of SOS. My goal is to create themes that can be used on any Sense 1.0 ROM. Since these ROMs all use the same base, why not share themes?
The EVO Classic:
tommytomatoe has put together a far superior ROM than most Sense 1.0 ROMs and themes for other Sense 1.0 ROMs may hinder some features of The EVO Classic. Therefore, special considerations should be taken by users of this ROM.
This is NOT for:
Sense 2.1/3.0 ROMs, including: Synergy, MikG, The Express
Sense 3.6/4.0 ROMs
AOSP/ICS/MIUI ROMs, including: CyanogenMod, CIUI
What I Will Provide:
I will provide a forum thread that I will keep organized.
I will provide free webspace (under swaggedoutstock.com/#YOURNAMEHERE) to any themer.
I will assist themers in making their themes compatible with DEODEXED and ODEXED ROMS and The EVO Classic as well as stock Sense 1.0.
The Format (i.e. What You Will Provide)
To have your theme included in this post, please post a link to a currently existing thread or have your file attached/linked to your post. Let me know if you would like the file hosted.
Each Theme should be laid out in a piece-wise format and/or a complete package. Preferably, if you are preparing a full theme, you should provide the pieces.
An example is if you are making a theme for a dock - you will simply provide a flashable Rosie.zip theme. If you are providing a theme that themes the dock, clock, and status bar - you should provide a full package and a separate Rosie, HtcClockWidget, and SystemUI.apk. This way, people will be able to mix and match themes as they see fit.
Big pieces (dock, clock, etc.) should be handled by flashable .zips. Little pieces (remappable dock icons, battery icons, notification pulldown backgrounds) should be handled by ZipThemer. You do not need to provide every little detail of your theme as a a ZipThemer, but if you like to provide options (different right dock buttons, for instance) you should provide ZipThemers for these options (instead of multiple flashable .zips).
Conclusion:
Lets make our EVOs even better already! And of course, credit will be given where credit is due. If you see someone's work that is not being credited properly, let me know. If you are going to use someone else's work (as a base for your theme, to include in ROM, etc), let them know and make sure you give proper credits.

Which link should I click on for my ROM?
Depending on your ROM, you should click on one of three links.
If you are using an ODEXED ROM (like some versions of SOS and stock ROMs)
If you are using a DEODEXED ROM (like Nitrous or DigitalKarma)
If you are using the EVO Classic v0.0.9
If an "Odex" option is not available, the themer has provided an AROMA installer package that will ask you whether or not you are using odex and will install the appropriate packages.
If an "EVO Classic" option is not present, you are either downloading a ZipThemer file or a piece of a theme that is not vital to the EVO Classic's perfomance (i.e. Clock Widgets).

No, but if you aren't, please let me know because it is very easy for my to make your theme compatible with all Sense 1.0 ROMs and to provide the bits-and-pieces.

oh i just looked this up on the computer. If I could make one suggestion, it's to use half the image size for the screenshots (240x400). Using the whole res for screenshot takes up a bit of room.

Well, I was going to use a Tweaks app. But now that I think about it, the app re-directs to LaunchKey... so it's going to be needed either way.

Well, we SHOULD. But users aren't the best at adopting ZipThemers. I think ZipThemers will be very handy for dock icons, battery icons, little pieces of the status bar and such. But a Rosie built off of SOS's base will flash on Nitrous and is much easier for the end-user to use

Well, some have white text and some have dark text, but that can be swapped out with a ZipThemer. However, I need to change a few little things on my SystemUI.apk. Give me a few days and I will post that.

Those of you familiar with my smooth theme will not see much of a difference from the last one I did for ZenEXP 0.9.4. This is a complete port of my theme to the latest Zen ROM. At this point, whatever ROM I am using will get this theme ported to it. The biggest update to the theme is the widgets, pictured below.

The other widgets that use the HTC ActionBar (the two or three buttons that hang off of the mail widget, etc.) will have clear backgrounds. There was no way I could figure out how to separate the mail widget from com.htc.resources
Landscape works for all widgets, but on some of them, the header text is distorted or not centered
I can't figure our how to remove the background from the bookmark list widget
The popup in the browser will be black with black text
Still to do:
There seems to be a character limit on the mail widget. Now that it is larger, I am trying to figure out how to show more text
Modify the Messaging widget
Modify my master widget (power control / weather / scoreboard / genie) to match this format
I'm not even using all the widgets that I modified, but figured some people might. If you want me to look at additional widgets that will match this format, I'd be willing to entertain any requests
Continue to modify the mail widget in landscape
I'd still like to figure out the people widget
I will also be making a mail widget that looks like TF3d
Note:
The clock shown in the screenshots is Beautiful Widgets. This theme will not affect the stock HTC flipclock. (I'll always use BW because it updates the time behind a clear lockscreen). Also, the clear lockscreen mod is not included because it breaks the theme apk. Once someone comes out with a clear lockscreen for ZenEXP, I'll add it back in. Also, this will overwrite the stock theme (Nest) and can't be applied through the built-in theme app.
The Friendstream, News, Calendar and Bookmark widgets may work on other ROMS, I haven't tested. I tried to make them independent of the com.htc.resources apk. As mentioned above, the mail widget depends on the com.htc.resources apk so it will look different on other ROMS but may still work.

ORRR can you just point me in the direction of ANY metamorph themes that will work on darchdroid or any other hero cdma rom i dont care I just want to be able to theme my freakin phone! thank you!!!

I'm too busy right now to port it and unfortunately, the theme runs deeper than just png's. I just posted a completed update.zip for ZenEXP 0.9.6OC. All you would have to do is flash 0.9.6OC then flash my update.zip over it. Very easy.

This is how i have my phone set up disable all Haptic Feedback such as Keyboard and system,Disable System Updates HTC Software update,Gps off,switch roaming to sprint only so your phone isnt bouncing off and trying to find a million towers,use dark color wallpapers which most of the wallpapers i have added to the rom are dark,turn auto brightness off and lower to about 25%,use some sort of task killer i use autokiller on the android market,accounts and sync Facebook for Sense,Twitter & Weather set to updat every 3 hours and i think that just about sums it up.
I would also recommend Getting a 3500mah Extended Battery got it last week and i dont care what kernel i use i can go a day in a half with out charging doing everything you can possibly do on it, basically use the phone like its suppose to be used.

Yeah i used to Rock the HTC Tilt and i had Manila on it that was back in 2008 when i first signed up to this Website. Had Manila on it then i was running android on the tilt it was to laggy so i upgraded in jun 2009 to the Unlocked GSM Hero then resorted to the EVO june 4th 2010

Smooth as a babys ass huh yeah I wouldnt release junk to the community I've been running it for a couple of days to see how things went b4 I released
Well here it is,Smooth N Sexy. I'm a fan of Sense, its smooth and has great widets, however the stock rosie is no good and has to go. Alot of the mods in this rom I did not do myself. Im mostly responsible for putting it all together and alot of the visuals. This rom is what I like and I think others will too. Its easy on the eyes and pretty fast for a sense rom due to its Mikfroyo 4.5 base. Ill try to give credit where due, but if I leave you out dont hesitate to drop me a PM and ill add some props.
Big thanks to aamikam for the base Rom and I also borrowed your update script as I'm not quite ready to tackle that. Also big thanks to Myn I used alot from warm two point two as well. You guys are my hero's/inspiration.

No offense taken. Almost anyone could peice this together eventually. I just packed it all together so its easy to accomplish. If u check the op. All credit is given, and I mention the fact that I did not develope most if these mods myself. This is my current setup and I just wanted to share.

Q - Can I use this on any EVO Classic versions other than Ecstatic Finale?
A - Yes and No. Zipthemer mods can be used on any version. Flashable packs are specific to its version.
Q - I am running a theme, Will these tweaks mess it up?
A - If you download the flashable version, yes it will mess it up. If you are running another theme/mod, please use the zipthemer option of my mod that you are downloading so that you can continue to use your other theme.
Q - Will you make ZipThemer versions of your tweaks?
A - Yep! In the works! See attachments in OP.
Q - Can I use your modified files for a theme?
A - Sure, go ahead -- Just give me a heads up so I can link your theme in my thread!
Q - I flashed a zip, but don't see any changes?
A - Please be sure you are using AmonRA (recommended) -- also, WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE!
Q - Do I need to do anything before flashing?
A - Nandroid (Recommended but optional) and Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache

I flashed RCMix themed orange before classic and I loved the color orange. I know its too much to ask, its like a whole theme!

So you've read about the revolutionary theme engine in the ROM thread. But what exactly can you do with it? Basically, it allows you to alter some of the graphical elements on the fly, without needing to flash or even reboot.
Using Venom Tweaks, you can change the appearance of:
Statusbar icons
EQS icons
Battery icons
Sense icons
Notification shade background
App drawer background
These elements are all independent and can be changed to suit your tastes. So, you can use icons from different icon sets to mix and match your own personal theme.
But that's not all. Take a closer look at the screens where you choose statusbar themes and iconsets. You'll notice that each supported statusbar icon can be changed independently. So you like wifi icon from theme A, but battery from theme B? No problem, download both and mix it up as much as you want. You're only limited by what's available in the Hub.

So, you should have noticed the option, in Aroma Installer, to activate the Venom theme. Either you ticked it, and are basking in the warm RedVenom glow.
Or you didn't...and now you're wondering how different things could have been if you had just taken the other pill. Well, the answer to your questions lie here. The following screenshots will give you an idea of how the theme looks, in case you chose not to install it:
Basically, your choice of theme controls all aspects of appearance, apart from those listed in the previous post.
For example:
red highlights on notification shade
red lines on dialog boxes
red elements on checklists/tickboxes etc
red outlines on Dialer button presses
red keyboard
Graphical elements that aren't controlled by Venom's theme engine can be changed by switching skins, within the "Personalize" menu. Once you choose your preferred skin, you will nearly completely remove all the stock HTC green.
Homescreen and lockscreen "notification bubbles" remain green due to limitations in the current version of m10 tools

As if the ROM wasn't customisable enough, the ROM devs have also developed the Venom theme kitchen.
Really want some statusbar icons that aren't in the Hub. Or got a great idea for a set of Sense icons? Why not make it yourself and share it with others via the Venom Hub?!
We've put some themes in the Hub to get you started, but the aim is to fill it with user generated content. We've tried to make the tutorial as easy as possible, but if you have any questions, here's the place to ask.
Post your completed themes here, with a screenshot. If the theme looks nice we will add it with credits to the venom hub, so all users can download it from there!
One thing we ask though - ideally you'd be using icons you've created yourself. If you are going to use someone's else icons, please ask them for their permission first. We all spend a lot of our free time making these, and it's really annoying to see your work ripped off by someone else! I'm sure you'd all agree. If you used icons from the UOT kitchen, then say so.
If you want to try out the kitchen, but stuck for ideas check the To Do list in post 5. I'm sure someone out there would be happy if you managed to tick one of those off - I know we would be!!

OK I'm going to give icons a shot...please bear with me, I'll probably cover them in spray paint or something, I only have GIMP. And this is one of my first attempts at theming..
BTW - there are already 10 One S exclusive Statusbar Themes in Hub, which I finished during the development process.
Just a couple of tips:
Those who are familiar with compiling can certainly still do the job with their existing tools.
For pure battery Themes you can just grab one under data/app as template and use that as a working base
Never forget to edit package name in AndroidManifest and strings.xml and sign the apk with our kitchen.
Use our battery renamer, if you use UOT batteries as a base
If you`ve seen a nice Theme in our sister Theme thread over @ Sensation forum, just install the apk and report here how it worked with a screenshot. Sensation thread is active since a while and you might also find nice stuff already there.
If you only want to recolor stuff, but hit a wall since some pngs are indexed and look terrible, if you open them in Photoshop. You can fix that in batch with "Fastone Photo Resizer"
If you want to recolor many stuff in batch and you have Photoshop, but aren`t a Pro. Use actions to save what you`ve done to first png, then run the built in automate batch based on that recorde action. You can then grab a coffe, while Photoshop is doing your job

Since these are installable apps, you can without any risk try stuff from all devices (except Skins). In some cases a status bar theme might not be perfect from One X, but you can still use the battery icons. If they don't fit your needs, just uninstall like any play store app. The best fit is certainly if you mainly take those designed for hdpi devices. Skins for hdpi also work on One S, but these are a rare find anyway compared to Status and Sense Themes.
