[MOD](6/19/12) Remove 3-dot bar & Key Remaps | ALL RUUs | Flashable - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

(6/19/12) I have updated this mod in flash able zip form for all RUUs. Have only tested on 1.88, so flash at your own risk and let me know if there are any problems. Thanks!
Steve
Hi All,
This is mod that will remove the ridiculous "3-dot" menu bar that pops up in fullscreen apps (many games, for instance). It will also remap your soft keys, as follows:
1. The recents key will bring up the relevant context menu with a short/regular press, while a long press of the home key will bring up recent apps.
I will be releasing additional key maps in the future (long press recents for search, keep recents as is with long press for menu, etc.)
This mod is only for deodexed ROMs
Install as follows:
1. Make a NANDROID backup!!
2. Download appropriate zip;
2. Place zip on sdcard;
3. flash as usual in recovery (dalvik and cache wipe recommended);
This mod is based on the work of blubbers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582506), so please go and thank him.
Let me know if I messed anything up, and enjoy..
Steve

Good job, I was actually editing that code rn. Seems like there's always someone faster than me lol

Is there a way to manually remap the recents to the long press home on the current stock ROM?

Or, more importantly I would say:
How can we implement the menu key longpress (to home or recents) into the stock rom? I want to do this because that 3-dot menu thing is absolutely stupid and annoying.

We can already remap the Menu key to the recent apps button and that does get rid of the 3 dot thing, but we then lose the recent apps functionality. It's a fair trade off I think...for now.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Still not sure what the difference I need to modify is. Care to narrow it down so I don't have to read 1000 lines of smali code?

should be able to use these now that we have deodexed files.

I'm going to test them as soon as i deodex. if someone posts if they've worked i would appreciate.
put the files in. Works perfectly. except when you try to reboot, and go back, when you try to hit the power button again, it stays in the reboot menu, not returning to the original menu

+1. I don't want to deodex my ROM but really, REALLY need the long press home to activate recent apps.

I'd be willing to deodex, if the script was updated for the new 1.82 software ^^

If you want to remove the 3 dots and you have already used this mod, then just go to your build.prop and scroll all the way down and add this line to the bottom of the file:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

So can I just take these two files and replace the default ones in System/Framework using Root Explorer? I'm not deodexed yet, but I don't know if that is required anymore after looking at the two files.

If you deoxed that is all that you have to do.
Also, this remaps long press menu to search, but you never mentioned it.

I thought deodexing only helped with themeing/customizing (maybe I read a misinformed article)? And doesn't long pressing the menu button bring up recent apps?

Droid Swype KB + ASOP KB signed

Hey guys,
I am a big fan of ASOP so I've been looking for good replacement for the KB and found
1) Thanks to Aloysius from his Hero threat - ASOP KB signed. Just flash it over any ROM and you will get ASOP KB
2) My friend owns a Droid Incredible so he told me today that they got Swype working, but damn it looks so much better than what I've seen before. I am attaching screenshots and the actual apk.
Both work
Landscape mode for the upcoming questions
Good luck
Does this have the correct landscape resolution?

I love that droid skin for swype too bad it doesnt have the voice to txt button
Thank you very much, will this one expire any time soon?
How do I install this. I tried downloading the file and I keep getting parse error. I deleted all the files in my download folders and even downloaded it on my work pc and sent it as an email attachment.
I can do the swype but how to do I apply the ASOP.

You have to go to Recovery mode and apply the update. It is a signed rar update.
Oh man. Me and this Evo battled last night for hours trying to root this thing. Ok so I'm guessing I'll download file, put it on SDcard, turn off, hold volume down and press power and just choose that file?

Yes, download the zip file, place it in your SD, boot into recovery - Flipz green screen - OR - Rom manager - blue screen
Apply update from sdcard, locate the zip and press the power button to apply it.
Then reboot, go to your phone settings, Keyboard settings and you will see Android KB available.
Lastly, open either your sms or email, tap your finger in the input screen to chose different input, and chose Android KB.
That should be it.
I will try that.
check out ROM Manager if you are fully rooted..very easy!
Ok. I downloaded it and uninstalled the Swype that I previously had. I'm assuming I'd have to download the new Swype to work with this keyboard. I went into input method and I see 2 options for Android Keyboard. I'm guessing it doesn't matter which one I choose correct?
I'll check out ROM manager.
Yay! I did it looks sweet.

[Tutorial] Lockscreen, Home Key, Power Menu not working

This guide attempts to solve the following problems:-
1. The menu and home buttons' keypresses are detected but the respective actions aren't executed.
2. The lockscreen doesn't get activated.
3. The power menu has only reboot and power off as options. The rest of the options like Airplane Mode and Profiles.
PREREQUISITES:
1. ADB
2. SQLITE3
FIX:
1-Copy sqlite3 to /system/bin
2- chmod 777 /system/bin/sqlite3
3-Type following command in ADB or Terminal Emulator
Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name,value) VALUES ('device_provisioned','1');"
4- Reboot
5- Done
This guide is based upon this post.
Have you tested this? Does this fix the anoying bug when you press menu and nothing happens so you have to press 2-3 times? Will the phone wake on back/menu press? Mine takes 2-3 clicks to wake with menu/back key, this is not the case with eclair.
2. The lockscreen doesn't get activated. - What do you mean by this? Is it when the lockscreen takes 1-2 seconds to appear after waking the phone? - this doesn't happen to me anymore thankfully.

I think u misunderstood...
*Sometimes due to a weired bug in android, there are only 4 options in extended power menu..Power Off,Reboot,Recovery n Download.
*Home button does not works at all.
*Lock-screen is completely gone.
*Power menu just turns on the screen
*Sleep mode is gone.
U can search for the same problem over google but there was no sure shot solution... But now there is..
I myself faced it few times while cooking the roms and each time u face this bug, there is no other way than start from zero again....
Had the same problem ages ago.
It occurs if you remove SetupWizard.apk.
Leave it be, do a factory reset and all will be well.

that's no bug. it's the normal behavior of froyo that you have to do a double click on the "outside buttons" to wake up the phone.

Is it possible to include this fix in a rom?
Or to do it in recovery with a update.zip?
this is not even needed thomas You have deleted setupwizard.apk from system/app I think. If you delete that apk this happens just place it back. If you apply this but do not have the setupwizard.apk in your system it will come back after a while

thanks! this totally saved my @ss.
I am on a SE Xperia Arc, rooted with CWM recovery, and a generic firmware 4.1.B.0.431.
I went into recovery mode and reset the phone, wiping everything. After that, this exact same problem appeared (home button non-functioning, no lock screen, etc...) Also, the phone would not receive calls! Data was working and was able to receive messages that way, and was able to dial out.
A few tips for people running this fix to save some time.
How to run an ADB terminal command line? Don't bother.
1. Just install something like Root Explorer.
2. copy sqlite3 to the /system/bin directory ON YOUR PHONE
3. change the permissions (that's that chmod 777 means)
4. give owner and group read and write permissions
5. IMPORTANT. copy the fix.sh (it's a script) to the ROOT of the phone. not /sdcard, but ROOT
6. just click on the fix.sh and select "excute) and the script will run and you will see output saying (done, reboot) or something.
good luck! and thanks for everybody's help!
rooted device
Hallo, in advance - sorry for my English (haven't spoke nor written for long time)
Do I need rooted device to go through arunmcops's procedure? I have galaxy Y pro (b5510) and after rooting then unrooting and factory reset, I have the same issue when home button doesn't react... Thanx in advance for any response.
Hi!
I have just encountered this bug (on my I9300) and tried to apply your fix, but sqlite crashes saying
Code:
soinfo_relocate(linker.cpp:1013): cannot locate symbol "sqlite3_load_extension" referenced by "sqlite3" ... CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
... what can I do?
I am sure all files have the right permissions, but apart from that I wasn't even able to find that error on google :/
hahaha nevermind... It worked the first time I tried it, I just had to reboot and actually turn the lockscreen on

Yes but you have to be rooted and have a custom recovery installed to flash the zip that removes it. You can find the zip in the theme and app section.

Great stuff, thanks alot for the peace of mind! I was one of, if not the first to have this IMEI wipe thing with Imoseyon's first test of the leankernel, and been wary of it ever since.
PLEASE NOTE: This appears to require a stock kernel. I was on Imoseyon's latest v2 beta (non-kexec) and could not get this to work properly. Simply went into cwm and flashed the return-to-stock zip that he has listed in his thread on rootz and tried again, and it worked perfectly! Just be sure to follow ALL steps in this exact order, and you'll be golden.

Now go to your phone, its time to enable the hidden menu. On Verizon or Sprint, go to the dialer and dial *#22745927 . Choose the option to enable the Hidden Menu. After that open any cut. create a shortcut to the hidden menu. to do this click on new shortcut. then click on activity. scroll down until you see IOTHiddenMenu. click on it . it should make a short cut to the hidden menu.
Once in the menu, choose the option for USBSettingsMenu, then choose the option RMNET+DM+MODEM. Hook up the phone to the PC via USB at this time if you haven't already. This option works on STOCK TOUCHWIZ (it can be rooted).
OK. Now go to your PC Control Panel. We need to get into the Device Manager to determine where your phone is being recognized as far as the COM ports. For this, go to System -> Device Manager (on the left) or System -> Hardware -> Device Manager (depends on your Control Panel setup). Anyways, scroll down to Ports (may say Ports & LTP, Serial, depends on version). Anyways, find your phone under it, and take note of the COM# (mine was COM9, yours can and probably will vary). If you have exclamation marks anywhere then install the Samsung drivers and try again.
OK. Now go to Start Menu -> All Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration
Click on the Ports tab. Click on Add New Port, then add your Port# where it says Port and name it something you can remember. Hit OK.
Now click on Start Clients -> Software Download. Click on the Backup tab. Make sure your phone is listed under Port. If its not, hit Browse, choose the COM that is your phone, and hit OK. Now where it says QCN File, hit Browse, find a safe spot to store your backup on your PC, and name it. Hit OK. Now hit Start. Make sure backup gets to 100% with no errors.
Congratulations, you now have your backup made! Flash away!
Don't forget to go into your phone hidden menu again and change USB mode back to MTP so you can use it to access the phone storage.
If it bricks sometime in the future:
Go back into QPST. Go to Start Clients -> Software Download. Click on the Restore tab. Make sure your phone is listed under Port. If not, browse to the appropriate COM port. Choose your QCN backup in the other box. Click Start, let it finish. Phone should reboot. If it fails rebooting, just do a manual reboot. First boot will take a bit, let it do its thing.
AS PER THE USUAL, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE! IF YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS -TO A T- YOU SHOULD HAVE NO ISSUES, BUT QPST IS A VERY POWERFUL PROGRAM, SO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
HAPPY FLASHING!

It's common sense. Man if the guide said to open tapatalk and you didn't have the app one would assume you download it. That way you can open it

Philz you beauty! Welcome to the P5100 land! Finally something to look forward to in this otherwise zzzz P5100 forum. I was really planning to sell off this tablet due to the lack of top notch recoveries and kernels. Now I have eternal hope because Philz our saviour is here!
People, you just have to try his Kernels. He is a legend! Just check out the Note N7000 forums if you want to check out his fabulous work and fan following
About touch:
1- when you touch a menu to select: is the selection precise and working as expected
2- bottom virtual buttons: do they work as expected?
3- If it is slow, try to reduce the Scroll Sensitivity setting and reduce menu height. Play with both to find a sweet point¨
Try to describe what happens with precision. A video would even be better, so that I can get what you mean. I won't be able to help much as I do not have the device, without these
Here are the screenshots. The touch works perfect. There's no lag whatsoever. The bottom navigation buttons work as they should. Hopefully we'll be gifted with a Kernel soon
This works great on my 5113. The Aroma file manager seems really useful. I wasn't totally sure how to set it up so I'll write the steps here in case anyone else is wondering.
I downloaded the zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
You can "install" the zip file from recovery which really just runs the file manager. It doesn't really install anything. When you exit you go back to recovery.
However, if you want to use it from inside PhilZ's recovery do this:
Go to /sdcard/clockworkmod
Create a directory called .aromafm
Copy the zip file you downloaded into that directory
Change the name of the zip file to aromafm.zip
Now you can use the Aroma FM menu item from the recovery to launch the file manager. The first time you run it from a new location you get the "help" overlay screen. I did the above steps in the file manager itself. Pretty cool. And having a terminal from inside recovery is great when you need to fix something and aren't at home.

Big thanks for the screen shots. At least I can see how the display is looking
I decided on purpose to not enlarge the bottom buttons as I thought it would be harder to use them if spread along all the width. Is it ok?
As for menu toggle options not being completely right aligned, it is a limitation in current stock CWM, and I feel no need to increase the buffer to make it right align

Yes, but you can also just double tap outside menu area, and it will launch aroma

Forgot about that, but you still have to do the setup to put the zip file with the right name in the hidden directory, no?

yes, sure
So, for p5100, you confirm that touch works as expected? Even the double tap and other shortcuts I guess

Yes, the touch works perfect. Flashed 2-3 ROM's just for fun for testing it. The double tap and other shortcuts (the ones i checked) are all cool.
And yes the bottom navigation buttons are also good at this size. Infact they're perfect for the wider screen. Cheers!

Actually, I may have found a problem related to the 5113. I have installed some kernels through this recovery but when I went to install the latest CM nightly I get an assert failure where it is looking for p5110 or p5113. I've installed many of these in the past. I may revert to old CWM and see if it works, but I feel it must be related to this recovery, perhaps because it doesn't know I have a 5113?
Update: Reverting to normal stock worked.

Just delete the assert line from your updater-script file in zip
For other variants, follow instructions and i will release for your phone

Yeah I have done that before for other reasons. Just thought I'd mention it.

CM ROMs have an extra safety check which cant be avoided by deleting assert prop lines in updater script.
It's under META-INF\com\android\metadata
With N7000 it shows this - "post-build=samsung/GT-N7000/GT-N7000:4.0.3/IML74K/ZCLP6:user/release-keys
post-timestamp=1364279894

PhilZ Touch is a CWM Advanced Edition that adds all the features you could ever miss in CWM
It is a well proven recovery for many phones
It also adds a full touch interface a completely configurable GUI
Main thread + features + install instructions + dev support
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
Since many requests to port it to P5100, here it is the first release, untested by me
Please give your feedback, what works, and any bug you could encounter
Read the features, and check if you are missing something
I would appreciate a screen shot from your device, mainly under GUI options or custom backup menu where you select partitions
To take a screen shot, just slide left
Also, do not forget to read about the powerful aroma file manager integration and double tap shortcut
Download: Flash at your own risk, this is a first release, untested

Just ensure the resolution, since it is inverted. Let me know and eventually post a screen shot
By the way, since you have a note 2. Can you let me know your opinion about touch difference between note 2 and this one?
Also, if you post a recent recovery.img from sammobile.com, i will repack for p5110 if needed
