*Solved, installed Endymion*[Q] DS 3D v.2 Beats Audio problem - HTC Desire S

I installed DS 3D v.2 today but am having an error with the music app. Every time beats audio is on it crashes.
Does anyone know how I could potentially fix this? Or recommend a similar ROM?

Just flash Endymion and you'll be taken care of...

Haha a bit of shameless plugging?
I would use Endymion, based on the excellent reviews, but at the moment I feel more comfortable with a ROM based on exciting HTC ROMs. Sorry, I'm still paranoid about doing something awful to my phone x]
Once you've released a version based on official Kernel 3 I'll definitely try out your ROM, I'm sure it will be excellent

I'm sorry but I think you are mis-understanding the custom ROM situation. All Sense ROMs are based on the official HTC ROMs as Sense is proprietary software. The AOSP / AOKP ROMs are a different beast as they don't include Sense, but there is no more risk in flashing Endymion than DS 3D. To be honest, there is no more risk in flashing Reaper (which I swear by) either.
Just avoid the ICS based ones until v3 kernel is out if you are not 100% sure about doing so.

Ah right, thank you very much for the information, as you have no doubt worked out I'm very new to this.
What I meant by it being risky was that I thought Endymion was based on ICS and since that hasn't been officially released for the Desire S yet there would be certain issues. I know for instance that the camera doesn't work and stuff with most ICS roms. Once those issues get sorted then I'd be very happy to move to Endymion.
Thank you for the information though

Endymion is based on Android v2.3.5 (GingerBread)
Reaper is based on CyanogenMod v7
ICS is Android v4.x
If you read the ROM threads in the dev forum they will all tell you exactly what they are based on.

Sorry, clearly I'm being stupid. Thank you for your help, I will certainly try out Endymion some time this week (installed Saga 3D today and am still restoring text messages so don't want to start the whole process again before Tuesday)

Not being stupid - just new to it. Trust me, we were all there once upon a time
If you are backing up SMS messages then I would suggest 'SMS Backup & Restore' - I have thousands of messages stored, auto-backup every night and a restore takes less than a minute.
Also, make sure you sync your contacts to your Google account rather than your SIM card - makes life a lot easier.
Also install 4EXT Recovery Control so you can take a nandroid backup of your system when you have it the way you want it, and definitely before flashing a new ROM - saves a lot of time.
Beyond that, you may want to look at Titanium Backup for app and settings backups.
Anyway, have a play and take it at a speed you are comfortable with.

Thank you very much, this has been very useful.
I'm using SMS Backup & Restore but it takes hours to recover my texts :S
Thanks for the advice about back ups, will be very handy

Shameless plugging? Hardly mate. Just stating facts.
And endymion is not 'my' ROM. I'm not the developer (I wish). It's Creator is lowveld...I'm just one of the faithful users.
Advised you to try it out because you really can't expect good support on a ROM like Saga 3D that hardly anyone is using today. Endymion, on the other hand....

Is any one else disillusioned?

Yes, yes I know the benefits of ROM's but man there are really getting on my tits.
I am fed up of things not working, the 'phone locking up, for what some battery and performance improvements that I don't even notice in day to day use.
My DHD admittedly ran better with Lee's and Mikes ROM's, my Sensation ran better in stock and every ROM I have tried have so many issues it's unreal.
If u dnt like the roms, don't use it!!! Haha

It may take a little patience, but it is definitely worth it on some of the ROMs. I have been sticking with Mike's ROMs and couldn't be happier. His latest 3.6.1 has been running flawless for me and many others. I guess you just have to find one you enjoy and keep looking back until it is completely daily stable.
Ops post is quite painful to read an I'm not even a dev, but I guess I understand where he is coming from. But op what you don't realize is that people who post roms go through a ton of work to get to where they are. Believe it or not but I'd go as far as to say that the devs for my phone (motorola milestone v1) know more about the phone than the group of developers from motorola.
Op, I'll dumb it down a little for you, if you need a stable phone stick with what it was when you pulled it out of the box. But if you wish to go a on an epic journey filled with ups and downs of situations where you'll sit there with a huge smile across your face, stick around, thank the devs for the gift they have given you, and if at all possible learn a thing or two while you enjoy your stay.

There are a number of ROMs that are plenty stable. You just have to find the right ones. I'm on CoreDroid 2.4 which has proven to be as stable as stock for me. Don't be surprised if a ROM you run that isn't on stock kernel and runs hacked Sense 3.5 isn't stable.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate all the work the dev's put in, I have only used Virtuous, Leedroid and Android HD but I have never had an install without some issue. Then the next version comes out and you have a different set of issues it's just so frustrating.

No such thing as a bug free ROM, not even stock
OP, try insert coin, a 2.3.4 version (latest is 2.5.5 ver2 w/ bricked kernel) its the best ive used to date, with frequent use, i get 1 day battery life, and with average-minimal use, i get 2 days battery life. no crashes, reboots or sense reloads, 200mb free ram (unless you use a custom theme).
while i would have agreed with the op when dev first started, this is no longer the case anymore. the devs have learned A LOT about this phone, and its builds and have only gotten so much better with time.
the main reason ppl come to XDA is so they CAN flash many, many roms to see what suits them. when i had my HD2 i was a certified flashaholic, new rom every 3 days to a week
with this fone ive settled down quite a bit, but when i new rom/dev comes along, i nand backup, flash the new rom, let it settle and then try it out for a few days and actually give it a chance.
Custom ROMs are fun because there are so many out there, and you can spend time with each one to determine which one fits your needs. If you're looking for a phone that is stable, just use the one that's been working the best for you and improvise, fixing what needs to be fixed so that your phone can do what you require of it.
Using Android Revolution HD 3.6.2 and its stable for me, had more issues with stock ROM.

Should I mod my Sensation?

A few weeks ago I received the ICS update per my HTC. It's brand Vodafone, so with a lot of useless things, but it works very well (some delay sometimes).
If I mod my Sensation with some custom roms, will it be more stable, fast and other things like that or the improvements would be useless?
Thanks!
Will be faster, with less (well, none) Voda crapware.
It changed my life ^^
No seriously when you start to flash rom it's dangerous because you can become addicted to that and you'll start to flash every rom to find the fastest rom.
If you don't want to try all them:
-ARHD if you like sense interface,or CM9.
Bottom line - it will be better than stock
Should you mod? In short, yes.
Sent from my Sensation 4G using XDA
In nearly every case, with all the Android phones I've owned, modding them with a custom ROM has made them better. What you mode with will depend on what you want. Lots of ROMs have one version or another of Sense. One of the really good ones is RevolutionHD, which I used for some time. Fast, responsive, great battery life, no chuff.
However, after I while I realized that I want to go back to the minimalist approach, so I returned to Cyanogenmod, without Sense (Sense is pretty, but a major resource hog, IMHO). You could go with the "pure" CM9 nightlies which are rock stable. Or you could look at OpenSensation, which is built on CM9 but has a few tweaks not yet merged into the nightly builds yet. Also rock solid and stable.
Make sure, whichever way you go, to follow the modding instructions for the ROM, since they vary from one dev/builder to another. The Development topic has all the different ROM threads and all the guidance you need.
Definitely yes.
I got a custom ROM because ICS hasn't been released in my location yet, but when I got a custom GB ROM I noticed how much faster and stable it was. And now there's no way I'm ever going back to stock.
I'm using Android Revolution HD 6.6.7 now.

But a device like that, with a custom rom, become another phone.
The sensation is already a high performance phone (not like the Galaxy S3, but...), that's why I asked, and i've already got the answers
BTW, I don't want to try all the rom on earth CM9 is cool, i like the style of the lockscreen. Anoter rom with sense 4.0?

Thanks! I'll try one of these..
It will be a lot faster, the battery life will increase, more responsive and I like the GUI for stock ICS better than sense. Also, you will have better drivers (hopefully) so it's performance in games will increase.
Do it if you're confident enough to to reap the benefits mentioned above.
If you're not confident then leave it.
YES! You will LOVE it! It's so wonderful to have so Many choices of different Roms! I love trying new ones out but I seem to always come back to my favorite ! Try out the Roms and find your favorite! It is so much more stable then stock. You will be surprised! No force closes, or shutdowns like with stock! It's also very addicting , you will be like, what do I want to try today! Rooting is truely freeing yourself. You will finally have the ability to make your device your own! It's awesome! If there is something you don't like, you just change it! Picking a Rom is a personal thing .what's best for me might not be best for your needs.I highly highly recommend you try out SEVERAL different roms for yourself and then make your choice for your daily Rom! That's the fun part! I've probably tried almost all the ics roms available! See what suits you're needs and style! We are lucky to have such wonderful developers to give us many different choices! So instead of asking what's best in others opinions, see what's best in YOUR opinion! Each Rom has a area that tells you what's working and what isn't, they are very up front about that so read that area, decide what you want, try out SEVERAL different ones then make your OWN choice! For me I really like the lightning Rom. However it might not be for you! So have fun and experiment with different things and form your own opinion. Best wishes and I genuinely hope this helps you out. Happy flashing!

the best ROM is the one that comes when you buy your phone, STOCK. But when you want something customized for your needs, you gotta try those available ROM. for me so far, i have Insert Coin for sense 4 in my phone always also the viper 1.1.0 but I'm still testing other ROM. What counts for when it comes to ROM is performance first then the looks. :good:
Enjoy Hunting :highfive:
I'd agree with trying the custom ROMs and work out what fits best. Like a try before you buy session.
REMEMBER, take Nandroid backups at every opportunity so you can revert to a previous ROM easily. That's probably the most important aspect.
Yep, take a few for a spin! I went from awesome Virtuous to awesome Lightning! Happy Flashing!
Communisation
Lighting
I agree there are just too many ROMS to try them all. But there are also way too many threads of this sort. For all those wondering which ROMS are good here are my recommendations-
ARHD or InsertCoin if you want closest to stock Sense 3.6 with preference to ARHD cos its updated more.
Elegancia Sense 3.6 if you want a tweaked version. I adore this ROM. Themed version available.
ViperS ROM if you want an extremely flexible Sense 4.0 experience. Elegancia 4.0 if you want a themed Sense 4.
OpenSensation for AOSP.
BerserkMode if you want Sense parts with AOSP speed and smoothness. It's probably better than Virtuous Inquisition now thanks to updates and improvements.
MIUI if that's your taste. There are about 3 or 4 threads. I'm personally waiting for the AOSP version update.
New Roms that may be worth a try- Lightning, TRAD Sensation (both Sense 4)
ROMS that you absolutely HAVE to cultivate to your own taste (for purists)- the hyper roms. props to Splder for carrying on Kristofs work.
Others- CM10 by Bruce if you're adventurous and don't mind temporarily sactificing your camera.
Personally I'd start with (Elegancia 3.6 Stock/themed is upto you) its amazing.. ViperS and BerserkMode of of course CM9. After that you have a pretty decent experience by which to judge other Roms. Happy Flashing! Hope this helped you and any others with the same question.

Paranoid Android! Hands down!
The ability to put your HTC into tablet mode is wonderful. As is the ability to custom choose the DPI for each individual app on your phone. After using Gmail in tablet mode I never want to go back to the preschool-like interface Gmail uses by default for phones. And with all the themes available for CyanogenMod you can REALLY customize the look and feel of every visual aspect of your phone's UI. I held out for a LONG time, I thought Sense was "pretty" and the way to go. But I've found ROMS based on AOSP/AOKP/CM run circles around Sense performance wise. Sense is a HOG for resources plan and simple. Install Apex launcher in Paranoid Android and it's quite close to perfect. Fast, themeable, visually pleasing, and the ability to take advantage of the fact your Sensation has an HD display.
That said, if you're still a sense holdout, the Viper ROM wipes the table with pretty much all other Sense based ROMS (though Daemon looks a bit promising).
For a STABLE ICS AOKP ROM, I like the EyeCandy ROM. (I boot into this restore when I need to use the camera as camera isn't functioning in JellyBean yet)
*edit*
Unlike a lot of other posters, I pretty much have tried EVERY ROM available for the Sensation. I have a tech addiction!
After a while the Sense 4.0 ROMS all start looking the same, except for the truly innovate ones that stand out from the pack like Viper, Daemon, Lightning, and RMS Blue Sense.
I tried ARHD, but once I found there were Sense 4.0 ROMS for my Sensation, I never looked back, never bothered trying another 3.6 ROM/ Sense 3.6 just seemed outdated to me at that point.
I prefer AOKP-based ROMS to CM as AOKP lets you tweak a heck of a lot more of the UI as well as system performance tweaks.
And I hate MIUI with a passion. Stay far far away from MIUI unless you really enjoy giving yourself a headache.

You can look in the change logs of the roms and they will tell you EXACTLY what is working and what's not.the developers are very open about that. Each Rom has a area what tells you EXACTLY what is working. So there are no surprises. Most roms have most everything working . They will tell you what's not working on page one. Around the change logs. Always look at that first then you will not have any surprises if something is not working. I really hope this helps you out. So if you find a Rom your interested in just read that area and it will clearly tell you what to expect. Best wishes.

Which custom Sense 4.0 ROM should I install?

Hi XDAians
I used HTC One X of a friend, and I am thinking to have Sense 4.0 on my HTC Sensation. It's running stock ICS ROM.
So please suggest me which custom ROM should I install? That is most bug free and good in performance.
I appreciate your responses.
Hi there, I highly suggest trying out SEVERAL different roms for yourself to form your own opinion. I like lightning Rom because its proven to be fast smooth and very STABLE! But it all depends on your personal likes and goals. You will get all sorts of different opinions with this question. I suggest you read each developers change logs As they are very up front about what is working and what is not. There are many different roms for different tastes and goals. I like sense 4 personally this is why I like lightning. I like to have stability and speed and customization. Lightning Rom gives me all that. But opnions differ. This is why It's always best to try them out for yourself! Remember to make nandroid back ups so you can restore your current Rom without problem if you don't like a Rom or it doesn't suit your needs. This is the fun part! Trust me don't just take sometimes word you MUST try for yourself! We all are different and its wonderful that the developers have given us so many great choices in Roms so go shopping and try out to see what you like best ! With my Rom it has the newest camera and over the air updates which makes it so nice. Your alerted when there is a new update or mod available which is a wonderful feature! Not every one has the time to check for updates so this makes this feature so nice. When there is a update you don't have to download from your computer you do it all on your device. It is very convenient . But I still highly recommend you trying out SEVERAL and see which Rom suits you the best. I hope I've helped! Happy flashing!

The Viper ROM, imho feels the most complete of any sense 4.0 ROM for the HTC Sensation. There's so many UI and performance settings that Viper allows you tweak that other Sense 4.0 ROMS just don't have.
That said there are a few other decent Sens 4.0 ROMs worth trying. The SmartDroid Daemon is a close second, RMS Blue Sense on the list for looking the most visually pleasing, and some people like the new LIghtningROM. I'd say try out all 4, Start with Viper, use it as a basis of comparison against the others. Back each ROM so you can restore it later should you want to go back to it. I've tried all the Sense 4.0 ROMs out there for the Sensation, most of them are indistinguishable from each other, these are the four that really stand out from the crowd.
realsis thanks for an insight and motivating me to flash my phone. I am looking for scroll speed and efficiency with the white interface of Sense 4.0. I have started my hunt and reading changelogs. I hope I will get some thing that I want.
Your very welcome! I'm sure you will find the right Rom ! This is the fun part! The experimenting! have fun and remember to do your backups!

Hi Guys!! I'm new to this site and I am new to android too since i used to own a i-device (I know...mistake...i had to try the enemy first before judging it!) Anyway, I have some experience with Jailbreaking and unlocking and stuff but I am new to rooting. I got an HTC Sensation (factory unlocked) just like the you guys and I wanted to install the Team Venom's ROM on my device. So I was wondering, how harder is it to root your device compared to Jailbreaking for instance? Cuz my phone is still on warranty and i dont feel like messing it up already! Thank you very much for your support!!!
I personally prefer Viper. It offers a lot of customization options, and is quite fast too.
@sches741: It's different for each android phone. It isn't super hard on the Sensation, but I think jailbreaking is easier (I have an iPod).

Its like this man, straight and to the point without being mean. You are not going to find ANY 100% solid ROM that no one has a complaint over. We have 2 ROMS based on Stock OTA Updates that's it. Everything else is a port of this or that or a build from source.
So you ask what do I gain if ROM X has this broken and ROM XX has this broken, well we have gained 2 updates past what HTC wanted us to have along with many more features, all while losing 1080 recording only.

I understand what your saying, not even the stock roms are perfect either. thanks for explaining though. How about in this way then, what is the most stable and fastest, with the fewest bugs?
Get the virtuous infinity 1.33 alpha 3 then get their vi updater apk and update to 1.35 beta 1 ....i am running that with the 3.0.39 kernel imbedded:everything works.....

Just be sure and go to my mirror thread here in my signature and flash the Unofficial All Inclusive Patch along with it. It makes ALL the difference.
CM9.1 found in ROM Manager. Sense = bloatware

I love Sense. For me, the Sense ROMS like VI or MikXE (the one I'm running now) are far more stable and capable than CM9.
They both have their virtues but I'm like you and do love sense. I'm pretty impartial when it comes to either. I just enjoy being amazed at the capabilites of the developers' works that we all take advantage of and yet often critisize. I know I couldn't do what they do.

I had trouble finding the download link for 1.33 alpha 3. Finally found it here at Rootz (traced it from XDA through several pages at VirtuousRom.com and then finally to Rootz).

I assume this "all-inclusive" patch should be flashed AFTER upgrading to 1.35 beta 1?
OH yes. ROM.....OTA...then patch it all.
Need some help from you doubleshot-experienced folk, please!

Where can I find this kernel? I'm looking and am not finding it. I'm trying to mimic your "everything works" setup and I think I've gotten what you said to get except for the kernel. I currently have 3.0.17-Don2x-gecb4581 and am experiencing the following two problems which seem to be very possibly kernel-related (otherwise I wouldn't bother):
1) Device randomly reports no signal when it should have a signal (either toggling Airplane Mode or a reboot always fixes this). Clearly, in this state, data, voice, and SMS do not work, which is quite problematic.
2) Battery randomly reports ~half of the capacity that it's really at (rebooting always fixes this). It's kinda strange - charging it overnight will only charge to 49%. But once you reboot it then it's magically at ~95%. (Yes, I've cleared battery stats.) And it seems to be fairly sporadic - doesn't always do this. Like I said, it's strange...
Also, what baseband should I be on? It's currently reporting 11.59.3504.00P_11.16.3504.20_2.
Lastly, for my "Build number", even though I've flashed the 1.35 beta 1 zip and running the OTA update APK, it still reports as "Virtuous Infinity v1.33.0 Alpha3". Is this right? Seems strange to me. Running the OTA Update apk again states that "The ROM developer has not enabled support for the OTA Updater! Please ask them (kindly) to add support before using this app! (otaupdater.otaid value empty or missing)".
If I've done something wrong, all of the above are the indications of such mistakes. Many thanks!
I don't know what happened unless you maybe got a corrupt download. The Mirrors, Tools.... thread in my sign. will give you another DL site. Post #3 Developer #2
That's the same Radio I have except mine is "00U" instead of "00P" . And that is the way the build reads on mine too. I think the Alpha designation tells the tale tho. Just try a full wipe and a reflash of new DL's. This has been one of the smoothest most solid ROMs I've run once it was patched. I HAVE heard of a couple of phones that didn't seem to like the all inclusive patch though. You might try just flashing those patches as a problem arises and you may get better responses from them. Kinda just a guess tho....
When I want fast, and stable, I go with Virtuous Inquisition. That one has the best day to day user experience for me. The only thing I miss with that ROM is the 1080P camcorder, and my stock camera with face detection, and burst shot that works etc.. The Brute Force TV Out add on is definitely not as good as the stock TV out and I miss that when using the Inquisition ROM as well. However, Inquisition is such a nice user experience that I use is often and keep a good nandroid of it. Even the hardware keyboard works the way I want it to include the Alt and CAPs lights.
When I really want to carry that good camera around and have TV out so I can bring Netflix to a friend's house that doesn't have Netflix, I still find myself booting up Bulletproof 1.0 (Before the green invasion). In that ROM I replaced all the pink apps with the "de-pinked" ones (Lockscreen, Contacts, Messages, Calendar etc.), changed the color of the pink message bubbles (ya know the ones that pop up with a number to tell you how many unread texts you have) to blue and I find this ROM to be nice stable user experience with some extra tweaks and extended power menu thanks to the groundwork laid out by RomanBB and then carried on by Blue6IX.
I'm keeping an eye on the MikTouch ROM based on the updated OTA stock ROM. That is a very smooth stock experience and I really appreciate that the developer (developers?) are still giving the Stock ROM some love and I feel it has great potential for those who don't want to lose ANY of the features that made this phone worth buying in the first place. Personally, I feel the hardware keyboard, camera, and TV out were the main reasons I bought this phone and I'm not willing to give those features up and switch to any other ROM full time regardless of how cool they look or how smooth they run.
I think the hard work by all the developers trying to give MT4GS more enhancements and options is amazing stuff and much appeciated, but Bulletproof and Inquisition are still my favorites at the moment. Unfortunately, neither project sees any further development so take it as it is, don't take it at all, or see what you can do to make them better for yourself.
Oh and if you want the ROM with the best battery life, it's the one with a Mugen 3600 battery...just sayin'. I have no complaints about battery life of any ROM with Mugen under the hood.
[UPDATE] MIkTouch is now my favored stock ROM choice.

Exactly. The only thing that was stopping me from using the CM7 Alpha was that the SD card wouldn't read.
well in regard to this post. i installed Jelly Bean(Vanilla Bean) rom on to mt4gs last night it has good potentioal but it is lackiing in alot places. i was previously using cyanogenmod9 alpha6 i believe and before i was using virtous 1.33 Alpha 3. however i wanted to know in your professional opinions are there any roms for MT4GS i should try. side note jelly bean is fast but cant use stock android keyboard, so i had to download from market those siine and swift keyboard apps to work also the rom is very twitchy. my mt4gs is with S-On. any opinions are welcome thank you.
One of those is a beta and one an alpha. Great work but not quite complete. There are several really great ROMs out there waiting to be tried. All you hvae to do is make a backup of the one you're on and check a few out. Try a few that are actual releases (you should be able to tell from the title) and see what you like. It's ALWAYS the best way.

To S-Off go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17424340&postcount=24
or you can use this form virtuosrom:
[MT4GS][ROM][21-05-2012][Virtuous Primadonna v1.17.0 Alpha 3] Sense 4A - 4.0.3
Anyway, install Titanium backup and remove what u want; thats all.

Ive been searching for a solid rom since I got my phone in late November. Out of the 6 or so roms I have downloaded the most common problems are.
1) Software keyboard doesnt work.
2) USB File copying either doesnt work, requires a paid app or is very slow.
3) Battery drains faster or wont fully charge.
4) GPS becomes hit or miss
5) Support for promising roms suddenly stop, making you wait for someone else to port another rom which has almost the same sort of problems.
Most of the roms are stable, they are missing some critical things.
