I know many older but fairly OK computers otherwise that don't play 720p. So, no.

to get the best performence use mx video player ,
i was able to run a 1080p video with it at around 0.1 fps with super sound lag

Well... mom's netbook can't play 360p videos... and it has a 1.8GHz dualcore...(but it has no video card)
Say thanks you can run HQ YouTube... you need 1GHz CPU to run 720p videos, but this is with a good GPU (not a mobile one) and also nothing in background...
Oh and dual core 1.2GHz with mobile GPU can run 720p without problems (see Gnexus)
Just wait

If i ever want to watch hd movies on my netbook, i would just down scale them to just above 1024x600 resolution, as thats all you need, and dual core netbook will easily handle it =)

Nope mom has a very good netbook, and videos play on it like they do on the phone... we have hardware accelerated videos, netbooks don't... (GPU has about 16GHz on a 256MB GPU... so lot better with HW acceleration...)

Lol just googled a bit and found out oue GPU has 133MB and 128MHz clock speed (very very slow)
The funny thing is my old ATI has 64MB and 14GHz clock speed lol
And to tell you why the PS2 is so cool: it has 128MB and 28GHz clock!!!(10 years ago!!!)

Don't think about it, even If you found a player which can run it and you overclock to 806, still you'll run it below 7-8 FPS, which means it will be too laggy and the worst thing is that you can't enjoy that video, use your computer to convert it to 480p

is there any way to change video resolution without converting it?

I don't like trolls on xda. I assumed kiranbandre was asking a legit question to what he didn't know. Again, because I assume people here don't troll those in need. So I explained that umangleekha was in fact referring to the same thing by "converting".
So I'm not sure kiranbandre was not trolling and for the record, if he wasn't, I'm sorry, but I am sure you were. I don't like trolls on xda
I apologize to the MODs if I am out of line but I don't like being made fun of.
have a nice day

(Q) Why SGS2 better than tab play movies

Hello why sgs2 better than transformer or tegra 2 with playing movies ?
I just tried mkv + some mp4 bdrip in transformer they don't work well lag too much
And I tried same movies in my phone sgs2 with same player I used in transformer they all work well and smooth look like I'm watching from pc what the problem ? Is the problem with tegra 2 ?

I dont think its that simple, if the video is encoded at 720p and is of a large size and bitrate it should still be as challenging to play, even if its not using all of the reso.
The bigger question is who is playing it? Is the app really optimized to be running on the dual core tegra? I havent had a chance to because my TF isnt arriving tomorrow but I handbraked some 720p files that i have run through my Evo with no problems so we shall see how the recoded videos work with the stock player compared to MKVs through a 3rd party player.
Also are both running off the same SD card.

Still blows my mind that they're going to use Tegra 2 in the Galaxy 10.1 tablet.

Samsung said they couldn't produce enough Exynos so even some of their SGS2 phone have to switch to Tegra 2. That's why the 10.1 can't get the Exynos
I dont know about the sgs2, but my Epic has built in Divx codex for playing video. The Tf may not have the same codec pack or asus is usiing some proprietary software that isnt utilizing the tegra well.
Its not about the res I think tegra 2 is a joke cuz its really slow if u compare it with sgs 2 prossesor I wish samsung change its plan with there tab and make there new tabs with better cpu

The tegra 2 is a joke? Well, mines sailing along at 1.6ghz right now and makes all the previously mentioned look bad. Unhappy with your transformer or galaxy tab?

It would take more work to decode a 720p video and reencode it at a lower resolution on the fly. It's the tegra 2 and honeycomb combo. Tegra 2 can handle 1080p just not high profile h264.

I saw this in a YouTube review. The TF had studdery video and the Xoom did not. They both have Tegra 2 processors so I don't think these the problem.
I'm personally hoping its software related and crossing my fingers that HC 3.1 will solve the problem.

yes it's smooth but why would you want to play 1080p videos on a phone?
Can't be smooth at 1080p, only GS2 can, at the moment
Owning a GS2 also I have tried lots of 1080 and 720 and really on such a small screen you really can't tell much difference in quality.
you can't notice difference between 480p to 720p and 1080p on the phone
Of course the screen on our phone is 480p (800x480) so any higher is a bit useless

Did you try it yourself? Cause I did, Big Buck Bunny 1080p and Avatar 1080p trailer both run smooth as silk. There are video's on Youtube showing the O3D playing high profile 4.1 720p mkv and 1080p mkv which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Haven't tried playing 1080p mkv myself yet but will today.
The GS2 is an incredible phone but not the only one that can do incredible things anymore.
yes...we are all referring 1080p IN FLASH CONTENT,SO DURING THE NAVIGATION WITH THE BROWSER...Not with a dedicated player...

Largo79 asked "@ik911 Are you able to play Youtube 1080p vidz smoothly?" to which ik911 replied he could and then you said only GS2 should be able to. Now I could be wrong and you didn't directly reply to ik911 but I got the impression you did so I just told you Youtube 1080p content does play smooth on my O3D.

Right, you clearly have no idea what I was replying to so I'm not gonna bother having this discussion with you.
I have no trouble playing embedded video, playing more than two at a time like in that review does make the players choppy which could be a Froyo vs. Gingerbread issue or just a raw power issue but who would play multiple embedded video's anyway on such a small screen (or any screen for that matter)?
Someone asked whats the point of playing 1080p on a small screen? Well when u have ur phone connected to an HDTV then it comes in handy being able to play 1080p or 720p videos

[Q] Hd 1080p movies dont play smoothly

I want a video player or a tweak that can make my optimus 3d play 1080p without small stutters.
Te build-in cannot do this, although its close.
I use hdmi to view the video on tv and the stutters are really noticeable.
I have a genuine class 10 microsd card, so i dont think its the card.

I dont know exactly but this phone cant handle 1080p 3D natively, i mean cant decode video 3D at 1080P, just simulate that 3D...
And wait for Gingerbread or overclock kernel, maybe you get better performance.

i tried rockplayer and it has desame performance as the stock player.

[Q] HD on Fit ?

Is there a player that can play hd 1080p or 720p on fit? I ask because I installed Mobo Video Player and realised that it plays video via processor, and not via GPU. Is there some player that plays video via GPU?
Nope. Fit has an adreno 200 gpu which basically sucks.

Hi,
Sorry for not being clear, I am going to purchase my 1st tablet, so I need to ask this question
I will likely purchase a tablet with high res screen (approximately FHD).

I can play 1080p 3D video fine on my mk802 which has a single core arm cpu running at 912 mhz using ice cream sandwich.
Maybe better option would be to give an idea of how much you can spend and what sort of uses you want from a tablet (eg gaming) and then people could recommend the best featured tablets that suit your budget?

Hi,
Thank for your suggestion. My main usage is as follows:
Watch 1080p movie in various formats and codec, source is shared via network driver (DLNA or streaming using VLC), output to TV.
A good audio output and screen with 200+ pixel density
Checking email, facebook, read news etc.,
Video Chatting with my family.
Game and other apps (no need for hardware-killer games)
Price as low as possible, of course
