Well that's definitely not normal.
But it's not guaranteed to be a hardware problem. Something could be overworking the CPU because of software problem.
The first thing to do is to check if you have a rogue app that's overworking the system continuously.
Or your kernel could be set to run at max 1.6ghz constantly. Try to dial that down a bit and use a scalable processor speed to give the CPU a break when it's not needed. There's very few reasons to run at 1.6ghz continuously.
It could also be fixed with a different kernel. (Or caused because you have a wrong kernel for the ROM, though you'd be more likely to have the ROM not work at all in that case) Try switching kernels and seeing if you have better results.
And if all that easy to change stuff fails, flash a different ROM and see if you get better results. You might even try wiping everything and reflashing your current ROM and starting fresh.

my cpu is in 1.5 ghz. default
latest bricked kernel

HTC sense is a battery drain. Turn of your GPS, auto sync and turn down the brightness, brightness reduces the overheating by absolutely loads. Buy an extended anker, saner or chichtech battery.

I'd be EXTREMELY careful running your CPU at that speed. 1.5 has been considered "safe" by most people, but anything over that and you're tempting fate. Sure, it's cool to see your phone running at 1.8 or 1.9ghz, but your CPU is going to be forced waaaay out of its specifications and it's possible to damage it beyond repair. This is especially true if you are over-volting. Heat + Voltage = CPU Killers. However, even if you aren't over-volting, it could still draw more power than it was designed to do, thereby increasing heat, overstressing CPU and power supply...
So yeah, be careful.
Thanks man i just OC to this point to se what this phone can do i think this is the first and last High Quadrant can reach becauce later on the day i try to repeat the same benchmark and no reach the 3400 points. I think the CPU was enought stressed and now cant handle 1.9 Ghz. freq. but is cool. Right Now im running with LordMod 4 CFS clocked at 1.3 Ghz and works greathe. this give me 2700 +/- Quadrants and its enought power to make all kind of task and apps running a breeze.
Running any LorDMod kernel results in no wifi for me. I'm being lazy with manually pushing the .ko file though, so I dunno.
WiFi works fine here. Im. Use cyanogen mode 7 with lordmod 4.0

[Q] Sensation overheat..

My battery overheats and gets up to 56C!!
Probably because i wiped the battery stats because after i did that it always warms up so much. My battery also drains very fast (after 30 minutes of playing 40% are gone).. Is there a way to fix this problem?
What ROM, firmware, kernel? Are you overclocked?
IMO your battery usage when playing games sounds normal enough to me.
I second what the above poster has said. Are you over locked? Also, I doubt wiping battery stats would make your phone run physically warmer than usual...

Haha 1.51ghz ?? The CPU runs at 1.5ghz by default lol (if u have XE ROM) there isnt no point overclocking by 0.01 ghz
Anyway, Update your ROM ARGD is on 6.6.2 now.. that might improve things.
Also, When playing games the phone does get hot, Mine does it too its normal. Even more so if you have a case covering up the back too !
dont panic you'll be fine, and if by any chance your phone catches fire and burns you.... You can sue HTC and get the newest release for life
Lol thanks for helping.. I can't wait for my phone to catch on fire now
and for some reason my cpu is 1.2 ghz by default. I know phones usually get hot while playing games but 56C is too much isn't it?
well under hardware information it will say 1.2ghz but the actual processor is a 1.5ghz, But it has been downclocked to 1.2 by HTC so they could release the XE version as a 'better, improved version' (which is bull****, Its the same phone)
I only mentioned the fire part cause it was in the news last week lol
i ran cpu benchmark it showed 1188 mhz..

I have experienced this issue too, and i think it has something to do with the way ics handles dual core. Nothing to worry about though I dont think.
Also faux is known for getting hot so wouldnt use that if your worried about your phone getting too hot.
If your phone is getting past 50 degrees Celsius that's when u need to start worrying.

It's normal when its in heavy use or you're using it for a long continous time... But when it gets hot by itself without even using it, not normal... If the second is your case, check what app is continously running without your control of it...
Edit: switching from kernel to the other might make it worse, since they have different configurations and settings.... Make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache before and after flashing kernel.... When I switch kernel to the other.... I Make sure there are no files left behind by the other kernel....

Undervolting my sensation

I'm a noobey and I really don't understand how to undervolt my phone could some explain how to undervolt a sensation for better battery, etc.I would greatly appreciate it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
Under voting works by reducing the amount of power drawn to the phone at a selected frequency. You can do this with an app like system tuner or setcpu. However I can't give you a set of voltages for it, because usually there's minor differences in the hardware of people's phones, which means some values may work for some and not others. I would advise to try reducing the values slowly, and do some research on other people's values to see what they have been able to reduce to.

Is this undervolting I use CPU set and I keep it at min 192mhz to 918 MHz.I thought this was called underclocking.Am I wring or correct. How do you actually set stuff to mv?I don't see and settings on there for mv.and what are all the different things that I can actually down set the mv on.could someone please explain alittle more.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
What you did is underclocking, which saves battery but also reduces performance. Undervolting needs a kernel that supports it. You can set the mV for every mHz. I usually put it 50-62,5 mV lower than the standard voltage.
@ mesaman2012
Download System tuner (or Buy its Pro Version)
Start System Tuner.
Tap on "Voltage" button (in 2nd last row)
there u can increase or decrease the voltage (by -12.5mv to +12.5mv)
after u got ur desired voltage Tap on save to save it.
Simple....isnt it ?
I set all the setting to the lowest +12.5 volts.I hope that's alright.any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I don't know what exact voltage u have set....but whatever u have set, give it a little time to see whether it is stable or not....good luck.

Now download stability test from Market and run Scalling test, leave it for 15-20min,if its stable undervolt one more step the again stabity test for 15-20min.When test crashes rise voltage for one step and thats it

I dont rely much on undervolting for saving battery i mean it just depends on your usage mate or either way get an anker battery
Sent From My Sexy Sensation Running Aokp.
Does the way I have my phone underclocked matter with undervolting at all?I keep my phone at 192mhz to 918 MHz for just normal use.I undervolted everything down as far as it would go then I +12.5 and when I was using it right away my phone shut off.so I then did another +12.5 and now so far its running alright.I'm going to do a scalling stability test next.If I'm doing anything incorrect let me know please I'm just a noobey. Thanks!!!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
The only way the underclocking influences the undervolting is that you have less mHz values to set the mV for, so for example if you underclocked to +/- 1200 you can't set the voltage for 1500.
Who has undervolted there sensation and seen a noticeable gain in battery?would you say you got and extra he or 2 on a full charge?

I'll try to report back in a week or so. I went from running the standard 384-1.51 to 384-1.72, to now running 192-810, testing undervolting as well. Will have to play more for sure.
Previously, I had the screen off, not in call max frequency set to 810, while screen on was stock xe. I noticed quite a bit of time at 810, so something is consuming excessive cpu clocks when the screen is off.
The major bummer I'm coming across is that system tuner cannot undervolt below 800mv. Since the phone is ideally spending most of its time at the lowest fid/vid state (192 or 384 for example), there's a good chance of stability below 800mv. I haven't done too much research yet to see if this is possible with some other means, but this may help a bit in standby. Of course, if I could just keep the damn screen off, I'd probably be in better shape.
How much less battery do AMOLED screens consume? Saw a One S today, and it does look pretty damn sleek.

Thanks. I've been running Faux's kernels ever since I got my Sensation. I wonder if he'd consider adding the feature. How low are you able to go stably below 800mv and at what frequencies? Figure if I'm going to be idling at 192 or 384mhz, I'd like to get that voltage as low as possible.
Thanks for all the great input.should I change to a bricked kernel? If so what version.I'm running v008b4 faux kernel right now should I use a lower version like a v005?

Sensation Queries

Hi,
Now i dont know whether this is the right place to post this question or not but since this seemed like a general query, someone please help me with them:
1- i've been using albinoman887 jb 4.2.2 rom, mikes ARHD 7.3 and now viper 3.1.1 rom. the battery is draining quite fast in all the roms. is there anything called power management that causing the battery to drain fast? is there an apk or something to solve this problem?
2- if the scrolling between screens or within settings or app is slow and the touchscreen response is low what should i do? can installing a different kernal solve this issue? faced this problem with cyanogen mod rom

If you're experiencing battery issues even on ARHD I'd suggest getting a new battery. On Mikes's ROM you should be able to go 15+ hours with 2.5-3 screen time. If you're getting much lower results you might want to get a replacement battery.
Stock batteries on Sensation usually last no more than 2 years.

1) There are ways to improve battery usage. There are apps that drain battery, connectivity, every ROM needs a couple of days to calibrate the battery - so until then battery life will be shorter. You should see what's draining your battery in the settings menu.
2) I don't see any reason for cyanogenmod 10 (or even 10.1) to be slow. for me it runs blazing fast on stock settings (and even downclocked the CPU (which also helps with battery life)). Did you change your CPU settings? having CPU frequency too low can also affect touch response (If I'm not wrong, but some people report this).
Also, when flashing a ROM, remember to fully wipe your phone to prevent bugs.
There are ROMs that don't have a different kernel (like cyanogenmod), so you'll have to do with the included one.

Well i've been searching in the markets here for a new original battery but all i can find are chinese copies. and besides i am more interested in buying a mugen or an anker which are extended batteries but buying them online is difficult here in Pakistan.
There is an Iranian brand I'm using called Pierves. They make replacement accessories for phones. I don't know if they ship to Pakistan, but you might want to give it a try. Www Pierves.com

Those CPU values seem to be Okay. Also, make sure your governor is NOT poerformance, as it locks your CPU to full power while using the phone.
When saying full wipe it does not include the memory card, it's Data+cache, but you should also wipe system between ROMs. I suggest you make a clean install of the ROM, as I find it weird that it won't work properly. Use the latest version available and wipe system, data and cache. Also wipe battery stats. This should clean the device and allow better performance and battery life (should take 2-3 complete battery cycles (100%-0%)).
Also, use Android Tuner and find the option to TRIM your partitions, it could improve performance.
In CyanogenMod -go to developer options and enable "force GPU processing". I don't do it, but it could smoothen up your experience.
