Having problems with unbrading a t-mobile Desire S

Hello folks.
I have an european T-Mobile branded Desire S.
I want to get it unbranded.
I don't know why, but it does not work for me. I get various error codes from the RUU. Wrong ID, no USB connection and not enough battery power
I googled every error code and tried everything that seems to make a difference.
I made a second gold card.
I used an other USB port.
I used two different RUUs. (Yes, both of them for SAGA aka Desire S).
Tried different USB modes.
Calibrated the battery.
Reinstalled the HTC drivers and HTC Sync.
Tried the process doing after a PC reboot, so no programs can interfere.
Debugging mode was activated all the time.
Now I am desperate and asking for your help.

you should provide your ROM, RADIO and HBOOT versions....

Use the un-install feature to un-install HTC Sync, it'll leave the essential drivers behind. Then try again.

Given the HBOOT version that you have you are able to S-OFF you device using the Alpharevx software and then you can install both a custom recovery and a custom rom

Again, you need to read the thread, he has just said that he wanted to get unbranded.
At no point did he say he didn't want to go down the custom route.

I have S-Off and root now.
I am not quite sure what I want. So many different ROMs and other stuff is available now that I have root access. For now I just want to read enough to understand the different programs and not brick my phone or something stupid like this.

Very sensible.
Once you have a recovery installed you can take a nandroid backup, which its a full backup of your device. Download rom manager from the market as this will provide you with a simple interface to perform and manage the backups.

I have wiped everything and installed the LBC Mod, but still every time I start my phone, I get the t-mobile splash screen.

A custom ROM won't change the splash screen. All the rest T-Mobile bloatware should be gone. If you want to change the splash screen, follow this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089658

I had an orange rom and used a rebranding card from fonefunshop have me a generic vanilla rom and removed the splash screen. I know it costs money (a fiver) but it worked.

[Q] Is it possible to completly remove Revolutionary from my phone?

I've checked every possible tag in my mind about this and couldn't find one for Sensation.
Is it possible to revet back to the original state before the Revolutionary. Is it possible to completely uninstall the Revolutionary from my phone?
I'm not talking about the s-off -> s-on
I'm talking about returning the phones software to its original state.
Like it is never installed in the first place.

It's funny because last weekend I wanted to do exactly the same thing.
What I learnt was to go from S-OFF back to S-ON can be quite fiddly and tricky, abd if you mess it up rub the risk of bricking your phone.

Thank you for your answer. But this is not what I want I can do this already but when I check the bootloader I see the pink "Locked" and it tells me that Revolutionary is still there.
I can go to S-On without any trouble that is not what I am asking.
What I am asking is to be able to get rid of every little bit of coding about the Revolutionary and return my phone to its original bootloader software.

If is says locked then ur good since that's what it said when you bought the phone.

When I get my phone there wasn't such writing. It is the product of Revolutionary.
So it is still there. I want to be able to get rid of it.
I'm not asking this about the warranty purposes. I'm asking this because I've realized that after using Revolutionary I can't install any app from market via wireless no matter what I did. Strangely it is fine to surf and download via mobile.
I know this because this is the Second Sensation I've faced having this problem and I remember some user Leviathan(maybe wrong?) talking about wifi dieing after Revolutionary.
So what I need is to get rid of it and be able to install original bootloader(maybe bootloader is not the right term here I don't know).

flash stock hboot, should come with a ruu file, but you can always check if you extract rom.zip from the ruu.exe.

i am saying that you probably have a modified hboot, because of the revolutionary sOFF, just like alpharev. you need to flash stock hboot to get everything back, hboot flashing is dangerous, if it goes wrong youll have a brick.

Removing stock apps

Hi,
I was wondering how to remove the apps that come with the phone on vodafone as i recently changed to 3 or can i flash the 3 ruu to my phone? Thanks

You could flash the Sense 3.0 ROM before the Vodafone upgrade
You may need to create a GoldCard to be able to flash it (if you have a different CID).
But in order to remove any stock apps, you have to be S-Off or HTCdev unlock your phone and either get root on your phone or install a custom pre-rooted ROM.

I want to get rid of the vodafone ones and install the 3 ones how do i do this?

You need to install another HTC RUU (e.g. the European) and you'll be fine.
Is your DS also SIM locked? If yes, you may need to unlock it afterwards.

See this post here on how to create a goldcard. The goldgard is needed in order to bypass the CID check of the official RUU (or to "fool" the CID check). And then you'll be able to run the RUU you want

Do you know why nobody's answering your questions? Because they indicate that you haven't done any reading whatsoever, and you're too eager to jump into stuff you haven't the slightest clue about. I suggest you read up about android in general, how stuff works on this device in particular, read about bricks that have been made off perfectly good phones because of reckless flashing and following the advice of other novices, who have no idea what they're suggesting... And when you think you're done reading, and know everything there is to know,..... read some more!
I only say this because you and your very helpful "guide" friend here are dillydallying with things like RUU, goldcard, CID hacks, etc.... which is more advanced stuff than you're equipped to handle currently, and this thread looks like a disaster waiting to happen.
Do you know what trouble an incompatible RUU can get you into, if you don't use it correctly? Just S-off your phone and flash a custom ROM man... there are so many stock, pre-rooted ROMs available!
Wait. Patience. Read. Tutorials. Guides. Those are what you should be looking for...........not RUU, Goldcard, CID, Misc_version. You're not there yet.

If you haven't figured it out even now...go ahead, make a Goldcard, and flash a 3 RUU on a Vodafone branded phone. See where that gets you. Do you think CID is the only thing an RUU checks when upgrading a ROM?
I'm sorry if I offended you... maybe you could try out what you just suggested to that guy on your own phone and educate me... I seem to have gotten my concepts wrong.

Have to agree with you there, this RUU thing is very dangerous if not handled properly. I've already had an issue flashing the wron RUU, which resulted in my bootloader saying *****Security Warning***** and also i became S-off! Had to take it to HTC, but fortunately they didn't make an issue, and replaced my phone. Have stayed away from RUUs ever since. From what i have read, just making a goldcard is not enough... you need to change Misc_version too, or something like that.

How do i s-off my phone then? Hboot 2.00.0002 and every guide i read says that i have to downgrade is there a way around this? I know you have just said read up but i cant find any guides that say how to s off with my hboot without downgrading

You never provided any details about your phone... I didn't know you were still s-on!! Why didn't you mention that anywhere?

i didn't think it would be relevant at the time, now i know this next time i start a new topic i will include details about my phone. Anyway, the details for my phone are:
hboot 2.00.0002 s-off unlocked with htcdev so what can i do now?

I dont know anything about s-off because i dont have a htc but i do know when you are rooted you can use es file explorer or root explorer to delete apps.In es settings set system as read/write and then navigate to /system/app and delete any apk you want but dont get carried away because you can mess your phone up.Just delete the pre-installed apps you dont want.

First of all I thought that this is a community where everyone in here is supposed to help each other and not to start flaming or using irony to say to someone that he may be wrong.
We weren't all born to be experts or geniuses like you may be so you could be just a little bit polite when saying to someone that "hey you are wrong because from my experience you need to do this or that".
I'm new in the Android platform since I've been an android user for only 1,5 year but I believe I managed to play a bit with it, since for the last 7 months I'm constantly "messing" with my old devices.
And no I didn't get offended, I just don't like to see great communities, as XDA, lose their good name / status.
No hard feelings though.
The S-OFF or HTCdev unlock, flashing a custom recovery and installing a custom ROM may be the "easiest" way to do it, but what if the user didn't want to have a custom rom?
As for me trying the suggested method on my DS, well that's what I did in November to my DS, before I decided to go with a custom rom in January.
My DS, even though I got it from a Greek mobile operator (COTE), it was branded (with CID: T-MOBN14) but without any 3rd party apps. Other friends in Greece with DS have a CID: HTC__001 or another that I don't remember it atm but it stands for HTC_ELL (Greece).
After reading the 6th post of this thread, I simply did what you can see on the posts #286 & 288 in this thread.
I don't know if I got lucky or not but my DS worked flawlessly until the 1st week of January when I decided to unlock it using HTCdev, flash 4ext recovery and install CoreDroid.
Based on what I did, I suggested to deadphone99 to go with the Goldcard solution.
Anyway, I'm sorry if I just got lucky and my suggestion may caused deadphone99 to get a dead phone

[Q] Return to as close to stock as possible

Hi all,
I have an AT&T One X. The bootloader is unlocked but is S-ON. I want to return this phone to as close as stock as possible. This phone is destined to go to another user who knows nothing of rooting and such so I don't care if it is rooted or not.
I understand I have to relock the bootloader to be able to flash an RUU right? Hboot is currently at 1.14.002, Radio is at 0.19as.32.09.11_2. TWRP 2.3.1.0 is installed.
The phone is currently running Cleanrom 6.5 and all works fine. I just want this back to as close to AT&T stock as possible so that the user I am giving the phone to will not have any problems.
If I relock the bootloader can I return this to stock via the most recent AT&T 3.18 RUU located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191477 or is there something else I need to do first?

You'll need to S-OFF first or you'll brick.

Just flash a stock rooted Rom. Most users won't even know it's rooted. And having a custom recovery (even if they don't know they have it) can help if there is ever an issue. S-off so in the future if there's a update it won't brick the phone.

I agree, except for leaving it rooted. I would leave just the bootloader unlocked and S-OFF and RUU, this way the buyer doesn't get shocked or confused if an app asks for root access, but has the option to do whatever they want to their phone if they so decide.

I agree. Couple reasons (both related to RUU). If the new user for some reason needs to recover the phone, and runs the RUU (not unheard of, HTC support will sometimes direct customers to do this), that person will either:
1) Brick the phone, if its left as SuperCID and S-on
2) If S-on (but CID is changed back), and bootloader is left unlocked, the RUU won't run. The person will have no idea why, and will likely be stuck.
S-off solves both of these potential issues. If you are at all worried about the next user. I would S-off, then run the RUU to return the phone to stock. The only thing that would be "not stock" is unlocked bootloader and S-off. But neither of these will mean anything or affect a less experienced user.

I'm going to disagree with the above.
If this person knows nothing of rooting and doesn't care, you should give them a stock phone. Being s-off is a potential security risk that should only be taken by someone who a) knows about it, and b) knows what it means. If you're selling this phone, it's arguably deceptive to give them something with a lurking vulnerability.

Fair point. Switching the phone back to the AT&T CID and locking the bootloader might be the best alternative. Then run the RUU to get it back on stock recovery and ROM.
Giving/selling the phone to an unsuspecting noob with SuperCID and S-on just seems like a bad idea. Worse than S-off.

I've seen bricks after RUUing, even after changing the CID back to default.. It's a toss up I guess. Typically, when I sell my phone or hacked device, I just sell it as being hacked this way people know what they are getting into. Advertising as such has never hindered my ability to sell it either.

That's kind of my point. Selling it rooted is fine, just represent it for what it is. You shouldn't give a modified phone to someone who doesn't know what that even means.

The phone is going to a friend who has a Pantech Burst currently. As someone mentioned I didn't want them to get a SuperSU prompt for root access and have no idea what that means. I tried a stock rooted rom but it kept rebooting. I did factory reset/data wipe and reloaded the rom twice but still kept doing it. I thought it odd too. Cleamrom is acting just fine though.
After hard bricking a Droid DNA which I don't know if it was due to being unlocked and such I'm starting to feel rooting and custom roms isn't for me anymore. The Droid DNA was replaced and the replacement was never unlocked (and since it has most recent software it couldn't be unlocked. Don't get me wrong, I love not running stock devices. It's such a great feeling to get rid of all that carrier added bloat that I most liked.
I've actually moved on from the DNA as well. I'm on a One now from AT&T as my primary phone. And I so hate all that AT&T bloat in there. It's all disabled but still seeing it there just sends chills down my spine.
So now I am not so sure what to do about the One X now. My original thought was RUU back to factory and relock the bootloader and keep S-ON. That way if someone did look they'd only see "RELOCKED".
Makes me miss the easy days when I used a Captivate and Note 1. Those were so easy to use custom roms on.

[Q] htcdev failure

Ok, I have never been more tempted to throw a phone in all my life. This has me VERY irritated.
I got this htc one x on a hunch, was a good deal, seen great roms on here, thought it was a good idea. I've had nothing but trouble. Heres my deal:
I went to the htcdev site to get the boot loader unlocked. Im no dummy, I've gotten into LOTS of phones. This thing is crazy. I've watched 20 videos, used 3 different computers, NOTHING works. ALWAYS says Error Code: Invalid Bootloader Token Length.
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work.
Now this isn't my first rodeo, I read, searched, paused videos made sure I was getting the same info selected, spaces, EVERYTHING that were showing between my screen and the youtube screens. This phone has taken the latest att update. Is this the problem? Has getting into the phone been cut out? Is there another way to get in and load roms? Should I ditch it for a galaxy?

You have supercid, right? The One XL can't have bootloader unlock without it. AT&T Doesn't like for people to use phones the way they're intended to be used

I've never owned a phone so hard to deal with... Everything I read says I need to be rooted, I need to have bootloader unlocked to root, different direction loops I cant seem to break... The noobproof all require bootloader unlocked... there is SO much info, it all points in different directions, and I cant make heads or tails out of it to be honest. I've been reading for 2 days and am about to pitch this thing as far as I can.
I cant find the directions for supercid, just what it does. I normally don't require hand holding... I have an upgrade coming in September.....

Part of my issues is I don't have a charge only mode...

Newest update doesn't have this option. There's a root method in dev section, however you need linux to run the script. But that's easy to make a bootable CD just to run the script. After you root then dev unlock. Then you can proceed to either fastboot a recovery or use goo manager to install the latest. Then flash away...
I recommend you follow the S-off thread too... That way you don't need fastboot to flash boot.img. then if it came with 3.18 firmware, you'll also need to follow the touchscreen downgrade thread if you plan on using Aosp roms.
It's really not hard to do the last 2 steps, but I have to agree you need to go through an a$$load of steps to get the desired effect. But this phone is great with custom roms. Some call me crazy, but if I run carbon Rom tweaked it'll rival my buddies S4 no problem

I actually run Linux on about everything... I am using my wifes computer to do all this, cause it seemed windows was easier. (insert shame here)
Im just use to the one clicks, the easy additions of clockwork in a single flash on the galaxy phones. Im not giving up, but believe you me, there is an note2 or and s4 in my future.

The reason info conflicts is AT&T phones cant use htcdev unlock by AT&T request.
All other evita's can use htcdev fine.
So AT&T phones need root to change cid to pretend to not be an AT&T phone before they can unlock.

If that's the case, you need to go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283760
That will change you Cid so it no longer identifies your phone as an AT&T model. Then, and only then will you be able to use htcdev to unlock your phone.
