Is phone unresponsive related to Rooting? Should I reroot with fixed phone? - HTC Sensation

I had sudden unresponsive Sensation that apparently has been fixed / replaced by HTC. I still don't know if this is a hardware or software problem since there seem to be many incidents of these happening on the forum.
In any case, just want some advice...do we think these "unresponsive" issue is related to rooting/ROM...even though it seems to be happening with various ROM. I just wonder if I should try to reroot the repaired phone again.
Also, will the guide for rooting be still valid with maybe some newer firmware/Bootloader that HTC might have reinstalled onto the phone now? I am picking it up today...but I need to unlock the phone to use in Canada..which I did with the guide here before....but I am a little weary about doing it again after what happened!

Maybe it was the rom or some certain thing that you did causing the slow response. Rooting will never ever ever ever lag a phone, custom rims on the other hand usually don't but there's the new ones which still have work to be done. When you get your phone back, boot into bootloader and tell me the hboot version. If its ics I don't think that you can as I think juopuntbear only works on pre rooted phones.
It does seem like the phone itself had some problems.

Well.. the phone came back as HBOOT 1.18...I had to go through the rooting process as I needed to unlock the SIM. So my phone is S-off, rooted, clockwork 5.0.2.0, and super CID.
I am scared to try to install an ICS custom ROM on it now as I am not sure if that process caused the phone to die and there are many phones dying on here running that.
I am thinking maybe I should just update to the official update when it comes out. Hope it's possible with the phone being rooted and S-off etc..

Stock Inspire 4G won't boot past bootloader and will not enter recovery.

My dad came home from work today and his stock Inspire 4G has stopped working. Nothing has been done to it. It simply hard locked and turned itself off. Since then I can't get it to boot past the boot loader. Once it's in the bootloader it checks for the PG98IMG.zip and then doesn't respond to anything else. I have tried numerous battery pulls, connecting to the phone with ADB and so forth but no response from the phone. Any ideas? AT&T has shipped him a refurb, but I figured I would take a crack at it until then since his phone would probably be better than some random refurb.
Sad, seems like it's boot looping: on stock rom, no less. My options will void the warranty, though, as it entails installing custom roms:
1. Push a cooked rom by rooting it. The cooked rom should be clean, but it will be rooted, thus, warranty void.
2. Try looking for stock rom for the HTC Inspire, push that using ADB and have the bootloader use it. Hopefully, it should restore stock settings to your inspire and still be replaced through warranty (i wouldn't know, I haven't sent a rooted phone in to warranty yet)
If that fails, might as well call AT&T and say it's a dud.

You could take the pd98img.zip from the ruu and it would do a clean install and more then likely boot the phone up, unless it is a hardware issue. I don't see the need to root it if all he wants is the stock rom.
Btw you can find the pd98img.zip in the guide stickied in the general section.

Wait, how did you get into the bootloader if you dad's phone is stock?
same way you do on a rooted phone power plus volume down..I think you are confusing the bootloader with recovery.

I think I'll try this. I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem though. My dad just told me that yesterday it was losing signal and then he would reboot it and it would regain signal for a little while and drop it again. May be a radio problem.
LEAVE IT BE. There is no reason to monkey with it if you already got the refurb, just send it away. Just because you want to poke around like bill nye or something might end up costing your dad $450.
I Agree Leave it be

little help to a new user

Hello to Sensation world,
I've just arrived from Sony Ericsson x10 world and i'm new to htc, specially sensation.
I now that my warranty voids if I root my device. Is there any way to return it to stock state, unroot and with stock rom so I can send it to the service if I have any problem???
It's the only thing I wanna now, after that, all the doors are opened!
Thank's in advance

I honestly think the Sensation is the first phone I've had that if you did a factory restore you'd still have to do some work to get S=On...I'd go to the above link to make sure you can do it before taking that risk.
I heard that RUU gives you back S-ON and probably warranty (not sure because I haven't tried it yet)
Oh, and RUU = Rom Update Utility. In case you didn't know because you are new
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Even if you sent your phone back with S=OFF...do they check for that? I sent 2 mytouch 4g's back with S=OFF and it never prevented me from getting an exchange.

I did RUU and it didn't give me S=ON...actually NOTHING I tried work. I wanted to restore my phone back to stock for a exchange because it was lagging terribly. I finally said, forget it..flashed Leedroids which I didn't like then flashed Android Revolution HD, phone stopped lagging after that so I kept it.
I"m pretty new at this so I think my terminology is backwards.
I already s-off and rooted it. Hope not to have any problems...
Sincerely I don't find any difference between the stock rom and the custom roms, and almost the same.
it would be nice to easily turn s-on as needed but honestly? I've returned several rooted phones. Never told I voided warranty...because I don't think they check!

A little late, but if you read the sticky in dev section, it says how to get S-ON back. You will need ADB
Swyped from my HTC Sensation

[Q] Sensation died whilst in use, won't charge, won't switch on.

As the title states, I have a possible brick on my hands, the phone isn't mine and the person who uses it doesn't really mess with overclocking and such, it was running Miks rom GSM, and not overclocked (running at 1.18ghz) No overvolt either, it is an s-off device, before this it was a fully functional sensation.
Basically what i'm told is that the phone was in use and it just switched off.
No lights, no power, have tried three batteries, about 10 chargers, different usb cables, can't get to bootloader or recovery, adb won't recognise it, it appears to be just a dead phone, personally i'm guessing it's the mainboard but i thought i'd ask anyway, there are no signs of water damage or major droppage.
Popped over to dexters unbricking project but as i said the phone won't come on so it won't work.
As i said before it's not my phone, but i'd like to do a friend a favour if i could.
Any ideas?
Before anyone asks, I cannot get to the bootloader or recovery.
Many thanks.
Hope you get it working..but it's becoming quite common and no one seems to have any ideas. Mine did the same thing...and I just had the motherboard repaired!
Yeah, here is the other thread.

On such a popular Rom it is a bit unsettling.
Is it firmware, radio, kernel, or rom?
I hadn't seen this many Sensations die like this back on Gingerbread.
I am not sure...seems to have happened on a few different ROMs...so maybe it's not a specific ROM? I just got mine back and rooted and S-off as I needed the root to unlock the simlock...but I am scared of installing any custom ROMs or radio etc....I am thinking maybe I'll just wait for the official t-mobile ICS update...

I'll be starting a thread to determine just that... I have my suspicions, but I'd like to know in one place what everyone was running.
I was running ARHD 6.6.2 Just flashed the ROM.. and seem to flash fine, able to boot up. Even reinstalled all the apps...then while calling...had this long tone from the phone...and phone was unresponsive...I pressed power button.. and it turned off.
The first time..it actually turned back on....so I thought maybe it's an issue with reinstalling the apps. Then when I called again...after 30sec-1 min...same tone again...then phone turned off and never turned on again...Battery was 100% charged.
I updated the correct firmware since I was already using insertcoin ICS ROM for a while before changing to ARHD 6.6.2
I am scared of installing a custom ROM now....I have rooted the phone again, S-off, Clockwork, superCID....but I am thinking maybe I should just wait for teh official update for ICS and leave it as that.
Can I just to OTA update when it comes out?

Change your CID back to T-MOB010 and you can...
FWIW, what kernel were you running when it took a dump?
I didn't install any custom kernel...I just installed the firmware as suggested.. and also the radio file that ARHD page says we should flash for T-mobile phones....
then flash the ROM as usual. Everything worked...the phone died while running the ROM.
So I need to change CID again to do OTA update? It's ok to leave it rooted, Clockwork, and S-off? Maybe I shouldn't have changed to super CID then?

You can leave it rooted and s-off (in fact you WANT to keep s-off), make sure your stock rom is un-modified, and you need to go back to stock recovery. If you leave superCID then it will not detect the update. It needs to refer to CID to find the correct update package for your device...
I haven't modify the Rom that's on here now. So stock recovery means removing clockwork ? And changing CID...is there a tutorial to do that?..

Did you ever get yours rooted? if so PLEASE tell me how.

I hate to break it to you, but I don't think you have a real HTC Sensation. That means that none of the rooting methods listed in this forum are going to work. You seem to have a boot loader that is designed to look sort of like the HTC boot loader, but its not the HTC boot loader. That means its got am different design so the rooting methods shown here won't find the same exploits to gain root access and s off. Double unfortunately, even if you could get it rooted, none of the Sensation ROMs would work on it.
Sorry, dude.

yes. It's GSM. The biggest problem is the HBoot version is not supported by anything programs like Revolution or Superoneclick that I can find.

You are unlikely to find anything that supports it becuase it's not a real sensation. And again, if you did manage to unlock it it wouldn't get you anywhere because all ROMs, Recoveries, and Firmwares for the Sensation are made for hardware that your phone simply doesn't have. Any attempt to use software made for the Sensation runs a serious risk of bricking the phone you've got. And there is a decent chance that something might actually be able to be installed because who knows how 's-on' that bootloader really is. But if it installs, it will almost certainly brick the phone.
It'd be the same as if you tried to install Samsung firmware on an HTC device. Wrong radio, wrong bootloader, boom...dead.
So if the phone you have works at all for your daily purposes, leave it alone. Just about anything you try to do to modify it will likely kill it.
That being said, most android apps should work on it. It's probably running real Android since Android is open source.
Thanks

Warranty exchange while rooted?

So I have a problem, my HOS is constantly disconnecting from the network. It'll only stay connected as long as I'm not browsing using the 4G network, on Wifi works fine, never disconnects.
At first I heard it was a problem with the TMO network and they were working on updates, so I waited; then I heard it was a problem with the HOS and the TMOB RUU version, and loading a HTC EU ROM would solve the problem; then I heard that it was a problem with the radio, but no one has a consistent method of flashing an updated radio with S-ON (some say OK to flash with Clockwork, others not so much luck, seen reports of soft bricks).
I havent seen anyone really find a solution for this problem. Seen folks say the build.prop needs to be updated (which I haven't tried), others have fixed with different ROMs, everyone has a different solution that only appears to work for them.
FWIW
HBOOT-1.09.0000
RADIO-0.16.31501S.16_2
Running TrickDroid 7.1.0
So my thought is that it's a problem with my device (I got it the first day it came out) so I assume it has to be a manufacturing defect that hopefully a warranty exchange would resolve.
I'm down for reloading stock, but as I recall the minute the bootloader is unlocked the disclaimer appeared. Anyone know how to lock the bootloader?
My other question is, has anyone done a warranty exchange or know if they care if the device is rooted since more than likely they'll just reflash it to stock and put it in the refurb stock. I've done warranty exchanges with G1, N1 and MT4G while rooted and no one seemed to care. But now that the bootloader has the disclaimer on boot, I fear I'll be on the hook for the device since it's rooted.

thanks guys. very excited to hear that the new radio solved the issue. I was waffling between ditching the HOS for a GNexus but the camera on the HOS and the overall form factor kept keeping me near.
I'll try it as soon as I get back in town.
Please let us know if this works for you.
My girlfriend just bought a T-Mobile one s after seeing how nice my one x was, and she has been plagued with radio problems the entire time. I've ran the latest T-Mobile US RUU hoping it would fix the issues but it has not.
Obviously, I'd like to hold out as long as possible with rooting her phone incase she needs to return it. Anyway, let us know how it goes.
