Since we can't use a ROM manager to flash, does anyone know of any of the developers having a "md5" file available to be flashed with Odin?
MD5 is just a hash used as to check data errors - basically to make sure you're not flashing an incomplete or corrupted file. I gather you're asking if there is an Android 4.0 based ROM that can be flashed on our phones? The answer is no. It's being worked on, but currently the best you can do is to make sure you're on the most up to date release for the Charge (EP4D) and then flash an ICS theme and then change launchers to ADW or Go Launcher and install an ICS theme for the launcher.
Thanks for the information. That's what I figured but I was trying to be optimistic. I am currently running Humble 5.0 and it has been great. I have the inability to stay stock and am looking forward to having ICS. Especially since I am so far out for an upgrade and don't have copious amounts of cash lying around to buy a Nexus out of contract. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Just keep in mind, "being worked on" means there is an attempt being made to get it booting. IF that happens (which is by no means a guarantee), there is still a lot of work to do to make it fully functional. I wouldn't expect to ever have ICS. If we do, that's awesome. Just don't expect it.

I didn't think you could give this kind of reply on xda? Aren't you supposed to say something about being tired of noobs not using the search and end by telling the guy to port ICS on his own?? If you don't, who (besides 100 other users) will?

He caught me at a moment of weakness.
I did do a search of the other forums before I posted this thread. I may be a noob however.I'm not an idiot and nor will stand to be treated like one. I posted the thread because I could find nothing addressing my specific question regarding a "md5" file. I appreciate Charlie_c getting back to me with a simple response and the subject was done.

If LG were to release ICS on the G2X? I see devs making great ROMs for it yet are hindered by a lack of drivers, which I assume would be part of an official ICS update. Any devs care to comment?

Not really. Pricks like him are abundant on forums, even the respected forums here on XDA. Still, just saying "what isn't working now will work" is not enough. With those broken features working, could devs be motivated to step up custom scripts and mods that go beyond even what's available now?

Respected forums? Xda? Maybe like before Android, not anymore now.
A lot of people are just disappointed with the same questions being asked like 5 times when you could just click a page or 2 back and see the same topic already discussed.
We just need an active moderator for these forums to merge the redundant topics together.

I don't know, I got my ass warmed for spamming, but then they hired me to spam professionally. I'm not trying to start anything, mt3g we've been down that road, accomplished nothing. Anyhow, my question is, and I understand basically, but why do you guys worry so much about people starting new threads? Its not using any storage space that would affect any of us. When a new thread is started, no matter if there's a thousand just like it, it promotes social gathering and in most cases, usefull information. But(never start a sentence with this), when you guys run your cruisers down here and go Gestapo on the op's, that's even more useless than the duplicate thread. Now, instead of a duplicate thread with new and useful information, its a duplicate thread with new and useful information that's been cluttered by flamers and rent-a-thread cops. Does it make sense? I'm really trying to be professional here, but guys, listen, I was a mod for 2 forums prior to working for XDA and I'm gonna tell ya, playing forum God got old within 5 minutes. You don't know our mods are not active, I got disciplined when I screwed up. Maybe you're wrong about starting new threads?Buru, I really respect you and your work and I really don't like disagreeing with you. I hope that I don't jeopardize our getting along. It just needs to be said that there are as many people fed up with the vigilante moderating, if not more, than those fed up with duplicate thread starters. Look at it like this, has any of the thread copping payed off? No. Did anyone active in thread copping become mod or get hired? No. Now, do I really need to say anymore? Just look at all I just cluttered this thread up with.......... thread copping........, unproductive. If you disagree with me, that is your right if you live in the united states, this is XDA, I don't care if you disagree with me, you don't have XDA signing your checks.
[email protected]
And I could care less if they do sign yours, I'm not trying to mod or be a cop, I would like to come to a forum that I enjoyed for about 3-4 years until lately. This is the sloppiest and most unorganized phone e section I've read... the MyTouch 3G and G1 are still modded it seems, the O2X is incredibly controlled... the tempo and mood would be a lot better and here from a lot of members some would stick around and others wouldn't leave. I'm surprised whitehawkX came back and EaglesBlood is still here... if I'm that big of a problem the mods will come and say something to me and I will behave but until then.... deal with me I guess.

G2x
How did you get any of that from what I said? Quote specifically please, and I will reiterate what was confused... I would never want that! That's the only reason I'm still with the g2x, I'm saying the repetitiveness of useless threads ("how do you update baseband, and how come I hear these noises when I call someone after installing this rom, I'm coming from 2.3.4 I received yesterday.") anything of that nature is what's wrong with this forum.

I'm coming to the G2x from a few other Android phones (LG Optimus V & Motorola Triumph) and it was hard to find the relevant and important info here even though I've written guides & developed for other Android phones before.
There's no need to depend on moderators, just a default thread to point everyone to with a FAQ section (maybe eventually sticky it or put it on the top of the stickied thread). Then it should be updated regularly by a person with good writing skills. or even a wikipage on github that a select few can update so the burden isn't on one person. Anyway I know it's towards the end of the G2x's lifecycle (until official ICS maybe), so none of this may matter, but just suggesting for future reference. Good, clean, & simple documentation prevents a lot of repeated questions.

Well, before rooting is always good to check that the device has no hardware issues. Try doing a factory reset and see what happens. Try pulling the sdcard and see how it behaves for a day.
If is still misbehaving, then take it to warranty....rooting will not fix hardware issues. Then, when u are sure that no hardware issues are the cause of the problems, come and visit us in the IRC channel in my signature...the Hack Kit is still there....

Also if I'm allowed to put my two cents in here... but charge to 100% and as it dies check the percentage if it reboots write down the percent. Do it until it dies fully charge it and repeat. If the numbers match up its the battery I had bought this phone used. It rebooted at 96% and 42%. Got a new battery and no more random reboots

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.

It should work. Why not try it yourself and see whether it works or not and then report back in that thread?

Towelroot suits me fine. Anybody care to answer the original question?

I answered the original question. It shouldn't be used and the reason why is mentioned in the towelroot guide by the thread OP so do yourself a favour and read it instead of acting like no one answered your question.
...and if it suits you fine, just bloody use it and answer your own questions instead of creating pointless threads.

Helpful response and no you didn't answer the question I asked you answered something YOU wanted to answer. This could be a problem for you in later life I reckon......

Right so the fact that towelroot no longer works properly does not answer the question "will towelroot work"?
Ha ha oooooooook
ps I'm already later in life.

The question was 'Will towelroot work after latest update?'
Your answer was 'There are issues with towelroot anyway. Root properly. '
And you really dont see why I have a problem with your answer. Not matter how many times you try and post it ,you have not answered the question (Vin4Yak did make a reasonable attempt to answer in that 'it should work'. I can accept that)
Then to take this futher I'm yet to see why Towelroot 'has issues' or 'no longer works properly'. I've headed over to the 3700 post thread about it, and still I'm yet to see anything telling everybody to stay away.
I'm aware my bootloader is still locked and potentially with root I could screw my phone (and due to no unlocked bootloader could be in big trouble), but I'm quite happy being in that position.
If you fancy posting some usefull info rather than direct people elsewhere with vague answers then feel free , otherwise thankyou for your post but it hasnt helped so you might as well not have bothered.

Since L has not been released the correct answer to your question is, maybe. Does that make sense?

Towelroot doesn't work before the update. It wont work after the update. The guide in General (where all our guides are) that is not 3700 posts long explains why,
Or just try it yourself. The update is 100% irrelevant. It has not patched the exploit, but it is not the exploit that is the problem. Its SuperSU that is the problem, again - which is all explained in the guide, over in general
Right got the thread now. I've posted in there. Thanks

What is with forum culture that makes people against linking to other threads they are discussing.
Just post a ******* link to the thread so every other user that see's your post can easily find what you are talking about rather than searching high and low through the whole forum - i.e. 'over in general', do you mean Nexus 5 General, or XDA General? It's really not hard to just post a LINK. Once I found the 'guide in General' I could find no other info on towelroot - http://puu.sh/aHF5u/524526b849.png
Sorry to be rude, it just really grinds my gears - it's not hard to link something if you know where it is and saves everyone else loads of time.

Not to be rude, but rule number one is to search. You agreed to that when you signed up here.

Fair point.
However, it is widely accepted here that the search function of this site is mediocre at best. Just do everyone a favour and post a link rather than taking the moral high ground.

I may know where to find something but it takes me time to find the thread and copy the link. Why should I take my time to do that? I'm not the one who needs it. If the poster can't take his/her time to do that so be it.

We usually take a "give a man a fish, he can feed himself for a day. Give a man the means to fish and he can feed himself for a lifetime" approach.
I purposely do NOT give links for things that are sticky threads. If there is a sticky thread in General, "over in General" is a sufficient description to find the information required. If I give every idiot who asks a question a single link, he will not notice all the other glorious sticky threads that we here in this forum put much effort into answering as many questions as we possibly can without devoting our entire existance to repeating the same answers over and over... and over.
We take pride in our stick threads and once someone sees them, a wealth of knowledge unfolds. Knowledge we willingly pass on. If we simply give everyone a link, all we will be doing is linking the same person to different things all the time. We're being helpful without being detrimental to ourselves.

No, as I said I refuse to post links to obvious threads that sit where all the other obvious and important threads sit. Don't get all aggressive here.

Search is easy to use. Posting a link is as easy as going to general and typing "towelroot" into search. You're ressurecting an old thread. Towelroot is not a favoured solution, so it is no longer stickied.

If you're sorry to be rude, why are you being rude at all. Sorry is taking back something you didn't mean, yet edit does the same thing so you're not sorry at all. You have an attitude and you want to show it. Fine!

I don't accept that. I find everything I want in search, if I know the search term to use. Even in Tapatalk. Failing that, google can serch XDA very well too. This is just an excuse. The bigger picture is that the true favour is not posting a link. Heroin addict is in pain, needs a hit. Posting link is buying him the hit. Not posting the link, or better yet, sending him to rehab is the better favour.
You admit there is a high ground then?
For all those who say the search is mediocre - I find it perfectly fine and easy to use, 9/10 times I'll find what I'm looking for if I know it exists. Maybe you're just doing it wrong.
