Just use Swiftkey. It has no arrows and has great prediction.

It doesn't have the swype feature though.

I went ahead and downloaded swype to replace the HTC keyboard. Why? Namely because the HTC keyboard's trace feature didn't work in certain places (browser URL bar for one) and I had some issues with the way it added a space and didn't, seemingly on a random basis. I guess some words are good enough for a space and others aren't?

Through the normal Swype website. The resolution issue is a real one. When you install it it works fine, but one you restart the phone, that's when you'll see the resolution problem. There's a thread about it somewhere in the One X area.
I've seen the resolution issue, all I do is just reboot swype using the swype installer when it crops up, then it goes back to normal. As far as I'm concerned it's not a major issue (unlike the multitasking) to me.

Email on HTC Thunderbolt Completed
We have just released an update (v. 2.0.5.120) that should fix this issue for you! Please check the market in a couple of hours by which time the update should be available
Sarah Reynolds
Frontline Support Lead, SwiftKey
The update (Version 2.0.5.120) is now available on the Market AND NOW on Amazon. If you got this on Amazon before yesterday, be very careful that you don't 'upgrade' to the older, white version. If you got the new, black SwiftKey X for free on Amazon yesterday, Amazon may not yet say that you have an upgrade available but if you uninstall and re-install SwiftKey X you will get Version 2.0.5.120 which works with the HTC email app on the ThunderBolt.
Way to go, Sarah & James!
Thanks, Robrecht
So what was the issue?
I thought I was doing something wrong... Glad it was a glitch.

how much ram does it use? Never paid much attn. More or less than swype?
I can't ever seem to get the keyboard to minimize when I'm done typing.

have you tried swiping down the keyboard (that is how you close it).
I have the same issue takes a few swype downs for it to close. The other problem I have is my text always appears behind the predictions on facebook and in forum runner.

Long press on the Menu button toggles the keyboard on & off.
Thanks, Robrecht
After the last update was added as in the Swype function. Simply select your keyboard in the system "to track the text." Good thing.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean? And as a Swype user am curious.
Something great in Swype is when you swipe your finger from left to right across the bottom left two buttons on the Swype keyboard, you get a great new keyboard with cursor keys and copy, cut and paste functions.

Yes, but on my phone its not working. There is no change or a other keyboard when i write a sms. There is no change.
You have to enable it in settings - it's called Trace
I've been using trace keyboard for a year since i bought ds. It's not new
Anyone who has used both trace and Swype (or Samsung trace) could they please give their own opinion of which is better and the real differences as i've used
Swype for long tone and love it

Frankly, I don't see a difference or if there is, what the big deal is. I've been alternating between Stock & Virtuous Unity; lately, Endymion as well. If there's any big leap in Swype, I simply don't see it. I need enlightenment!
just updated my sensation to sense 4.0. am not really a big fan of the new keyboard with the directional arrows below. i don't really see an option to remove the arrows or an arrow-less version and i make too many mistakes with the default ICS keyboard. can anyone recommend me a good keyboard to use?
thanks!
Smart Keyboard Pro. Hands down the best keyboard I've ever used. That, or the Swype beta.
Also interested in this.
I got a little fed up with swype typos. seemed like it didn't take grammar into account.
I'm a very fast, but sloppy typist.
Ultimate death of me: V or B instead of the spacebar, rendering typo correction useless and throwing it off.
Having some fun with swiftkey x though. I'll take a look at smart kb pro.

Swift Key hands down. Though I haven't used it again after trying Sense 4.0 keyboard, this one is so smooth and overall great

Swiftkey X - Been my keyboard of choice since my Desire days.
it quickly learns keyboard and language usage and prompts the next most likely word. Saves ages when typing "Just got to the station see you soon XXX" type stuff. All I type is Just and the rest is prompted for me (with a few options and variations)

Gave thanks.
Best damn thing I've ever typed with. Really helps out.
My issue with Swiftkey X was that I'm just too sloppy.
Thumb Keyboard helps that from what I gather. Bigger keys = less typos = more accurate predictions.
How the hell have I not been using this before. Wtf.
Swiftkey is nice unless you have to type in different languages ! (In my case it's Spanish, Catalan and English :S). If your case is like mine go after SmartKeyboard, has a button to switch between dictionaries easily and you can personalize the space bar to make it way bigger (my main problem was clicking , or . instead of space ALL the time U_U)
Luck there
@xhighalert I know what you mean. That's how I felt when I started using it back in December.

Same here - on pretty much every keyboard for some reason I'd always hit CVBN instead of space. Split Portrait Compact mode on Thumb Keyboard has pretty much solved that issue.
i tried thumb keyboard, looks really good but for some reason i'm still getting the damn arrow keys below it. this is on the default htc keyboard. does anybody know how to get rid of them?

Anyone know if there is a way to install the stock ICS keyboard on the AT&T One X? In videos I've seen of the HOX, the built in keyboard looks dreadful...especially with those navigation arrows that take up the entire bottom row of the keyboard. I loved the stock ICS keyboard when I had the Galaxy Nexus so is it possible to install it?

I'm talking about getting the official ICS keyboard...not a port by a developer to mimic it to the best of his ability.

Yes, I think Tim Hutt has it, all he did was remove dependencies so that it would run on all devices.
Thanks. So far so good. No FCs. And it doesn't bring up the keyboard menu in the notification bar
I can vouch. I just installed it on my AT&T One X and it works 100%. So much better for me since it's similar to the iPhone like numbers, symbols, etc location being on the left side vs the right side.
I was typing so slow due to this. 100% better now

I don't know why you guys are going through all this effort when there are already ICS stock keyboards that have been ported that are available on the Play store.
I installed this one and it works great.

I totally agree, this one is in my opinion even better. Out of the box the default vibration on keypress is a little strong but if gives you the option to lower the strength to be closer to the stock ICS keyboard.
In advanced settings I changed the timing from 100ms to 25ms and its perfect.

Exactly, I set mine to 28 and Im good. I didnt like having to hit the extra key just to get to the question mark and I kept hitting the arrow button instead of the space bar.
I became frustrated with the latest Swype Beta and tried downgrading to one of the 3.26.92.xxxx versions of swype. I downloaded 3 different apk's from around the web. At first they weren't wide enough so i did the screen rotation trick to get it full width in portrait but the keys still aren't tall enough.
Has anyone found a solution to get a downgraded version of Swype running on the One X with the correct key size? There's another thread in Q&A that points to a dead thread in swype forums.

Whats wrong with the latest beta? I can check to see if I have a older titanium backup saved if you'd like.
After the fact capitalization, word deletion, adding words to the dictionary are more cumbersome. Plus there are some annoying bugs about punctuation to space bar swiping.
The Swype beta forums have a number of threads about these issues.
A backup of a 3.26 build would be awesome, thanks!
