"Swype" HTC - HTC Desire S

After the last update was added as in the Swype function. Simply select your keyboard in the system "to track the text." Good thing.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean? And as a Swype user am curious.
Something great in Swype is when you swipe your finger from left to right across the bottom left two buttons on the Swype keyboard, you get a great new keyboard with cursor keys and copy, cut and paste functions.

Yes, but on my phone its not working. There is no change or a other keyboard when i write a sms. There is no change.

You have to enable it in settings - it's called Trace

I've been using trace keyboard for a year since i bought ds. It's not new

Anyone who has used both trace and Swype (or Samsung trace) could they please give their own opinion of which is better and the real differences as i've used
Swype for long tone and love it
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium

Frankly, I don't see a difference or if there is, what the big deal is. I've been alternating between Stock & Virtuous Unity; lately, Endymion as well. If there's any big leap in Swype, I simply don't see it. I need enlightenment!

[Q] HTC trace apk rip?

With the sensation rom dumps going around, I'm wondering has anybody ripped an apk of HTC trace
My swype beta is linked to my old phone and I really miss it

I ripped it out it is build in the stock keyboard to bad it doesn't work. Been trying for a month now.

Anyone had any luck yet with this. Youtube clips shows promise with this keyboard.
Swype is overated in my opinion, i find the old shapewriter much more accurate and faster to edit on the go but it looks boring and isnt supported anymore.
Hoping Trace gets supported to the point it becomes more accurate and is a viable alternative to Swype etc
I removed HTC Trace on my Sensation for Swype 3 beta.
I find Swype much more accurate and faster.
Shapewriter is now SlideIT on market, I'm using it now. With your swype problem, u can just register with a different email
What do you mean it's linked to your old phone? If you're a beta tester you can log in to your email, install the swype installer, log in and install swype. I've done it on 3 phones already. I actually installed it on the third just yesterday
Make sure that you aren't just copying the apk from one phone and trying to use it on another

I had the same problem before bones. I couldn't change me device from nexus one. So I just do another email.

SlideIT is different altogether and developed by Dasur. Its not bad and the new 4.0 has skin support finally.
I know Shapewriter is actually now FlexT9 but still it is different. ie/ Shapewriter has smarter editing options, click anywhere on the word to edit it or double tap backspace to delete that word and other shortcuts. I also like the emotcon available on the front page. Also typing 2 words, joining them and then saving that word is also handy, just little features like this that makes Shapewriter so good.
Im yet to find a trace style keyboard that is faster and Swype is average in speed in comparison (thats including the newest Swype version which ive got as well)
Hi, just wondering if it would be possible to remove the direction arrows on the trace keyboard. seems like a wast of space to me?

What do you think of the inspire's keyboard?

What do you think of htc's keyboard? It's decent, but does anyone else think those arrows are a waste of space? i wish i had a smiley key too , and i find the space key too small, i keep pressing the "." all the time , i switched to the gingerbread keyboard but i REALLY miss the bilingual prediction , thats what keeping me from dropping the htc keyboard
Same as the egos
But then again I use smartkeyboard pro skinned to droidx

You can use inspired ace from gtg465x. You can flash a no arrow keys add-on.

Better keyboard..check it on the market
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I like the Inspire keyboard, but in portrait mode it is to small and in landscape it is to big. Any suggestions of one similiar but just a bit smaller? I'm still stock, so it would need to be installed. Is there an apk file for the gingerbread keyboard?

I absolutely HATE the stock keyboard! I usually end up having to re-type everything 2-3 times because the "autocorrect" grabs the wrong words. I can't stand the way shifted characters change positions on the screen if you press the "12#" key.
I'll be the first one in line to buy a "Inspire 4G Shift" if HTC adds a slide-out qwerty keyboard, much like they added to the Evo.

I have all prediction, correction, completion turned off. I'm just needing a keyboard with a better feel size wise. It would be nice if there was an option to size the keyboard.

is that the keyboard form the htc sensation?
Why not just install the older HTC sense keyboard? It is identical but without the arrows, and it has the Smileys button. Over in the nexus one forum is where i get it.
I like the keyboard, the arrows are unnecessary but they don't bother me
Is there any good keyboards in the market?

Swiftkey is nice. Recently got flex t9 free from amazon market and liking that one as well.
I like the arrows. They come in handy when you need to navigate to different fields. But support for that is kinda spotty. And I agree, key board is too big in landscape mode. Makes the rest of the screen unusable, at least its got a handy hide button.

Coming from an iPhone, I like the keyboard on my Inspire much better than the iPhone and easier to use.

Keyboards for the Sensation

Hello all,
Is their a better keyboard for this phone? I really dont like the ones it comes with. Also what about the spell checker? Is that part of the keyboard program?
What ones are you using?
Thanks

Once you go Swype, you never go back.
If you don't like Swype style, try the Gingerbread keyboard on the Market.
Smart keyboard

I've always liked the Gingerbread kb! But, Smart is also cool...
I only use swype when I only have 1 hand available, but I mainly use gingerbread keyboard pro from market cause I can make the spacebar super big on it (I normally miss it when it's small lol)

Is there a keyboard where you could turn the phone sideway and it shows you the keyboard as well as the screen? I don't like how it only shows you the keyboard.

Better Keyboard 8. I previously used it with the I/O skin & it could splitscreen.

I tried all the rest, used Swype for a year, then switched to SwiftKey. Best keyboard hands down. You won't regret it. Free beta on the market.

For me and for now I use the flext9, which is powered by dragon. But I already paid for it a while ago. But I suggest use what others have already said. Try the beta swype for yourself and see if you like it. I have used swype and would get pissed at it when it got buggy...yes I know its a beta , but I would go to another kb. The GB kb is great for a plain jane kb, also, swiftkey X beta works well too.
If I were you, I would try all the free versions of kbs, starting with the most popular to what you like and narrow it down from there.
Smart Keyboard Pro. I've had it since my Nexus one days, and it's still the best.
Thanks everyone, I will check them all out after work today.
I wouldnt mind also trying a new browser, any suggestions? I know a little bit of whats out there but still learing.
Thanks again everyone.
only swype ... still best //

SwiftKey is very good at predicting text even with fat fingers
As far as the browser goes, I prefer opera.

Tried both and don't like either. For certain reasons i have been using Smart Keyboard. Just my opinion as I always have searched for the ideal KB with manual customization, enlarging buttons, increasing haptic, etc...
If swift has all of this, then maybe I didn't give it enough time however I don't like hopping around.

You can enlarge the buttons in smart keyboard? How? I would like to use the entire space so that the buttons actually are touching each other instead if having small spaces in between them.
I need a keyboard with arrow keys, so far smart keyboard is the only one that does the trick for me. Sense and GB keyboard both lack it
I actually use an old version of "shape writer" that is a non market app that I found either on xda or android central forums.
Easily the best swipe style keyboard I've ever tried. And I've tried a LOT

GB keyboard. i like the arrow keys.
Sorry for late reply. (SMART KEYBOARD).
Settings>general settings>key height(there you can manage height & width).
And if needed there is an option to pad the bottom of keyboard for "added lift ".
1 of the best features, are the addition of free skins in options. Just one tap and you can have almost any other keyboard variant.
Side note-Not sure if "pro version" varies as I only have this.

keyboard alternative to stock sense 4.0?

just updated my sensation to sense 4.0. am not really a big fan of the new keyboard with the directional arrows below. i don't really see an option to remove the arrows or an arrow-less version and i make too many mistakes with the default ICS keyboard. can anyone recommend me a good keyboard to use?
thanks!
Smart Keyboard Pro. Hands down the best keyboard I've ever used. That, or the Swype beta.
Also interested in this.
I got a little fed up with swype typos. seemed like it didn't take grammar into account.
I'm a very fast, but sloppy typist.
Ultimate death of me: V or B instead of the spacebar, rendering typo correction useless and throwing it off.
Having some fun with swiftkey x though. I'll take a look at smart kb pro.

Swiftkey X - Been my keyboard of choice since my Desire days.
it quickly learns keyboard and language usage and prompts the next most likely word. Saves ages when typing "Just got to the station see you soon XXX" type stuff. All I type is Just and the rest is prompted for me (with a few options and variations)

Gave thanks.
Best damn thing I've ever typed with. Really helps out.
My issue with Swiftkey X was that I'm just too sloppy.
Thumb Keyboard helps that from what I gather. Bigger keys = less typos = more accurate predictions.
How the hell have I not been using this before. Wtf.
Swiftkey is nice unless you have to type in different languages ! (In my case it's Spanish, Catalan and English :S). If your case is like mine go after SmartKeyboard, has a button to switch between dictionaries easily and you can personalize the space bar to make it way bigger (my main problem was clicking , or . instead of space ALL the time U_U)
Luck there

Same here - on pretty much every keyboard for some reason I'd always hit CVBN instead of space. Split Portrait Compact mode on Thumb Keyboard has pretty much solved that issue.
