Hi there,
I'm having a little trouble with my phone.
I originally updated and rooted my Nexus S to Android 4.0.3 back in March, however due to stupidity, I updated my phone with the Vodafone AU OTA update which was released a few weeks ago.
So my question is:
Can I update and root my Nexus S to Jelly Bean? If so, how can I do it?
Also, are there any dangers with doing so? (Root - OTA - Root again)
The tools I used were found on the Nexus S Hacks site.
Any help would be appreciated
James
I just got a System Update notification for Jelly Bean. Not sure if I should go for it.
Can anyone please give some advice on how I can re-root my Nexus S
Really need some now guys

I haven't tried this, but why not give it a shot? go to superuser app and look for an option to keep root after OTA, it may/may not keep root, but if it doesn't work, just follow the post above. good luck!

In attempting to root, I ended up putting 3.01 on the Xoom by accident because I had the 'Stuck at Motorola logo' problem. Now I'm back to the Xoom desktop, but I have an older version of the OS and the OTA update won't work. I want to get back to my 3.2 glory and I don't care so much about rooting anymore.
So if anyone has any tips to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I've searched around but I can't find the answer to this one.
Xoom
3.0.1
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-g2a4197e
[email protected] #1
HWI69
But I know I had a different Build Number all the way up until I had the Motorola logo stuck screen.
Thanks In Advance!

If you are completely stock and unrooted, you you should get the OTA updates. Being unlocked is OK, so don't relock, because if you decide to root later, unlocking again would cause you to lose all your data.
Does anyone have a link or know where I can get the Nexus S software before Sprint released their latest update? I thought it was Jelly Bean update as most of Sprint users have been waiting on, only to find out it was a Sprint " update"
Without going into much detail, I would like to go back to the software it was when the Nexus launched.
I don't have root access, nor do I want root access at this time since I use Google Wallet and don't want to risk my personal data
Does someone have the Samsung software I could download? Perhaps I could root flash back, then unroot?
Any help would be appreciate as I have searched and not finding any real answers. If you have some info please message me or post here.
Thanks

Hey folks..
i bought a TF300T a couple of weeks ago which i updated to Jelly bean so i was not able to root it ..
Now i got it switched to a new tablet because it was " DOA ".. so that was pretty lucky..
Now i have the TF300T with ICS and the Jelly bean update waiting for me..
Anyhow, this time i want to root this thing and install custom roms on it..
Problem is i cant find a guide nor anything on how to root it and update it to jelly bean and still keep root / CWM..
the only guide i found was one done with the US update..
Can anyone give me a guideline to where i should start?
EDIT: Do i have to unlock my bootloader to root?

Ok, When you say that you can't find anything on how to root, or guidelines and etc...
It's false, cause I think that you haven't really search on this specific forum.
On first, click on my sig (the Index for the TF300T/TG) and you will find all you need.
and finally you need to search and read a little. It's easy to post a question, you wait that a kindly person could give you some answer.
if you want to root without JB, don't open your wifi, for stop update by OTA
After unlock your tf300
and use NVFLASH on final
I used the steps described by cbetso 14 May 2012 on HOW TO ROOT YOUR TAB (message #33) in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 section of xda developers Forum. It is the unlockr method. It worked great. Thank you to everyone there who shared so much!
It gave me the message: "You have successfully rooted your tablet as well as installed CWM recovery on it."
The 4.0.4 update was offered by Samsung several months ago, and Jelly Bean may be offered in the future. My questions are simple:
In the rooting process, did I overwrite the official ICS 4.0.3 Samsung ROM?
May I update to 4.0.4 from the currently rooted state?
Must I remove CWM before updating?
And/or must I do something else to prepare the Tab in advance of applying the updates?
If so, please point me to a location on the forum where the steps are listed.
Sorry for the Beginner questions. Thank you in advance for any help.

The 4.0.4 update was offered by Samsung several months ago, and Jelly Bean may be offered in the future. My questions are simple:
In the rooting process, did I overwrite the official ICS 4.0.3 Samsung ROM? No, all you did was provide a modified script. Although, I may be stood corrected, as I did not find your link to your rooted method.
May I update to 4.0.4 from the currently rooted state? If you are rooted, then no you need to be Stock. Unless some one has provided an Updated.zip, then that can be applied over your root method.
Must I remove CWM before updating? No, if you have returned to Stock. The Stock Recovery will be applied over the Custom Recovery. Unless again, someone has provided the proper Updated.zip that can be applied through a Custom Recovery.
And/or must I do something else to prepare the Tab in advance of applying the updates? If you return to Stock, No. If someone has provided an Update.zip to flash from a Custom Recovery (i.e, CWM), then No...
If so, please point me to a location on the forum where the steps are listed. Hello bettyhills, I am fairly new to this particular device, and the only thing I have found here is a download in regards to a 4.0.4 update, from the 4.0.3 Stock version, is a download that consisted of a bunch of partition files, that needed to be installed via Heimdall. In my hesitation primarily, because it neglected to provide the correct instructions. I opted to wait for the Jelly Bean updated, which has yet to have been correctly distributed for the GT2-p3113 device, although there is a GT2-p3110 version out there... To reiterate, in my hesitation I told myself I would wait for the Jelly Bean update before flashing a Stock Rom to rightfully except an Official Samsung Distribution, by returning to Stock and re-rooting...
Although, you may want to wait for a more like-able suggestion..., from someone else!!!
Hello friends,
I have bought a Nexus 5 with the 5.0 lollipo version and got the update message for 5.1 yesterday. I downloaded and started the update and it gave me an error. While checking it it says that my phone is Rooted? And thats a very bad thing. I want to set it to factory default and unroot it then update to newest version.
Please can anyone tell me how to remove all the root and set it to default normal original android version then update legally?
I would appreciate if someone would help me and suggest me something.

If your phone is rooted and you have the SuperSU app, you can un-root from within the app. If you don't have the app you can get it from Google Play.
Thanks guys,
Can anyone suggest me whichone of the custom roms will be good for me and stable?
Why update with 5.1 ota if you're going to install a custom ROM?
