Hello XDA!
I come with a question. Being a human trying to make out the most out of my device, i tried countless of different browsers. Dolphin, UC, CM, Firefox, you name it.
There's something bugging me, though... Why does some of these browser ask for "strange" permissions? Such as writing/reading contacts, or caller ID, and the such.
I'm having an hard time finding a decent browser. Some of them are quite there, but not there yet. I'm looking for a browser with video player and adblock, nothing out of the ordinary. I've had Dolphin for a long time, but they screwed up the Jetpack app.
The one i tested and liked is the UC browser, but I am really concerned about all the authorization it asks, and somewhere in the net it has been tested and found positive to data leakage (i know, i made it sound like a disease, but you get the drift )
How about you, fellow XDA peers? Which browser are you using, and why?

Sorry if this has been brought up before, search didn't come up with anything though. I just saw on a few news sites some posts on the Skyfire browser (http://www.skyfire.com/) going into beta. Almost sounds too good to be true, basically a greatly improved Opera Mini. I'm not a huge fan of giving unknown companies my phone number to sign up for a browser I've never heard of, so I was just wondering...has anyone heard anything about this?
Skyfire
I've heard about it but as I understand it's in a beta test that's only available in the States so I've not been able to try it out.
Yeah only available in the US. I have signed up for the beta but you can't download it yet. looks pretty cool.
Can someone plz upload it here once it's available for download.
that browser jus blew safari, opera mini, picsel and IE or anyother mobile browser away..its freakin sweet cant wait till i get it..lolz..and its FREE
herez the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mWUoxiLZFc
OMG Finally
Out of all the App's that I have, that will be the MOST used. I have always been envious of the Safari browser in the iPhone. Now they will be envious of all of us 100% I can't wait to get my approval. Thanks for the post.
Kevin
Wow, that's pretty cool. Opera has been draggin their heels so long with Mobile 9.0, looks like they might get their thunder stolen again like they did with desktops.

C'mon on man... Thats a very bold comment to make without anyone actually touching it yet. Prime example: PoinUI... It looks sweet but is not as functional as it is beautiful. Just a thought

Why would you want to use Google Maps in the browser if Google has already released a pretty fully functional WM app anyway?
I signed up for the beta as well.. Hope at least someone gets in..

As a matter of fact I did see the video... and I still feel the same way: What good is a beautiful product that doesn't function? Kinda like the Titan right? it's got Rev A, But does it work? no. Your next comment will proli be "well what about 3.16?"... My rebuttal it's extremly buggy I know because I'm using it. But back on topic... My opinon... Dont get too excited about things that aren't available... again just my opinon.

Why is SKYFIRE still taking new sign up’s? If they can’t handle the volume they should take down the invite . I signed up on the first day and still don’t have it.
Do you use Google Chrome to Phone. I just read a review about it. Chrome to Phone isn’t a new product — I’ve been using it since May. Chrome to Phone is a simple combination of a Chrome extension and Android application that allows you to click one button in your browser, and sync what you were viewing right to your Android phone to be check out at a later time.
Reading a news article but need to head out the door to drive to work? Simply click the Chrome to Phone button on your Chrome browser, launch the Chrome to Phone application on your Android device at work, and it immediately takes you to the webpage you were viewing at home so you can pick up right where you left off. I use this feature all the time, and assume many of you would as well.
Google Chrome to Phone lets you easily share links, maps, and currently selected phone numbers and text between your computer running Chrome and your phone.
Very handy! When using your computer’s browser, right-click on an image/link & send that link/image to phone. I used it just now to send an .mp3 link of a 101Mb DJ set to my phone – very simple! Very little hassle…

If you are having problems with chrome in xda, first try running the browser in porn mode with your extensions off to make sure it's not one of them...
I had a world of troubles using adblock with some sites in chrome, and in the end decided i'd rather deal with ads then try to sort out exceptions for each of those sites.
I use Fox To Phone (Firefox version of Chrome To Phone) and it works beautifully.

I don't like wasting peoples time so I have searched and I can't find a answer, basically I am using dolphin browser on my new 5 and the double tap to zoom and the pinch to zoom don't work. I have cleared the cache and reinstalled but is still the same.
Are there any other 5 users having this problem?
Thanks again.

Has Dolphin been updated for 4.4?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516385
In that thread, a couple of people discuss Dolphin's pinch-to-zoom feature. Have you tried using Jet Pack with Dolphin? That seems to be what those users are doing.

Comments specifically about the pinch-to-zoom feature working smoothly, and notes he has Jet Pack installed.
Thanks for the jetpack recommendation

Yes, the jetpack has been updated and fixes the 4.4 issues. Dolphin has been my goto browser for at least the past year. Every time I have tried something else I always return to Dolphin.
I had the same issue, I installed their Dolphin beta (it shows up as a different app in the Play Store) ..they have it fixed.

Wow this guy knows how to search and make me feel like a right plank!
Thanks very much for time fella, I have now tryed jet pack but still no work is. I guess I will have to try and get used to crome until it gets a update.
Thanks again.
The updated KitKat 4.4 update for Boat Browser and Dolphin Browser are now working on my Nexus 5 running stock rom & kernel. Dolphin with Jetpack runs nice in full screen mode but BB will not run full screen, feedbacks sent to developer via Play Store. Chrome does run full mobile screen.
Just a quick update I uninstalled both jet pack and the normal dolphin browser and then installed jet pack first and was prompted to install the normal browser from the play store and now tap and pinch to zoom work OK!
Problem sorted thanks everyone.

Loving the new 5!!!
hey guys
i know this thread is unused for a while, but i dont want to open another one
on my gnex i was used and totaly in love with the aosp browser. with the n5 i had to live with chrome, which i really hate...
didnt find any browser that could suit me as much as the aosp one did
yesterday i found dolphin with jetpack... and what should i say? i am in love again!
except one thing
all web pages loading fine - facebook not
i can open up facebook and log in and get the entry page with the overview. thats it. if i click on anything, facebook loading circle appears forever
i do not have this issue on ANY other webpage. am i alone with this? couldnt find anything in google or xda about this
So I am using Chrome, and there are certain websites that it will not allow me to go to, I have tried Firefox, and Opera also, with the same results, so that leads me to think that it is a phone setting somewhere, does anyone know where this might be?
I came from a BLU Life View, and I didn't have any issues with them websites on it.
My first guess is your hosts file.

What browser is everyone using after the Lollipop upgrade? I was on Dolphin, but it's very laggy and no longer supports flash. Switched to Naked browser which is much smoother, but still no flash. Trying Puffin now, good flash, but a little laggy. Main reason for flash is almost no Facebook video will play without flash. Frustrating to have to turn on my PC to watch video.
Any other browser's any good?

If you get webpages that won't load after using adaway, that you feel shouldn't be blocked, you can add it to your whitelist.

CM Browser. I had some issues with it on KK but it seems they fixed it now. It's fast, has a nice UI, a fullscreen mode, a home button and an exit button. That's pretty much everything I want/need.
I actively use adaway. It seems to block ads in apps and in Firefox and cm browser but not chrome.

Try javelin. It blocks ads natively and has material aspects

There's a "get flash" guide thread in these n5 forums. Forget if its general or q&a.
I'm using Firefox. Is it just me or its actually slow compared to Chrome. It won't open links that readily load on Chrome.
I was a Firefox guy for the longest time, synced between my laptop, tablet and phone. But I've had it, I always put up with the lack of speed but it's just so frustrating. I can't believe reviews of Firefox when they call it fast.
I switched everything over to Chrome. The address bar isn't nearly as good as predicting what website you want compared to Firefox but it's much, much faster and I welcome that.

There's only one flash apk. Flash is unsupported on android. There will never be a new version again. We must always try to modify the ICS version.
Who knows if it will work on lollipop. I dont even think dolphin works on lollipop. Anyway, there is one apk and one guide only. If you know about it already. Then you know as much as everyone else

if you use data compression, adaway will not work. data compression makes chrome go through a different web server, thus, adaway does not block ads. opt out of compression in chrome and ads will be blocked.
