[Q] General Development-Related Q&A - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Let's try to keep the Development forum at least a LITTLE bit clean...
Here, I'll start: I'm coming from an Atrix. I've been away from HTC for a long time and I'm trying to get ADB running on my computer. What are folks using for USB drivers with the AT&T One X?

Install HTC sync and kill the sync service.

I ran the Sync installer, but bailed when it asked me to disable the virus scanner to install Sync. I noticed it had already installed the drivers and confirmed with an adb devices. Got the drivers without Sync!

Need help with permanent root please

Will to donate to anyone that can do a remote session and permanent root my Sensation.......I can from G2x and its a big difference.
Every time I go into revolutionary it either can't find my device or it found my device but not able to connect at that particular time etc. Yesterday I got thru but when I put in my beta key it would only reboot twice and then say it got aborted cause it lost connection some how.
Again I'm willing to donate $15+ if you could permanent root thru remote session.
Thanks to all

Sounds like a problem with the driver or USB Cable.
Remove all drivers -> reboot PC -> Install Original HTC Sync Paket from HTC Homepage.
Go in SystemPanel and remove only HTC Sync not the driver package.
Try again
Deactiate Firewall and Antivirus
Windows 7 USer should deactivate UAC -> SystemControlPanel -> Security -> UserAccountControl

I'll help you out ... No need to donate
But I guess we are both 12 hours apart .. If you still looking, drop me a note
Just want to thank everyone for their help......I'M FINALLY ROOTED!!!!!!!
I had no issues the day it was released. But a few days ago I flashed a stock ROM to remove it, then re s-off'd my phone as people had found this improved battery life.
But EVERY time I ran revolutionx, it did some bits, but then kept saying connection lost, after the second reboot.
No matter what I did, it kept saying it.
But I noticed it had flashed s-off anyway and did say revolutionx in the bootloader, so it had actually worked, even though it didnt complete it fully.
I still have no idea why it kept doing it though.

Temp root for latest OTA 2.3.4.?

As the title implies, wondering if any of the temp root methods work with the latest OTA update? I know I could go permanent, but I usually only reboot 1 time a week and I don't mind stock right now. I really just want to use Titanium and freeze some apps.
Thanks

You would have to start by using the HTC Unlock Bootloader process at http://htcdev.com.
Once you have HTC unlocked, then you can install ClockworkMod recovery and then flash and install the su_2.3.63.zip to root your ROM.
Just use Revolutionary as everyone else does, works fine

Yeah, and I was mostly wondering about temp rooting first. I am trying to steer clear from CWM for a bit as it seems there are issues with phone charging. Temp root would be great as I really only reboot 1 or 2 times a week.

Sensation w/2.3.4 and unlocked bootloader not route to rooting

It works with 2.3.4.
BUT not my Sensation w OTA 2.3.4
I am somewhere around a noob or a noob=, but I have tried so many times to root my Sensation and no joy. I have downloaded the Revolutionary "ui" and I only get a brief flash on the cmd window.
I have read that I need to do this 2 or 3 times to get it to work, is this true? Do I need instead to place the revolutionary code at top of the SD mem card? I also previously ran the SDK and got all the way to the congratulations step but nothing else was said to perform, am I lost or did I move to noob- from noob+?
I have a TMO USA Sensation with OTA 2.3.4 and HTC unlock code installed, HELP!

@Chh, use HTC sync on your phone when you plug the usb cable to pc, run Revelutiinary.exe as administrator, it should work. If you're on Windows 7 you may need to reinstall the drivers and run in compatibility mode XP with service pack 2. I had a few hiccups while rooting two different Sensations and this method worked for me. Hope this helps.

The latest OTA update for 2.3.4 has a new hboot version and Revolutionary does not work with this version because HTC has closed the previous root exploit. That is what the OP has been asking about all along.

Yes x2
The tool works with the latest hboot 1.18.0000, but as per my post above you may need to run the tool 2 or 3 times before it works. You will get an error about a comms error and to go get some lemonade. Just reboot phone and rerun the tool.

Rhiannon, wow you are right about the Windows 7 shoulld be run in XP comp mode. I made all the progress in the world even being asked to enter my beta key, however it was rejected (several times). So I will do a fresh download of "revolutionary.io" and unzip it do the XP comp & admin properties hopefully they (the people who make revolutionary.io) are doing some kind of timestamp checking because I entered without any errors the key. If that doesn't work don't know where to turn. Oh by the way I am using a TMO USA OTA 2.3.4 update and the phone has the TMO unlocked bootloader. Yes I installed the new HTCdriver files 3.x x x something, too and removed the HTC Sync.
Now what?
Permanent root does work with revolutionary with an OTA 2.3.4 updated phone. I did it

I'm a noob. I followed the guide and rooted a 2.3.4 phone with Revolutionary just like everyone else. No issues. Phone is running great.
One thing that wasn't clear to me however, was that you need to put the files on the SD card as a zip file. I was being a bit over helpful and extracting them first. Didn't work until I figured that out.
@cch copy and paste the beta key, it's case sensitive, do this by copying the beta key then in the Revelutionary command window, at the top left hand corner right click and choose paste, the other steps I gave you were working so your entering the key wrong. That's the only thing it could be, it took me a Fe times to enter it correctly. Also, Revelutionary will boot into fastboot and it will loose communication, you will have to do it 3 times and then banjo, s off. I hope it works for you. These are they exact steps, it worked for me on two different phones, also the Revolutionary site confirms it is working on the t mouse 2.3.4 update, I had the same ROM as you.
Glad if i helped. Hit my thanks button. Thanks.

HTC Drivers for Tbolt

I am trying to root with the new revolutionary root process and I am looking for the HTC drivers for my computer. Does anyone know where I can find these drivers? I have searched the forums for it and cant find it.. I have even tried going to the HTC website and couldnt find them there! Any help would be great.. Thanks!
You need to look in the TBolt Development forum, look in the forum (rooting) and the Stickies.

Yeap, and after it's installed, you can go through add/remove programs and uninstall all except for the "HTC USB driver" entry (or whatever it is called) -- with no harm.

Can't be done. You have to unlock to get root on AT&T JB.

Stop trying random root methods. This is the only one that works on the 3.18 firmware:

Technically speaking, the Motochopper method is a temp root that allows SuperCID. Then you can unlock the bootloader and get perm root.

As I have already stated, this method is the only one for 3.18.
You were asked what version(s) of Windows are on the computers you are trying, but you didn't answer. If you want the proper help, you need to answer all questions posed to you.
Also, if the USB ports are USB 3.0, and the computer has a 2.0 port, try the 2.0 one. 3.0 is known to cause connection issues for some. Also try different ports (aside from 2.0 versus 3.0). For some reason, using front ports versus back ones (or vice versa) can sometimes cause issues.

If your having this much of an issue. Your not ready to root the phone. There are reasons phones come locked, so people who don't know what they are doing don't screw it up. I suggest reading ALOT more then attempt it. You need a grasp of fastboot and adb commands. If that's over your head just enjoy the phone stock

[Q] newb question, connection issue

Heya,
As title says I'm not really familliar in getting "deep into my htc one x", but now I have an issue and a friend told me to post it here.
Q, When I try connecting my HTC to the PC, it says that my device needs to connect with the latest version of htc sync manager. When I check for updates, it states I already have the latest software available.
Any insights?
Cheers
Try uninstalling all HTC software completely, go to the HTC website download the latest version, and install it again.
