yes it's smooth but why would you want to play 1080p videos on a phone?

Can't be smooth at 1080p, only GS2 can, at the moment

Owning a GS2 also I have tried lots of 1080 and 720 and really on such a small screen you really can't tell much difference in quality.

you can't notice difference between 480p to 720p and 1080p on the phone

Of course the screen on our phone is 480p (800x480) so any higher is a bit useless

Did you try it yourself? Cause I did, Big Buck Bunny 1080p and Avatar 1080p trailer both run smooth as silk. There are video's on Youtube showing the O3D playing high profile 4.1 720p mkv and 1080p mkv which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Haven't tried playing 1080p mkv myself yet but will today.
The GS2 is an incredible phone but not the only one that can do incredible things anymore.

yes...we are all referring 1080p IN FLASH CONTENT,SO DURING THE NAVIGATION WITH THE BROWSER...Not with a dedicated player...

Largo79 asked "@ik911 Are you able to play Youtube 1080p vidz smoothly?" to which ik911 replied he could and then you said only GS2 should be able to. Now I could be wrong and you didn't directly reply to ik911 but I got the impression you did so I just told you Youtube 1080p content does play smooth on my O3D.

Right, you clearly have no idea what I was replying to so I'm not gonna bother having this discussion with you.
I have no trouble playing embedded video, playing more than two at a time like in that review does make the players choppy which could be a Froyo vs. Gingerbread issue or just a raw power issue but who would play multiple embedded video's anyway on such a small screen (or any screen for that matter)?

Someone asked whats the point of playing 1080p on a small screen? Well when u have ur phone connected to an HDTV then it comes in handy being able to play 1080p or 720p videos

Not with HC 3.0.1, but yes with 3.1. It is not buttery smooth, but at least not frustratingly laggy.

You were an ass. This is a perfectly fine question to ask after the Android 3.1 update, which has improved video playback.
I haven't tried a 1080P MKV file yet. I'll give that a try soon and see how it goes. As someone mentioned, some 1080P files do play better, but still not smoothly, so I don't have high expectations. Hopefully at least 720P MKV playback will be smooth.

Well it's something I want to try anyway, I just installed 3.1 today.
And I don't really understand why people got to be dicks on this forum. If you see a post you don't like, why the hell do you stop and reply to it then? Clearly you got nothing better to do, probably take the same time to give the correct answer than say "go search". *shrug*

Agreed but its never going to change. I wouldn't go out my way to reply with search it lol
To elaborate more, technically you can say that you are able to play 1080p. Some files will not play, some files will play better than the others. Suffice to say that you still want to use 720p instead of 1080p. With 3.1, just about all the 720p files i throw at my tf plays very well with no discernible stuterring, with either the mobo player or the regular media player.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
3.1 seems to play nearly all 720p file flawlessly...for 1080p i think you'll need to stick with the base profile..
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
1080P MKV file was brutal. Lots of freezing up. A 720P MKV file played pretty well, a lot better than before. There was still just barely noticeable stuttering, but the audio seemed to stay in sync pretty well, something I had problems with before.
1080P MP4 ripped from YouTube played pretty good, but some noticeable stuttering.
This was with the MoboPlayer. So it's looking better, but 1080P MKV still not good.

there is a member here who came up with a HANDBRAKE video preset that works excellent on the tf101, if u dont mind converting your movies, which is what ive done then you can do that. If not you can use players from the market but u will have less than perfect playback some cases. I just coverted my pirates of the caribbean movies and they play great. The Handbrake thread is on the transformer forum under general, ummm yeap this forum.
Not sure if this works for you, but I think Plex is a great alternative.
There are loads of threads on this. Use the search function.

[Q] Hd 1080p movies dont play smoothly

I want a video player or a tweak that can make my optimus 3d play 1080p without small stutters.
Te build-in cannot do this, although its close.
I use hdmi to view the video on tv and the stutters are really noticeable.
I have a genuine class 10 microsd card, so i dont think its the card.

I dont know exactly but this phone cant handle 1080p 3D natively, i mean cant decode video 3D at 1080P, just simulate that 3D...
And wait for Gingerbread or overclock kernel, maybe you get better performance.

problem existed on the atrix. is there a device that doesn't have problems with it?
Pardon my ignorance... but why would we need 1080p on our phones? they can't display the lines, or does it actually still look better? Less Grainy?
on the desktop I don't notice anything higher than 720 as I have a 720TV.

[Q] Youtube Quality

I was wondering if there is an option to play youtube videos in 1080p watching it on the phone? I know that samsung g2s supports 1080p youtube videos but apparently the g2x doesn't. Im running stock Rom (froyo) without root.

Well... mom's netbook can't play 360p videos... and it has a 1.8GHz dualcore...(but it has no video card)
Say thanks you can run HQ YouTube... you need 1GHz CPU to run 720p videos, but this is with a good GPU (not a mobile one) and also nothing in background...
Oh and dual core 1.2GHz with mobile GPU can run 720p without problems (see Gnexus)
Just wait

Don't think about it, even If you found a player which can run it and you overclock to 806, still you'll run it below 7-8 FPS, which means it will be too laggy and the worst thing is that you can't enjoy that video, use your computer to convert it to 480p
is there any way to change video resolution without converting it?

I don't like trolls on xda. I assumed kiranbandre was asking a legit question to what he didn't know. Again, because I assume people here don't troll those in need. So I explained that umangleekha was in fact referring to the same thing by "converting".
So I'm not sure kiranbandre was not trolling and for the record, if he wasn't, I'm sorry, but I am sure you were. I don't like trolls on xda
I apologize to the MODs if I am out of line but I don't like being made fun of.
