[Q] 720p and 1080p flash is bad - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Unplayable, why I thought the s4 is powerful ? If I'm not mistaken my gs note played it fine!

No problems here. Plays flawlessly. Hasn't stuttered once.

Its software not hardware, the galaxy note is a snapdragon also.

Well not everything supports ics yet, nor has adobe flash been reliable in the past. I had the original gs2 and it had problems with flash vs my inspire 4g which was flawless. It's all about software!!

Yeah, Flash blows. Perhaps on your Note it was defaulting to HTML5 video instead of Flash? Just a thought.

I dont understand why playing a 720p video from youtube is stuttering and cant even keep up. my s2 was able to play 1080p

Weird =\, mines doesn't have any stuttering issues.

I just tried mkv + some mp4 bdrip in transformer they don't work well lag too much
And I tried same movies in my phone sgs2 with same player I used in transformer they all work well and smooth look like I'm watching from pc what the problem ? Is the problem with tegra 2 ?

I dont think its that simple, if the video is encoded at 720p and is of a large size and bitrate it should still be as challenging to play, even if its not using all of the reso.
The bigger question is who is playing it? Is the app really optimized to be running on the dual core tegra? I havent had a chance to because my TF isnt arriving tomorrow but I handbraked some 720p files that i have run through my Evo with no problems so we shall see how the recoded videos work with the stock player compared to MKVs through a 3rd party player.
Also are both running off the same SD card.

Samsung said they couldn't produce enough Exynos so even some of their SGS2 phone have to switch to Tegra 2. That's why the 10.1 can't get the Exynos
I dont know about the sgs2, but my Epic has built in Divx codex for playing video. The Tf may not have the same codec pack or asus is usiing some proprietary software that isnt utilizing the tegra well.
Its not about the res I think tegra 2 is a joke cuz its really slow if u compare it with sgs 2 prossesor I wish samsung change its plan with there tab and make there new tabs with better cpu

It would take more work to decode a 720p video and reencode it at a lower resolution on the fly. It's the tegra 2 and honeycomb combo. Tegra 2 can handle 1080p just not high profile h264.

I saw this in a YouTube review. The TF had studdery video and the Xoom did not. They both have Tegra 2 processors so I don't think these the problem.
I'm personally hoping its software related and crossing my fingers that HC 3.1 will solve the problem.

yes it's smooth but why would you want to play 1080p videos on a phone?
Can't be smooth at 1080p, only GS2 can, at the moment
Owning a GS2 also I have tried lots of 1080 and 720 and really on such a small screen you really can't tell much difference in quality.
you can't notice difference between 480p to 720p and 1080p on the phone
Of course the screen on our phone is 480p (800x480) so any higher is a bit useless

Did you try it yourself? Cause I did, Big Buck Bunny 1080p and Avatar 1080p trailer both run smooth as silk. There are video's on Youtube showing the O3D playing high profile 4.1 720p mkv and 1080p mkv which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Haven't tried playing 1080p mkv myself yet but will today.
The GS2 is an incredible phone but not the only one that can do incredible things anymore.
yes...we are all referring 1080p IN FLASH CONTENT,SO DURING THE NAVIGATION WITH THE BROWSER...Not with a dedicated player...

Largo79 asked "@ik911 Are you able to play Youtube 1080p vidz smoothly?" to which ik911 replied he could and then you said only GS2 should be able to. Right, you clearly have no idea what I was replying to so I'm not gonna bother having this discussion with you.
I have no trouble playing embedded video, playing more than two at a time like in that review does make the players choppy which could be a Froyo vs. Gingerbread issue or just a raw power issue but who would play multiple embedded video's anyway on such a small screen (or any screen for that matter)?

Pardon my ignorance... but why would we need 1080p on our phones? they can't display the lines, or does it actually still look better? Less Grainy?

Should I buy the Transformer?

Hi guys!
I'm planning to buy the TF101, but I'm not sure about a couple of things.
Can it actually play 1080p videos? Or 1080p YouTube videos? Is the YouTube app streams over 1080p?
Or we must open the browser if we want to watch it in high resolution?
How many hours it usually lasts with watching videos?
Is it fine with the stock ICS, or I have to switch ROMs in order to get a decent tablet?
I would greatly appreciate an input from those who have the TF101.
If u buying new, rather get something else, ics is a hit n miss on the tf101 at the moment, and asus don't seem close to fixing it honestly
I've got one, no serious issues with mine, I enjoy it
Not sure about the video playback

It will play hd youtube(720p i think) however the playback is not great, actual image quality is pretty good but as soon as there is any sort of fast moving action it starts to skip a second here, a second there Really annoying as it is a priority for me also. The last firmware update was supposed to have fixed this issue but seems to have made little difference. Have finally got round to rooting and am now searching for a rom that has sorted the issue. Its not a bad tab apart from this though and if you can get it at the right price there really isnt much wrong with it

Yeah, that's what I notice too. I mean, the video looks stunning, but it doesn't seem to be running smoothly at all.
I ran it side by side with my iPhone 4S, and my iPhone played the video much smoother overall. I thought I was just seeing thing until it reached one part in the video where the same kid in the video raising his hand to point at the sky. The arm movement right there was noticeably unnatural in the Nexus 5, compare to my iPhone 4S's playback.
Does anyone know an app that can show you what the currently playing video's fps is?

I hope it's just some optimization problem that can be fixed with software update(s). I'd really hate to return this phone back, but it's quite a deal-breaker for someone like me who uses the phone as an on-the-go multimedia player.
Are there any alternative apps that can play HD youtube videos smoothly?

Sometimes these issues are also caused by user settings like what and how many apps or widgets running in the background, Google syncronisation interval and what apps connect to the internet etc etc.

Well, there are people like me and you who notice the "stuttering" (I wouldn't call it choppy, because still frames are just as clear as my 4S). Then, there are others that say it does not stutter even in the slightest.

Probably a good test would be download the video using for example tubemate, then play the local copy this would help determine whether network latencies are contributing to any lags or if caused by decoding the video if it occurs when local copy.
Then try hw vs Sw decoding.
Will test when I ve got time.
