Adblock for Standard Browser on One S - HTC One S

Hey Guys,
I couldn't find a thread about this particular issue atm so I'm going to start a new topic.
The only browser I could get an AdBlock extension for up until now is Firefox but Firefox does not appear to be as powerful as the integrated "Sense 4.0" internet browser (is it Opera?).
Anyway, I am quite bothered by random pop-up advertisement and similar bullcrap but I was unable to identify any feature in the settings that would let me supress it. Is there a "Firefox-like" add-on for the HTC-Stock-Browser?
Please help me...I freakin' can't stand pop-up-adds...kinda triggers an anaphylactic reaction in my brain...
Cheerios and thx in advance...

Forgot to add: Phone is rooted...

Try adfree in the okay store it removes ads from everything including apps

Thx mate! This looks very promising...

Using AdBlock from playstore on a rooted device. Works fine.

The free ADW launcher will get you most of the above speed and customization but does not have the advanced features.
As for adfree - it was not working initially on CM7 - drove me crazy until they got a work-around, and then adfree fixed their APP. Don't think I could stand Google Android without it.
On that subject, the XDA forum is getting bloated with ad and tracking cookies (on computer) stopped by my spam filter, so page loading is slower than molasses - anyone else notice this?

no dude !!Adfree does NOT scan web page for anything. It does NOT work like a proxy. It does NOT filter anything.
Adfree uses something called a hostfile to remap DNS names of ad servers to an IP address that is inaccessible. The default is 127.0.0.1 which is the identity IP address... I.e. your phone. The only way it would slow you phone down is if you've installwd something with a webserver on your phone

You can also download this host file from some of the windows support sites and it works perfectly on android tested it on my mytouch 4g, streak 7 and xoom. I think that ad free actually pulls this same file and uses it.
it goes in /system/etc
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
edit: it also gives a good explanation about host files and how they work
I think the phone is fast as it is...So far...

[Q] Remove advertisement

Hi, my name is crasher and I have a HTC Sensation. After reading and reading and reading stuff about rooting and putting a custom rom on my phone (believe me I almost used them all), I made the desision to use the ENERGY Rom. It looks great, feels smooth and does what it should do for me (personal opinion) but after a few hours I started to notice advertisment in my notification bar. I looked arround but can't find anything about removing these ads and to be honest, it starts to annoy me. I tried several ad blockers but none of the does the trick, can anyone help me out or do I just have to use another rom?
Greetz Crasherke
Sounds like airpush. Maybe a app you have downloaded. try the opt out app on the market
I am using energy Rom since long time I don't have any problem in fact it's my favorite Rom. I think the ad. U get is push notification from ur network provider.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Install airpush app from the market. It will tell you which app has that airpush ads embedded(xapush). It's not rom related.
Sent via HTC smartphone.
I'm gonna try it immediately.
Greetz Crasher
Ok, I installed the AirPush Detector app (free) and opened it. 2 Installed apps are detected and I removed them from my phone. I will wait for a day to see if the ads are gone. I keep you guys informed.
Thx for the quick reply...
Greetz Crasher
A few hours later still no ads or what so ever. It seems that my problem is solved and topic can be closed. Thx to all who helped me!

Dolphin browser on nexus 5?

I don't like wasting peoples time so I have searched and I can't find a answer, basically I am using dolphin browser on my new 5 and the double tap to zoom and the pinch to zoom don't work. I have cleared the cache and reinstalled but is still the same.
Are there any other 5 users having this problem?
Thanks again.

Has Dolphin been updated for 4.4?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516385
In that thread, a couple of people discuss Dolphin's pinch-to-zoom feature. Have you tried using Jet Pack with Dolphin? That seems to be what those users are doing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47215648&postcount=1
Says pinch-to-zoom doesn't work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47317755&postcount=41
Says Dolphin runs fine with Jet Pack installed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47350670&postcount=48
Comments specifically about the pinch-to-zoom feature working smoothly, and notes he has Jet Pack installed.
Thanks for the jetpack recommendation

Yes, the jetpack has been updated and fixes the 4.4 issues. Dolphin has been my goto browser for at least the past year. Every time I have tried something else I always return to Dolphin.
I had the same issue, I installed their Dolphin beta (it shows up as a different app in the Play Store) ..they have it fixed.

Wow this guy knows how to search and make me feel like a right plank!
Thanks very much for time fella, I have now tryed jet pack but still no work is. I guess I will have to try and get used to crome until it gets a update.
Thanks again.
The updated KitKat 4.4 update for Boat Browser and Dolphin Browser are now working on my Nexus 5 running stock rom & kernel. Dolphin with Jetpack runs nice in full screen mode but BB will not run full screen, feedbacks sent to developer via Play Store. Chrome does run full mobile screen.
Just a quick update I uninstalled both jet pack and the normal dolphin browser and then installed jet pack first and was prompted to install the normal browser from the play store and now tap and pinch to zoom work OK!
Problem sorted thanks everyone.

I just happened to be following that thread already, that's how I knew it existed. The search function is often very unhelpful on XDA. I have better luck using Google search and looking at results from XDA pages that way.
Thanks again for the help man!

I had a friend with a similar issue - I turned him on to HideNinja VPN and it helped him. It's the only thing I can think of that may help. I'd suggest closing all tabs for all browsers. Delete the browsers you can that you don't prefer to use. Restart the device, install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cryptninja.vpn make sure the app is configured and running properly, then try running your browser. Make sure no alternate settings in your browser could be created jumbling or smashing. Give the "Desktop Version" of the site a try too.

Ok, about chrome i found out that cyanogenmod's browser is ten times faster!!! And for the ADS i wasn't aware that those were intrusive ADS(i thought that the option block popup was broken XD ), so i want to recommend all of you to do this http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/blocking-ads-in-android/ scroll down a bit and you'll find a tutorial to create an host file, normal ads aren't blocked but the intrusives one i noticed that this little file blocks them very well

Browsers and....authorizations???

Hello XDA!
I come with a question. Being a human trying to make out the most out of my device, i tried countless of different browsers. Dolphin, UC, CM, Firefox, you name it.
There's something bugging me, though... Why does some of these browser ask for "strange" permissions? Such as writing/reading contacts, or caller ID, and the such.
I'm having an hard time finding a decent browser. Some of them are quite there, but not there yet. I'm looking for a browser with video player and adblock, nothing out of the ordinary. I've had Dolphin for a long time, but they screwed up the Jetpack app.
The one i tested and liked is the UC browser, but I am really concerned about all the authorization it asks, and somewhere in the net it has been tested and found positive to data leakage (i know, i made it sound like a disease, but you get the drift )
How about you, fellow XDA peers? Which browser are you using, and why?
