[Tiamat kernel 1.4.1) Random reboots on Xoom

Hi all,
I've been having random reboots/freeze-ups ever since I rooted.
This happens regardless of whether I am OC'ed or at 1ghz. These reboots tend to happen when watching Youtube or when browsing.
Would just like to have a feel of the ground if any of you who are rooted experiencing this?
Maybe we can start off by stating the following:
Kernel:
Clock Speed:
OC app: Setcpu or Droid OC
Governor setting: Interactive, on-demand etc..
Last app you were in that caused reboot:
For me, I am on the following:
Kernel: Tiamat 1.41
Clock Speed: 1ghz or 1.2 ghz
OC app: Setcpu
Governor setting: Interactive
Last app you were in that caused reboot: Youtube, browser
Im not sure if this thread shld belong here but since this is Dev where most of us root and OC, I thought I'd ask it here and hopefully we spot some trends with regard to the reboots.

I have the same issue - Canada WIFI version

same problem, Canadian WiFi Version.
Not sure if it's because I flashed 1.4.0 then flash 1.4.1 to get the external sd card to show up. But I noticed after I got the external sd card to work, my usbOTG started working too, but from what I've read that should have been removed in 1.4.1 for stability issues.

Same issue. Using the tiamat kernel. It happens with different apps so its not any one for me.

Switch to Droid oc and delete setcpu. Worked for me. Interactive. On demand is junk on Xoom. I use on demand on DroidX.
The kernel will Max to 1504 causing reboot (on some Xooms). Some device can't handle 1504, mine included. Superuser will throw up an occasional user permission for Droid oc as it brings the MHz back down to user setting.

I was experiencing random reboots with the same kernel, mostly just browsing in Dolphin HD. I first stopped OC in setcpu but the reboots still occurred. Then I uninstalled/reinstalled Flash 10.2 and cleared Dolphin's data.
So far, it seems to be much more stable and even battery usage has toned down.

This shouldn't have been moved to Q&A. There is enough discussion at this point on this exact topic that it needs to be addressed. There is a serious problem with the over clock in the tiamat kernel and/or the software that is supposed to govern the overclock. The developers here work very hard for all of us to get the most out of our devices and I fully support them in their work, but we are putting ourselves at risk. It is my understanding that SETCPU and Droid Overclock are only able to govern One of the Dual Core processors while the other is overclocked all the time. There is a widget in the Marketplace (Temp+CPU V2) that will enable you to monitor your clock speeds.... See for yourself.

I installed temp+CPU and don't see two cores. Only one display for MHz and it cycles from 216 to 1200. Is there a screen I'm missing?

This is right where it should be... Development forum is for developing...Discussing does not go there unless its in a thread where something was developed...The tiamat crew knows all about it...they did not make the overclocking, they used someone elses, and are about to remove out. And yes you are correct on the 2nd core.

Remove it? So no more overclocking? Can't a ROM allow OC and voltage control? But I guess it always comes back to the lack of source code.

Kernel source is available. It's the rest of Honeycomb that isn't.

So what is the best resolution to the problem? I get at least 5-6 reboots a day...I dl'ed Droid OC and deleted setcpu.

I had a harder time getting it to reboot with Droid OC so I think that's your best solution for now.

This is probably the best thing to do. If you think about it; Can't be good if your device is rebooting all the time, plus it's just too annoying.

[Q] Overclocking the Inspire?

Hi guys,
I just flashed my Inspire to the RCMix3D ROM. Is there a way to overclock the Inspire? I've seen a few apps on the market for it, like setcpu, but I'm not sure where a good place to start is. That and underclocking to help save battery life. Sorry if this is a repeat thread. Couldn't find any relevant to the ROM I have.

Imm on a similar ROM. RcMix Kingdom rom and I use CPU master free from the market. I underclock to: 245 and overclock anywhere from 1.2 to 1.7 usually with a conservative setting to save battery life. It works rele well.

Get setcpu from the Market, works great!

Just be careful when overclocking. Don't overclock too high. It can cause issues and if you have set on boot checked, it can a real pain if you set it too high. I usually don't go any higher than 1200 mhz.

coredroid is good
The newest version of Coredroid (v.8.1) allows for a 2ghz overclock! be careful tho, as running the processor that fast WILL make the phone very hot! and drain your battery. If for some reason tho you need the performance, its there.

Have U not been reading the Dec thread. Don't overclock. Set CPU limits the 2nd CPU to 1 ghz and only overclocks one core

you do not need that text file. If the kernel supports overclocking, you're good.

I'm sorry if i was not clear. I meant i wanted to overclock my phone with SetCPU, but it requires a text file because it hasn't been added to the presets yet.

No point, dual-core overclocking has JUST come onto the development scene for the sensation, and it has lol-bugs and is definitely inconsistent for everyone. Until all that can get hammered out, there is no point to overclocking, unless you are one of those nightly guys (I am )
The first thing is that only 1 core gets overclocked, beyond that, only 1 core is active for the majority of the time on the Sensation.
Benchmarks aren't even accurate because benchmarks like Quadrant don't even activate the second core.
However, if you want dual-core active all the time, I recommend flashing ARHD 3.0.3 with the dual-core script. It does work.
Faux Kernel 0.0.8 has come out which offers dual-core overclocking, but it does come with it's own handful of problems. Many are reporting boot-loop issues (IMO it's due to the kernel being somewhat unstable as well as setting too high of an overclock for initial settings) You need to flash the kernel as well as the dual-core script and then manually edit the script in system/etc/dual-core/main_script to set your clock speeds.
I'm going to also repeat what the other said.
SETCPU AUTOMATICALLY DISABLES ONE CORE AND DOES NOT OVERCLOCK IT NONE of the overclocking apps are dual-core ready. Heck, Android OS isn't even ready for dual-core. There have been lots of workarounds to get dual-core supported on these devices from the "factory" itself.

Could anyone help me and either write me an intruction what to do step-by-step or provide me with appropriate topic? I'll be greatful!

You'll need a combination of a custom KERNEL (that supports O/C) and a custom ROM (some come with an O/C daemon built in)
time for some reading.

Ok, so one more question just in case. May I use any ROM with any kernel or I have to match ROM to kernel (or opposite)?

Generally I would say custom roms come with the most suitable kernel.
The easiest way to overclock is to simply download an app from the market that will o/c your cpu.

Although I'd also as that unless you'r e intending on playing games then the desire s should be fast enough without over clocking as ultimately that will reduce battery life.even the sense 3 rooms when configured and optimised correctly don't lag at normal operating speeds

Yes, it would go a little faster
Seriously tho, it might run a little hotter, for a shorter length of time, and be slightly less stable - all depending on how much you overclock it, what settings you use, etc.
Try downloading an app from the market that will overclock your cpu and see what happens.

And NEVER max the oc setting. Some kernels allow up to 1.7ghz but your phone would be fried in a week and be incredibly unstable. Can't recommend going past 1.2ghz if you want your phone to last til your next upgrade date. For the most part though, oc is unnecessary on this phone.

I just read somewhere in other forum, if I overclock my phone, I will have problem on my phone.
Maybe because of the cpu overheat or what?

Basically, yes.
Why not use the phone as it is, and see how you like it? If you do decide to overclock, do it in small increments. Honestly, I find it fast enough at normal speeds, playing games, browsing, etc.

+1 to you. 1Ghz already fast enough. No lagging at all like some other phone.

I was quite interested in this overclocking buisness. I overcloked my phne to 1.7ghz, used it for a while and it froze twice, requiring a reboot.
There was definitely a speed incresas, but 1ghz on lbc mod is already plenty smooth!
Now I've set up setcpu profiles to have myphone only overclocked at 1.2ghz when its chargingand I'm using it. But also a profile to limit the temp at 41degrees to 825-245mhz.
But when its unplugged, u have left it on default at 1024-245mhz on demand. Great battery life compromised with great speed.

Maybe you'll need a voltage bump at 1.7GHz. But even if it's stable, it will definitely be hotter. Not good for long term.
1.1-1.2GHz should be stable for daily use.

Undervolting my sensation

I'm a noobey and I really don't understand how to undervolt my phone could some explain how to undervolt a sensation for better battery,etc.I would greatly appreciate it.

Under voting works by reducing the amount of power drawn to the phone at a selected frequency. You can do this with an app like system tuner or setcpu. However I can't give you a set of voltages for it, because usually there's minor differences in the hardware of people's phones, which means some values may work for some and not others. I would advise to try reducing the values slowly, and do some research on other people's values to see what they have been able to reduce to.

Is this undervolting I use CPU set and I keep it at min 192mhz to 918 MHz.I thought this was called underclocking.Am I wring or correct.How do you actually set stuff to mv?I don't see and settings on there for mv.and what are all the different things that I can actually down set the mv on.could someone please explain alittle more.

What you did is underclocking, which saves battery but also reduces performance. Undervolting needs a kernel that supports it. You can set the mV for every mHz. I usually put it 50-62,5 mV lower than the standard voltage.

Download System tuner (or Buy its Pro Version)
Start System Tuner.
Tap on "Voltage" button (in 2nd last row)
there u can increase or decrease the voltage (by -12.5mv to +12.5mv)
after u got ur desired voltage Tap on save to save it.
Simple....isnt it ?

I don't know what exact voltage u have set....but whatever u have set, give it a little time to see whether it is stable or not....good luck.

Now download stability test from Market and run Scalling test,leave it for 15-20min,if its stable undervolt one more step the again stabity test for 15-20min.When test crashes rise voltage for one step and thats it

Does the way I have my phone underclocked matter with undervolting at all?I keep my phone at 192mhz to 918 MHz for just normal use.I undervolted everything down as far as it would go then I +12.5 and when I was using it right away my phone shut off.so I then did another +12.5 and now so far its running alright.I'm going to do a scalling stability test next.If I'm doing anything incorrect let me know please I'm just a noobey. The only way the underclocking influences the undervolting is that you have less mHz values to set the mV for, so for example if you underclocked to +/- 1200 you can't set the voltage for 1500.

Who has undervolted there sensation and seen a noticeable gain in battery?would you say you got and extra he or 2 on a full charge?

I'll try to report back in a week or so. I went from running the standard 384-1.51 to 384-1.72, to now running 192-810, testing undervolting as well. Will have to play more for sure.
Previously, I had the screen off, not in call max frequency set to 810, while screen on was stock xe. I noticed quite a bit of time at 810, so something is consuming excessive cpu clocks when the screen is off.
The major bummer I'm coming across is that system tuner cannot undervolt below 800mv. Since the phone is ideally spending most of its time at the lowest fid/vid state (192 or 384 for example), there's a good chance of stability below 800mv. I haven't done too much research yet to see if this is possible with some other means, but this may help a bit in standby. Of course, if I could just keep the damn screen off, I'd probably be in better shape.
How much less battery do AMOLED screens consume? Saw a One S today, and it does look pretty damn sleek.

Thanks. I've been running Faux's kernels ever since I got my Sensation. I wonder if he'd consider adding the feature. How low are you able to go stably below 800mv and at what frequencies? Figure if I'm going to be idling at 192 or 384mhz, I'd like to get that voltage as low as possible.

Thanks for all the great input.should I change to a bricked kernel?If so what version.I'm running v008b4 faux kernel right now should I use a lower version like a v005?

Very true ..
I'm running bricked n under volt mine upto 700mV....but it wasn't stable..
Currently running at 725mv n every thing running smooth.

As I said, v1.31 is the stable version, but if u want to try beta, v1.36 is also there..
I'm running v1.35, came with the ViperS ROM.
