Hello All,
I have made up my mind to buy a Nexus S now. But I wanted some inputs from you guys before I go ahead and buy it. So here are my questions,
1) Nexus S version available here in India is a Super LCD version. Cost $400, worth it ?
2) Compared to other phones I am sure, "pure google experience" will be great on this phone. Am I right ?
3)Google (Galaxy) Nexus Prime is due next week. Cost of that will certainly be around $600(not tied to carrier). In the wake of this, I feel Nexus S is a better buy.
4)Will Nexus S actually run ICS and further ?
5)As a phone, how would you rate it?
I would try to get the SAMOLED one. Look on eBay or something. I bought the LCD one to compare with my SAMOLED. In my opinion it felt quite a bit thicker and heavier. The screen was a little sharper for sure but it was much less responsive for some reason. I had to tap the keyboard a few times for it to register properly. Also, the blacks, which r the biggest part of the UI for gingerbread and ics, don't look very good on an LCD. And overall, the nexus s is the best phone I've used. I've had pretty much every phone and like this the best.

I've loved the Nexus S. yes we will definately get the ICS update.
Nexus Prime (or whatever) will be out within the next month or so. The Nexus S is a great phone and I love it but it technically is a last generation phone in terms of specs. I would wait for the Prime. If you like what you see, get the Prime, if not the price of the Nexus S should drop.
You could wait till the prime comes out might drive the price down on ether nexus s
But that said its not worth signing a two year contract for, not sure if thatd how it goes on the other side of the pond

Love the Nexus S. I would wait for second generation dual core and buy Nexus S now. By then the price should be down and the software will make use of dual core.

I had the same dilema. I used to own a Galaxy S (SAMOLED version) and I was wondering if I should keep it until the Nexus Prime will come out or to go first through Nexus S.
I chose to go with Nexus S (S-LCD version). Indeed, the blacks are not so deep as the SAMOLED but there are upsides also: 1. S-LCD is MUCH brighter and outdoor visibility is greatly improved; 2. The images do look sharper and also the colors saturation are more natural compared to the vivid ones on the SAMOLED; 3. there is no risk of screen burn-out at all .. so you can use whatever themes with static images as you like.
As for the Nexus Prime: it will come out at around $800 USD (in the begining) and you will find it at ~$500 USD or maybe less after at leat 3-4 months after launch (these are contract-free costs). Looking at this situation I prefer to wait about half year to upgrade to the Prime version. And by doing that I also take no risk in hitting the early OS version bugs.
Just my 2 cents ....

$800 USD off contract? Yeah right. It'll be $530 range off-contract day one. Every off-contract phone is around ~$530 including the Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile.
You're in Romania, so it may be $800 USD there.. but in the U.S. its $529.99
In Europe we get all the gizmos in euro currency but w/o any conversion from USD. A $100 device will cost here €100. So you see ... not everyone gets lucky.

Guys, I really appreciate all your replies. Considering the fact that the Nexus S Super LCD version is $400(without contract, In India mostly thats how it works. Buy an unlocked phone, pop in any sim and use it), I thought I would go for it. I badly need a phone right now. The Prime is about 6 months away.
The prime is certainly not 6 months away.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
For certain parts of the world it is. Maybe not 6 months ... but at least three.
The dual core processor is a big improvement
I own the nexus s (original OLED) and my GF owns a Galaxy S2.
The speed of the GS2 is noticeable faster and the battery last longer. The problem is that is too big for a man carrying it in his pocket.
If you need a new phone now and you are OK with its size get the GS2. If you want a "google" experience install ROM. It will get the ICS for sure.
If you need a phone now and the GS2 is too big get the nexus s (a lot of members in this forum like the SLCD more than the OLED)
If you can wait get the new nexus prime...

I don't know how the Nexus S can get cheaper. You can get the Nexus S I9023 in germany for 237,- Euro while the Nexus One still cost 249,- Euro. I just stumbled over it and now thinking about selling my lovely Nexus One for a Nexus S, because i am not buying a Nexus Prime for 500+ Euro.
Again, thanks for all your replies. I am gonna wait for Nexus Prime. If the screen size is 4.65 inches as told in many places on web then I will go for Nexus S(hoping that price will drop further).
What do you guys say about the Sony Ericsson, Xperia Mini ST15i as a temporary phone? Its about $250. Its got great processor, RAM, Camera. Great graphics, but small screen.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), Very similar to the Galaxy Tab plus!
It looks like Samsung has just taken the wraps off its latest tablet offerings, with the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) -- an ICS-laced follow-up to the company's original seven-incher. Available in both 3G and WiFi varieties, this redux doesn't mark a huge departure from its predecessor, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 LCD. The big changes, however, come in the software department, with the Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 straight out of the box. Other than that, you'll find a three-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA shooter up front, Bluetooth capabilities, and HSPA+ connectivity. No word yet on pricing or availability, but it's worth noting that we first saw this announcement hit Samsung's RSS feed earlier this morning, and it appears to have been pulled since then. It all looks awfully official to us, but when it becomes officially official, we'll be sure to update this post accordingly. Until then, be sure to head past the break for a shot of its backside.

I just got the 7.0 plus last week. So reading all the stuff about the tab 2 there seems like I have no real reason for tab envy right? Or do you think I should return and wait for this?
Well the Galaxy Tab 2 has a slower processor. I wouldn't go and run to return it. The Plus will be receiving ICS and theoretically be faster. At that point hopefully Samsung will release ALL of the source code and not leave some out so people can start developing further for the Plus.
So to answer your question stick with what you have.
Stick with the 7.0+ it's equal or better in all hardware aspects.
This is just an ICS bait-and-switch tactic by Samsung.

And for anyone waiting or regretting a 7plus purchase, don't, our 7plus is a better device. And if it a 1ghz tegra 2 in that tab 2, then our tab is a ****load better. Tegra 2 isn't all that.

While it's tempting to have the latest and greatest I also bought mine last Friday and am completely satisfied with it. To be honest I can't usually tell the difference between one OS and another so having GB or ICS isn't going to do much for me if there isn't a very obvious difference. So I'll be happy with my Plus. Now phones? that's different...
official pricing and dates, good news for us waiting for ICS?

The Tab 2 is using inferior processer, TI OMAP. Theres a reason its able to sell for $249 why its 1ghz, because its not a exynos and mali.
What i want to know is, will all the accessories for the OG 7" Tab work for the Tab 2.
I want to buy the Tab 2 and some of the accessories ie. case, connectors and dock. But i know Samsung always switch up for every Tab they drop and i'm yet to see Tab 2 specific accessories.

Google galaxy note international. Click shopping tab, then set price range from 150 to 1000 and view from lowest to highest. Theres about 5 chinese sites that have them listed as low as 195 dollars new (without the twenty dollars shipping) but still. I can see why there so cheap in china, someone probably gets truck loads for free the they sell them at a low price to sell them quickly. You should look into it. actualwares dot com only takes western union / moneygram. Basically cash transfer. I was interested until I heard that...
Any other sources?
I completely understand where everyone is coming from about the Note.. It's the biggest and relatively slimmest phone out there, however, there is just something about the New GalaxyS3 that is just sexy to me, the HDAMOLED screen everything, not to mention you know it'll be the phone they don't throw away after a couple of months of it being out.. "Cough" Infuse "Cough" lol... j/k.. but really, it's like having someone ask you, "Would you rather sleep with a Victoria Secret Model 'A' or Victoria Secret Model 'B'." lol.. It doesn't really matter, they're both Victoria Secret Models so they're both obviously sexy, so it just comes down to personal preference, Blondes, Brunettes or Gingers.. lol.. For what it's worth I want the Galaxy S3 when it's released in the U.S.. I'll be up for my upgrade about the same time, so it works out perfectly for me..
This will be the phone of my dreams. Will be getting it when it comes out. Will you? :good:

It's nice but the price is a nightmare.
Paying Samsung 650 to unlock and run AOSP on S4.. That's how I see it.
The Google edition samsung galaxy s4 seems a little garbage to me. Why does it have capactive buttons instead of onscreen buttons, hence ruining the "nexus" experience.
Since it has LTE I bet its the qualcomm snapdragon processor, which means aosp roms for snapdragon S4s will be quite stable but exynos one will still have problems.
Anyone wanting a "pure" stock experience better get a nexus 4 or nexus 10.
price is the only problem
I still wonder why onboard storage is so low. Yes, I understand that you can use a SD which can get pretty big, but wouldn't it be better to have more than just 16GB for developers?
Why didn't they just upgrade the damn nexus 4 with LTE. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

High compared to what? If you look at what an unsubsidised, unlocked, off-contract S4 costs in the US, it's $629. The Google version is only $20 more, and that's probably not too bad considering that you should get OS version updates around the same time as the Nexus phones, not 6-12 months later.
If you're comparing the price to what you pay on a contract, of course it's more expensive. When you buy the phone on contract, the carrier pays part of the price because they know they can suck money out of you and you're contractually obliged to keep paying them. You win, but you also lose.
to everyone complaining about a 649 price tag, the GS4 of both variants (exynos and snapdragon) here in australia are like, 699 dollars outright unlocked at the cheapest....
I really don't think the price is that terrible. The S4 is a top of the line device that was not built with keeping the price down in mind. What's going to be stopping people though from just buying a regular S4 on contract or cheaper used then just waiting for this one to come out. Samsung is more than likely going to be providing the drivers therefore that could be of help to such AOSP roms like CM.
I wonder if it would be possible to just put the stock firmware on to carrier purchased S4 and receive updates straight from google that way. I think that should be possible considering the hardware is exactly the same.
everything is ok , just about the high price
Times they are a changin' folks. The days of carrier subsidized phones could be near. Soon we'll have a better feel for what the consumer will pay for a smartphone. This will put the hurt on phone manufacturers to set realistic price and profit margins.
i suspect the S4 Google Edition's initial unlocked price has more to do with taking advantage of bleeding edge, must have, first adopters. You know who you are. Knock yourselves out.
Uhh, $650 is about the price for an unsubsidized, unlocked premium phone. You Nexus folk are a little spoiled with Google selling you phones at wholesale price. GSM carriers would flip if Google sold the S4, wholesale.
It came as a big surprise when Google announced this, but it's an interesting move. I kinda wish they just upgraded the Nexus 4 though... LTE and more storage (or SD slot) and it would be the perfect phone.
like this comment: "All this means is that the modding community now has a stock Android build for the GS4.":silly:

native AOSP without voiding any warranties, with over the air updates that come earlier than any other S4 updates and no chance for bricking and probably a further 6 months or so of native (i.e. none/very few of the bugs) updates after samsung gives up on the S4
Hi,
So after a really long search through every single tablet on the world its only this last choice left to make.
Brand new sealed box Galaxy Note 2012 version (16GB)
vs
refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.
As an owner of the 2012 version, I am waiting for a good deal to sell mine now so that I can get the 2014. Samsung has a bad rap when it comes to updating their pricier android devices, and upgrading hardware in order to secure the validity of the device is one of the only options left for the 2012.
I'm not counting on them releasing the rumored 4.4,2 update for the n80xx line at all.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
If I were you, I'll never touch refurbished stuffs.
But still the choice is yours.
May be 1 other alternatives is just wait until the 2014 edition price drops
I don't have an answer for you but i can tell you I wouldn't get too hung up on which version of android it has. I am constantly updating my phone with newest ROMs and in my experience the difference between jellybean and kit kat or even ICS aren't very noticeable. I just bought a new 2012 version and so far it seems fine to me. I didn't even look at the new one though because i want going to spend over 350.
FYI, in case you didn't discover this, amazon has white ones for 350 and Best buy has gray ones for 350. Not sure if BB has free shipping though.
Thank you all for replying,
That was kinda what I was thinking,
Another question,
Are the ROMs available, still active? do they still updating their self? like atleast once a month?
I'm not an addicted user who changes ROM every week, but I know that atleast for the beggining I would wanna have the option to play with it alil,
Whats the latest official ROM samsung has provided to the device and whats the latest there is out there on the ROM list (ones with touchwiz)?
Thanks again.
There isn't a huge community of users for either tablet as its rather expensive. But even the 2012 edition is one of the most powerful tablets on the market today.
Samsung doesn't do the best at releasing updates but they have promised we will see 4.4.2 on the 2012 edition this year. Tho to be fair the amount of difference I expect it to make is near zero. The only functionality the tablet is missing is wireless display options. The only thing I wish I could change is running touch wiz.
Biggest reason I can see to go with the 2014 is the regular charger. The 2012 has a proprietary connection that isn't easy to find replacements for.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda app-developers app
So........ what did you decide?
I have both versions and can honestly say that apart from my 2014 having the air command feature there is no real benefits from it. There are not many customs roms out for either of them and what there is don't offer anything better than stock imo.

refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.

Refurbished = Someone did not like it and took it back, or worse they took back caused it had a problem and the repair people turned it on and it booted, ha it works, resell it.
Refu
I bought a 2012 refurb a year ago
.......no problems
$300 for a 2012 is high in today's market.
You can find new 2012 on-line for less than that.
enjoy

Samsung Galaxy 2012 (GT-N8000) no doubt!
When you wanna get best tablet by my opinion buy this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...UTF8&qid=1397148945&sr=8-5&keywords=note+10.1 or whenever you want. When do you don't need calling functions get 2012 GT-N8013 it's cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy GT-N8000. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still too expensive. And 2012 have better support, upcoming KitKat 4.4.2 and a lot of custom roms!
But it's only my opinion... Everything is on you! :highfive:
I picked up this one a few days ago, and so far its been great, no issues. To me it was a pretty good deal.
