Is unrevoked3 working on... - Thunderbolt General

Support for the tb? I'm a new tb owner coming from the incredible. I'd rather root it that way than adb. Plus i have a mac. Adb is too labor intensive for me. Last time I tried rooting with adb was with my Eris and that was a headache.

YouTube it bro. There's a guy that goes step by step. Its hella intimidating but if you can follow directions then you'll be fine.

do what that guy says. youtube it. i have a mac too and theres a guide for mac owners which was extremely easy

try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027836

Well golly gee! That looks way easier than the method I had to use for my Eris a couple years ago. I think that I'm no longer discouraged... Thanks fellas...
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

I had hesitated as well but the manual method turned out to be easier than I was expecting. Just recheck ever command line carefully or cut and paste.

I was nervous about ADB on a Mac too but I followed step by step and have successfully rooted 2 bolts.

It's not going to happen. The rooting and S-OFF method is too complex and REQUIRES user intervention. No software is going to do that.

That's just ignorant and/or elitist. So someone not already familiar or comfortable with setting up/using ADB shouldn't be able to benefit from rooting? My father doesn't know anything about how Linux or Android work, should I have told him to just deal with the bloatware, etc.? Don't be such an ass.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

I dont think he meant that to be mean but its true if you don't have the slightest understanding of what your doing to your phone when you root it you are setting yourself up to mess something up. I'm way new to this and I spent hours and hours over two weeks reading everything I could find so I knew what was going on. And when I went through the process I was comfortable and when I couldn't get the custom firmware to flash I had the knowledge to figure out my silly mistake without freaking out or messing up my phone. But bottom line if you aren't willing to educate yourself enough to be comfortable with the things you said then no you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

In short, folks who root yet don't understand rudimentary things like adb are the same ones who are 100% reliant on others to fix their device when they break it.
Or, they perpetrate a fraud and dump it on Verizon.

Key combo to get into recovery doesn't work.

OK so since I got my ns4g a couple months ago.
The key combo has never worked...
I had to use either rom manager or advanced command to get into recovery.
Since I first flashed aosp ICS rom.
And Koushiks, adb stopped working... I'm still able to mount USB mass storage and move files.
But no adb and no key combo???
I'm kinda getting worried now.
I'm a chronic flasher and am fearing potential brickage due to this.
I'm a pretty advanced user but in no way more than that.
So I can't self diagnose this one.
I've searched a bit and so far haven't seen a reason or fix.
Oh and I'm currently on tsm pool party rom and apocalypse talon kernel.

Agreed. It takes a lot of reading, and sometimes trial and error (with a good portion of patience).
I had a friend who tried to flash and thought he bricked his phone, after hours and hours of trying to fix it. Gave it to me and after a little while more got it fully working.
It's pretty hard to brick these phones, and it'll almost never happen if you follow instruction (probably like 99.9% of the time you won't brick).
Once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy.
i don't think you really learn until you brick(soft). Thats how I did.

What Else Is There...?

Okay. So I rooted, have CWM and have tried several custom roms out there. But what else is there I can do that'd make my phone really awesome? I know the developers and Linux guys that know infinitely more than I ever will could possibly chime in here and give some ideas of some other cool stuff, I just don't know what else to fiddle with.
Something like this may have very well already been posted, but I was just thinking about all the customizations that one can do with Android -and am opening up discussion for folks to show off and/or discuss things to tweak the customizations available...

I've been wanting to do just this, and luckily have already gone down the soft bricking road, and have my fxz to fastboot flash if need be. It was suggested to me to download Ubuntu and familiarize myself with that. I'm still unclear on adb and android sdk -I have installed on my laptop but no idea what I'm doing. But, I wasn't trying to get mini-tutorials for my lack of knowledge with this post, I'm just curious as to what others are and have done to further make Android "theirs" through customization. So, with all the troubles the HTCdev site is having, im left without root. I was just curious as to what sort of nifty things you guys would use an unrooted phone for? Sideloading is nice... but im half tempted to continue playing with my cracked Inspire until i can root.
You don't have to use HTC Dev unlock to unlock your phone if your a smart programmer you could use an exploit and root it that way ADB is great for higher access to the OS you could combine an ADB Shell with a Android API call repeater (.apk that allows you to make API calls) however that would be complicated...

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.

The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.
