Support for the tb? I'm a new tb owner coming from the incredible. I'd rather root it that way than adb. Plus i have a mac. Adb is too labor intensive for me. Last time I tried rooting with adb was with my Eris and that was a headache.

Well golly gee! That looks way easier than the method I had to use for my Eris a couple years ago. I think that I'm no longer discouraged... Thanks fellas...

I had hesitated as well but the manual method turned out to be easier than I was expecting. Just recheck ever command line carefully or cut and paste.

It's not going to happen. The rooting and S-OFF method is too complex and REQUIRES user intervention. No software is going to do that.

That's just ignorant and/or elitist. So someone not already familiar or comfortable with setting up/using ADB shouldn't be able to benefit from rooting? My father doesn't know anything about how Linux or Android work, should I have told him to just deal with the bloatware, etc.? Don't be such an ass.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I dont think he meant that to be mean but its true if you don't have the slightest understanding of what your doing to your phone when you root it you are setting yourself up to mess something up. I'm way new to this and I spent hours and hours over two weeks reading everything I could find so I knew what was going on. And when I went through the process I was comfortable and when I couldn't get the custom firmware to flash I had the knowledge to figure out my silly mistake without freaking out or messing up my phone. But bottom line if you aren't willing to educate yourself enough to be comfortable with the things you said then no you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

In short, folks who root yet don't understand rudimentary things like adb are the same ones who are 100% reliant on others to fix their device when they break it.
Or, they perpetrate a fraud and dump it on Verizon.

I'm thinking about starting developing ROMs for our beloved G2x.. Actually, porting, since I can already manipulate a Stock G2x ROM and what not.
But in my case, I'm going to focus on porting over ROMs from mainly the Optimus 2x and the Atrix 4G (Motoblur).
Optimus 2x
It shouldn't be too hard to port over a Optimus 2x ROM simply because the two phones are almost exactly the same. I read a thread that said as long as we don't flash a Optimus baseband, we should be fine. I'm I wrong in that mentality?
Atrix 4G (Motoblur)
I'm thinking about using a Atrix 4G ROM as a base for a Motoblur port (I know it can be done since it's been done on the Nexus One and myTouch 4G). Since both phones have a Tegra 2 processor, it shouldnt be as difficult as porting from OMAP to Snapdragon but it will be very difficult overall.
I'm looking for input and pointers from Devs and stuff before I start officially working on it tomorrow. I will be posting periodical updates depending on my progress and what not.
If I'm not mistaken, this phone should be nearly impossible to brick unless I flash the wrong radio/baseband right? I know my old myTouch 4G had that rule. And I flashed the hell out of it with my test ROMs (even though I never officially released any) and it never bricked. I hope that's the case with the G2x. We shall find out soon enough though!
I will make a new thread on each ROM after I can get it to boot.
Updates
Ahh, finally everything is back in order. I ended up losing my previous progress which wasn't a lot, but was a good start.
It seems like 11.04 doesn't play well with Virtual box additions which are very important to me. Time to try 10.04!
My Ubuntu installation somehow isn't booting. And I'm taking this weekend off starting tomorrow to go camping. I'll try to get it up and running and work a few hours until midnight. Then continue on Monday.
Many thanks in advance, looking forward to the ROMs.
u will find the optimus 2x rom slightly annoying. getting it booting is easy though...more than easy

As far as I can remember, the reason it doesn't work isn't just the baseband, but also that it has different partitions. I think that's why there's a thread on how to restore the partitions on a bricked

Check your serial number, if it's >B70 then it's not rootable. Yes they are working on it but it's been almost 2 months and nothing. Appears to be locked down in hardware and thus not by-passible via the usual tricks of the past. Most likely it's because of DRM if I had to guess.
If your serial is B70xxxxx check it anyway, some of the B70's may be rootable if they still have the older SBKv1 ROM (or whatever it is).
Mine's going back (B80 serial) - it's a dead duck.
I suggest you return it and get something else so you wont clog the forum with the same stupid questions that have been asked hundreds of times.

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.

The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.
