Sense restarts? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Anybody with an att one X experiencing Sense restarts with this phone? This is where commonly you'll be in an app and go back to home and instead you'll be greeted with a loading screen because Android dumped Sense from memory and so has to reload. This is one of the things I hated the most with my Sensation
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I read that people are getting this often with the international version of the One X.
Honestly, I didn't get this problem often even with my old Sensation. And given how the One X has more memory, and Sense 4.0 is reported to be "lighter", I don't understand why this is happening other than some minor bugs causing memory leak, or Sense actually crashed My girlfriend got the One S on tmobile, so I got to played with it extensively for a couple of days and I have yet encountered any Sense restart.
In any case if somehow Sense 4 does get restarted often on the One X, chances are that it can be fixed with a minor software update.

I have gotten it a few times.. However, now that i switched to the APEX launcher i haven't gotten them at all. It seems to be a bug with sense.

its not SENSE restarting, its just ROSIE which is the launcher.....

Same difference.
This is what worries me. I guess I could just replace the launcher but rather not. Sucks.

I haven't had any restarts (unless I change a setting).

Put ADW on it and call it a day. Sense sucks anyway. With ADW its faster than anything I've used including my G2X.

It's software, definitely. There is no reason why a dual-core couldn't handle a game like this. It's just incredibly laggy Sense and bull**** bloatware. Can't wait for S-Off.

Do you have a sensation ,or are u just a troll, sensation is not even close to laggy, I had some issues called in for replacement and the phone I had seemed like it fixed itself , the replacement is smooth as babys bottom and I'm sorry but sense Is ten times better than any other launcher ....and I had them all
install new OTA update and TADA sense is very fast!
OP happened to find game which clearly isnt made properly for adreno or new cpu's.
try dungeon defenders for example.. it runs VERY smooth even though its probably one of the most advanced and heavy load games.
i can speak aboin mine and my friends unbranded : none of these problems. probably a simple cry issue above. do u even own a sensation ?

Agree entirely. Those who haven't witnessed these bugs yet are just downright lucky.
My phone freezes all the time - to the extent that it sometimes takes me more than 30 seconds to hang up a call (since the screen locks and then you can't unlock it... and then it's this whole embarrassing ordeal of power on power off).
Every single time I press home ( which is pretty much the only way to go back - since the back button is pretty much completely unresponsive) - I get the HTC white screen & then loading for 30 seconds.
This phone is slower than my Nexus One. I really feel like I have gone down a notch instead of up.
Sorry to hear of all the troubles with the Sensation. I had to go thru 3 other units before I found one that worked well. I am on my 4th Sensation 4G now. This one seems to be free from the issues mentioned. The 1st one had the lockscreen not responsive issue and also the build quality of the case to the phone was squeaky after 2 weeks of use. The 2nd one had a poor screen. The widgets would have static lines running horizontally thru it. The 3rd one had an overly recessed power button and loose volume button. The 4th was the good one. Thus far its worked well with no major issues. There have been a couple times of quick HTC reboots, but that's bout it. I can live with mild reboots due to low memories.

Can sense be avoided with another launcher?

Im going to be switching to T-Mobile and the Sensation looks like the top phone at the moment. Unfortunately, sense slows this phone BIG TIME. Can i just bypass that with another launcher?
Yes, just install one from the market, push home and it will give you an option. that's just the launcher tho, not the whole system sense integration. But this phone was made for sense (interface not launcher, I personally use go launcher), I haven't noticed any lag.

Yes and no. The problem most people have isn't with the interface but with how much resources it takes up. If you add another launcher you don't reduce the usage of sense. If you just want a different interface then yes you can drop another one on top. From my experience ADW is slow as dirt on this device so i wouldn't recommend that one but i've heard people have had success with launcher pro
For me launcher pro and adw are slow. The but go Launcher runs great. Very smooth.

Its quite sad as the hardware is pretty solid. They killed the phone with the overhead of sense 3.0 though

Yeah even though they are simply overlays and would only take up more resources, I tried both ADW and Launcher Pro (my usual) on my Sensation... both were ridiculously slow to the point of "Well screw this I'm sticking with Sense till they root this thing!"

Well hang on there a sec, I didn't say the phone itself was laggy... in fact quite the opposite this thing flies. It was only ADW/Launcher Pro that lagged it out. I have had NO complaints with it's snappiness at all, and I'm harsh on judging my phones! This one has given me no reason to ***** about the speed... I just prefer stock Android over Sense, which even though it has some great features, still bugs me aesthetically.
I too was worried after I played with an in-store unit and noticed it laggy, but I think that is a simple result of everyone and their mother going in there and messing with it. All I can say is don't take the in-store performance too seriously... mine has acted nothing like the store unit did.

Sense is an entire UI integration made by HTC. It is not just a simple home app that you can replace (although you can replace the Sense launcher with something better like ADW). Unless you install an AOSP ROM like CyanogenMod when the phone is rooted you will NEVER be rid of Sense no matter how many bloatware apps you remove or HTC components you freeze. Period. End of story.
Is there anything about that you didn't understand?

I love to see a post with a mature, dignified, helpful approach... So, what approach were YOU going for?
Listen bud... try to imagine a world where posting unnecessary (ie completely unhelpful and rude) garbage like this does NOT in fact impress anyone. I know man... I sure wish it did too. I'm super glad that ADW runs buttery smooth for you, and had you responded with a helpful "Hey ADW runs great for me, here's how I have it configured..." I would have listened and actually could have respected you. Instead, you post trash like "I laugh at those, I'm right you're wrong" etc... As such I couldn't care less what you have to say.

This phone isn't usable without LauncherPro for me.

Thank God for 3rd party launchers. I can't stand Sense and I have given it every chance as well. Apart from the extremely annoying frequent Sense reboots the phone lags and things feel slower than on my old Incredible. Just switching from Sense to LauncherPro without changing anything else I get back over 50MB of RAM. That's ridiculous, talk about bloat.
I still haven't s-off my phone yet but I'm starting to consider it. Especially when we get stable builds from Cyanogen.

I have been using ADW on it since I got it. I hate Sense and always have. To much eye candy for no apparent reason. Ill take function over form any day of the week.
By the way, I just switched everyone from the other thread regarding this same topic over to ADW from LP and gave them my settings. The 5 that did all agree that ADW is faster than LP with the correct settings. Also, the free version of ADW will not be as fast due to it not having a lot of the settings. You have to purchase ADW EX in order to feel the speed.

I can't figure it out but my phone hates Sense. Even after I uninstalled the Good for Enterprise app which I thought was causing the issues Sense starts slowing down and then craps out after a little while. It literally restarts Sense after every app install or update or even uninstall. I don't think its a memory issue only because there's plenty free but it doesn't happen right after a reboot either. I can't figure it out but it definitely seems like something is leaking memory or corrupting Sense.
When is T-Mobile releasing our update? I'm good using LP for now but it'd be nice to have a proper functioning stock launcher as an option as well.

I was running ADW EX for a few days. It was fast as ****, but I missed the Sense 3.0. Widgets and interface. My phone has no lag at all and works perfect with Sense as well. If it was laggy, I would definitely drop it for ADW. My brother uses Launcher Pro and is a big fan. To each his own.
Totally agree, to each his own.
For me ... this phone is totally usable with Sense...
Each launcher has it's pluses and minuses. There are quite a few alternatives to Sense widgets but none has completely done it for me. Same goes for HTC's apps, especially People/Phone and Email apps.
The major problem with Sense 3 was the many frequent Launcher restarts, which is almost solved now with the custom rom I'm using (CrystalPyramid), been using it for 3 days and it's been as fast as can be for me. I really can't be happier with my Sensation now.
The only two things I really miss about other launchers are changing home number of rows and resizable widgets.

Have you tried playing around with the Memory Usage and other options under LauncherPro's Preferences --> Advanced Settings menu?
I was already pretty happy with LP's performance on my phone, but a couple of experiments with those tweaks made it even better for me. Hopefully it'll make things a little rosier for you too? That is, if you're even interested in LP anymore
I would get the white screen with green HTC logo almost everytime I went out of an app so, started using Launcher Pro. Today just for the frell of it
I decided to download Go Launcher EX. I got say its 1, Free, 2, there are
loads of free themes and 3 customizable!

HELP--HTC sense has stopped unexpectedly- wtf

for like the past week my sensation has been telling me that "htc sense has stopped unexpectedly" it does it in random places, nothing i have been able to track. then whenever im done doing whatever im doing and push the home button the white HTC splash screen pops up with the green writing and then starts loading as if i had just restarted the phone.
any idea????
Had similar issues before rooting/CM7A... got that white HTC screen almost every time I went back to home screen. Was thinking maybe a resource issue?
any idea how to fix it, its annoying as hellllllzz
I fixed it by rooting and installing CM7 Alpha.
my phone is rooted too but im still having the problem, are you still using the sense launcher? i kept the stock rom and everything, just rooted to freeze the bloatware
have you tried to clear data in htc sense?
i'm having this problem after install kernel looks like no solution for me if wanna use custom kernel
CoreDroid fixed the issue. Try it. Plus it's themed and let's you turn on and off tge Spinning SENSE animation and colors of the clock, etc.

Ive tried all the fixes, clear data.
Best one so far is to remove the new funky android Market app and go back to the old style one. Sense is only rebooting a few times a day now, not all the time.
Im on Stock Vodafone ROm, 2.3.4 No Root etc...
Bloke
Just back everything up (not system files) and factory reset and reflash. Its from a Dodgey install

Multitasking Fix?

I believe that one of the devs on here said they found HTC's framework to be killing tasks way before they should be, any chance that this will be documented for use with all 2012 HTC phones? Many phones like the Evo LTE, One X, One S, etc, are running into this issue, and it seems to be a very common problem.
My boyfriends' HTC Raider just received a 4.0.3 update from gingerbread going from sense 3.5 to 3.6, and suddenly multitasking on his is just like my One X... I really loathe this new direction HTC's taking.

I read about how there's some HTC code that basically forces tasks to hibernate/kill after a certain amount of time, and I thought that might be a big reason why multitasking is broken.
Why are there still threads about multitasking? The 4.0.4 largely fixes multitasking problem.

Ditto. Post AT&T update I've yet to have the multitasking issues. I'm not sure if HTC did something to improve multitasking or if things just aren't flagged to be killed as fast because there is more RAM available upon boot up.
The issue has become a non issue post update for me though.
The update certainly fixed mine, and I HATED it before. Browser no longer reloads when I switch back, nor does Tapatalk, both of which were notorious culprits. Sense doesn't crash when coming out of gameplay now, either.
I went from less than 200mb of free RAM on a reboot to between 350-400mb of free RAM.
To me, multitasking is night and day different on 4.0.4.

Every other post is saying how much multitasking improved, so go install CleanRom or other 4.0.4 based rom and judge for yourself. I ran 4 apps last night for an hour between Chrome, Facebook, Phone, Message, etc and multitasked them no problem with a ton of screen on/off. None of them had to reload once. It's not perfect, but to say not even close is a retarded statement.
The main problem with multitasking is that by default, it's limited to 15 apps max, so unless it's running as a service, there can only be 15 apps running at once. And since HTC likes to include all these extra apps, like HTC message uploader, music enhancer, HTC services(runs as an app actually), etc, 15 apps is not a lot, so when a new app is launched, it starts to kill apps no matter how much memory is left.
I've already discovered how to raise the limit, I'm just testing a couple of things before I release it
It does seem to be better on 4.0.4. The one thing that annoys me is that while I don't need to reload pages and all, I do have to get into the recent apps even for apps I don't close out the app. But it's much better than before.

The main problem with multitasking is that by default, it's limited to 15 apps max, so unless it's running as a service, there can only be 15 apps running at once. Cool, that was what I was wondering about.
Looks like there are still things yet to be discovered about the multitasking shenanigans inside our ROMs...
While more ram has indeed solved hangs and reboot issues, I find chrome still reloads, facebook still reloads, among others... For me, multitasking is no different than before and I've so far tried most of the 4.0.4 roms.
So yeah, I'd say multitasking has a ways to go yet, but that's just me... The above user's response is NOT retarded; that's just disrespectful... More like it's just his experience, and as far as user experiences goes, I'm finding the One XL to be really inconsistent.
Still, definitely an improvement. Baby steps.
