Help T-Mobile is messing with me - HTC Sensation

Well I don't know if anybody else has had this issue but mine is with T-Mobile I think they don't like chrome beta or something because now when I use it I get shut out any questions

That's so strange. I'm able to use and answer questions in the forum... Are you sure the comments are not closed? If not I would talk to them and ask the!y are locking you out? It seems unfair. Maybe they have a answer for you.

It seems to be a glitch with TMOUS and chrome where it detects tethering. The latest statement from T-Mobile says that you WILL need to upgrade your plan to use wifi tethering with ICS.

Sounds like a rip off hmmmm upgrade to ics and now have to pay $15 to even use the phone total BS I guess I have to downgrade or get a different phone 0.o

Not a official update or problem with their update so they aren't going to do much for that yet.
As for the 15 it is only if you are tethering not for regular phone use.

my self i havent done any tethering in the 5yrs i have been with them this is a first even on the stock browser it does the same thing!

I had the same problem. Called up tech support and they told me to do the usual things like clear cache, clear chrome data, blah blah. At the end the person just admitted that she doesn't know what's going on and they can't provide support for 3rd party apps.
i suggested to her that maybe its because the new updated chrome uses a new user agent string, something that T-mobile detects for wifi tethering. She denied it, but I really think that is the problem since when I restored an older version of chrome, it works fine and I never get the problem

Do me a favor and see if you can view full pages in the stock browser. If it blocks those too then it's no longer a 3rd party app issue!

stock browser + older version of chrome both work fine

try viewing in desktop mode

I had a similar issue and it went away when I changed roms.

Its a push msg from t-mobile. it got them a little bit back. Happened on stock browser. My Tether still worked i think its a mistake i called when i got it and they said i had tethering on my account and it must have been a mistake. Wipe browser data and you should be fine.

[Q] WiFi hotspot

Ok i was wondering if rooting the phone would get around my gf paying the 15$ like i do with my myTouch, with using a native program? I know theres an alternative, WiFi tether, but is that blocked too? She already has a granfathered unlimited data plan. Let me know I'm not too sure about Samsung & At&t

I am like 99.9% sure that the infuse and refuse roms have wifi hotspot enabled by default so you don't have to change your plan. You might want to search in that forum to be 100% as Im sure someone has asked already

otherwise you SHOULD be able to use titanium backup to freeze the tethering manager apk. not entirely sure what the exact name of it is, but you need to disable that to let the built in tethering work (and to stop at&t from detecting some third party program tethering)
or yeah, you can install a custom rom (which already removed this little bit of at&t bloatware)
edit: tethermanger0326.apk is the apk (or something close to that)
Of course, after you do this, be careful with your usage patterns otherwise the Tether Police will still catch you.
Ok is there like a stock rom that's rooted & has those features? She's new to Android & loves the touchwiz. I'm an HTC guy so I'm not sure. I'm trying to keep it simple for her with the stock feel?

Do you/she want a new rom? Because the easiest and quickest way is to do the above mentioned of downloading titanium back up (paid version) snd freezing the tethermanager apk. Super simple and quick. Less work than doing the rom route... good luck.

No she doesn't, she doesn't wanna change anything but to get around shelling out 15$ for hotspot like I do on my myTouch. But don't you need to be rooted to freeze apps in titanium? Or could I root it, download Superuser & then do it?

yeah. you will need to root first (which is relatively easy for this phone, think it's just a oneclick thing).

Easy fix for that..
In your /system/build.prop add the following as the last line, make sure you hit enter at the end of the line, save the file and reboot.
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
it will lock the launcher in memory so it won't have to reload.
You need to be rooted to do this, and a good file manager is "es-file explorer" look for it in the market, and in its options, remember to activate root access an mount system as read/write.
If I have helped, please click the Thanks button.

OK, well, if you don't want to root your phone, then you will have to have a look at some of the Apps or widgets you have loaded, one of them is taking too much memory. Call htc support, they are quite good.
Only way to add that line in your build.prop file is if your phone is rooted so I can't help you.
Warmly, Marty

I have encountered this problem and a factory reset has solved it.
Are you using HTC Agenda calendar ? For me that was the reason. Try editing it and leave only the calendar that actually needs to be synced ie your gmail.
Thanks Marty. Pikabat, I do use that but I need all the agendas, outlook (exchange) for work, gmail for personal, and facebook just because why not if I can. I really don't want to not use a feature that HTC made, but did not look at how it can affect other applications/sense. HTC needs to give us an update and add that line Marty mentioned (if possible) .. Let me know if there are any better alternatives. Thanks guys!

You can still use the app though right? It's probably just the widget thats causing this problem.
Alternatively, you can use a launcher replacement like Launcher Pro. That's what I did because I got tired of dealing with it refreshing.

Nice Thanks for the tip
Worked Great !
did you install anything recently? I had this problem after installing swype, it would restart after every app install, very annoying
Try defragmenting your micro sd and checking for errors. I had a problem just this morning whenever I go to friend stream widget screen, sense would restart. I defragmented my micro sd and let windows check and fix errors, problem went away after that. Worth a try. Maybe it was just a coincidence though. give it a shot, what have you got to loose.
Try using a different skin (not provided by htc). look in the themes section, it should stop it or at least reduce it's frequency.
Same problem on my girls phone and was in the line with T-Mobile for 1hr one day and 15 mins the next and they are sending her a new phone after a hard reset and removal of the b of a app that suppose to cause all her BS
Oh and they also told me over the phone on the first time I called that HTC was aware and wouldn't trade the phone out for another. So I called 3 days later and I had the option for an LG g2x or another sensation ......... why the option I asked? She said it just popped up on her screen so I'm thinking there is a flaw with this phone. Let me know if anyone else falls in this category.

Ive been haivng this issue for a while now so was running another launcher.
Having read all the threads, I Did this...
Defragged the SD card and I also changed the theme/skin I was running.
It's a branded (ROM) Vodafone sensation, so I changed to the standard HTC theme/skin that looks the same.
And Hey Presto,
no more crashing at all. Not one since yesterday lunchtime.
So not sure if it is the skin or the defrag, but mine isnt crashing anymore at the moment.

Carrier Billing For T-mobile USA Disappears then Reappears

For as long as T-mobile has allowed it, I've always had issues with it randomly disappearing then appearing regardless of what I do. Just to confirm modifying wasn't the cause, I completely restored my device to its out-of-box state to no avail. I've cleared the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled, installed different versions of the market, etc but still nothing

App associations?

I've had my One S for about a week now, coming from a Nexus S. I was pretty blessed with the vanilla updates, but was excited to use the best yet Sense 4. But one of the few gripes I have about this stock ROM is that when I click youtube, instagram or other links that have their own apps, I have no option to "complete action using..." And it kicks me to the web browser every time.
Have you noticed this? If you have, have you found a solution? Or a workaround at least?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
I have noticed this, and I've noticed that when I click a Play Store link that it brings me to the web page instead of asking if I want to use the app instead. I've cleared defaults from my browser several times, nothing works. I'm pretty sure that it worked before, though, so I'm stumped.

What browser are you using? I downloaded the Chrome Beta immediately after setting up the phone so I have no experience with the stock browser. Are you using the stock browser?

This is a probelm with the updated Sense. App Associations only lets you pick a browser to open urls.
If any of you can call HTC or go and send them a report on their website it would help, I have a Rezound and the problem has been there with every ICS leak. I filled out a support ticket but don't have a One device.

This fix worked for me, in that it allowed me to open links to the market through webpages. However, it seems to create a new problem -- it breaks QR code scanners...
Looks like this may be happening on all HTC phones: http://androidforums.com/htc-thunderbolt/550016-app-associations-screwed-my-phone-up.html. From what I have read, this is due to the Apple lawsuit. Given that the lawsuit only dealt with US users, I wonder if European versions are having this problem.

Yeah, I started that thread over on Android forums.
I'm kinda glad to see that I'm not the only one having these problems.
I'm running a Thunderbolt. Just got the update (both my wife and I).
Now both of ours are having this problem.
I've searched and finally narrowed it down to the new App Associations section.
I don't think it has anything to do with which browser is used.
It just now forces all 'Web URLs' to use the browser as opposed to an installed app.
I don't know how extensive this is, and who all is going to be affected by it, but it's definitely a major issue. It destroyed the usability of this phone.
I'm can't root my wife's or my own phone. There's got to be a work around. Or they've got to be releasing a revised update. This couldn't have been done on purpose. The phone worked beautifully before, integrating all the apps that I had. Now everything I do is screwed up. Nothing is working how it's supposed to.
If it's any help...I have an HTC Thunderbolt through Verizon. Stock Rom.
Is this new App Association thing affecting all Androids? Is it something that was updated across the board, or only on specific devices/ or specific carriers? I've been banging my head against a wall trying to figure this all out for the last three days, and it seems like no one knows what I'm talking about, and my posts are invisible. I've been going crazy.

Looks like HTC got sued, so those of us in the US with an HTC product got screwed.
They are avoiding legal issues, be removing an Apple Patented process for detection of things which can open apps that are installed on the phone.
Without this, the phone is junk to me. It makes it wholly unusable and takes literally at least 3-4 times longer to complete my tasks.

There's not going to be an unrooted work around. You have some choices, but they all require you to learn to live with it, root, or get a different phone.
I am an angry consumer, and I punish companies that screw with me by not doing business with them, and encouraging others to avoid then as well. I've also been known to fire off an angry letter, or phone call to the offending party. Apple isn't worried about you or me, so that's wasted effort in this case. What's left is punishing HTC by not buying their products, but it's too late in both our cases, so basically call or write them telling them to "fu***ng pay Apple for the patent license and fix our phones". This App Associations bs ain't cutting it to keep us happy. Like you I don't want to root, but I think it may be the only way, unless a ****-ton of us tell HTC to fix it, it's going to stay the same.

If your custom rom is euro based, this makes sense. They were not part of the trademark infringement case brought by those idiots at Apple, so they don't have the app management workaround that is causing all the problems.
Does your custom rom have signal problems? As I recall, that was an issue being reported by tmous customers who tried some of the euro roms.

URL associations with apps removed from ALL thunderbolt, possibly all HTC phones soon

This is a widespread issue among thunderbolt users, but I haven't seen a thread here yet.
I haven't accepted the OTA update from earlier this week, but last night my phone booted with what I assume was a update. Now, any URL can only be directed to the Web browser, not an individual app (for example, Google play links link to the play website, not the app. Same with youtube links). There's not too much out there about it, but from what I've seen, this is due to a new patent lawsuit from apple directed at HTC. Apparently HTC laid down and just removed the function. This is terrible and pretty much ruins the phones functionality.
As of right now the only work around I've heard of is custom roms. Personally I don't have that option as this is a corporate phone. Has anyone heard anything or does anyone have any ideas for a work around? I imagine what would work would be a fake "browser" that you would set as the default and just would reroute to apps, but I certainly don't have the developing know-how to make such a thing.

With the HTC One series, there's a new "App Associations" menu that allows you to assign what apps will be used for various link types... is there no equivalent in the new OTA update for the Thunderbolt?
After the update there is that setting in the applications menu under settings

This is frustrating.
I updated to the software update and regret it to the fullest extent. Now NO videos of Youtube open in the app. This is a headache.
There is a new "apps association" menu in settings now, under Applications menu. But there is NO option to set YOUTUBE as a default like it used to be with ease.
Anybody here have a way around this??
What I found is using Opera Mini helps this by making it one less step to open videos in the app. But still miss the old direct way.
Help people!!
This is due to the patent judgment against HTC by Apple. The same judgment that recently delayed the release of the One X and the EVO 4G LTE. This feature will be removed in all future HTC releases.

You can't. Apple patented the tech, all they will do is go after a new developer of such an app. Your best bet is to root, run titanium backup, and flash a custom rom that is based on an older Thunderbolt ROM if you want the feature back.

That's not exactly some HTC key/core feature. It's in every Android phone and part of the Android source itself. Even the Galaxy Nexus does it. It's not even a phone specific feature. PCs have done it for years using file://some-local-filesystem-point and using sockets to link apps to other apps. That's all Android does pretty much. Since everyone should be rooted on here (the thunderbolt is painful if you don't), it doesn't affect anyone.
Also I see no source links in your post. Means nothing if you can't link to something verifiable.

If you like working without a safety net, more power to you. I'd rather be safe than sorry, myself

This is due to the patent judgment against HTC by Apple. The same judgment that recently delayed the release of the One X and the EVO 4G LTE. This feature will be removed in all future HTC releases.

Apple said they should be the only one to make a smartphone and they are using the patent system to their advantage. I don't like it anymore then anyone else. Perhaps we should all send a letter to waz for him to become.the.next apple ceo and chairmen. He also uses android
