Is there a way I can flash Recoverytouch without odin?? Need help so bad . Thank you - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

y cant u run odin

No there isn't because the alternative would be to use stock recovery and that won't let you flash the other recovery.
It's like trying to format the hard drive while your using the hard drive.

Is odin safe? Im scared i might brick my phone
Sent from my I727 using xda premium

It's safe enough. Make sure you read the instructions and then it's as safe as anything.

I went from Rsd Lite on Motorola to Odin and Samsung its really easy. Just READ

I've used terminal to push the recovery to the correct partition. You can follow the terminal instructions on this thread

Yes there is, by purchasing it through ROM manager.

Some of us use macs which doesn't support Odin. I used to run parallels but my partition got corrupted so I can't run windows anymore because the disk was a 1 time install. Long story short Odin is probably one of the easier things to use. if u can't use it than figure out how to use terminal and adb. If you follow the instructions you shouldn't have to worry about bricking your phone

Sent your phone to me and ill do it for free

Do you have to be rooted to run rom manager? Because you flash a new recovery with it. You can download from app store.

Thats how I got it.

I used superoneclick then Odin 3 and had no issues. I do wish that Heimdall would work as I always prefer to use apps from trusted sources.

ROM Manager and install the option for the T-Mobile version.

[Q] what recovery is use

for my phone i try the CWM from rom manager, but my recovery have the samsung recovery ? @[email protected]? and i has seen other talking bout cwd dont work and then im not sure but something call kG4 ??
i rooted my phone with the superone click but i cant get a recovery so i can flash ROMs on my phone ??
I recommend you to ODIN one of the customize ROM or KERNEL in the development session first to get the CWM ( most of the case it was integrated to the ROM or kernel) then you can flash any ROM you want.
Or use the cwm final thread in the dev section.

Rooting question

Is there any other ways to root my phone besides the "One-Click-Root" I think it takes to long and I want to root my phone fast. Does z4root still work on.this phone or will it just brick my phone?

Read relative links on the Bible link at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554 , especially those relating to using Odin to flash for the first time.
Odin is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=557757&d=1301649433
GB rooted kernels are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032, but you need to flash GB bootloaders through Chadsters KG4 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413 prior to flashing a GB kernel if you are still on Froyo.
You can also just follow FBis251's guide for getting on GB at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Froyo kernal ( Bali3.3UV ) is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871
Download and open Odin, pull battery from sgs4g, connect USB, hold both up/down vol buttons while reinserting battery....phone should be in download mode and show up in ODIN. Follow OP instructions for whatever Rom / Kernel you are flashing for which files to place where....don't change any options in Odin...just put the files in correct location and hit start. If you are on Froyo, then maybe start with Bali3.3 to get acquainted with Odin and the SGS4G
If you are not 100% on the process after reading the guides then I would advise to hold off and post your remaining questions on this thread to get the answers you need to be 100%. The whole process is very straight forward once you have done it a few times, but doing it incorrectly can cause problems.
Oh, and never, ever, ever use Rom Manager.

Silly rooting question.

So I'm wondering if there is an easy way to root from the phone? Or any way for that matter. I'm on a cappy with stock 2.3.5 and wow it sucks. Its my wife's phone as I soft bricked my phone trying to flash helly bean over firefly 3.0. I'm guessing I didn't have the gb bootloaders. Though with this phone I do have them and should be able to easily flash helly bean with no problems once its rooted and I flash the proper kernal.

I always go to 4-2ndtwin's helpful links in his signature and use either Odin or Heimdall to install a kernel that will allow you to flash roms. Then you can just boot into recovery and flash.
I think there is a mobile odin on the market.
Ill look for mobile Odin.

No, you dont need root to use odin. Make sure you read up and find instructions. Flash a kernel with root and apply via CWM and there you go.

Mobile Odin does require Root.
And nope, no way to Root just from phone.
But there is no need to get Root if u r just gonna flash a Rom anyway. U will however need to use Odin or Heimdall to flash a kernel with the CWM Recovery baked in. (i recommend KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A ). Once u have flashed that kernel, just use button combo to reboot into cwm and then install ur Rom of choice that u should have already copied on ur phone. Success

I agree that Odin is a good method, I did it that way, but I don't see what's wrong with using ROM Manager. Does it still allow you to use the power + volume buttons to boot recovery?
Edit: To stay on topic, yes it will work. Please follow the above advice and study more before rooting your device.

During the switch to ICS, there were multiple bricks due to trying to update through rom manager. Don't know if it's been fixed yet, but it's not worth the risk in my eyes, not when Odin and TWRP are so easy to use.

I'm going to put my $0.02 in and say, don't use rom manager. You're asking for trouble. I bricked a device playing with it. Odin and twrp or cwm are the way to go. And never, ever flash anything unless you know it's for your specific device.

Use ROM Manager only for fixing permissions on the Skyrocket. Will using it to install recovery work? Maybe, probably not. Is there any sense at all in using a method that has a very high probability of bricking you when there's a perfectly safe, viable alternative out there? No.
Check my signature out. "Read or brick" isn't just a catchy saying.

Yeah, there's no way. Unless he did use a compy to at least nvflash, then just download a rom using mobile browser onto SD card, grab a kernel, gapps if needed, and flash as usual. Done this several times using only phone, but of course the computer MUST be used for nvflash, otherwise, OP, you'll have nothing but problems.

You would know if you've used nvflash because you would have downloaded a small application to your PC, taken out the battery, pressed volume up/down simultaneously, installed APX drivers, etc etc...it's a pretty unforgettable experience. There is no way of checking except remembering whether you went through such a process.

Adam did not mean anything derogatory by his comments, don't misinterpret an experienced user's comment as negative feedback.
Now on to your topic, i do not believe you can upgrade your baseband without a computer. I would use lg's upgrader tool to do that. I don't know much about it as i was originally on 2.3.4 however i know theres a sticky on it somewhere. Check all the g2x forums and their sticky sections. You will definitely need a PC to do it
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I've checked all the methods posted such as the offline KDZ updater and they failed. most are XP specific and I'm running vista
Sent from my LG-P999
Yeah sorry not trolling, just trying to get an idea where you are with the phone. What exactly are you trying to do? Upgrade to 2.3.4 stock using the LG update tool? I'm thinking you should just download v10f from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274
The v10f should be the 2.3.4 if I'm not mistaken, and should be flashable from cwm. Make sure to use the instructions provided on that thread. It's a stock nandroid backup, so you have to use the backup/restore menu in cwm. Not sure you have to use a PC (you might be able to do the extraction it talks about in the instructions using androzip, not sure though)...
But what is your ultimate goal by doing this? Cm7 with the right kernel works so much better.
Sent from my LG-P999
Thanks Adam I'm going to save nandroid back up on my PC since i lost mine. Probably a good idea to have a stock 2.3.4 hanging around anyway
