I may have ****ed up BADLY (HTC Sensation, Bell mobillity) - HTC Sensation

Alright, let me preface this by saying that I am a huge dumbass who needs to learn how to read.
I rooted my phone today (HTC sensation, on bell mobility in Canada) and wanted to install an ICS rom on it. (The AOKP official build for the pyramid).
Flashed the rom without updating the firmware, got stuck in a bootloop (Booting animation went fine, it's when I get to the language selection screen that things went south, It would reboot and repeat)
No problem, I went into clockworkmod recovery, wiped/resetted the phone then loaded up my NANdroid backup. Everything was just fine, my phone was exactly in it's state prior to flashing the rom.
***Now, remember my preface? I'm a ****ing dip*******. I went on This thread: showthread.php?t=1459767 in the XDA forums, chose the first firmware package for ICS I saw, and put it on my SD card's root.
It's cringe-worthy how badly I ****ed myself. I completely missed the instructions on the OP, installed the firmware from Hboot (the same way I installed clockwork).
I rebooted, it went into the sense boot and started a loop there. Went into the bootloader, and it searched for the image, then gave me an ''Incorrect CID'' error, prompting me to reboot. Same thing happened when I tried flashing AOKP afterwards.
The only way I can do anything coherent with my phone is to boot without the SD card and then insert it.
I'm completely at loss at what I have to do here. Here's what I plan to do, but I want XDA's recommandation.
1. Wipe/Factory reset through Clockworkmod
2. Install the CORRECT gingerbread firmware, CAREFULLY following instructions.
3. Load up my backup.
3. Go back to ****ty stock sense until I can figure out how to do things properly, while sobbing quietly in the corner.
EDIT: My backup was lost when I recovered it. ****, ****, ****. Help me out r/android, I'm completely at loss on what I have to do.

No, I don't even know what it is. I'm just a noob who got too excited too quickly.
Would that fix my problem?

Did you actually manage to install the firmware that's telling you wrong CID? Cause you shouldn't have been able to. If that's the case, just plug in your SD card with a card reader or a buddies phone, use a file manager, and delete the PG58IMG.
Worst case scenario, head to the dev section and read up the rooting guide, there's an optional step called Super-CID, as mentioned above. Follow the directions and when you super-CID, problem will go away for good.
Good news, is that this is totally fixable.

as long as you can get into recovery... there is still ways to fix the device ...
the super cid will let u flash any of the firmware packages u need to flash before going to ICS rom... so would definitely suggest setting that up .. and then flashing the 3.32 package...
after that use recovery and flash whichever rom u would like to..

Yes Each phone comes with a CID - it is a regon identifier for your phone so it will tell you if yours is HTC, vodaphone, orange etc. Super CID is a CID that over-rides that letting you isntall any rom you want.
A normal CID will only let you install that type of rom, eg if you have a vodaphone rom and install an orange rom you will get the CID error. Look here for running Super CID, it is very easy.

LeJust find the RUU for Bell Mobility then connect your device to your computer and then boot the device in to the Hboot and make sure you see fastboot in red in on the Hboot screen. If you do not then ou need to install HTC Sync on your computer. When you do see fastboot in red extract the .zip file for the RUU and then right click on the .exe file and select run as administrator. Then follow all the on screen instructions from the RUU. This should get you going again.
Now to address why you have to pull out your SD card so you can boot into Hboot. You need to delete the PM58IMG.zip file from our SD card as that is what is causing your trouble.

From the Hboot menu I was able to ''update'' it. But I don't think it updated the way it should have. Stock Sense, with Gingerbread, bootloop'ed, and so does AOKP

no super cid gives u ability to flash any rom u want stock or custom but factory or super wipe wipes ur data and made it to factory status
u should see ur cid 11111111 to be super cid no other option use getvat cid comm. again to make sure u r on s.cid status

He's saying superwipe, not super-cid.
To OP, Superwipe is a script that can be used to wipe data, cache, boot, and system. Some roms recommend using it, others just recommend wiping using clockwork or 4ext's default wipe options.

Correct me if I'm wrong, everyone. You said you were trying to install a AOKP rom in OP. Do NOT use Superwipe script for these kinds of Roms, its not compatible. Just giving a friendly advice .

I think you mean to do a Nandroid backup, right? As Titanium only backs up user and system apps and data.

Sorry my bad, Yes a nandroid backup
However a nandroid backup won't backup the boot system nor recovery so after rooting you won't be able to get back to stock without an RUU which matches your current build.
Though it may be possible by temp rooting first, backing up system and recovery, then rooting via alpharev, installing a custom recovery and doing a nandroid backup of the stock ROM. This may provide all components needed to get back to stock without an RUU, though a bit more research to figure it all out

so noone has the RUU for AUs?
and does anyone know how to backup the firmware? or does nandroid to it ? cos i want to upgrade the firmware ..

The RUU .exe contains all you need including the RUU radio, however us it with caution as it'll also update the HBOOT.
EDIT: Oops, just run it on the PC & USB connected and it'll take a few mins and back at STOCK everything.
I have seen many posts where people attempt to S-ON and end up bricking their phone, be careful if you need to S-ON.
That RUU isn't for the XE

Hi guys,
Bought a XE from Voda and tried to s-off = success. Then tried to do the "RUU" and the phone has sh1t itself, rebooting, loop after loop.
I should never have attempted it, I am a noob. Tried wiping cache, dalvik cache, hard reset (all from rebooting into recovery) with no joy at all. Tried flashing another rom from sd card = fail.
Is it a brick?

before you say it, yes, I am an idiot. I have no idea, one of the threads mentioned one (which now I cant seem to find that thread again yet) and I tried it, killed my XE instantly.
I have flashed GS2's before and thought s-off = go flash a rom or any sensation ruu but of course, I am a dill.
Is it a matter of flashing (if I can find it) a recovery image from somewhere for the xe;??

Exactly what is wrong with you? You've posted almost exactly the same thing to the guy who posted in the dev forum about battery stats. Yes, he's a noob, we get it. And yes, it is annoying to see the same questions being posted over and over again because people can't read. And yes, I agree that no one in their right minds should be thinking about messing around with ROMs and firmwares unless they know exactly what they are doing.
But seriously. Grow up. Unless you're telling me you were born out of your mother's womb with all this awesome tech knowledge in your head. If that's truly the case then, please, educate us ignorant mortals.
Now, to the OP: have you read this thread? If you haven't, please go read it properly. I have no idea what on earth you did, you need to give us a step-by-step list of the things you did. I suspect that all you need to do is delete PG58IMG.zip from your SD card and flash a ROM.

Calm down and learn how to properly communicate with people.
Anyway, OP, I shall now describe what you must do:
1. Go to >this< guide and follow step 4 (STEP 4. WRITE SUPER CID [YOU ONLY NEED TO DO THIS ONCE]).
2. Download >this< ROM and put it on your SD card.
3. Boot into the bootloader (when the phone is off, press vol. down + power) and select the recovery option.
4. In the recovery go to 'wipe | format' and select 'format all partitions'.
5. When that process is done, go to 'install from SD card', 'choose zip from SD card', go to the folder where the ROM is located and install it.
6. When the ROM is installed reboot your phone and wait until it has booted.
EDIT: hunter890 just posted a link to a guide, but you can also follow what I wrote. Might be easier for you.

That's very very very wrong. What you should do is just what I described on the previous page. The reason the ROM wouldn't boot was because you flashed the old Gingerbread version of ARHD which won't boot on HBOOT 1.27.
And I still don't understand why you want the untouched ICS from HTC. The versions here on the forum (as example ARHD I linked you to) are better optimized, have no bloatware etc.

Mate these are not RUU, they are just a reference, for example v3.32 is an RUU, Android Revolution HD, Elegancia etc are Custom ROMs based on v3.32 RUU, that's why they mentioned it in there respective titles. Majority People don't flash RUUs, instead they flash custom ROMs made by the devs, they modifies the RUU, and brings it for us with various fixes and Enhancments. I hope my brief post will help make it clear for you.

If you want to flash RUU, Refer to This Guide, and follow the steps carefully, and i think you can go to Sensation Android Development and choose to flash the custom ROMs, in my opinion they are highly enhanced for performance, use Insert Coin or Virtuous Inquisition instead.

You seem to know ur stuff im hoping you can help me.
Brand new stock Telstra HTC One XL (Australia)
Unlocked & rooted, TWRP recovery.
Backed up stock.
Installed a few different ROMs before deciding on one.
Accidentally reset factory from hboot instead of twrp.
Lost stock ROM back up.
Mounted USB & copied custom ROMs back across to sdcard.
Files did not appear on sdcard.
Decided to partition and try again.
On sucessful partition, suddenly all files became visible, despite partition warning "all files will be deleted"
Flashed Viper XL successfully.
SDcard total storage reading as 24gb (32gb stock)
1. if i have done anything to reduce my available storage i want to get it back.
2. id like to go back to stock rom and basically start from scratch with clean stock backup and clean storage.
I found a link to the ATT One X stock rom on the US HTC support site.
I cant find anything similar on the AU site for the One XL.
I read i have to re-lock my bootloader, thats fine i found a tutorial, but i need to find the stock rom.

Also i have no understanding of RUU nor do i have it downloaded.

This is sensation only forum.. But as the question is kinda generic I can help you
Now if you want to go back to stock then options are
1. Restore the stock backup (which you've lost now)
2. Flash a recovery flashable zip (just like a custom rom zip) of stock rom (which makes it almost stock)... You need to find it in the Sensation xl section of xda
3. Flash a ruu..Use this guide as reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26541170 (everything won't apply for you.. But almost 90% of it applies)
As for sdcard data loss.. Backup the current contents of sdcard and do a proper format of the sdcard using sdpartitioner(a good tool for formatting sdcard in windows)
Btw I don't understand why you need a partition of sdcard

It was suggested to me by a mate who has more experience with android than i do.
Thought it might be a good idea to put the back up / roms there.
Just found it odd that after mouting and transferring them, they didnt actually become visible until after the partition was created?
Thanks for the rest of the advice i'll give it a look.
I replied to you here knowing its a sensation forum only because when i searched this was the only relevant thread i found.
I found this tutorial and have followed it to step 5. the point of flashing the recovery.img but i get "error; cannot load recovery.img"
1. Download the correct RUU for your device and carrier!!
2. Charge the battery above 50% or for at least one hour. If the battery dies during the flashing process, you could hard brick the phone!
3. Run the RUU until the wizard comes up. While the RUU wizard is open, find the temporary folder it created. (Open Explorer in Windows and type %temp% in the navigation bar.) There will be two folders with long encrypted names. In one of them you will find ROM.zip. Open it with 7zip and extract recovery.img. Put it in the location were you've installed Android SDK tools. This is the stock HTC Recovery and it is needed to run the RUU.
4. Boot the phone into bootloader (power off, hold down volume and press power) and highlight FASTBOOT using the volume rocker and pressing power. Then connect the USB cable. You should see FASTBOOT USB.
5. Open a command prompt in Windows and navigate to the folder where you installed Android SDK tools. Flash the stock recovery extracted in step 3 above using the following command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6. Relock the bootloader using the following command:
fastboot oem lock
7. Re-run the RUU. It will restore the device to it's original condition, locked (though *** RELOCKED ***) and unrooted.
Once the install is done you'll have unlock the bootloader again using the token you already have from the first time, reflash CWM Recovery and re-root. All this will be 10x easier than the first time.
If you do re-root your phone, be 100% you backup the stock ROM in ClockworkMod Recovery before making changes!

[Q] Is my device bricked or what?

I know there are probably other threads that can help me but I'm really desperate here. I just got my Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) a few days ago and decided to root it and install a custom ROM. This is my first Android device so I followed a newb guide specifically for the Sensation 4G. However, I think I accidentally missed the step describing how to S-Off and I ended up trying to install Cyanogen Mod 9. It installed ok but I got stuck at the boot screen. From there, I tried restoring to a backup I made before installing Cyanogen but it didn't work. Now I'm stuck at the HTC logo. Can anyone help me out? Here are some more details about my device:
*** UNLOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
eMMC-boot
Jan 13 2012, 17:33:34
I think my firmware is 3.32 and the Android version was 4.0.3 although I guess there's nothing on it now.
EDIT: The latest guide I followed shows how to install/flash the stock ICS firmware but I couldn't update the firmware. It says "Parsing .zip" but doesn't go further than that.

I don't have 4ext recovery installed, only CWM. Is there a way to install it even though I can't boot into the phone?
Yeah, just have to flash another recovery (4ext) through fastboot.
If you look around the development section, you'd probably find a guide how to do it, if not PM me, and I'll give you the steps.
Have a look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861 Asskicker's guide, how to flash roms with S-ON. If you don't want to flash the 4ext recovery (I highly recommend to install it!) then you can do Step "EXTRA 1" from that guide and install "boot.img" from the downloaded rom. You find it in the zip file, in the kernel folder. But read the guide, there are plenty of very useful info in it! And to answer your question, No! Your phone is not bricked!

I have a bunch of ROMS that I've tried and they're all on my desktop. Only two of them have a kernels folder, so I guess the other two are using a stock kernel and I can't use them, right? I'll try following that thread you linked me to, hopefully it'll work this time.
EDIT: It worked! Thank you so much! Now if I wanted to install Cyanogen Mod 9 for example, which doesn't have that kernels folder, I would need to S-OFF first right?
If you want to install ROM's without being S-OFF I'm pretty sure you need 4EXT.
And for future reference to all who may find this thread down the road, if you can get into your Recovery (any recovery) your phone is almost certainly not bricked. You may have a lot of fixing to do, but it's almost certainly fixable.
When the splash screen doesn't even come up after hitting the power button or the charing light doesn't come on when plugged in...that's when it's time to worry. (And even then you may have options)

I did the wire-trick to S-OFF my device. WHen I first did that, my only option in the bootloader was RUU and I was about to ask you about that but took my battery out first. Now it's back to normal and it shows S-OFF. However, my microSD card is now completely wiped. I have a backup on my computer, so should I just copy the files back on there and try another ROM so that my WiFi will work?

copy your files into sdcard then reboot your device
about wifi you can flash the boot.img manually(maybe you do not need that because you are S-OFF now)
otherwise flash your rom again

Please Help!

Ok,
So I've used roms on my hd2 and one x, so I thought this would be simple on a friends sensation, oh how wrong was I.
I have unlocked the sensation via htcdev, installed clockworkmod and installed pyramids jellybean rom.
Now I have all sorts of issues, the rom boots then drops somehow straight to clockworkmod. I can't mount the sd card within clockworkmod to try a different rom and the phone is now useless, doh.
How can I fix this please guys?
Did you update the firmware? Are you s off or s on? If your s on you must flash boot image. Download 4 ext recovery, enable smart flash in 4ext. This way you can flash boot image. Please read flashing roms with s on. Also for that rom the firmware must also be upgraded. Let me link you to the guide to flashing roms with s on. This will help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
Someone more knowledgeable than myself can give you step by step instructions to get you out of this pinch. But in the mean time read the link I posted about flashing with s on. It will help in the future. Best wishes not to worry I'm sure you can fix this.

HTC Dev doesn't really unlock it. It only partially unlocks it.
It doesn't s-off the device so you don't have access to the system partition, meaning you can't properly install a custom ROM without a few extra steps. And I don't think you can do it at all with clockworkmod. You need 4EXT Recovery which can flash a ROM with s-on. There's a few extra steps to doing it but it works.
You also have to make sure you have the correct firmware. So if the device was previously on a Gingerbread ROM and you didn't upgrade firmware, it won't work.
Now, the part where it boots then drops back into recovery is weird.
Tell us exactly what steps you did so we can better determine where something went flukely.
I'm CERTAIN it's fixable though.

I've got S-OFF and flashed boot.img with adb.
Will 4EXT allow me to mount the sd card?
Yes it should
Also some roms require 4ext it's a super easy touch recovery to use. You can download from here or the playstore.

Yeah I'm certain it's fixable too , just not sure how, lol. I'll give 4EXT a shot. I have no idea how or why it drops straight to clockworkmod either, I would expect it to reboot to clockworkmod if anything, but it just kind of switches from the rom straight to it, very odd.
If you could point me to a firmware I might need I would be very grateful.
It is universal 3.33 let me get link also 3.32 will work on most ics roms but 3.33 is the newest I'm running jelly bean and use 3.33

If you are s-off you shouldn't have to flash boot.img separately. It will do all that with the ROM flash.
Maybe that's what's screwy. Though a borked up ROM still shouldn't affect SD card mounting in recovery...that is really weird. Do you have a card reader that you can use to check the card out in your computer? I'm wondering if somehow you screwed up the card when flashing the ROM. Maybe it wont' mount because the card isn't formatted properly anymore. Stuff like that has happened before.

Hi,
What does your bootloader say?
hboot etc.
Yes if your s off you simply flash from recovery without boot img. But do update your firmware.

As far as I was aware S-ON just prevented the boot.img from being written via recovery, which can be done with adb. So the only reasons for these issues must be firmware version right?

Hi,
It is a pity you went to HTC to unlock your phone.
I wonder if you can still s-off using revolutionary.
You are going to need to run a RUU,and hopefully get a working phone again.
Try and find a RUU HERE that matches your area and carrier.

Yup. If you have the 1.18 hboot you have Gingerbread firmware, which won't support Jellybean or ICS.
The good news is that you can flash a gingerbread rom and get the phone back to a working state right away if you need to get the phone back to the owner.
The RUU to restore is pretty simple. Then Revolutionary s-off proceedure is also extremely painless.
Reverting back to stock and starting over to s-off shouldn't take more than 15 minutes if you do it right. Then flashing the ICS/GB firmware (3.32 or 3.33) takes 3 minutes. Then the new rom takes 3 more minutes.
Just make sure you RUU to gingerbread and not to ICS. The ICS Hboots are harder to s-off. It's worth adding the extra step to flash the ICS/JB firmware later.
This is driving me nuts, tried 2 ruu's, both failed, if it was my phone it would be out the window!
