I'm sorry, just to clarify I'm just a bit hesitant, I'm relatively well versed in the advantages of rooting, I'm just trying to be clear as I'm new to this forum and would rather be humble than assuming.
Please forgive my badly phrased post.

Agreed. It takes a lot of reading, and sometimes trial and error (with a good portion of patience).
I had a friend who tried to flash and thought he bricked his phone, after hours and hours of trying to fix it. Gave it to me and after a little while more got it fully working.
It's pretty hard to brick these phones, and it'll almost never happen if you follow instruction (probably like 99.9% of the time you won't brick).
Once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy.

i don't think you really learn until you brick(soft). Thats how I did.

Htc evo 4g temp root for OTA Gingerbread Achieved !!!!!

Well Well now who's the little blood sucker's now? I posted a few questions about two days ago and was bashed buy a bunch of little 13yr old and even seniors member's on here. I was sat back and got a huge kick out of it. Anyways as always I work alone away from most of the FREAKS on here. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!
Anyways after many hours working trying to get temp root on the new Gingerbread 2.3.3 OTA Update! I was successful in creating a working Temp Root!
This was done with the help of a very good friend that wishes to remain anonymous. I also seen many people are giving away a reward for the person who figures a way to gain root on the device. My response to that is keep your damn money I don't want it and my friend don't either. So if you all are thinking this is a way to retain the award your WRONG you little maggot!
We don't want anyone's money let alone your's. The temp root works and is very easy to achieve! I will be posting the guide in about 35-45 mins for other's to achieve this temp root on the HTC EVO 4G!!!!
For them little pricks that sit on their asses and wait for a Root and don't even give to the xda community but will leech and whine about everything make me sick. I'm so tempting to not even post the guide and let you pitiful bastards suffer and burn in hell and be miserable while I enjoy my new Rooted Device. Then my friend said what about the ones that have spent countless hours for the love of the EVO. That's what changed my mind so what now?
It's 7:25 my time and I'm going to begin this simple guide for those who deserve this root. It should only take me 30-45 mins to explain how to gain Temp Root on your HTC EVO 4g with the New OTA Gingerbread Update with S-On........
Congrats if you got it. Look forward to reading everyone's BS in the new thread!
I still have my launch day evo so it wont really help me at the moment.
I hope you just edit this thread to the instructions or put on your flame suit again.
if you really did acheive temp root, mad props bro...

Thank you for the effort. Some might read this and feel that you are coming off as a jerk, but I am sure you are just very excited. I am sure that like me and the countless others that check in multiple times per day, seeing all the awesome regularly updated ROMs, all you want to do is get the most out of your Evo. Congrats to you and thank you for sharing.
There will always be haters and nay-sayers no matter what the issue. Shake em off! Great job on your success. I am in need of this so I will be following this thread very closely. My rooted Evo had to be replaced and this new one has 2.3 on it sucks being unrooted ugh. Great job again.

[Q] ICS ROMs on Charge

Since we can't use a ROM manager to flash, does anyone know of any of the developers having a "md5" file available to be flashed with Odin?
MD5 is just a hash used as to check data errors - basically to make sure you're not flashing an incomplete or corrupted file. I gather you're asking if there is an Android 4.0 based ROM that can be flashed on our phones? The answer is no. It's being worked on, but currently the best you can do is to make sure you're on the most up to date release for the Charge (EP4D) and then flash an ICS theme and then change launchers to ADW or Go Launcher and install an ICS theme for the launcher.
Thanks for the information. That's what I figured but I was trying to be optimistic. I am currently running Humble 5.0 and it has been great. I have the inability to stay stock and am looking forward to having ICS. Especially since I am so far out for an upgrade and don't have copious amounts of cash lying around to buy a Nexus out of contract. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Just keep in mind, "being worked on" means there is an attempt being made to get it booting. IF that happens (which is by no means a guarantee), there is still a lot of work to do to make it fully functional. I wouldn't expect to ever have ICS. If we do, that's awesome. Just don't expect it.

That Awesome Force Close Is Back!

Well, I finally did it - back to stock. Just had too many issues with the roms, although they were super fun.
I thought, "Well the stock Froyo didn't have any issues from what I remember..."
Except all the force closes. It's amazing. I remember now how bad it was.
And yes, I'm rooted.
What can I do to fix these? These random force closes are brutal. Other people must be dealing with this.
Thanks!
Unroot, and just run. It sucks, im forced on it until i trade mine in. Trust me, it gets soo laggy makes the phone look like its a piece of junk. Im trying to get out of this brutal life to go to some *ahem* delicious snack builds.

First of all, THANKS for the reply.
I'm wondering if this is a Titanium Backup issue. I get a TON of single vibrate than three-vibrate signals followed by a mobile manager close (or other force close). I always use TB to reinstall my apps after a rom flash. I only do app reinstall (not app + data)
But the one-vibrate followed by three-vibrate, that happens all the time.
Just like the first responder said, the lag is INSANE even on stock froyo and the force closes are frustrating.
Should I re-go back to stock and just never use TB and install all apps manually? Or is there a way to figure this out? Because if so, I can shoot back up to a nice ICS build.
THANK you!!!
I use TB regularly... best $$ for an app I spent...if your just gonna settle for stock why not go with qkster one clicker... to stock ?
I backup and restore regularly no prob...

Please don't assume anything. As someone who had a computer repair business, I can attest to the fact that sometimes hardware just doesn't play nice no matter what you do. Or are you one of those people that think hardware can never be at fault?
My phone had the same issues with any rom I tried. And no, I wasn't doing anything wrong. I tried installing from rooted stock, did all the wipes and formatting, but every time it eventually became glitchy. So far, stock works fine for me, so I'm sticking with it. There's obviously something about my hardware that doesn't agree with the updated kernel/software.
Samsung made millions of these phones. Do really believe that every single one will work perfectly with software that wasn't intended for it in the first place?
Short answer, no. Everyone was just trying to help. We see a ton of these threads saying there is a problem only to find out someone made a mistake or skipped a step.

When someone goes around saying it's definitely this or definitely that, yeah, I have a problem with it. You're implying that there's no chance of it being hardware related. That right there shows how much you really know.
Btw genius, my phone never ran 100% perfect from the start. I suppose that was my fault because I took it out of the box wrong?

Hi guys - no, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be running GB or ICS without the force close issues.
Maybe my second post got lost among the, ahem, spirited debate but I would love some assistance.
I'm 99.9% sure I reflashed back to stock correctly. Then all I did was a recovery with TB (app only, no data). I've read elsewhere this could be the culprit.
Any ideas? This force close and lag thing is driving me nuts. Plus it hinders any roms I flash for GB or ICS.
Thank you in advance!

Help unbrick....

So yesterday i was running cm9 and i decided to flash a rom...i went into recovery and wiped and cleared every thing just like normal. When i rebooted the phone the samsung logo came on for about 5 seconds and then the screen when blank. So i thought i was just flash the stock image and start all over. So when i opened odin and it looked like everything was working just fine then it stopped.the first part was going through like it was supposed to then i seen the fail sign.... I have some pics that i have posted to show you guys what happened.. I been ripping my hair out of my ass all day since last night.... Please help.... I would hate to have a $600 paper weight... You can't expect people to be super helpful to everyone that screams BRICK after not following directions. The boards have been bombarded with thread after thread of people not reading and not paying attention and just flashing blindly since the bootloader was unlocked.
This is exactly why Verizon does what they do, because they know there are more people that DON'T know what they're doing and DON'T read than those that do and take the time to read and meditate on it before getting flash-happy. The people who don't read are the ones who commit insurance fraud and pawn these devices back on Verizon.
To the OP: Consider this experience a lesson in reading before doing anything, absolutely anything. Double check, triple check, ask if you are unsure of the method BEFORE hand rather than after. Post in the correct section and wait for someone to help you out of the mess you caused.
I'm sorry if I'm being rude, but I'm really sick of seeing so many threads about people who don't listen.

Actually it's laid out in steps and very easy to read. All you have to do is read. If you don't understand something, ask. In the mean time, you could research it. It's nobody's fault but their own if they're impatient and don't feel like researching while messing with their $600 device. There's no excuse.
People go through a lot of hassle and free time writing stickies and guides to these steps. Don't tell me it's not laid out clearly.
I agreee. the steps are there, the information is there. I accidentally almost bricked mine because I did steps out of order but was able to recover just by reading threads and searching. Anything I don't understand, I back away slowly from.

The information here is only clear to people who have put in a lot of time reading, and searching for clarifications. ...but the reality is that for a newb, it is extremely confusing. For example, the terms ROM/kernel/radio/modem aren't not used consistently through the forums, and even some of the more seasoned people mis-use them time to time.
We have this notion that spending hundreds of hours trolling the forums and threads is some sort of badge of honor, but in reality it only speaks to our own lack of entry level guides.
I'm not expecting you guys to revamp the system, I'm just saying we need to be more tolerant.

What do you mean you get no help? This isn't your first time posting to the wrong forum and you've gotten answers every time. Don't lie and say you've tried Q&A and gotten no help.
Post under where you got your download, you can't just say sorry and just clog up our threads with your issues, you don't own it you know. We all have had or have issues at times. Doesn't give you the right to just post what you want and where you want. You need to be flagged and banned!
You are a butt hole, a sweaty salty nutty butt hole.
Please read forum rule 15 if you are not sure where to post

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

You'd be amazed how many people flash hboots for HTC devices without verifying MD5 sums. That one time there is a bad upload and you will be up the creek without a paddle.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

It seems like those of us who actually do their homework before rooting their devices are decreasing.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.

The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.

Haha don't take it the wrong way I don't mind helping but when people post a question answered two posts above them or create a thread for a question when one exists and is still on the front page, those are where I get annoyed. Also when people don't at least try and search first. You can always tell if they have searched or not.
I try to be helpful though long as you tried first
