[Q] OTA update? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got a 3113, rooted. Was greeted this evening with an OTA update (no info on the update regarding version numbers). It's currently 'postponed' as i can't find any reference to it anywhere and i don't want to lose root.
Has anyone installed it? Is it safe? Or am i just being overly cautious...

Download root keeper and apply. Then your golden!

upgradeing after rooting phone question?

I have a HTC inspire 4 G with a stock rooted rom and I received that there is a system update. So my question is do you go a head and let it do the update or do I have to find a new rooted rom to apply with the update. Also if I let it do the update will that unroot the phone as well?
I'm fairly sure this has been answered, and a quick search would give you your answer, but since I need to get my post count up in order to post in the Dev section, I'll tell you that the update would likely fail, it doesn't run on rooted roms. You can flash the updated stock rom, but that will definitely undo your root.
What a wonderful way to increase one's post count!!!!

[Q] Maintaining Rooted Phone Up to Date...

Hello All;
I am new to the smartphone world and I recently rooted my TB with a Stock Rom; now that I am rooted how would I maintain an up to date phone?
Is there a way to sign up for new update notifications from this site, or do I need to keep up with blogs, chats, and the internet on my own?
Note: I have had two questions that I posted on this site and both of them have been answered/very useful.
Thank you all in advance!
I may be completely mistaken but I believe it is up to you to watcth the forums and find a blog to follow.

Up to date according to Verizon or the developers here? XDA is pretty much bleeding edge in terms of radios and operating system updates.
Ok, this what I need to know. Thanks!
Ok, thanks. I just dont want to fall behind the ROM race.

Now that your rooted if you want to remain on a rooted stock rom, just wait til you see a blog on here about a new thunderbolt update (MR2 for example)
Then give it a day or 2 for someone to release the update in a rooted version, in a thread in the thunderbolt development section that looks like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160374
[ROM] Official 1.70.605.0 MR2 OTA Deodexed Rooted Busybox
which is for rooted users follow the directions on flashing using cwm and then flashing the new radio file if there is one, through hboot.
you will then maintain root while still getting the latest ota's.

Thank you for taking the time to explain to me the process; direct me and I will take it from there.
Unfortunately you're going to see a number of old threads for ROMs with dead links. Most of what you're going to need is here. The newest radio isn't, that I've seen. And I'm not sure there's any gingerbread builds based on the newest leak are here either. If I'm wrong, someone correct me. If you find a locked ROM thread, just Google the name.
Glad you've joined the community and we hope to be as helpful as possible.

i9023 - OTA on Jailbroken Phone fix?

Hi there,
I'm having a little trouble with my phone.
I originally updated and rooted my Nexus S to Android 4.0.3 back in March, however due to stupidity, I updated my phone with the Vodafone AU OTA update which was released a few weeks ago.
So my question is:
Can I update and root my Nexus S to Jelly Bean? If so, how can I do it?
Also, are there any dangers with doing so? (Root - OTA - Root again)
The tools I used were found on the Nexus S Hacks site.
Any help would be appreciated
James
I just got a System Update notification for Jelly Bean. Not sure if I should go for it.
Can anyone please give some advice on how I can re-root my Nexus S
Really need some now guys

I haven't tried this, but why not give it a shot? go to superuser app and look for an option to keep root after OTA, it may/may not keep root, but if it doesn't work, just follow the post above. good luck!

[Q] Advise for rooting

Hello all and thanks in advance for your help. I just purchased a Nexus 5 on Sprint YIPPE. My main purpose for posting here is to see what is the best option for me. I want to stay as close to stock as possible. I am looking to get tether access on my phone, without being to invasive. I tried foxfi and could not get it to work on an unrooted phone. I also want to be able to get updates to KitKat when they are released. I am guessing that I just need to root, but do not have to unlock the bootloader?
You cannot root without unlocking bootloader. Go to general and read stickies. There is a root thread and an ota thread. All you need to know is there
Edit > this is already in general. Please post questions in the q&a forum

unlock bootloader, root and then in superSU make sure to check survival mode. Keep everything stock if you want to get updates, but keep in mind OTA may not work, you may have to manually install updates. You can read more on that in this forum.

[Q] Will My Nexus 5 Get OTA Updates After Rooting?

Hello XDA Users,
I want to know that will my Nexus get system updates after rooting and unlocking the bootloader of it or I have to install them manually with recovery.
Thank You
You will have to side load them. This will most likely break root.
