[Q&A] [ROM] CyanogenMod 9 [CM9] - Samsung Infuse 4G

There appears to be no Q&A thread for CM9 currently. I know generally the person who made/ported the ROM would start it, but doesn't appear that that's high on Entropy's priority list. Anyway, there are a lot of CM9 threads wasting space on Infuse Q&A section, so here's this.
Ask any questions about CM9 for the Samsung Infuse 4g here.
It's my first real thread so don't get mad if something isn't right, tell me how to fix it.

Q: I get weird rainbows in recovery and when my device boots? What gives?
A: This is what happens when a Gingerbread or ICS kernel is booted on a device with Froyo bootloaders. You will need to either live with the rainbows (recovery is at least partially usable with the rainbows now) or flash Gingerbread bootloaders. Stay tuned for more info on bootloader flashing.
Unfortunately, the classic "rainbow fix" we used for Gingerbread is not compatible with how video acceleration is set up in ICS. The rainbowfix will just cause the device to crash immediately on boot. (I think this is why jt was not successful with LinuxBozo's CM7 source.)
Q: I'm getting rainbows, how do I flash Gingerbread bootloaders?
Flash the bootloaders from the file attached to this post using Heimdall as follows:
heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin
DO NOT do this unless you are experiencing rainbows, and DO NOT do this until you have confirmed you can flash less dangerous stuff (like kernels) with Heimdall. If the flash fails you will hardbrick!
Thanks to LinuxBozo for confirming, way back in the days of UCKJ2, that Heimdall can safely flash bootloaders from leaks. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18539754#post18539754 - Be warned, once you do this step there is no going back. For whatever reason the Infuse won't flash dumped bootloaders, so there is no known way to return to Froyo and Rogers Gingerbread bootloaders.

Is there anyway to boost the system volume on this build? Would it be in system folder?

Isn't there some app called voodoo louder (free)? or you could even pay for Voodoo Sound Plus, I did that and it's great.
Edit: yes I found it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.louder&hl=en it says paid but it's free. See if that works.

Hey guys I got a infuse yesterday from a friend and its running Entropy CM9 I have some questions regarding it I would be really great ful if someone can help me.
Its running entropy cm9 and I am sure the previous owner did not flashed the GB BL on it as it does have the rainbow screen in recovery but the rom works fine on it without the BL.... am I good without them (bl)?
Can I flash it with GTG ultimate to go back to stock ?
Can I flash any other rom over this through the blue recovery ?

Try a different computer, a few of my computers won't install the drivers correctly and it never lets it connect to odin.

cm9 from cm7 blue cwm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25229595&postcount=376
Everyone will have different experiences depending on where they are coming to CM9 from. The above link is the clean install method. I will say that I came from the CM7 unofficial ROM and blue CWM simply by wiping cache and installing the ROM. I didn't get hung at the samsung screen, but I got tons of exception errors and fc. I went back into recovery and did a clean wipe + wipe cache. Now she runs just about perfect. The OP mentions items that flat don't work and they are basically the same in CM7. Fine with me. LOVE LOVE LOVE ICS on the Infuse.

[Q] Please help. New to rooting and roms.

I have rooted my phone, and am trying to put miui on it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G Rogers. I have looked for instructions on how to do the 3e recovery mod so I can put miui on my phone, but I can't get it to work. I am not even 100% sure I'm on the right track. All the instructions I find are confusing as they ask to put files on but don't have links to download the files, or they just assume I know how to do something, or know what they are referencing. I have rooted my phone, now I want to put miui on. I would be greatly appreciative if someone could give me a hand. Thank you.

It doesn't as the recovery file is in a different folder, and every time you replace with the modded file, after reboot, the old one is replaced back where it was. The AT&T method does not work for rogers. I understand that at least now haha.
Just looking for someone to give me step by step on how to put miui on rogers samsung infuse.

MIUI is tricky. I think to get the latest galnet running, you have to mod and flash the older MIUI first. Jump thru a bunch of pull battery trick before boot up then flash the newer version.
there was some source code issue with xda and muiu link was removed. idk if it was reposted or not.
You may have better luck going back to the muiu dev thread.
otoh, if you wanted Zeus, Bionix, Numas, Victory, you can start with the above.
I don't think rogers or att makes a big different. Same hardware.
as for modded recovery, are you sure are using root explorer correctly?
The simpler method i had luck with is to use adam's heimall oneclick uckj4. then flash a second time with boot loader box checked if you don't already have BL.
then flash the defuse kernel in the second post to give you red recovery. then flash away with rom of choice
edit: if you are already rooted, couldn't you just DL sgskernel flasher from market, and flash gtg's kernel to give you red cwm/voodoo lag fix and then flash the rom of choice? - check out gtg's original post on the pin up.

Look at my later post,
I prefer method is to use adam's heimdall uckj4 one click and follow through all the way until after flashing the defuse kernel to get cwm
if you're soft brick, that will also restore your phone with gb bl.

I tried using Heimdall after that. It came back with an error on the kernel.
I almost hate android devices. There's such a learning curve for rooting/romming every device.

Looks like you're back to stock. I like heimdall but it looks like Odin is what you're comfortable with.
In this qa section, gtg has a thread up for infused v2 rom. You can start there. Go with cwm installation.
Just make sure you have the roms of your choice already downloaded. Instead of using the infused rom, just flash the one of your choice.

Remember to wipe cache and dalvik cache in the advance setting s of cwm

Weirdest thing I've ever seen in my Android life. Help!

OK I'm in front of the weirdest thing I've ever seen in my Android life. Turns out I got my Infuse 4G and turn it back to stock AT&T Gingerbread 2.3.6 using Heimdall One-click Back-To-Stock UCLB3, and in the middle of process it seems my USB port disconnected my phone and I though I would see a brick, but thank God it was not that bad (I thought). I change the USB port and put my Infuse in download mode again, passed the tool again and everything went like heaven (again: I thought). I got my stock AT&T Gingerbread 2.3.6, but I never seen CWM anymore, I just can't because the weirdest screen I've ever seen (you'll see).
I thought my phone was unrooted, so I maded my way straight to SuperOneClick v2.3.3 and begin the simplest process. Well... it was unable to root my phone and believe me, it's not ADB problems, I know it because I can install apps through Android Commander without any problem... so that's the first weird thing I have here.
Until that moment I thought my phone was bad-flashed or something, so I tried with another tool, the mythic Odin with h8rift's [UCKD5] Odin - Stock (Root+3e) and with my device in download mode it never shown itself as COM## on Odin (required to start the process), however I clicked on PDA button, selected the .tar.md5 file and start the process that never started (logically).
So right now I have no idea what to do or where to go.
I'm apologize if I explain every little detail, the thing is that most of the time one get answers starting with "You did this?" "Have you tried that?" I all I want is to avoid that. For example, I have USB debugging, ok? Another thing someone could ask.
Please help me guys. I madded a video so you can see what happens when I try to enter CWM. Even when my phone starts, during AT&T logo screen flashes with a strange distortion. I madded this video and post it to YouTube so you can see what is hard for me to explain.
Please HELP!
I need anything that from scratch clean everything and put my phone shiny.
Best regards.
You have "rainbows" because you don't have Gingerbread bootloaders.
You need to use odin a GB leak or Heimdall a GB leak to correct the problem.
Your initial failed flash on heimdall was due to a bad connection -usb data cord or computer usb port.

from froyo with recovery, you can flash any rom. bypassing the bootloader.
a lot of people do this w/o prob until they run into recovery issue.
i'm not sure re: the exact architecture why this occurs.
the kernel gurus can tell you more.
if you use odin, and install one the gb leaks, you will have that BL, until you do a repartition with gtg's ultimate unbrick which brings you back to froyo. I think you will lose the bl's.
In good practice, I use the 1click heimdall w/ repartition - these are packaged with "official" GB leaks. imho, i believe they are better suited for a base to get to your custom GB rom.
if you're running infused 1.6, there is no needed 'cause it's froyo.
no rainbows there
edit: to each his/her own i guess. the reason why gtg's "unbrick" seems like a life saver is due to repartition with PIT files image.
the heimdall 1 click does the same thing but takes the guess work out from the inexperience user.

[Q&A] jt1134's ICS ROM - First preview release - UNOFFICIAL

Some have mentioned (rightfully so) in the thread in the General section now titled "ICS here: (more to come)" that it is getting quite full of various bug reports and doesn't really belong there. Since I know that jt1134 is building it and doesn't post much on xda (usually uses RootzWiki) I figured I would quickly start a Q&A thread for us to post in so we can leave the other one clean for his work.
This is not an official support thread and its quite possible that jt1134 won't come by here at all. This is simply for everyone to help each other and keep the main thread clean.
A few things that I seem to have gathered while reviewing the other thread:
The link to the post where jt1134 posted the first preview is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24665001&postcount=272
If you flash the recovery from Froyo bootloaders you will get what people refer to as the "rainbow" recovery, this is very colorful and hardly readable. From GingerBread bootloaders it should appear normal
Camera is known to not be working as of the time of this post
Many apps (including Facebook) launch correctly if you shut off GPS alltogether (this seems to be the solution if you find an app that just shuts the phone off upon launching)
External SD card should show up in the /mnt/emmc/ folder (might just be /emmc/)
If you can't get usb mounted to your pc check out this thread for a tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375 (thanks for finding it Axiomkid)

Froyo bootloaders will give an uninterpretable rainbow. Pull the battery then it will become remotely readable in the most extreme senses of the word.
Camera works if you compile it yourself.

ICS! Awesome!!!

Lol ICS is amazing! Tried it, works well. Anyway, tried tablet mode, went all the way to 120 dpi. Jt must have cut it out, heard on other forums 120 does it (GS2), tried that and had no status bar. Going to have to wait to get that to work... or someone (like me lol) makes a mod for it. It runs extremely nice though, definitly my daily.

Not a bug but a question. Has anyone unzipped the recovery file and flashed through heimdall? It is a zimage in there so I assume you would put it in the kernel slot. My PC and Odin aren't friends.
Thanks.

I had thought about that as well.
Reasoning it through, I don't think it will be an issue but haven't tried it yet.
It would be useful though, to have the Boot.bin, params.lfs, sbl.bin and the kernel zimage as a 1 straight shot.
That will give gb bl's and the recovery image kernel.
You feel like testing?

[Q&A] [PORT] [ICS] AOKPCB Broccoli ROM

If you have any problems or questions about this ROM please post them here so we can try and keep the other thread tidy. Also if you'd like to request something or some sort of feature being implemented into a future release ask away in here. I'll try and answer any and all questions ASAP. Hope you guys enjoy our port of this incredible ROM
Umm yes.... Im looking to flash this ROM... what does this do? .
But seriously... Nice... just noticed this... Good idea.
What all is not working on this Rom? I installed it yesterday and the only thing that bothers me is the fact that no MMS files will download when you receive one from anyone. What's the current outlook on the MMS? I think I saw that Bluetooth isn't working either? Also excellent job on the port/build! My favorite so far.

Under developer settings, would using the options "allow GPU rendering" use more batter than if it wasn't in use? Speed seems to improve slightly but enough to be noticeable, is there a really big downside to this setting? Ohh and is there any way we could get some type of security lock built into the rom to have the option to password protect apps? Kinda like MIUI has it? Thanks in advance

Hmmm never had any MMS problems myself at all. You might try downloading the latest build posted in the dev section. It should hopefully fix your problem. And correct, bluetooth isn't working and won't until the kernel issues get fixed. But mainly everything works perfect.

Never used GPU rendering so I honestly can't say for sure. And as for the security lock....never looked into it so I don't really know what adding it would entail.

I have seen it suggested to set mms proxy to 66.209.11.32 in apn settings for some of the other ice roms.
I got the MMS working. Under apn setting "ATT LTE" where it says "PTA" I changed it to say "phone". Works perfect now.

When flashing this coming from GB (2.3.5) i got blue recovery with half the screen filled with "rainbows". I know this is a boot loader problem, and i followed the instructions with double flashing and also every time i boot it up, right after the Samsung logo i get the whole screen filled with "rainbows". Is there anyway to flash the proper ones?

You would need to flash the GB Bootloaders.. You can either use Odin or Heimdell.. I personally used Odin, so thats what i am going to suggest.. HERE IS THE LINK - The part you need is towards the bottom of the page when you go to that link. Here is the part you will need to follow
1.) I have rainbow distortion in recovery or in the boot animation. How can I get Gingerbread bootloaders to fix this?:
You can download THIS .rar file, extract using 7zip, and flash the tar.md5 package in Odin (use the pda slot). Flashing Gingerbread bootloaders will correct rainbow distortion in recovery and in the boot animation. Only flash these if you are having issues with rainbow distortion, and only if you have had success flashing other, less dangerous items in Odin. If something happens to cause a flash of these bootloaders to fail, then you run the risk of bricking your phone. See THIS post and THIS post for more of an explanation of why bootloaders weren't included in the rooted UCLB3 Odin packages.

So just to be clear, you wouldn't highly recommend flashing the proper one's? If you so happen to attempt to flash them and for whatever reason brick the device would you end up with a soft or hard brick, and would it be repairable?
This seems to be an ICS problem, or at least ICS ports for our phones; I have tried two other ICS ROMs, and none of them are playing .wma files, but as far as I have seen are playing .mp3 files just fine. Every time I open try to open up a .wma file it says, "This file could not be played," or "Invalid file extension." Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue of not being able to boot into recovery, either through the power menu or through the 3-button method. I flashed the ROM successfully and can boot into it but i have not flashed GAPPS yet. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to ODIN back to stock and try reflashing everything?
Stuck in Recovery
Ok I flashed Beta r3-beta2 and is stuck in recovery....didn't see any instructions so what or where are the directions to flash from gb? and what can I do to get it to boot?

[Q] Infuse 4g - Broken CWM - ICS 4.0.4 Infinitum Rom

Hello, I am a long-time viewer of xda but a new member, this is my first post.
(and yes, i looked for a similar theard. i could not find one.)
So, onto the problem.
I flashed Infinitum 1.1.1 to my Infuse using cwm recovery. I noticed problems right off the bat when after i had installed the zip, i rebooted into recovery then it got stuck on the samsung logo and i had to pull the battery (a normal event when flashing this rom) So when i pulled the battery and booted into recovery to try again, the cwm recovery was terribly screwed up. The top half of the screen was pixelated, and the navigation menu was off center. I was still able to use cwm to flash the rom successfully, But cwm remains srewed up.
So i tried to reflash cwm recovery using rom manager. but when i rebooted i was stuck in a recovery boot-loop that i had to get out of using odin.
I then flashed the rom again using the same procedure suggested by its developer, and it worked, but cwm is still acting as it was before. (the pixelated top half of the screen and the off center navigation menu. )
So can i get some help? i thought about removing cwm the using some other recovery. I also heard that cwm wont work on ics, but im unsure what it is.
Thanks in advance.
You don't have Gingerbread bootloaders. That's why recovery looks the way it does.
You need to Odin or Heimdall back to Gingerbread stock (I find Heimdall much easier for this) and then flash Entropy's DD kernel to get back into red recovery to flash Infinitum.

Yeah, ICS recovery doesn't play nice with Froyo bootloaders.
AFAIK, there is no way to get Gingerbread bootloaders without reverting to stock. With Heimdall it's an incredibly simple, and quick process. I just had to do it myself a couple nights ago

Yup, it'll work just fine
Just follow all the instructions for Heimdall to a T (there aren't many) and everything will be fine
Yeah...heimdal is the best way to get bootloaders...odin doesnt always do it and no custom rom includes them that i am aware of...
I had written detailed instructions for another person...ill try and find them and paste it here...
Also-dont use rom manager, that thing is known to cause bricks/bootloops so using it is asking for bad ju-ju lol

Have you tried flashing boot loaders?
Here is how to do it...
1) Download uclb3 heimdal by qckster
2) open the program
3) put phone in download mode
4) click flash (leave program open when finished DO NOT CLOSE)
5) after it finishes and your phone reboots, put the phone back in download mode and reconnect to PC
6) click flash bootloader on the heimdal program you left running
7) flash, let reboot and your problems should be gone
Download mode instructions
1) pull battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up + down
4) connect phone to PC with USB cable *don't let go of volume*
Just because you were on gingerbread previously does nit mean you have ginger bread boot loaders...I had ginger bread since the first leaks and did not have boot loaders until a month or two ago when I flashed them using those steps above...
Good luck!

Thank you for posting the guide. I literally just got done flashing GB bootloaders to my Infuse because of the rainbow Recovery when I'm on ICS. I used Odin though and used GB loader that a member posted in the AOKP Uniporn thread. I was scared but there really isn't anything to be afraid of. I tried using Heimdall but dang that was nerve racking because I was trying to use it on Mac and it wouldn't let me do the flash.

Good deal, glad you got it sorted out. And to clear up some confusion that is in this thread: you don't have to flash an entire Gingerbread rom to get the bootloaders. We all have our preferred ways of doing it, but you CAN flash just the bootloaders.
Here is both a Heimdall and an Odin way to get JUST the bootloaders. That's all that is necessary for someone who has rainbow distortion issues on an ICS or Gingerbread rom.:
See the third post (HERE) in Entropy512's Unofficial CM9 thread for instructions on how to flash just the bootloaders using the Heimdall command line. Or, see the answer to question 1.) in the FAQ of the rooted UCLB3 Odin thread which is HERE.

Heimdall is one way to get the bootloaders, and here's how I did it.:
heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin
The second part of your statement isn't true. Odin doesn't do it only when the user can't figure out how to use Odin.
thank you everyone.
Being a creature of habit i ended up flashing to rom and bootloaders using odin. that did indeed fix CWM right up.
