Hi guys!
I'm planning to buy the TF101, but I'm not sure about a couple of things.
Can it actually play 1080p videos? Or 1080p YouTube videos? Is the YouTube app streams over 1080p?
Or we must open the browser if we want to watch it in high resolution?
How many hours it usually lasts with watching videos?
Is it fine with the stock ICS, or I have to switch ROMs in order to get a decent tablet?
I would greatly appreciate an input from those who have the TF101.
If u buying new, rather get something else, ics is a hit n miss on the tf101 at the moment, and asus don't seem close to fixing it honestly
I've got one, no serious issues with mine, I enjoy it
Not sure about the video playback

Hi!
Thanks for your answer. Could you please explain what do you mean by "hit and miss"? I thought all TF101 got ICS OTA.

I can't wait to have it, but these things stop me right now.
Does it have a USB host option?

It will play hd youtube(720p i think) however the playback is not great, actual image quality is pretty good but as soon as there is any sort of fast moving action it starts to skip a second here, a second there Really annoying as it is a priority for me also. The last firmware update was supposed to have fixed this issue but seems to have made little difference. Have finally got round to rooting and am now searching for a rom that has sorted the issue. Its not a bad tab apart from this though and if you can get it at the right price there really isnt much wrong with it

That's what I was afraid of. That I'll not get it without putting a new rom on it.
Well, that means I have to look for something else
Usb host is basically USB on-the go. I know the keyboard has it, but I wasn't sure about the tablet itself.
The nexus 7 looks awsome and has killer specs and a price tag u can't beat. But I'm just new to the TF and I love it not one regret.

Not with HC 3.0.1, but yes with 3.1. It is not buttery smooth, but at least not frustratingly laggy.

You were an ass. This is a perfectly fine question to ask after the Android 3.1 update, which has improved video playback.
I haven't tried a 1080P MKV file yet. I'll give that a try soon and see how it goes. As someone mentioned, some 1080P files do play better, but still not smoothly, so I don't have high expectations. Hopefully at least 720P MKV playback will be smooth.

And I don't really understand why people got to be dicks on this forum. If you see a post you don't like, why the hell do you stop and reply to it then? Clearly you got nothing better to do, probably take the same time to give the correct answer than say "go search". *shrug*

To elaborate more, technically you can say that you are able to play 1080p. Some files will not play, some files will play better than the others. Suffice to say that you still want to use 720p instead of 1080p. With 3.1, just about all the 720p files i throw at my tf plays very well with no discernible stuterring, with either the mobo player or the regular media player.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
3.1 seems to play nearly all 720p file flawlessly...for 1080p i think you'll need to stick with the base profile..

1080P MKV file was brutal. Lots of freezing up. A 720P MKV file played pretty well, a lot better than before. There was still just barely noticeable stuttering, but the audio seemed to stay in sync pretty well, something I had problems with before.
1080P MP4 ripped from YouTube played pretty good, but some noticeable stuttering.
This was with the MoboPlayer. So it's looking better, but 1080P MKV still not good.

there is a member here who came up with a HANDBRAKE video preset that works excellent on the tf101, if u dont mind converting your movies, which is what ive done then you can do that. If not you can use players from the market but u will have less than perfect playback some cases. I just coverted my pirates of the caribbean movies and they play great. The Handbrake thread is on the transformer forum under general, ummm yeap this forum.
Not sure if this works for you, but I think Plex is a great alternative.
There are loads of threads on this. Use the search function.

Alright, I just flashed the latest and greatest Bali kernel to my phone, and noticed that when I take a video with the camcorder at any resolution i get an audio lag on play back in the stock video player and double twist. When I play them on my computer or upload them to Youtube, the lag is gone.
Curiously, I had this problem before I flashed the kernel, but all the videos I had prior to the flashing are now fixed in that respect. The only difference is I can see and hear the difference while the video is recording.
I've seen posts about this for the I9000 as well as other phones, but none for this specific phone, on top of there being virtually no known fix to my knowledge. I would really appreciate any insight on this topic. I know it isn't being caused by the kernel. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?
I also get that problem but i think i also noticed that problem with stock...my brother's Vibrant also had that problem on stock.. idk why they have that issue
Well I am going to flash a rom on here tonight and see if that yields any results.

try going into cwm --> advanced --> fix permissions. if not. look into icbnb or the audiophile roms. they have a fix for 1080p recording.
Yea..some roms dont have the audio lag..abd audiophile doesnt have 1080p recording yet

On a happier note, I would like to thank everyone who develops on this phone. I couldn't be happier with ICBINB, and the honeycomb theme for that matter. It's just wonderful.
Keep up the good work.

Im planning on buying a tablet for entertainment use as well as school stuff. Right now I'm deciding between the Xoom, the transformer (not the prime, too expensive :/) and MAYBE the iconia a500 but most likely either of the first two. My question is are there any glaring bugs or issues on the transformer that make it inferior?

I've had absolutely zero issues with my TD101. And now that ICS is rolling out to the USA starting tomorrow it'll only get better.
Only thing that drives me nuts sometimes is the slow browser on my OG Transformer. Although everyone who has gotten ICS on their transformer say that ICS made their browser very very much faster. So once I get ICS I'll have no complaints
Also, the reason I went with the Asus transformer is their awesome track record for being very fast with pushing updates! And with the update coming tomorrow, they've proved themselves about that fact

I don't have the keyboard, and I love it, although if you're gonna be doing typing, the keyboard is definitely a plus/must. With extra storage capabilities, and more battery life, it's well worth the money.
If you have any responsiveness issues, there's an app you can download, lurking somewhere hhere in the forums that'll fix it well. Never had a problem myself though. With sound, it's definitely not gonna be like a stereo system, but it's fine for watching videos by yourself or with someone else, even just some simple music playing for background noise. Sometimes, I accidentally cover the speakers while holding it, since they're on the side, but that may just be me on that one.
ok right now my opinion has switched in heavy favor of the transformer. my worse fears were the touch screen being buggy, audio quality being shoddy and horrible light bleed issues. the touch screen issue apparently is resolved by installing that one app in this forum, audio quality doesnt seem like that big of a deal now that i think about so now im just worried about light bleeding. how common is it? I plan on buying a refurbished model from either ebay or amazon from manufacturers, does that increase my risk of light bleed?

Transformer is still a good buy. With the new update, development is starting to come back. Hopefully we'll see a cm9 nightly soon. I still use my galaxy nexus more. That's just me though.
Only con is that, transformer lags on 720 mkvs even on dice player and mx video player. Keyboard dock lags as well. For me that is

hows ics for those that updated?
i cant seem to recall where i found that link that helps improve touch screen responsiveness does anyone have it saved?
i plan on buying a dock sometime down the line but until then i want to keep it in a case. whats a good case i should go for? im assuming cases are useless as soon as i buy the keyboard right?
I know they have a Beta in the wild but I was wondering has anyone gotten this puppy to work on their infinity?

I also installed it but it wasn't working properly...screen was flickering and my mp3 files refused to play....uninstalled until a better version is released.
I tested the 07-26-12 and the 07-30-12 with my HOX and TF700, HOX wouldn't work any more (did work with the 07-20-12 release) but TF700 works fine (as in: it plays video's choppy.. no hardware support, but music is fine)

I've had pretty good luck with it, but have only tried a few videos. I'm not a huge fan of the touchscreen skin they include, but its a start. I think the default skin almost works better. I hope they get the keyboard shortcuts working, as that would be nice with the dock (i've long had them memorized).
It will be nice if more people come out with android/touchscreen specific skins.

galaxy note2 seems like a powerful phone, no interest on its UI but maybe a good phone.

Sorry for my messy expresson( maybe because im in mess....) but I do need some help
Hi. I do own both a DHD and a HOX. Since I bought a 64gb SD for the DHD and installed ICS on it I felt in love with my DHD again.
Don't get me wrong, HOX is a great phone! It's fast, makes great pictures and so on, but it has no place for an external SD card. I do want to have everything on my phone, from music to videos to games. With my HOX I have to watch carefully it's space.
If I were you, I would buy the galaxy s 3.

better than iPhone; you do not need any iTunes like prog to transfer files, you can use OneX int storage as an usb storage as usual, mine is 32gb international model, I had also similar thoughts and hesitations as well at the beginning but this is not really a problem. I can easily transfer my camera shots, videos etc without problem.
The only concern, with my OneX, is wi-fi policy; it goes sleep when screen off, and this turns out a problem if you use it for ex. as remote control for other devices like tv, stereo etc in your home network like me, because reconnection to network is required each time you wake your phone, also the same issue makes streaming music via home network through your sound system unusable, just due to that. Otherwise, if you will not use your phone in that way, no any matters at all.
Note: in some custom roms this is already fixed afaik.

I think that the hox is the best phone on the market. My wife ownz a sensation, which is much better that the desire hd and the one x blows it away! The screen quality has no match and it is really fast. In the initial roms the hox had some problems but with that latest update from HTC everything works great.
I also use a custom rom which makes the one x to fly...
Buy the one that you like, all your options are great phones.
Get a Motorola razr maxx or wait and get a razr maxx hd.
Battery life is almost double, it is made by Google so you will get quick updates and there is an sd card slot.
I wish I knew it existed before I bought my one X.

Google bought Motorola for patents, they aren't in charge of their software updates.
Only Nexus devices get quick updates. No Motorola device (apart for the Xoom which is a Nexus) has got JB yet for example

The screen quality has no match and it is really fast. In the initial roms the hox had some problems but with that latest update from HTC everything works great.
I also use a custom rom which makes the one x to fly...
Buy the one that you like, all your options are great phones.

It's said on the web that the high temperature of the battery would make the screen have yellow spot.is it true?

HTC one x all the way man. Best phone I've ever had, makes iPhone look terrible. It has the most wonderful screen for movies etc and there is loads of awesome devs making the best custom ROMs out there. You won't regret getting one!

It really depends on your network provider. I am living here in a deserted place in U.A.E and i haven't face this kind of problems yet.
If you pick One X, i am sure you'll not regret it, besides from its simple and good looking design, the phone itself is a beast, especially if you unlock your phone and install a custom rom, battery life will surely increase as well.
One x is worst HTC phone
