I'd be EXTREMELY careful running your CPU at that speed. 1.5 has been considered "safe" by most people, but anything over that and you're tempting fate. Sure, it's cool to see your phone running at 1.8 or 1.9ghz, but your CPU is going to be forced waaaay out of its specifications and it's possible to damage it beyond repair. This is especially true if you are over-volting. Heat + Voltage = CPU Killers. However, even if you aren't over-volting, it could still draw more power than it was designed to do, thereby increasing heat, overstressing CPU and power supply...
So yeah, be careful.

Thanks man i just OC to this point to se what this phone can do i think this is the first and last High Quadrant can reach becauce later on the day i try to repeat the same benchmark and no reach the 3400 points. I think the CPU was enought stressed and now cant handle 1.9 Ghz. freq. but is cool. Right Now im running with LordMod 4 CFS clocked at 1.3 Ghz and works greathe. this give me 2700 +/- Quadrants and its enought power to make all kind of task and apps running a breeze.

Running any LorDMod kernel results in no wifi for me. I'm being lazy with manually pushing the .ko file though, so I dunno.

WiFi works fine here. Im. Use cyanogen mode 7 with lordmod 4.0

[Q] Overclocking, speeds, profiles, methods

As some of you might know, the HTC Desire S overclocks very well.
I've done alot of research, and I've found no difference between the MSM8255 chipset our Desire S runs on, and the higher clocked MSM8255T (which runs at 1.4-1.5GHz).
I've created this topic to gather some information on what method you use to over/underclock (built-in, custom, app etc), how high you've clocked your device, what governor you're using, and what temperature you're at.
Right now my Desire S runs at 1.4GHz, incredibly stable, ive stress tested for hours (so far) without any errors, maxing at bout 36,5c temp.
My current method is SetCPU, using 245-1401 interactive scaling.
Please post your findings / preferences / device settings.

I never overclocked my Desire S. Ok sometimes he can be slow, but I don't like overclocking a CPU of a smartphone... Maybe it's because I'm scared to blow him up or something, dunno. I just leave it like it was, in my eyes, the best thing you can do

I'm using OC/UV Beater2 which came in Endymion ROM. My DS is overclocked to 1,2 Ghz and it is very stable, never freezes
But I have a question, what is default undervolt settings? Because I think when I set for example -25 undervolt settings, that will come default setting after a while..
So I dont know what is default voltage... So if someone could tell what is though 122Mhz voltage, I would be happy!

Yeah, I've done some research too, and cannot find any differences about the 8255T vs 8255.
Ours are highly capable of going to 1.8Ghz stable.
What are the key differences?

245-1200MHz, interactive governor, using CM7 built in performance control. Phone is very stable, never had any problems because of OC. The highest temp i saw was +34C.

That pretty much sums it up, why the Desire S (some - mine?) overclocks so well..
Same thing they do with desktop CPUs.
Like my old C2D E6600 2.4GHz OCs to 3.4GHz without adding volts and running only on air cooling, 48c after 10-12hrs of stress testing with SLI nvidia cards in the case.
All in all, the MSM8255 and MSM8255T could easily be the exact same chipset/CPU, just at different speeds, some tested more extensively than others.
Has anyone tried running speeds above 1.5GHz+ successfully? 1.5GHz should also be doable, as the HTC Flyer has the MSM8255T and runs at 1.5GHz.

My Desire OC's very well. I can go to 1.8Ghz stable for very long.
(I don't usually OC though.)
I tried 2.0ghz too for about 10 minutes with no issues. but I quickly went back to 1ghz incase I had any issues.

My CPU clock is as in my siggy. I don't undervolt though.

I have overclocked my phone to 1.5GHz almost all time and I do not see any problem, it's very fast and snappy. I use Sense roms, CM7 and ICS without freezes or something like that. Battery life is nice for me, 1 or 2 days of use.

I've got mine oc at 1.2ghz and uv .75 on everything using ocuv and has been stable for weeks now with good battery life.

SmartAssv2: 184mhz - 1017mhz
Screen Off: SmartAssv2 184mhz - 384mhz

Do you use setcpu? Can i use it also on latest stock cm7. 1 for desire s? Or is tiamat necessary? I'm mainly interested in undervolting -> better battery life.

Hi there,
Yes I use setcpu. Tiamat kernel is Undervolted by default which is good.
I'm my experience, I'm getting much better battery life with Tiamat kernel.
Are you on the nightly build or the stable version? I heard a few issues with tiamat on nightly builds, but not too sure!
Also a small note; undervolting doesn't help massively with battery life... the battery gain is minimal. On sense based ROMs, I UV by about 125V and it doesn't make a HUGE difference.
I think tiamat has really good battery llife as it has been exclusively optimised for our 8255 CPU by the brialliant Devs

I'm on latest nighly, which doesn't work with tiamat 1.1.5 (no sound). Nightly fixed some bugs which were crucial for me, so no way going back to stable.
Reason i'm asking: on lowveld's hyperions i got 8-9mA consumption while idle, on CM i'm always at 10-15. The min freq on both is 245mHz, which was suggested as lowest stable so the next difference i thought could be the undervolting... From battery stats i see that phone was not awake...

What bug fixes did the nightlies bring? Please share!
Hmmm... I guess you could just wait for CM 7.2, I think its coming very soon with the bug fixes, so I guess you could go back to stable from there, and use Tiamat.
My lowest CPU clockspeed is 184Mhz on CM (122Mhz on Endymion)
Its very stable for me. No freezes, etc
I use smartass2, so it will throttle up the speed in sleep if 184mhz is too low. When it has many tasks to load etc.
Not to sure how to Manually UV with CM, (as OC beater doesn't work - FC on me)
But on Endymion, OC beater app does the job.

Mainly bugs with voip calls. After htc released kernel sources, Nexx included them into the cm and the voip audio hack was not needed any more... Hopefully cm9 will be out sooner than 7.2

Side note: on sense, i could OC easily to 1.5ghz, possbily more! And it was very stable.
But now with CM7, i OCed to 1.5ghz and it froze... I tried several times too ..
So does software depend on how much the CPU can clock?

Well that's definitely not normal.
But it's not guaranteed to be a hardware problem. Something could be overworking the CPU because of software problem.
The first thing to do is to check if you have a rogue app that's overworking the system continuously.
Or your kernel could be set to run at max 1.6ghz constantly. Try to dial that down a bit and use a scalable processor speed to give the CPU a break when it's not needed. There's very few reasons to run at 1.6ghz continuously.
It could also be fixed with a different kernel. (Or caused because you have a wrong kernel for the ROM, though you'd be more likely to have the ROM not work at all in that case) Try switching kernels and seeing if you have better results.
And if all that easy to change stuff fails, flash a different ROM and see if you get better results. You might even try wiping everything and reflashing your current ROM and starting fresh.

HTC sense is a battery drain. Turn of your GPS, auto sync and turn down the brightness, brightness reduces the overheating by absolutely loads. Buy an extended anker, saner or chichtech battery.

I'm a noobey and I really don't understand how to undervolt my phone could some explain how to undervolt a sensation for better battery,etc.I would greatly appreciate it.

Under voting works by reducing the amount of power drawn to the phone at a selected frequency. You can do this with an app like system tuner or setcpu. However I can't give you a set of voltages for it, because usually there's minor differences in the hardware of people's phones, which means some values may work for some and not others. I would advise to try reducing the values slowly, and do some research on other people's values to see what they have been able to reduce to.

Is this undervolting I use CPU set and I keep it at min 192mhz to 918 MHz.I thought this was called underclocking.Am I wring or correct.How do you actually set stuff to mv?I don't see and settings on there for mv.and what are all the different things that I can actually down set the mv on.could someone please explain alittle more.

What you did is underclocking, which saves battery but also reduces performance. Undervolting needs a kernel that supports it. You can set the mV for every mHz. I usually put it 50-62,5 mV lower than the standard voltage.

Download System tuner (or Buy its Pro Version)
Start System Tuner.
Tap on "Voltage" button (in 2nd last row)
there u can increase or decrease the voltage (by -12.5mv to +12.5mv)
after u got ur desired voltage Tap on save to save it.
Simple....isnt it ?

I set all the setting to the lowest +12.5 volts.I hope that's alright.any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I don't know what exact voltage u have set....but whatever u have set, give it a little time to see whether it is stable or not....good luck.

Now download stability test from Market and run Scalling test,leave it for 15-20min,if its stable undervolt one more step the again stabity test for 15-20min.When test crashes rise voltage for one step and thats it

Does the way I have my phone underclocked matter with undervolting at all?I keep my phone at 192mhz to 918 MHz for just normal use.I undervolted everything down as far as it would go then I +12.5 and when I was using it right away my phone shut off.so I then did another +12.5 and now so far its running alright.I'm going to do a scalling stability test next.If I'm doing anything incorrect let me know please I'm just a noobey. The only way the underclocking influences the undervolting is that you have less mHz values to set the mV for, so for example if you underclocked to +/- 1200 you can't set the voltage for 1500.

Who has undervolted there sensation and seen a noticeable gain in battery?would you say you got and extra he or 2 on a full charge?

I'll try to report back in a week or so. I went from running the standard 384-1.51 to 384-1.72, to now running 192-810, testing undervolting as well. Will have to play more for sure.
Previously, I had the screen off, not in call max frequency set to 810, while screen on was stock xe. I noticed quite a bit of time at 810, so something is consuming excessive cpu clocks when the screen is off.
The major bummer I'm coming across is that system tuner cannot undervolt below 800mv. Since the phone is ideally spending most of its time at the lowest fid/vid state (192 or 384 for example), there's a good chance of stability below 800mv. I haven't done too much research yet to see if this is possible with some other means, but this may help a bit in standby. Of course, if I could just keep the damn screen off, I'd probably be in better shape.
How much less battery do AMOLED screens consume? Saw a One S today, and it does look pretty damn sleek.

Thanks. I've been running Faux's kernels ever since I got my Sensation. I wonder if he'd consider adding the feature. How low are you able to go stably below 800mv and at what frequencies? Figure if I'm going to be idling at 192 or 384mhz, I'd like to get that voltage as low as possible.

Very true ..
I'm running bricked n under volt mine upto 700mV....but it wasn't stable..
Currently running at 725mv n every thing running smooth.

As I said, v1.31 is the stable version, but if u want to try beta, v1.36 is also there..
I'm running v1.35, came with the ViperS ROM.

I downloaded android Turner pro...what an amazing application ...anyways I noticed or rather we all noticed that the HTC sensation phones always over heat and hmmm battery our greatest problem...but still some people wont mind still over clocking the amazing phone...respect to this fone bcux irrespective of the fact that its two years old....it still beats most recent fones hands down and also in my opinion even iPhone 4s can't do most things this fone does...there fore iphone4 can't beat our rooted HTC sensation devices lol if im wrong tell me
ok now lemmi get to the point ,I am presently using semsation v5 Rom.... thanks to kerneldev,the room is sleek and nice...I love it. Using sultan kernel r24b5....I over clocked my HTC XE to 1566 CPU frequency and undervolted it by -64MV the phone was fast...yes but the heat was evil lol ?? and battery life wasnt so impressive ?...so here was what I did to reduce the heat a little...
I downloaded Turbo boost mod 3.v
flashed and install via cwm
then I downloaded android tuner from play store
then I underclocked my phone with the Android tuner to 1182 CPU frequency (this is the default CPU frequency for HTC xe)
then I undervolt using android tuner to 950mv...I pressed save and renamed the setting using android turner...then I pressed on boot by the top left corner of the android Turner screen...I went back to setting the CPU frequency and marked the 1182 settings to on boot also....now reboot the fone.
im a heavy user...my 4g or H network signal is always on....my phone stopped over heating like before...but it still get hot tho...
also u can still keep undervolting with the android turner...but if it gets to the voltage that ur phone's CPU can't handle...the phone automatically reboots itself and set itself back to the default CPU voltage....awesome right?
note: this is just a suggestion....im not responsible for any faulty fone tho and do nandroid backupw as usual...

Hi, Stock Sensation is 1188Mhz, XE is 1566Mhz ....
you can Also Downclock at 972Mhz for max and 384Mhz for min.
Stock fréquencies will be Undervolted normally , I think that its not necessary to undervolt our Sensation.
To what temperature reached your mobile????

I would not recommend downclock below 384MHz for minimum. I had lags and reboots.

Ya im using stock CPU frequency but I undervolted it so it wont b too hot....my CPU temperature Max with heavy use is 62℃ but that's if im charging my phone and playing games

That depends on the hardware in your device. Just because all the chips come off the same assemply line oddly doesn't mean they are all created equal.
I run mine at 192 min and have never had a reboot as a result of it.
Other people can put it on 192 and it'll reboot every single time over and over until they raise the min speed.
The only way to see if your phone can handle 192 is to try it for a day and see if it's stable. It might be, and it might not be. If it's not, there's probably no settings changes you could do to make it better. It's probably a hardware thing.

I have no problem with the minimum frequency of 192Mhz, but as I have to test several Rom, I just prefer to leave the minimum at a frequency goes everywhere so 384Mhz
