Do I have the Inspire 4G or the Desire HD? - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello all, I purchased an HTC Inspire 4G from Amazon and when I received it the first thing I did was check the model name. All was good, displayed "HTC Inspire 4G". After this though I noticed that the internal memory was 1.1 GB which seems to be the amount for the Desire HD (Inspire is 4GB). I then also noticed that when I took pictures, in the image info it displayed HTC Desire HD. When I use my phone with applications such as AirDroid, it displays "HTC Desire HD" as well.
What the heck do I have? Lol. I assume the seller sold me a Desire HD, but it has the AT&T logo on the back and came in an AT&T box that labelled it as the Inspire 4G.
I am in Canada on a different network than AT&T so I can't use the software update or anything.

if it says AT&T, then is the inspire 4G. 1.1 gb of memory is what it has available for the user..4 gb is the total mem. If you are running a custom rom, then it is possible to have the DHD label, but do not trust that. Check in menu>settings>about phone and see what it says...
Again, if you are running a custom rom, then what it says might not be accurate. AT&T does not sell DHD...

I have it rooted, but thats it. In the "About Phone" section it is listed as Inspire 4G. No custom ROM however, yet I will find the "DHD" label in random places. If I install a stock DHD 2.3.5/3.0 rom on the phone and it is actually an Inspire 4G will it muck **** up?
e. Just found info regarding my question, will see if audio, etc. works after stock DHD rom install. If not, will install the inspiremod fix!

Well I installed the inspiremod and now nothing audio or mic related works. Guess I do have the Desire HD. Sold me the wrong device. However I think it's common practice on Amazon.

Does the phone say HTC or ATT on the middle of the back? If it says ATT then it is an ATT Inspire 4G. If it says HTC then it is either a european model or a Canadian model. All Desire HD/ Inspire 4G have the exact same amount of memory.
If you are rooting and installing custom ROMs then it makes no difference if you have a Telus Desire HD or an ATT Inspire 4G. They are EXACTLY the same except for the logo on the back. The Inspire 4G will get 3G/H+ if available for Telus, Rogers, or Bell Mobile.

Inspire mod is for cm7 that's why it didn't work. You have the right phone

Doesn't the DHD have a front camera?

No. That round circular object that looks like a grants facing camera is the proximity sensor.
There is a major software difference between the two models. The inspire 4G has different sound files so if you flashed a DesireHD ROM without the sound files, there will be zero sound emitting out the phone. Almost all DesireHD Roms has the soundfix files built in and will check whether your phone needs them so it isn't something to worry about.

[Q] What is S-Off and what is the difference between Sensation and the 4g.

Hello every one, I am thinking of getting a Sensation so decided to ask you about 2 issues ;
1) I keep seeing S-Off and for the hell of me I know not what this is.
2) While attempting a purchase on Amazon for phone and accessories, I always see Sensation and Sensation 4g. I can guess that the 4G has the 4g network capabilities which I will not need (in Egypt we do not have it yet) but for accessories will it really matter or is it the same when it comes to accessories and only the protocol differs.
Thanks a lot for the replies.
Accessories are the same.
S-off is r/w access to the nand on which system recovery and boot are stored.
Thanks. So no I can purchase accessories without needing to worry. As for the S-Off I still do not comprehend. What is it again?? Is it the ability to read and write to the nand from the recovery partition. did I understand correctly.
There is no difference between Sensation and Sensation 4G other than branding. Both have the same HSPA+ speeds, T-mobile is just branding it as "4G". Sensation 4G is for USA, and Sensation is for the other parts of the world (S4G is locked)
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Pretty much. If s-off means nothing to you in terms of rooting your phone enjoy your purchase.

S-off means you can put modified software (ROMs) on your device and generally make it better. You have two methods to get S-OFF: xda way (revolutionary.io) or official HTC way. The xda way is better

in layman's terms, it's "rooting"your phone (ability to replace any and all files on your phone). Being able to do that will allow you the ability to change any visual aspect you can think possible on your phone, just about any kind of performance, over clocking your cpu, undervolting your phone, enabling faster charging times, extreme power saving abilities, even the ability top change the entire operating system to something completely different... Along with loads more you can do that were never possible "stock". Removing these chains can come at a risk if you don't know what you're doing so make sure you research before unlocking your phones full potential.
Thanks every one for your explanation. Highly appreciated. I will get it for sure then. Cya soon on sensation sub forums.
Get the sensation without the t-mobile branding on it. You can flash tmobile rom if you like after s-off and it would be the same as the tmobile version sensation 4G, unless you like the tmobile branding stamped on your phone

Hi skygear,
You and the user idavid actually posted contradicting claims You say the UMTS bands are _different_, idavid says they are the _same_ (several posts above yours). Can anyone actually verify what is actually the case?
Here's my phone - it's a T-Mobile Sensation 4G, and the website I bought it from originally claimed the UMTS bands were 900, 1700, 2100. When I got the box from them, the bands stated on the box were 1700, 2100, 1900 (in that order). I checked the website (newayci.com) again today and they corrected the specs to match those on the box, but in the carrier chart they claim my Sensation 4G won't work on Bell at all and only as 2G on Rogers - which does not make sense as Bell and Rogers use the same UMTS 1900 band.
So you see there's quite a lot of confusion, and it would be great if we could collectively clarify that. Is there any way to check it (except for getting a Rogers or Bell SIM with a 3G plan and putting that one in?)?
I am using the phone on Wind Mobile in Toronto, and it works fine, but I wasn't able to figure out so far if it will work as 3G on Rogers or Bell, who use UMTS 1900 band.
I posted the same question in another thread too, I'll report what I get from there (if anything).
Thanks in advance for help.

[Q] Unlocked Sensation wasnt too Sensational

Im fairly new to the phone game but i know a little bit. I traded my inspire to a Sensation, unlocked it myself. Everything worked finr except my Data i couldnt use the internet in any way. I called 611 (atts customer serv) and they said the connection was rejected. Luckily i was able to convince the guy i got it from to trade me back and give me the extra money i gave him for the trade. Was i just being a dumbass not knowing what to do or is this an issue. On the phone i went into the carrier and APN and it all seemed fine... Just curious because i would still like that phone but of course want my data connection Thanks
Also someone told me that unlocking/flashing phones will drop them down 2 data speeds (4G-2G/EDGE) Is this true?

Stop listening to ignorant people.
As for the problem you encountered, I believe you got the wrong Sensation. You need the Z710a for AT&T.
lianw is correct. Many of us are happily using the z710a on at&t.
Same guy as Smolt here for some reason it wouldnt let me log back in and after an hour of screwing with it and password retievals..... Well here i am... How do you tell the difference between the 2 Sensations? Did you have to call611 and give them the imei # to use data?
Ive got a post under my newly given moniker, if you find the time check it out. Any help is greatly appreciated and always thanked
So you traded the Sensation back to your original phone, so you no longer have a Sensation, and you still want to know why you were having problems?
People don't waste your time trying to figure out his issue, he doesn't have the phone anymore to try and fix it.

Because not only are people wasting their time on answering your question, but you are also cluttering the forum...who knows, you may never get a sensation again or have the issue if you get the correct sensation and this thread them becomes trash.
unless the sensation supports the at&t 4g or 3g bands, you're limited to edge. that's what happened to me when i was using the inspire on t-mobile.
I think only bell or Virgin(from Canada) Sensation have 850 frequency, it is working fine on Rogers with 3g or HSPA after unlock(which i think it should work on at&t as they are using the same band). I hope this could help u a bit. T-mobile sensation doesn't work on at&t because it doesn't support 850.
I'm using the bell sensation z710a and get ATT 3g speeds with no issues.

Rogers ROM on AT&T HTC One XL

Was wondering if we can put Rogers ROM on AT&T for 2 reasons.
Turn off LTE and tethering.
Can anyone with Rogers confirm they have tethering ability. Also do you have to pay extra for tethering with Rogers.
I bet AT&T will block those.

Confirmed! We have tethering enabled(free) as well as the option to turn off LTE.
As for loading the Rogers rom onto the AT&T handset, I don't see why not other than maybe some differences in what 3G/4G LTE Bands are made available. Rogers and AT&T are very close in offerings though. Don't know if there's any relation nowadays, but they used to be partners a good 10 years ago here in Canada. I think Rogers bought them out of their wireless venture. Fun fact of the day. Minus the fun
Anyone has an unlocked rogers htc one xl phone that also has an att sim card can do a test if att sim card will get lte speed with rogers rom?
The Radio firmware is a separate image from the system rom. Once we have a Rogers RUU, you should be able to flash the boot.img and system.img from that without worrying about altering the way your radio connects to the AT&T network.
So what would be a better choice? Att handset with rogers rom or rogers handset stock rom. I just want to be able to tether sometimes without att giving me trouble and turn att off. Since i will be getting out of contract... Price for the handset should be the same.
The only difference between the AT&T model and Rogers model is the ROM, so it really wouldn't make a difference. Go with whichever option is easier for you.
(I accidentally thanked your post. Enjoy it lol)
Just a quick question for you HOX Rogers owners out there, does the rogers version include any Rogers bloatware? or splash screens?

Oh hey, you're right. I never noticed.
It only appears for about a second or two before the "Quietly Brilliant" screen.
ummm it doesnt matter which ROM your on... ur still going to get charged for tethering. ATT looks and sees whats connected to their netwok (ie a PC) and will see you're tethering. As far as 3g/4g toggles, wait like 2 weeks for some custom ROMS.
Can AT&T peek into a custom ROM like say CM9?

The thing about the bloatware is it can be disabled in settings-apps under "all" tab which is nice if you don't want them loading and updating all of the time, but they still take up space.
For those that don't know, I didn't when I first found this out, you have to first uninstall any updates an app may have before the option to disable it shows up.

If you don't go crazy with tethering then they won't bang you for it. Yes, I briefly used the rogers rom and it unlocked tethering as well as gave the option to turn off lte, however I have gone back to the updated att rom 1.82 and hacked the stock tethering app to work just fine. This rom is ultra smooth compared to the Asian or Rogers rom.

I believe that's where I found it. Beware, you can't go back to a past build after updating to the latest att leaked rom. That doesn't bother me because it's so much smoother for me, but just giving you a heads up. Search for sqlite editor...that's what I used to edit the proper files for att hot spot to work. [Q] HTC Sensation XE 4G?

Hi to all,
I don't see any thread regards the possibility for a 3G phone into a 4G.
Maybe its a silly thought, can it be possible?
does to days phone have the same chip or chipset for a 4G, may be its disabled?, or need to have a 4G simcard?, or is it if you want a 4G phone, you need to buy new phone all together.
Wait to hear your thoughts.

as far as i know 4g is available in USA and in UK, so we are talking about LTE, our ordinary Seny doesent have LTE mobo installed. And ordinary Seny have same mobo as 4G - LTE module
Thanks for the reply dublinz.
So LTE and 4G are both different systems? does this mean for a 3G network phone to be close as a 4G it becomes an LTE?
Ok let me rephrase my question from my first post. Let say there is a
HTC sensation 4G and a HTC sensation XE with beats audio(which is dead at the moment). As you know other HTC devices didn't have the capability to have Beats Audio, know nearly all HTC's phones have that function thanks to the Dev teams.
Now, for the 4G or LTE, can it be emulated in a 3G phone so it can use the 4G networks. Let say some Dev team see what chip or software in a HTC Sensation 4G which is present, and it can be emulated in one way or another, or make some kind of a virtual software to have the 4G in a HTC sensation Xe for example.
Wait to here you're comments.

Your logic will be plausible if Sensation 4g doesent have extra module (hardware part) on its mobo. So Dev cant create virtual LTE board (my opinion), otherwise trust me HTC will implement it (you know fight for the buck ) You probably heard that Sensation 4G wont have ICS upgrade until June, it is down to LTE driver that create problems….
If you're talking about the 4g that T-Mobile claims (hspa+) then the xe has it as does the international sensation as does the T-Mobile sensation.
As for 4g-lte or 4g-wimax (sprint), no sensation has a possibility of even emulating this. It's just not built into the SoC.

[Q] Problem with HD Voice on HTC One S

I have an unlocked Telus HTC One S that I am currently using on Rogers. A few weeks ago, Rogers released HD Voice to a select list of devices. I was excited to see that the HTC One S (PJ40110) was included. I cannot figure out how to enable my phone to use it. I am aware that for it to work, you must call someone with a HD Voice ready phone on Rogers. My bro has an iPhone 5 on Rogers and HD Voice has been working for him (sounds awesome). Any ideas on what I can do? My connection jumps from 3g to H not a stable 4g. Could this be a reason why?
